Technically, a typical Fury Attack would be a Normal attack, but as Ulani used a more Peck-like tactic, it scored a critical hit. Joseph's Pinsir withdrew, its arms swatting away the bird in front of its face, all the while gnashing those nasty fangs. Finally, the Swablu let off to catch her breath.

The Pinsir wouldn't give her a chance to. "Vicegrip, now that she's close!" Joseph called out, thrusting an arm towards the little blue dewdrop. The Pinsir complied immediately, moving forward with surprising speed and taking Ulani by surprise. Those thorny pincers on the top of its head found themselves around the smooth skin of the bird, beginning to press in painfully.

The Swablu cried out in distress; the pincers were amazingly strong and rough, and she could hardly breathe. To think that this Pinsir would one day grow up to have an even more powerful attack, Guillotine. She couldn't imagine this hurting any more. . .

Mary-Anne bit her lip. She had to get Ulani out of there, fast -- that Pinsir didn't seem willing to let go of her anytime soon, and that position must be less than comfortable for her dear little bird. "Sing, 'Lani!" the girl said breathlessly. Sucking up the last of her air supply, the little bird began to sing sweetly and intensely, the heavy notes circling around the Stagbeetle's head. Fortunately, she wasn't quite strong enough to belt out a louder song, else she might've interfered somehow with Ky's gym battle (for they were only about fifty meters away or so).

It didn't quite set the Pinsir to sleep, but the Bug-type did become drowsy enough to lose balance and fall over, letting go of the Swablu in the process. Upon hitting the ground, it snapped back to its senses -- M.A. was more than satisfied, though, seeing that Ulani was finally free in the air once more. And she looked no where ready to get caught by those pincers again.

Steffi paced up and down a small patch of grass not too far from her home. Sparky sat down on a rock and flicked his left ear. He watched her mutter nervously to herself, stretching out the map of Johto in her shaking arms.

Cherrygrove was a small city, with no gym or many people. Steffi had never left it before, other than to go on a trip to her grandparents in Hoenn, but that came once every three years, and was by car. She had no clue where to go to, so she decided to simply begin by toughening her newly caught pokemon.

Coming to a halt, she folded over the map neatly and placed it in her bag. She turned to face her pikachu. She stared into his eyes, as he stared into hers, both of them not having a clue on what to do. A thought entered her mind.

"Sparky! Thundershock!" she shouted, pointing at a tree behind the two rookies.

Sparky turned to where she was pointing and answered with a slightly confused sound, "Pika?"

Steffi sighed as a thick drop of sweat rolled off her chin. She sat down onto the grass beside Sparky and stroked his head softly, watching the pikachu roll his head in a jolly manner. She reached for his pokeball on her waist, as a tickling fealing jolted her leg. She vigilantly turned to face whatever may be tickling her. A massive weedle tugged at her skirt, gnawing on a piece of blue cotton. Steffi shrieked with horror as she sprung to her feet and darted away from the weedle.

Rather than respond, Crenu continued to whistle. Memories raced through his head as he sung, then ended as soon as he stopped. "I had a friend. Only for a short while, but he was a friend none the less. He's a strong one, has potential that I could never hope to achieve." He stayed silent again as he jumped down from the tree, kicking off the trunk so as not to hurt himself. He landed with a skid, then leaned up against another tree as he closed his eyes and looked downward. "What do you know about being sad. I'm not sad, I just like this song is all. Don't be so nosy." He got up from the tree and began to walk towards the Goldenrod side exit.

Seto's eyes opened slowly at the sound of the Ponyta being released, and he cocked his head slightly, one ear twitching as he watched Maven calm her. Sensing that neither of them meant any harm, the Persian looked himself over, eyeing the ring-like pattern of bruises on his side. Kasiya hadn't healed him last night, and the sleep he'd just had wasn't quite enough to fully heal him. The extent of his injuries wasn't serious, but his body did ache all over from being slammed by both Regal's Surf and Oracle's Psychic attacks. He twitched his ears again as he cast an irked glance at his trainer, who was curled up in the fetal position, and trembling slightly. He relaxed upon seeing her troubled sleep, and crawled up closer to her on his belly, purring as he rested his chin on her neck, hoping the gentle rumble from his throat could help to calm her.

