biggrin How about the journey starts with a voice prompting you to head down the hall towards the reception desk? As if you have just been dropped off by special agents in the ministry who deal with that specific thing.
8D And the hall... well the hall should be non-threatening and business like, crisp, to give the right first impression. ^_^ And maybe on either side are doors to specific offices, but the main desk deals with immigration and travelers and stuff... razz
Or it's just a short hall or no hall at all......... xD It'd be funnier if there were a voice prompting you to head to the nearest reception desk, and it's like a foot away. XD
Would it be better to have a more intimate, multiple but individual room atmosphere? Or something like lines at a bank, but with 2/3 desks and people sitting behind them instead of the counter?
I can see it for violent cases too.... such as people who are criminals in our world. They can't be charged for their counterpart's crimes, but I think they'd be more closely monitored...... xP And those people might be more Department of Mystery fodder... if... er.. that still exists..... though why woudln't it? O_o
3nodding Aaah, Wizarding Citizen department.... okay. biggrin 'Welcome to the Traveler information and administration department, a subdivision of the Department for Wizarding Citizens.'
Something like that. xD
D: Yeah, those brits are so unphaseable. (We lived through actual BOMBINGS of our damned cities! Nothing else can phase us anymore)
Something like that.

Oh and I have a question- Is there some type of wizarding census thing, so they know how many citizens they have?
Or is it just birth records? Meaning if someone didn't bring one in, really the poopulation woudl be unknown... and if it wasn't required before, there could be a lot of unknown witches and wizards, or people like squibs if they didn't get into Hogwarts and weren't documented there...
Basically is there any ONE, formal means of knowing every wizarding citizen?

I think the hall should appear differently depending on the person who comes in. Kat's Rowle, for example, should have been greeted by an the foreboding hall in an attempt to intimidate him into behaving. 3nodding But that would be for private roleplaying purposes as opposed to being displayed in the thread. (Because in addition to the sticky we'll also have a department thread.)
Though the desk only being two feet away is hilarious X3
I think what we should do is have a copy/paste form somewhere on the page that includes questions about the universe that person came from. That way, the sticky can provide a place for people to talk about their characters' backstory. (That way the sticky itself could be copy/pasted and the character wouldn't have to wait for someone else to be online to roleplay; they could just post and leave.) Plus a post describing what makes you a Traveler and the various ways and theories the Ministry has come up with to explain it. I'm looking for ways to delete the 'canon' page from the website entirely, so having all the information in one thread would be nice.
Travelers are lucky. They get treated better and have WAY more rights than werewolves. xp
There is a census - but it's based on magic. Like how Hogwarts tracks possible students when they first start showing magic as children. Citizens are added to the list as blips of their magical abilities become recorded, and though there is a team of Ministry officials who seeks to have birth records, etc, squibs and late bloomers often go uncounted. It's unfortunate but it also opens the door to many roleplaying possibilities. xp heart
Which is why they would -eventually- be alerted to a Traveler, when they used magic and someone in the census office noticed an unknown spike from an adult and sent it along to the Traveler department. But then they'd have to track them down X3

I think it can be assumed that anyone who enters the traveler department/thread we're making is of age...
Because Children, if unaccompanied by an adult, I think would be taken and whisked off to a Wizarding orphanage, and the Ministry takes care of their feeding/schooling until they get to Hogwarts. Or helps provide them with clothes and things if they are hogwarts age but don't have any of their thigns with them.
Children with relatives are of course welcome to stay with relatives, the adults just fill out the required sections.
And children put into the social welfare/orphanage/adoption system are then treated just like any other child.
Any thoughts on that? O_o
EDIT: But a representative comes to them to get their information down, or the kids go individually or in groups, and they also are given therapy for no less than six months.
One difficulty is that, if a child who comes through in the UK isn't of British nationality... do they had the child over to the other country?
Or maybe the countries agreed to keep whatever children arrive in their country.
Or it can be taken on a case by case basis, in which if the country raises objections to the british ministry keeping adn raising the child, there can be a hearing/court/trial/compromise.
I'd think it'd just be easier to have each country keep whatever kids, except in the situation where a child and adult become separated, in which the child should be returned to the adult.

