Then I am assuming that your drow can and crew can pull all that off due to magical based means?

Depends, how many wizards do you think it takes to notice the shadows moving when they are reading/sleeping/talking....
Its a matter of how you picture the raid. The drow weren't exactly 'loud'. You could be standing beside your pal, talking and all of a sudden fell a pin p***k and feel suddenly sleepy. Within a moment you fall over and your friend's head appears beside you, then everything goes black becaue a sword just fell through your head.
Sitting at the table, reading the book, the world suddenly goes black, and you stand, still unable to speak, of course you start to call out but the handful of darts protruding from your body make you feel woozy, and you half heartedly mumble something before falling over.
Walking down the hall with you friend you turne the corner to find a room full of decapitated guards, you rush out side to tell those posted their about the grusome murder only be stabed by one of them.
Of course, going floor by floor exicuting everyone, man woman and child, usually without their knowledge or even realising that they are dead.
The darkness goes room by room, taking out everyone... Somehow, knowing where exactly everyone in the tower is? How is that, detect life.
How did they get past the wards that any self respecting wizards would have? Dispell Magic nutralizing the effects. What about anyone watching or witnessing any of the movements? a boy looking out his window at the guards when they are suddenly killed? He runs into the building to tell someone, and finds his mates and begins telling them what was happening, they rush to the more powerful wizards to tell them, but they are too late already, the drow are inside the tower and massacuring everyone...
They reach Echion's door and knock, but he can't here them... He is already dead.
Besides, only thirty people in the tower (asked Miss Dawn)... even in open combat, the drow would have slaughtered them. then agian, I really should make it clearer how strong and weak the drow pirates really are...
Sack an unsuspecting tower that doesn't even know that they are in the region, too busy with there own self apointed work to keep too much of a hand in sudden, dark and mysterious developments?
They might be interestedin the amount of magic being used on a perticular ship, but simple non detection spells are keeping their scans away...
magical based means... I guess, Well, the portable holes are magical devices that enable them to create passage ways where there was solid wall. the darts are heavily enchanted with sleeping toxins. The drow weapons themselves are heavily enchanted to cut through most armours... The cloaks improve their ability to hide, even when it seems almost impossible to do so. their boots make their steps almost completely unhearable... Stealth and surprise is how they work...
In an actual open war... not so much.
Their fenese isn't goign to break down a wall or heavily armoured outposts who are watching for intrusion....
So, if they can get in without tippin you off, they will win... But if you know they are coming, they will prove a vicious enemy, but probably will not prevail.
Drow to human losses in open war is ruffly 1:4 (better armour and weapons) Drow to human losses in subterfuge 1:150 (he was killed by his commrades)
as Malik pointed out, the inability of drow to trust each other is what keepst them from conquering the world.
Technically, they could storm Demitri's castle and kill him with little trouble because of their tactics and inventory... He might lose a few in the exchange, probably from the retreat more than the invasion.
Invading Malik's home in that same way would result in disaster. Malik is probably immune to the darts like Onyx was, so he would have everything he would need to stay alive in the assult. He couldsimply kill all the invaders by himself, and probably not care about the slaves lost.

that does exlpain abit. I was picturing it less with darts and such and more like a hide in teh shadow, sneak, slit throat, move to next person thing. someone was bound to see a dead body, or here someone fall on teh floor. but I think one of the big things was the spells there at teh end. the only thing I can think of is a magical item for being able to get blasted by a wall of fire or a breathweapon for cold and have it not even dent the fender, so to speak. I mean good lord how many magial items does the man have?

I didn't see it as all that hard to do. I was expecting the tower to fall at some point, albeit not so soon. The mages there have nothing to fear right? No one has ever attacked before, no one has ever come close. So defenses are lax, and no one pays much attention to a sleeping gaurd. They didn't think they had anytihng to gaurd against. I kid with a slingshot could have taken the palce down.

'Magic' immunity is based of the age and experience of the drow. Most crew are 60% immune to any spell. (3/5 hostile spells don't work.) Any older and more expeirenced drow would be more immune through the conditioning of their skin. They can wear armour that increases it by more. So, if you shot a fire ball at a drow wearing this armour, he might look funny atyou, until the roof fell on him because the walls that were supporting it were not so immune... Or, the drow is killed when the tunnel falls on his head wehen the earthquake fails to hurt him, but takes out the tunnel. Or... The armour drags the drown to the bottom of the ocean when his ship is destroy by a might lightning bolt. Besides, just becuase they're elves doens't mean they spend every waking moment training with their... wait, they do... err...
25 drow warriors versus malik. Round one, malik kills them all and is hit maybe twice.
25 drow warriors versus Echion (ready for combat) Round one, 10 drow killed by a firestorm, Echion killed by thirty swords.
25 drow warriors versus Nelphean. Round one, Nelphean spell trigger stone skin, and he fireballs them killing ten. They counter attack, we'll say 20 of the thirty attacks hit. They are all blocked by stoneskin, leaving one laywer (when nelphean casts stoneskin, he gets 21 laywers of physically indestructable skin(subseptable to magical attacks)).. Nelphean swares and teleports away.
25 Drow versus Echion the Archmagi of Elminster. Roundone, 25 drow warriors condemend to live in hell by transporting the entire battlefiled to that realm.
25 dorw versus meteor storm. The direct impact kills ten, but several drow are also killed by rocks and debree.
25 drow versus Piper? I don't know. If she goes fist, gets on her horse and flies about them unleashing arrows upon them, they would suffer some heavy losses. I imagine this is the point when malik shows up and kills the rest.
25 versus Onyx/Moonstone/Cymarron: Bloody battle, but any one of the Vah (or half vah) would be victorious.
25 Versus Darvien: drow parts rain from the sky...
EDIT
The wizard or Tarathiel...
wizard, he's make them every avaliable oppertunity to make his life easier. wands to increase caster rate, staves to hold multiple spells, figurines to summon creatures with a single word, robes to make him less vulnerable to swords.... Tarathiel, as many as he could steal from wizards and other warriors in order to survive in a harsh and unforgiving world full of people who are just as malicious and murderous as him... in other words, many, many many... he does have a ship to keep them all on, and its a good way to pay his crew. And selling them for local currancy... that is always good too.
EDIT
What Dawn said.

yep, dnd based. those guys have been balancing systems longer than any of us have been alive.
There is a reason why the Drow are the most feared (one of six) denizens of the dark...
Illithids(mind flayers), beholders, dragons, deep spawn(?), and those fish thingys make the other five in my opinion.
Then again, I have seen simple kobolds pull off greater victories than the Tower... Its all about tactics and use of rsources and man power. (and tricking your enemy).

No, I thought you were trying to make sure I wasn't being too god-like with my use of drow. legitamit questioning in my opinion.
Long ago I accepted most people have no extensive knowledge of dnd (the first and greatest rpg)
LOL, anyone ever see a movie called Mazes and Monsters?

awe, no one looks stupid.
It's all such a grand scale to me...since my writing tends to make it'self up as it goes. Even in my own novel writing I've enver beena ble to achieve much depth, or development of the realms. Probab;y why I'll never make it as a novelist. Maybe a short story writer...but not a novelist...
But since I'm shooting for animator...I don't think failing to e published will have to big of a toll on me. biggrin
