"Supposedly.... for some cultures.... and if Kara had another person around during the first fourteen she decided to adopt," Donovan replied back wrly.
He didn't find it presumptuous, especially since Elrohir obviously wasn't use to so many adoptions, much less one done by one woman. Hell, it amused him actually.
"She likes thoughtful names," Donovan added absently.
Though he couldn't figure out the meaning of Trisha or Cinderella... hell what person in their right mind names their kid Cinderella? Apparately that was what was written on the box she got the girl in.

Triton rolled his eyes, "Donovan, you named Lin remember?"
He shook his head at the older man, sometimes he was just strange, but at least he was in a good mood.
"I suppose so," Triton replied, "But I also understand that parents ahead of time come up with the names, for both boy and girl before the birth. I don't know why they choose certain names, some do because of meaning, others are to honour a person like maybe it's a name passed down," he shrugged.
He supposed a person could name another just because they liked it... he was sure that Mia and Trisha were named that way. Helen he couldn't tell.. after all... Helen was very pretty... for a... boy.

"That's what I mean, though," Elrohir nodded. "You're given a name at birth, and that's the name you have throughout your whole life. Whether or not it means anything is up to both yourself and your parents, or whoever names you. This is the way of the humans here as well."
He paused. "And the dwarfs, I believe," he added cautiously.
They passed out of the city and headed east, down the mountainside, towards the Old City ruins.

"I suppose..." Triton mused thoughtfully, "It is the name we have our whole lives, whether or not it suits us, it gives us an identity to go by," he replied, "But it's one we have..."
Better than being nameless, there were plently enough people who were like that, going throughout their lives without a name.
"But whether it means anything is up to the parent," Triton added, "Humans are a mixed bunched... all the races back home are, some names mean something, and some nothing at all."

Elrohir nodded. He understood. Even amongst the elves, there were those who put no thought into the naming of their children. He was thankful that his mother - wherever she was - and father had put thought into his name, and his siblings' names.
"What about items?" he asked curiously. "Do you even name your items? Weapons, precious possessions?"

"Uhm... I don't know about other people," Triton replied with a blink, "But I've never named a weapon or a precious possession, I've heard of weapons having names, but that's about it."
He certainly couldn't imagine the latter, but he had heard of weapons that did have names, or at least terms they went by.

"No, I don't," Donovan replied in turn, "Too much attactment."
Afterall he was probably eight percent of the time going to lose the weapon anyhow, why name the damn bugger? Unless you intend to call it Hellfire I, Hellfire II, Hellfire III and so forth as you kept replacing.

"Ah," Elrohir nodded. "I can't say that I'm surprised. From what I know, it's an entirely elvish concept. Myself, I find no use in it - but a name can inspire fear, whether it be of man or of weapon, and if it helps ..."
He shrugged.
"Still," he mused, "there's one warrior I've been hearing about that no one knows anything about. Some child warrior. The name has been popping up for ... half a decade now, but still no one knows a thing about him ... or her."

"Child Warrior?" Triton blinked thinking about that.
He knew there were young ones that were quite the fighters, they always croped up every once in a while, but it couldn't be a brag.
"Is this person really that young?" then again Triton thought, if it was an elf, it was possible seeing as the 'child' coudl be talented and be his height without a problem.

"Not exactly something that would inspire fear, but certainly awe if that title holds true," Donovan shrugged.
Child proidgy? Quite possible.

Elrohir shrugged down at his companions. "I couldn't tell you," he repeated. "No one knows a thing about this person. Not whether they're male or female, or what age ... though to be a child warrior five years ago, they must be at least ... twelve by now."
He shrugged. "I mean, there are towns that I've never been to before, who knows how early children begin their training there? My mother began her training when she was only two years old!"

Well Triton couldn't well disagree seeing on how fast he grew and learnt how to fight within his short lifetime. So he supposed it was possible.
"True," Triton replied, "Though you think by now... the person will have gained another name.. you can't stay a child forever."
If only he knew....

Elrohir glanced down at Triton curiously. "Another name?" he questioned. "No. If this person has taken this name, to change it would be to lose any advantage gained by the fear produced by it. No, even if the person were older by now, even if they had reached adulthood - though if they were only a child five years ago, I doubt it - they're not likely to change their name."
He shook his head negatively. "No, better to keep it," he murmured.

"If there is fear produced by it, it has to be for good reason," Triton mused, "To put child and warrior into the same name is a contradiction... most wouldn't be scared by it."
But now this was interesting, why would a child be travelling he wondered? Well he really couldnt' wonder for long since no one had the answers.

The trip across the desert was bearable ... but barely. It wasn't the company - in fact, Elrohir found that he was able to get along with his companions quite amiably, as long as certain topics weren't brought up - but rather, the sun was scorching hot and water scarce. He hadn't traveled since searching for Elnara, and sadly, he, the elf, the one who was supposed to be able to withstand more than other races, was the one holding the others back.
At least, that was how he felt half the time. Though he suspected that in the state he was in, it was quite possible that he just didn't notice how the others were handling the heat.
At any rate, it was three days before the plantation came into sight, a sea of green in the midst of a brown and red world.