It seemed to do the trick though, as Kasiya relaxed as well, a hand coming up to rest atop the Persian's head. "Thank you, Seto," she whispered softly, rubbing behind his ears affectionately. The Persian only grinned a bit, content in this moment to help his trainer feel as safe and secure as possible.

"Try an Astonish," M.A. ordered, not feeling too sure of herself at that very moment. Ulani must've sensed this; although she executed the attack flawlessly, her trainer's uncertainty rubbed off onto it and it was less than strong and effective.

"You gotta be more confident!" Joseph called out to both the girl and the Swablu, shaking his head. This chick must be new to battling and its pressures, he guessed. Too soft still. He could see that she was worried about the blue Cotton Bird getting hurt again, that she was worried that her command was not good enough. "Watch this -- Pinsir, Bind!"

Roaring and clicking its jaws, the Pinsir shook off Astonish's slight surprise and charged for the bird with the same alarming speed, once again gripping the little dewdrop between its pincers. Ulani squealed again, feeling the same pressure and pain as before -- but this time, she simply could not get out. The thorns on the Pinsir's horns seemed to dig in deeper this time. Flapping her wings wildly, she began to flail a bit, clawing at the Pinsir with her small talons without avail. Her cries were that of a pitiful helplessness.

No, no, Mary-Anne groaned, her knuckles turning white as she clenched her fists. Would she just have to give up, now? She held Ulani's Pokeball in one hand, debating for a second before Ulani caught sight of her and shook her head viciously (as best she could, anyways, within the Pinsir's grip). No. If Ulani wasn't ready to give in, neither was she! She couldn't be so weak-hearted. . . M.A.'s eyes narrowed just slightly, her knuckles turning even whiter as her eyes flared with determination that the girl hadn't felt for quite a while. Hadn't she promised Daemyn that they'd grow strong? And Ulani didn't want to lose so easily. "It's not over! Peck, Ulani, and don't let up!" she cried at last, and Ulani was more than eager to obey. With vigor that impressed even the Pinsir, she began to nail the Bug-type frantically, anywhere that she could reach -- first the horns that held her, then his head when he loosened up a bit.

The bird was finally let into the air again, but this time, she didn't not stop for a miniature break. Her trainer's energy seeped into her, and she transferred her Peck into yet another unrelenting Fury Attack -- the Pinsir could not keep taking the super-effective hits. As best as it could, it tried to push the bird away, but to no avail. Finally, with no way away from the battering and little energy to keep standing, the Pinsir fell with a dull thud.

Ulani didn't stop Pecking for a while longer, sitting utop the fallen Stagbeetle. She seemed surprised when Joseph recalled the Pinsir, looking back at M.A. dazedly. "It's done, 'Lani, it's done," she laughed a bit, feeling a bit queasy but quite happy. It wasn't like it was a Gym Battle or anything, but wow, that had been tough for her just to watch.

"She's a feisty one, your Swablu," Joseph grinned, giving them a thumbs-up. "Y'know. . . you shouldn't doubt her. She'll be something amazing when she grows up."

This struck Mary-Anne for a moment. "Yeah. . . You're right." No other words would come for just that moment, however; she slowly absorbed the lesson of the battle as the young man began to walk away.

"Wait, Joseph," she called suddenly, snapping out of her forwards and backwards thoughts.

"Yeah?" He turned.

"Thanks."

"Hah. No prob. Good luck with Bugsy tomorrow, and don't freeze up even for a second. Go get 'em," he grinned, slamming one first into his other palm once, then twice. Then he left.

And M.A. returned to her previous post, hoping she hadn't missed too much of Ky's battle. Ulani, tired but victorious, sat on her lap, preening herself happily.

Maven looked over at Nina and Kasiya seeing that both were having dreams affecting their sleep, all she wanted was to help. Knowing there was nothing she could do for dreams she stayed on the floor.

