"Daddy~," she called from the upstairs as she attempted to locate Isto, a pamphlet of sorts clutched in her right hand. It wasn't long before she was thundering down the stairs. Obviously he wasn't upstairs or he would have instantly answered her like a good, obedient father.

"Down here, sweetheart." Another day off of work, and another day left to nothing but relaxation. At present, Isto was down in the kitchen, finishing off making himself the ideal turkey sandwich. Hearing Tourma's call, he chuckled softly, pushing his plate aside and setting about making his daughter an identical meal. "Want a turkey sandwich?"

"Ew. I don't eat meat," she replied haughtily, making a face when she stepped into the kitchen. Isto should already know such minute details of her eating habits. Granted, this wasn't minute, but he should still know anyways because she said so. Daintily, Tourmaline sat down across from Isto and gave him her best 'take advantage of Daddy' face, only it looked more like she was utterly adoring of Isto instead. "Daddy," the SM began, "Can I take dance classes?"

"Since when?" Isto raised a brow, giving her a curious glance, but obligingly removed the turkey, leaving the bread piled high with vegetables and sliding the sandwich across the counter to Tourma. Reaching for his own sandwich, he helped himself to a bite, eyeing Tourmaline warily. He knew that look. That was the 'let's sucker something out of Daddy' look. Unfortunately, it was much more useful on Slush than on Isto. "What kind of dance classes?"

"Ethnic dancing," she replied steadly, absently ignoring the 'since when' question as she took a bite of her sandwich, which was probably going to become a makeshift salad in a matter of moments. "It looks like fun, and I won't have to listen to you and Mom..." A smug look crossed her features despite her attempt to feign innocence. This child was well aware of the annoyances she could cause by simply not allowing her parents any 'Mommy&Daddy time.'

"Ethnic dancing," he repeated. His eyes narrowed slightly at her hidden threat, but he simply remained silent, finishing off another few bites of his sandwich before gracing her with a reply. "Why the sudden interest? This something to do with your 'no more meat' campaign?"

Tourmaline huffed, "It's not a campaign!" She looked irritated, to say the least. "It's better for both the environment and the poor animals to be vegetarian." Her arms crossed over her chest as if daring him to argue with her, but not before she plucked the two pieces of bread from the sandwich and dumped them unceremoniously onto the table.

Isto chuckled softly, shaking his head. "If it wasn't before, it is now, eh?" He watched disapprovingly as she turned her sandwich into a salad, pointedly taking a large bite of his turkey sandwich in response and speaking once her swallowed. "Have you ever seen a live turkey, Tourma? They must be the most brainless creatures in existence. I'm sure death's not much different from life to them."

At his comment, she looked utterly horrified at his comment, which was slowly turning into anger as she stabbed some lettuce and a tomato slice with her fork, glaring at Isto as she chewed. "I'm sure that someone has said the exact same thing about Skullmonkeys before fifth stage was available. Besides, it's still murder."

She obviously was not amused by his joke.

"Skullmonkeys have a mind, regardless of form," Isto retorted, frowning. "And I'm not saying 'murder' is good, but, really, we can't survive on just veggies. It's not healthy."

"Yes you can," the child replied, "There are plenty of healthy meat substitutes, like tofu and soy for example." She shook her head, waving him off so she wouldn't have to argue with her father for being different than him. "Does this mean I can't have fun and take dance classes just because I'm not like everyone else in this house?"
PostPosted: Wed Jul 05, 2006 4:03 pm

"Tofu has to be the most disturbing substance on the planet," Isto replied dryly, taking another bite of his sandwich. "And soy will never be meat, no matter what they do to it." He paused, frowning faintly at her worlds. Truth be told, he was trying to decide if she were guilting him or not. The words hit home. "Of course not, sweetheart. Everyone's different. I'd just rathered if you'd pick ballet or something." Not that the Tourma he knew would ever pick ballet. "Where would you be taking these classes? Do you have a handout or something?"

Lips curling into a frown that mirrored his own, she rolled her eyes, "Of course it's not meat Daddy, that's the point of soy and tofu. Duh." Really, sometimes she wondered how she was related to these people. They're called meat substitutes for a reason. Jeez.

"Because I'm light enough for ballet," Tourmaline snorted dryly in response to his comment, a bit of acidic bite to her comment added out of spite. She liked to dance, and wouldn't mind learning ballet, but even as a child the SM knew that girls got lifted a lot in ballet. And she wasn't exactly feather light.

She pursed her lips, but soon produced the paper she had picked up while she had been out with Slush. "Ethnic dancing looks fun... It's so expressive."

'I didn't say it was meat, sweetheart." He rolled his eyes, finishing off his sandwich in another couple of bites. "I said it will never be meat, as in, will never equate with meat in level of..greatness, or some such." He knew what he meant, dammit. She should too.

He had no reply to the comment about her weight, and so he said nothing, merely remaining silence and accepting the paper when it was offered. Frowning faintly, he skimmed over it, then took a bit longer to read it in detail. Finally sighing, he set down the paper and glanced over to Tourma, propping up his chin with his metal hand. "This is really what you want to do? No backing out once you start it, right?"

She simply scoffed at his reply, making a disgruntled and dismissive motion with her hand before waiting for him to finish reading. Her 'salad' was finished quickly enough as well.

"Right," the SM assured her father before stuffing the last tomato into her mouth and chewing on it, and before he could question her anymore, she quickly added a bit more. "Lessons start Monday."
