Booker squeezed her hand a bit and looked at her sadly then gazed out at the scenery blankly. He remember the first time he ever fought in a battle. A tight knot had been in his stomach as he ran out and drew his sword. He had the same feeling now, only it was more dangerous.

Annalise wiggled in Blaise's arms and blinked tiredly. The little girl yawned and sat up, rubbing her eyes.

"Where are we going?" She mumbled sleepily. She obviously wasn't awake enough when Blaise had pulled her out of bed to even realize she was going anywhere.

"We're going back to the castle, Annie . . . the castle where you used to live with Joshua." Blaise answered, "We need to find a way to get in so no one can see us. Do you know how we can get in?"

"There's the deliveries entrance at the back." Annalise told her groggily, "And there's a opening in the meat cellar they use to keep it ventilated. The vent leads from the cellar to the kitchens. Nobody is normally in the kitchens past noon. The cooks don't return to the kitchens untill suppertime when they searve dinner."

Satella chuckled, listening to Anna talk groggily.

"Even vhen she tries to sleep she is still quite useful."

"Yeah..." Joshua agreed, "When I went there, I didn't always walk into the castle. My way was more convient for me."

"Vhich vas?"

"I flew." Joshua replied, "I guess people were used to seeing that... But I don't think they'll get used to this big thing."

"Thank you, Annie." Blaise said softly, "Anything else that might be helpful?"

Annalise shrugged a bit as she blinked and closed her eyes. "The fountain in the courtyard doesn't work anymore. The pipes were cut when someone built a secret room down there, but I don't know what it's for . . . there's a lot of secret rooms in the castle, and a lot of hidden passageways . . . mainly shortcuts."

"Alright Annie, you can go back to sleep now if you want." Blaise told her and the little girl nodded but didn't go back to sleep. She only sat with her eyes closed and relaxed a little.

Satella, Joshua, and even Chrono looked a little surprised.

"How did she know that?" Chrono had to ask.

"I knew she wandered around a bit, but... How much free time did this girl have? " Joshua added.

"It does not matter, she 'as been very useful to our cause."Satella told them," I think zhe best vay to do zhis is to divide our forces... You all vill proceed into the castle, and I vill provide a distract. I vill not listen to objections. I am zhe only one who can do zhis from a distance."

"Right." Kaden said, a knot forming in his stomach. He took Blaise's hand and squeezed it a bit and she gave him a small glance before returning her gaze to the horizon. The sooner they were there the sooner they could get Rosette. That's all Blaise focused on. Saving Rosette. She didn't want to do anything other than that. Thinking of anything else would only distract her and make her nervous. She didn't want to have to think about what losses they might suffer . . . who they might lose. Blaise would try to protect anyone and everyone, but losing someone along the way was inevitable.

"I vill let loose several beasts at once, you all vill remain on a single one, but it vill disappear quickly so as to not use up all my power. Do your best to get vhere you vant before it is gone. I vill remain in zhe lower part of the city, drawing out vhatever forces zhey vill send. 'Opefully, zhis vill leave some ways unblocked. Zhen it vill be up to Joshua and Annalise to find zhe vay through zhe city. If I am detained or dead before you find Rosette, you must find your own vay out. If not, I vill try to find you."

Satella said all of this very quickly, yet she alone did not seem disturbed by the fact she was talking about herself dying. She seemed fully prepared to do this. To get at Aion, get Rosette back, and resolve the fate of her sister.

Annalise tried to keep her eyes closed and not think about any of them getting hurt. She didn't want anything to happen to any of them. She couldn't help but tremble. She was scared. Annalise didn't want to have to face Aion again, to see him after he'd left her, after she'd felt so abandoned by the people she cared for and thought she was cared about by. Blaise felt her shaking and bent over her a bit, rubbing her shoulder.

"Are you alright, Annie?" She asked softly. Annalise hugged her arm and nodded weakly.

"Perhaps ve should not take zhe girl vith us if she is not up to zhis task..." Satella proposed, looking at Annalise, "She she not vell? She looks quite tired."

Joshua peered at Annalise as well, looking worried.

"Is everythng alright, Annie?" Joshua asked, " You okay? You look really tired."