Phyra shook her head and nuzzled Maven softly seeing the tears streaming down the young girls cheeks. Vixy jumped and stood on Mavens lap pressing her paws on her shoulders and licking her chin. Maven chuckled at Vixy and hugged her softly. Sleep would not take her anywhere now, not after that nightmare she knew this. She just had to wait until morning so she wouldn't wake anyone. She didn't have friends, and couldn't make any, this was apparant.

She stared at the wall in front of her. She would move to pet Phyra and Vixy but that was the only movement that came from the trainer.

Train was silently for a moment. "If you need another friend, I wouldn't mind!" She called after him, then turned and walked off to the Azalea exit. She'd heard about someone who could make certain kinds of pokeballs, from Apricorns, and that there was an Apricorn tree just behind his house. She figured she'd pay a visit.

Crenu stopped for a second looking down at the ground. He stood there for a moment, then continued on through the exit heading for Goldenrod. "Tch, If I wanted another firend..." Stepping out of the gate, he looked up at the sky and stared at the clouds. "...I wouldn't have abandoned the one I had." He continued to walk onward along the pathway until he reached Goldenrod for the second time that day. He wasn't going to challenge Bugsy, Ky and M.A. were probably doing that right about now. He would have to go back for that battle later, but now hr had another gym battle to worry about. This was no longer about simple badges, this was about obtaining absolute power. he was no longer satisfied with simply defeating an opponent, Crenu was going to have to compleatly destroy his opponents now in order to quell his blood lust. "Witney, I'm coming for you. Haaaa ha ha ha ha ha ha! Aaaah ha ha ha ha ha ha!"

Both Tsunami and Cishashwi had made their way back to the top layer of their pond arena. Their final moves would take place in the full view of their trainers. Both pokemon panted and then were off. Cisashwi rushed forth with almost a solid sheen of electricity over her body instead of the earlier occasional spark. All her power was in this attack. But Tsunami was also putting everything she had into her attack as well, resulting in an immense wave which she was presently riding into their battle.

"Go for it!" Mag encouraged as the two forces grew closer together. With a mighty crash, and a fair amount of steam, the two collided. Several large waves came cascading at the two trainers. Both of which stood their ground getting wet up their knees. As the waves and wind and other various forces died down both trainers could see the dim form of Cishashwi resting, fainted, upon the back of Tsunami who had made her way back to the shoreline.

"Good battle." Linalee said a bit dissapointed that she hadn't managed to win even one round of their practice match. "Well seeing as it is so dark right now, why don't we head to the Pokemon Center for the night?" She asked Mag as she returned Cisashwi and began walking towards it. "Aw man, and I really wanted to go to Vermilion City today." Mag sighed as he gave Tsunami a pat on her head before returning her. The two were in the center shortly thanking Nurse Joy for taking their pokemon to be healed.

As the orange and blue helicopter made its way down, Mike and Nitro circled above waiting for the engine to die down. "Wouldn't want to get near those spinning blades now would we?" The boy said jokingly to his Pokemon, who snorted in response. After a few moments of watching the engine slow to a stop, and the surrounding ocean calm down, the two descended next to the once airborne vehicle.

"This is a side of Johto I never saw before." Mike said to no one in particular as he pocketed his hands and hopped off of his Charizard. Nitro let out a sigh, rubbing his wings as they draped lifelessly over his sides. "Alright, I get it boy, you want a rest." He held up a Pokeball, recalling the Pokemon back. "Now then," He said, returning his gaze to Mr. Ranmo. "where do we start?"

The high pitched sound of Ky's pure and young voice rang inside the Scyther's head like a Screech attack. His concentration was shattered, and he could do nothing to foretell or evade Little Guy's bullet like attack. As the move struck him square in the back, he felt a sort of hole crack open in his carapace. It was as if his energy was wafting away once more. No, he couldn't lose another battle. Not to this little squirt. The Natu was embedded into his back, and the Mantis lacked the joints to reach him. He couldn't slam his body into a nearby tree or rock, as it would only drive the beak deeper into his back, his soft insides. It shrieked hoping the sound itself would drive his assailant free.

