Max is the King

The young member of the Spear came to a halt in front of the massive man, standing with the same calm aire of supreme superiority that all the members of the law enforcment unit possessed; or rather, were required to have. He eyed the big man up and down with his intense, dark eyes, as if scanning for weaknesses, strengths... just scrutinizing him in general. But that same old mask of impassive boredom did not fleet away from his visage, rather becoming more deep as he spoke up in a quiet, sarcastic voice. It was muttered quietly, but the crowd had fallen so quiet it was easily heard.

"I am here for your protection, citizen. Move."

He did not say "please", because he did not have to. It was his job and it was rather important; being polite wasn't in the job description.

"...I've heard your range of protection is vast and wide..." Tomorrow muttered to the smaller man before him, his dark sunglasses focused on his eyes. "...But also very selective. A true lawgiver should help in all aspects - not the ones he deems appropriate."

"I am not a 'true lawgiver', nor do I pretend to be unbiased in my judgements. The boss says kill..."

The Spear stood up straight and stiff, letting his hands unclasp from behind his back and fall to his sides. His eyes flashed and became just a shade lighter, taking on a very dangerous light; as if little fires had begun to simmer behind their passive, glassy surfaces.

"... and I say who. Now, if this citizen's inspection is over, move."

The towering giant before the man didn't take his hands out of his pockets.

He didn't even seem to blink as the other man took his hands out from behind him.

All he did was smile - a wicked, insane grin which bore the sharp canines within his mouth - and said two words in a chilling voice, unafraid, almost enjoying the moment.

"Make me."

Ryugi Kazamaru

Eloquent Conversationalist

Ryugi and the other two stopped once they saw a crowd gathered around some spectacle. Ryugi wasn't sure what was going on, buts he and the other two stayed away from the hubbub and watched from a distance. Ryugi's eyes caught the tall man, and he instinctively watched him...

"I don't have to."

Not changing his visage, nor altering his voice in the least, the member of the Spear raises his hand and points over the big man's shoulder, indicating something behind him. And then he spoke three more words with a tone of ultimate conclusion; a phrase which bore no remorse and no hate.

"That's his job."

**Slight edit for clarity...**

"Then we'll talk to him then, wont we?" Tomorrow asked, his grin not moving one iota as his hands were suddenly torn from his pockets to reach for the smaller man's outstretched arm.

For a man his size and bulk he moved exceedingly fast, like a true martial artist - gripping the boy's hand with his right hand, Tomorrow yanked him forward, off his footing whilst placing his left hand to his elbow, pushing forward with it as he span around the boy. Executed properly, the boy would be where Tomorrow had just been, and weilding an arm that could bend at 180-degrees as his elbow shattered with a gut-wrenching crunch.

Adrenaline was already gushing through Tomorrow's body, and he hoped the boy hadn't been lying - a second foe would be excellent round about now...

"Bad call."

Unless the big man was exceedlingly fast, or perhaps could make a move as daring as that with enough speed to alter it in mid-procedure, he would have been acting so boldly on the hope that the Spear would be taken by surprise. Unfortunately enough for him, being grabbed by the arm had been the plan all along. Of course there was nobody behind him, the crowd would have noticed it at the very least, and it had only been a ruse to draw the large brute into grasping the out-stretched appendage. And the moment that their hands touched and exposed skin made contact with exposed skin, the element of this Spear would be revealed:

Ice.

A cold unlike any the large man had ever experienced would have rocketed through his hand and into his forearm, most likely not up into his upper arm due to his size. But the chilling effect was so intense that the hand might not have been killed completely, once again due to size, but it was surely numbed. And the vice-like grip he would have been counting on to keep the arm in place for 'the break' would be useless for the moment it took for the wirey young man to slip away.

How unfortunate.

And he didn't even try to reverse the momentum the big man had given him from the yank, rather using it to dive past him on the opposite side of which he was spinning, using the brute's own massive body as a blindspot to get past him. So, when all things were said and done, the law enforcer was left, indeed, standing where the blonde giant had previously been, but instead of being injured, was perfectly relaxed.

Just as composed and calm as before, he reclasps his hands behind his back and takes up the same previous posture, he speaks while lightly regarding the big man's undoubtedly frost-etched hand.

"So are you done kicking my a**, or is it going to be even longer before I can get back to work?"

One step, two step, three step, four... five step, six step, seven step, more...

Bit by bit, the young cat-head inched closer and closer to the message board; the dangling pieces of tacked-on paper that held that plethra of super-part-time work known as 'adventuring' was just out of reach now.