Blaise liftedn Annalise up more and hugged her closer. The littler girl kept her eyes closed, her face looking slightly pale. Blaise stroked her hair worriedly as she rocked her comfortingly.

"Annie, tell me what's wrong." Blaise said in a very soft and undemanding way. Annalise still trembled a little as she turned her face into Blaise's shirt. The luttle brunette wasn't feeling so well, her grief and neves making her sick. Truthfully she hadn't felt normal, or as close to normal as a child within the empire could feel, since the incident up on the hill-top; since Aion had left her and told her she wasn't strong enough. Then shortly after Fiore was gone, and most painfully Shader. Shader wasn't a mean person, she was her friend; she didn't have to go with them, she wasn't bad, but she left her anyways.

Blaise by this time was really worried as she clutched her little sister near to her. " Annie, please tell me . . . Annalise . . ." her voice had become pleading. She looked up to Joshua knowing how much Annalise trusted him and loved him, "Help me try and comfort her. Do you know what could be wrong? Do you suppose it has anything to do with going back?"

"A lot of... people that she's cared for and loved for so long have abandoned her. AIon... I hate to say it but I am sure she looked to him as some kind of father figure. Fiore, maybe a motherly-figure in her, Shader was like a sister, and I, a brother. Now she only has me, but she has you again as well. She's afraid of seeing things that remind her of all this. I think... I think she's afraid of the pain associated with those memories, and she's so worried she's made herself sick." Joshua said sternly.

"Vell, make her better soon! Ve vill be arriving and ve must not 'ave any distractions!" Satella told them.

Chronp could barely hide his disgust... Aion, a father figure to anyone? He wanted to gag.

Blaise listened to what Joshua had to say and frowned, rocking her little sister gently all the while. How terrible; Annalise had thought she'd finally had a family together again only to have them abandon her. Only to have them taken away like her parents and older sister, and no matter who comes back you can never make up for someone you've lost. Blaise could hear the little girl crying softly as she continued to tremble. It almost made tears spring to her own eyes to know her little Annie was so distraught.

"Annie . . . Annalise, please calm down." Blaise told her, then suddenly remembered their mother. What she would do and say to make them feel better when they were upset or sick. Blaise began playing with the girl's little brown curls and stroking the bridge of her nose with her finger. "Hush now, little one, don't fret."

Blaise hummed softly a sweet tune that she used to know the words of as a child but the years had long since made her forget. It was the song their mother's music box, something quite rare, played and she sang it to them as they went to bet at night. Annalise slowly stopped crying and trembling, resting now in her arms and still clinging to her shirt.

Algren felt the cogs of his mind turning over and over, dark thoughts crawling through his head. Something about all this was wrong, incredibly wrong. Bane had always been mysterious, but then again so had Gefton so Algren hadn’t thought much of that. Bane had always been an ally who could be counted on, to be sure, but now something didn’t seem right. Algren couldn’t put his figure on it, but Bane’s Mannerisms seemed, manipulative. The audience with the council had been a shock to Algren. He had expected to have a long, drawn out debate, but within minutes he had won. It had seemed odd but Algren hadn’t cared. Now Bane was waving the Messiah before him like a prize to be shared and wasn’t thinking twice about it. There had to be something more, there had to be. No one would just hand over that kind of power and besides, why didn’t this girl ever talk? He looked over at the girl rinsing her arms. Why was it that Bane knew so much about her powers? How was it that this Messiah felt compelled to obey every order Bane gave, like a dog obeying their master. This last thought caused Algren to freeze, both body and mind still as his heart pounding.

“Like a dog and their master.” He whispered silently to himself, turning from Bane towards the window. His nightmares flashed before his eyes again. He saw death and ruin. Destruction and chaos and then that little woman’s words saying: ‘you will seat yourself upon the throne’. What was going on here? Confusion coursed through him. First Blood had risen from the dead and now the Messiah comes here, to the castle, being offered as a tool for Algren. Was this all just coincidence? Or was there something more to all of this? Algren turned around once more and looked at the girl.

“Messiah.” Said Algren slowly. “Please toss that water out a window if you don’t mind.” Algren looked at Bane and flashed him an innocent smile “I am curious as to what will happen.”