I think it should be kept simple, guys. sweatdrop
I thought the whole point was to be able to come into the guild, as you are, and that's it?
Maybe I'm underthinking it, but I like that it's just an alternate character and that's it. Some background stuff is okay, but I don't think it should all be this big elaborate thing with all the Traveler characters.
Not saying that that sort of thing is bad, but not everyone will be comfotrable with that, and with their character going through all of it.
Plus, I like that by not having so much restriction with it, we don't have an established, (canon?) set version of a character as the real one and one as the Traveler(s).
Old subforum/Dron thread/Death Eater thread rules should apply with the whole, "We exsist because we exsist and we shall all co-exsist" with this situation/part of the Guild.
Just tossing my thoughts out there.

You bring up some valid points, Kat. The purpose of the Traveler concept was to provide an easy way for roleplayers to insert their characters without worrying about copies, universal backstories, or complications. At the same time, however, we need to worry about providing at least some sort of "why this is this way." We have some serious aspects of roleplaying, so we can't just have six or seven Harry Potters running around without reason.
I think Cassy and I can work out a happy medium, yes, Cassy? n_n
Give some background as to what Travelers are, without restricting anything or trying to control how their characters were introduced. Try to keep it balanced and justified without it being too controlled.
I'm frustrated because it's hard to figure out how much control we should have, how much background and explanations, and how much crack. I liked how the subforum used to be - but I also like the stronger, plot-oriented stuff we did with the wedding. It's not easy to define just enough as opposed to too much. gonk sweatdrop emo

Well a lot of the things I talk about/suggest don't actually need to happen, and won't. I mean, even if it never comes up, I just like to know these little things.
And no one is saying it'd be like the character HAS TO have done exactly what the thread is saying- it's just a fun way of setting up and really framing the real point of the thread- Some questions your character can answer to give a more detailed look at where they came from and what their life was like.
It's just like wrapping it in a pretty box- it doesn't need to be taken literally. biggrin
The rights stuff, that was just for fun (Most people likely won't even read it)
It's all just to look formal and neat and structured, like the Ministry might present it.
Heck, most people just probably get a pamphlet and have to register their name, birth day, the like.
So are you talking about like, the therapy thing? O_o They don't necessarily have to have like, therapy and stuff, but I'd just think the Ministry would keep an eye on new people they register in case of funny business, at the same time giving aid to those who want/need it.
I really like the background of things to be more structured.... structured crack. It's crack, but I want to know HOW and WHY it's crack, y'know?
And I mean, having a basic layout for something that affects everyone just as much as our own government does... (Which isn't too much, besides taxes, what's really all that noticeable?) ..... well it's just nice to have that structure.
I still would think they'd have to sign something so they don't totally use new magic people aren't used to/don't know about and cause tons of panic. Like it's alright to remember/think about it, but the ministry might prefer it's not used.
I don't know. razz
-and again with wizarding kids, maybe if they're over fifteen they recive aid like adults...
But there's still got to be something done for and some place for younger kids to stay before they go to Hogwarts/in the summers, if they're orphaned by an accident.
Which is why I thought we kind of needed a wizarding orphanage/foster system. Like they just send a kid to live with a qualifying family or something.
Just popping out brain thoughts.