Better polish up yet another badge.
Bugsy said to himself as he wordlessly watched the battle unfold.

"Ah!" Joeseph smiled, clambering into the vehicle to gather shovels and picks. "Here you are, Mike. And...It wouldn't hurt to have a hard hat, either." He turned back to the helicopter and took out a yellow hat, walking over and handing it to Mike.

"Don't worry about me." He removed his bowler and tapped it a few times. A very hollow and hard echo came from it, "It's a hard hat in itself." Spinning it about and placing it back on his head, he motioned for the two others to follow him. "Remember, Mike. It's not sure that we will find the fossil you're looking for. Who knows?" he smiled behind his mustache, "Maybe you'll find a brand new fossil. Something we've never seen before!" Joeseph smiled and cleared his throat. "Now then! Let's go."

"A little hard work never killed anyone." said the boy as he quickly rolled up his sleeves and reached for a shovel. "Well, aside for people who were the victim of cave ins. Then they died directly because of hard work. Ok, I'm stopping now." Mike took the tool in hand, the other patting on the new hard hat that sat atop his head. "So, I guess I've gotta follow you again." There was a noticeable twitch of anticipation in his stance.

He pranced away, waving his shovel around over his head. "Omanyyyyyyyyte!" Sang the boy in a queer fashion.

As Nina continued to dream, Rai stood awake, wandering around the arena. Another sleepless night, he thought, gazing out the window. It was still dark, but the sun was beginning to peek over the horizon; it wouldn't be too much longer until daylight. He sighed, sitting down on the bleachers, holding his head in his hands.

Whitney let out a little sigh as she jumped onto Rio's back, getting ready to leave Fuchsia City. The wingless Pokemon jumped into the air a moment later and somehow managed to take flight. "Who'da thunk it, Rio?" she said, looking back at the city from which they were departing. "Janine, maybe becoming a Gym Leader? That'd be awesome!" All three of the Dodrio's heads rolled their eyes. The girl stretched her arms over her head, and mentally went over what she needed to get done. Okay. I need to like, stop at Saffron really quick and pay a visit to the PokeMart-- hopefully they'll have my Pokeball in. Then I need to go on over to Celadon and catch up on some shopping... Like, wow. Was that all? Eh. She shrugged it off, and tried to enjoy the rest of her flight. It was pretty nice out, she had to admit, but being in an air-conditioned shopping mall would be nice, too.

Hopping off of the triheaded bird, she recalled Dodrio into its Pokeball, deciding to give the avian a chance to rest up. Flicking her hair out of her face, Whitney made a trek toward the mart, and in the distance she spotted the Saffron Gym. "Huh," she said, "I forgot that place is like, being run by someone new now. I wish I knew who it was-- oh my gosh! Maybe that's the Gym that Janine's taking over! That'd be so totally cool!" She paused. "Wait, no, that can't be it. Janine hates Psychic Pokemon." Deciding against wracking her brain on the matter any more, she headed into the store, and had a brief discussion with the clerk behind the counter about a Love Ball she had ordered. She was informed that it hadn't arrived yet, and left, almost dejected.

"Augh, that totally sucks!" she whined, walking down toward the Pokemon Center. "I knew I should have just, like, spent the time gathering those apricots and giving them to Kurt. That way I wouldn't have had to, like, wait so freaking long!" She fwapped her wrist of her right hand up against her forehead. "Idiot."

Cracking her neck a little and rubbing her hand along the inner area of her throat, the girl was fast approaching the Pokemon Center-- she thought briefly of entering and having Rio healed, but what was the point? Celadon was only a short hike away, and besides, the exercise would do her good-- Especially since I never have time to 'buns-ercise!' she thought with a giggle. Upon reaching the center, she bumped into a man that was exiting. "Oh-- oh my gosh! I'm like, so sorry sir!" she exclaimed. "Are you hurt?"

"No, my dear. I'm quite all right."