I'm not talking to just you, Cassy. No worries, hon. xp Naz too. And it's not really "at you," but in general.
I don't see where it needs to have any of this. I get what you guys are saying, and I think all of them are great concepts, but I don't think it needs to be in the guild canon.
We don't need a structured set of rules or laws for Travelers. I think at most, Naz ought to put up the Traveler canon from the site for members who might be interested, but that's it.
The whole Traveler thing should be a loose option for Guild members who want to specifically say, "Hey, my character is from an alternate time/universe." If you get too in-depth with it people are going to get pissy with who the "REAL" Harry Potter, Cedric Diggory, etc is. Or they won't want to make their own version because it's not called the official one.
I say this because everyone is protective and proud of their version of certain characters. And I'd like for everyone to have the established freedom and ease of just roleplaying/being a part of the community without having to worry with all that.
Truth be told, guys, if we were to put what you're saying into effect, all the Crew members' characters would generally be thought of as the "Canon" cast and I don't want people to be discouraged.
I'd really like to see the care free atmosphere that the subforum and some of the earlier Death Eater threads had. We'd have three different Potters running around (one married to Draco, one to Ron, and one a total slut) a femme!homo!Rodolphus and then the more "canon" like version all coexisting and interacting without batting an eyelash.
I just think all these cool ideas you guys have should be put up somewhere maybe in the Community subforum or a big essay/opinion thread where it can be discussed and whatnot. We can post essays and thoughts in the livejournal community right?
Also, I think the Ministry subforum will become more loved/active when we have more Aurors and action going on in there, not a ton of overly complicated rules/laws on, not just Travelers, but everything.
The only time we should worry about that sort of structure is during the Election, and even then I think it should just be focused on the candidates and their individual parties. Besides, who really wants to know/knows all the laws/how their government is ran? Some people might, but since most probably won't, I think it should stay in discussions/essays. Just like the werewolf stuff being in the community subforum since we're taking the canon page down. We don't want to push our canon on anyone else. It makes people nervous and stressed out.
We should focus on the community aspect of the Guild, not the strictness/sense-making-ness/backgrounds of the characters/wizarding government. Because while some of us like structured crack, others like to have complete structure, and others total crack and I thought the point of the guild was to incorporate all of it together and the community forum was partially to post stuff like personal canon and ideas. That way everyone can have stuff their own way and ideas can be shared with each other.
Because the updated government and the traveler stuff are all good ideas, I just don't think it's a good idea to restrict things so much for new roleplayers or each other. Because for example my Rowle would have got himself killed going through all that and if you try rewriting the Ministry and making it "canon" you know some shithead is going to get mad and tell you it's wrong for whatever reason.

*Thoughtful nod*
There really aren't any specific laws or rights or whatever for travellers, the stuff I put up i sreally your basic human rights...... it's just a law-y technical way of covering bases.... though it isn't needed.
Travellers have the laws/rights of all other citizens...... it's just that there might be someone who comes in and tries to take over the life/whatever of one character....
I mean, there's nothing wrong with having two Harry Potters as Aurors, but there would have to be like... a BASE rule of: You can't just take this guys kids, and you have the same name/look alike, but you're not the same people, so you have to earn your way and stuff.
And about the canon- ..... er... what? O_o I mean... there has to be SOMETHING established, doesn't there? O_o There's already some stuff established- it goes off of the canon universe, with things having been revised/rewritten.
And as the owners of the guild, shouldn't you guys control some base elements of what is and what isn't?
I mean, you don't want a person to come in and say 'Hey, this is going to be this way because you didn't say otherwise' .... you know? Like just making characters like werewolves completely accepted, when in here the view is generally that they're not.
I mean, we don't want to say 'Here's what Werewolves are and what they act like, that's it' ..... because people will have other opinions about what they think a werewolf's life is like.
But... there does need to be some established rules/structure.
Er..... so the question is then... is that really worked out, or not?
I for one really love your guys' canon, all of it. Things are relatively okay, Death Eaters are in rehab, some kids and people are stirring things up-
There comes a point where control will have to be taken, because I DO love taking part in plots. Having everyone just play out their lives is nice..... but it would get boring after a while. xD
And I don't really come up with good plot ideas, unless it's complete crack, so I love to jump on someone else's wagon if they let me, and ride around for a bit. xD
And again on the travellers- I do see that thigns are getting a bit complicated.... it'd be hard to expect someone to look at that stuff and come to the conclusion of- Wow... actually, that's all just crap, and won't affect me at all. XD
Because I can come up with that conclusion, since I sit around thinking about it, but they probably wont. razz
I think we DO need to have characters that ARE established as canon characters.
And they should be ours as crew.
And it's not for any elitist reason, though it is for a bit of control- but really, having us have main established canon characters....... it's not going to affect someone who wants to be a Harry Auror when there's a canon Harry auror.
All the person'll have to think then is 'Okay, Harry's from a different universe, don't really have to explain it, no one really acknowledges or cares that much about the duplicates, I'm going to make Harry go get a coffee now'
I dunno. I mean, it depends on whether you guys would rather have some characters be established canon.
BUT! The big thign here is that- This is NOT the book canon world. It's Guild canon. And guild canon is ******** up. biggrin
I still think it'd be nice to point out which characters ARE original to the guild world, again for control/plot reasons.
AND FOR SENSE REASONS. I generally like pink elephants, but when five harry potters are tripping over each other awkwardly to be/not be the guild canon harry, that'll get annoying. REALLY annoying.
So if you guys/we have characters that we want to be original to the guild world, we should.
Because again, it's not like it's going to make any difference, I think.
So I agree with Naz putting up her Traveler Canon. razz And we can get rid of the thread I've been poking at, because it is confusing....
xP JUST ME PERSONALLY, I LIKE AND NEED STRUCTURE. I like having sense made of the insensible. razz But then again, that's just me.
So if you can put up with me asking a million and fifty gazillion questions, whenever I have them...... well then, there you go. biggrin
The point is that maybe if there's too much chaos, it'll all get too confusing/annoying and then people will get angry and things will explode. D:
*Pats Kat's Rowle and gets him some of that KY jelly*
biggrin
I think I'm being confusing though. xD My brain isn't working so much today/yesterday/lately.

We don't need established cannon characters, though. I thought the turn we were making with the Guild was that it would be a community, not just a big plot oriented roleplay. I, myself, want to see it become a bigger and better Harry Potter subforum.
Sure, roleplaying is a very large part of the guild and always will be, but not to the point that we're controlling all the canon and have that much a say about the characters.
I don't want to see it become some big thing where it's like, "This is our stage, you can play the side characters/AU versions to our characters." There doesn't/shouldn't be a need for any control like that.
We'll have roleplaying etiquette put into the roleplaying rules for to prevent the, "Well, if I'm Harry then I want this Albus Severus to be my kid, but I'm not going to ask," crap. It was well established in the subforum back in the day. Hell, I remember how we'd PM each other to ask in advance if we could be so and so's brother/their whoever in general. It was fun that way, and it built up some really cool bonds. We've got the Make a Connection thread for that now which I think is cool because now people can just outrightly request things.
Because again, I think that would be putting us away from everyone else, and I kind of want it to become just one big melting pot of characters/roleplayers/fans/artists/writers/everything/everyone.
Also, I'm not saying to get rid of the Travelers thread. I think it should be a discussion/essay thread to be considered/discussed in the Community subforum. Because some people will like that background for their characters and might use it as reference, like me and Naz's werewolf canon.
I don't think it will get confusing or annoying with it all set up like that. There are tons upon tons of places for people to roleplay what they want when they want if they want to do specific things/AUs and what not, so there won't be explosions. And I think if Naz lets me, I'm gonna help her with the "important issues" part of her party thread, since that'll be where we'll have the "these are things that are universal" when it comes to "guild canon." I think she needs to expand on the "guild plot" page anyway that way she can talk more about D3ath 3aters and werewolves and all that.
Hell, the only time there were explosions in the subforum/threads was when we all disagreed on a ship. sweatdrop xp The only time I saw fighting over Harry Potter Avatar roleplaying was in the DECAA thread and I think it was because it got so in-depth. I don't want anyone to feel smothered but I want people who like depth to get it too and I think the community forum is good for that.
Plus, I don't think anyone would fight too much over who was the canon Harry since it wouldn't matter anyway. It's kind of a pink elephant, but it's an elephant we know of and can talk about in the Make a Connection thread because the only real importance of which Harry is which is what accounts are his friends/family and what accounts are not.

*Loves on* I just don't want things to go all bad or not at all with the Guild. I'll love it regardless if we have five members or five hundred members... I just get sick of poking in the subforum, seeing all the negative-deadness and that's it.
Just really want more fun, happy Harry Potter fans around. I miss all that and all the cool people we had to talk/play with, ya know?
Bah, we'll be good no matter what, me thinks.