...though, it was sort of pointless to be sneaking about it, considering that there was only another person or two there at the time. Most of the people seemed to have been drawn outside to stare at another scene that was taking place, and the normally crowded message board was left unguarded by the hard-to-reach-through mob that usually congregated in front of it.

Back home they used to post these things around in the Adventurer's Guild, but this town didn't seem to have one of those. In fact, the poor, confused boy wasn't even sure what building this was; only that the person he had asked in town had told him that he could find the message board here.

"Hmmm..." Tiem stroked his chin as he looked the board over; the stuffed cat sitting upon his head bobbing up and down with every movement. "HMMMMMM~..." he repeated again, louder, as if by somehow saying it in a more intense way he could stimulate more intense thought.

"Pulling weeds... geezer for a walk... rat-stomping... stealing candy from babies..."

"Not my style, man!" Tiem turned and suddenly shouted at the person next to him, who had also been perusing the board for a bit of quick cash. Needless to say, that poor man took a few steps away and continued trying to search the myriad papers plastered all over the board while avoiding the urge to look towards Tiem and question about the cat...

"Aww... hell..." he finally said, covering his eyes and reaching up to snag whatever piece of paper his fingers had decided that he was going to take; then, without even opening his eyes again, he turned around and headed for the door... then tripped over a bench... then got up and continued, this time with his eyes open.

John span on his heel, feeling the ice coming up his arm but ignoring it.

He never let go of the arm.

Tomorrow was an electrical elemental - the elemental opposite of the ice warrior. But just because he could emit electricity he didn't have to use it in the way the boy thought of him to use it. Whereas the boy could freeze and null with but a touch, Tomorrow also had a similar ability - using the electrical power within him to will his own hands and arms to keep moving, the muscles staying strong even as his thick skin began to cover in frost. Not only that, the heat generated from such a power warmed his muscles within his skin, keeping them from freezing to massive solid blocks, keeping the bones in his fingers from becoming too brittle.

Still grasping the boy's hand, Tomorrow's hand still to his elbow, Tomorrow now twisted his rihgt hand up, pulling the boy's wrist up in exactly the wrong way it was supposed to twist. Static laced up his arms and his eyes flashed within his sunglasses as he began to laugh, a loud chuckle which rose over the screaming silence of the crowd around them.

So fine was his power over his nerves, his muscles, his body, that he didn't even feel the cold on his hands as he vicously wrenched the boy's hand around.

"Bothersome..."

Something he had been taught since the beginning of his training as a fighter was that adaptation was the essence of battle (hi, Mike!), and when he sensed the spark of electricity in the man begin to combat his frost effect, he immediately changed his goals. Instead of simply trying to avoid the fight, now he was in it for real; and objective number one was to break that grasp. Those hands were strong, and his cold wouldn't work against the man, but perhaps that strength could be used against him. He mentally split a bit of a smile, although he didn't outwardly show it, as he pictured himself as a kid viciously grasping a popsicle in an attempt to steal it, only to have it slip out from his hands.

When the big man tried to twist the wrist, he fealt no friction, heard no crunch of bone, and since he couldn't feel anything in that hand due to his powers, wouldn't have noticed but for a moment that the Spear's hand had turned to solid ice; that big mit of his just slid smoothly around until his own bodily limitation kept it from travelling any further, for he had most likely twisted powerfully in an attempt to break the wrist.

The immediate threat was over, but he still had to get away. But how...?

Not being weak whatsoever, as his frame might suggest, the Spear uses his free hand to slam down a palm-strike on the hand pressing on his elbow; not an attack, but simply wishing to jar himself free. He did it at the same instant as he was avoiding the other attack, and formed a small spike of ice in his attacking palm just as a little bit extra incentive to let go.

If he succeeded in knocking the arm on his elbow away, then he could slip his icy hand out from the electric elemental's grasp and spring away.

((...Maxi?))

Seeing as taking out the arm was proving troublesome - twisting the wrist wasn't working, for some reason - Tomorrow decided to try a new tact.

Gripping the wrist tighter, a crushing grip within the gloved hand which encircled the boy's smaller wrist easily, Tomorrow drew his hand away from the elbow - just as the boy's own palm hammered down on his own arm - to slam his fist directly into the boy's back, somewhere within the small of the spine.

Since John was still holding onto the hand tightly - and the ice hadn't gotten the chance to melt to the point where it was slippery enough to be released from the rough bottoms of John's gloves and brutal grip, not to mention it would be like trying to pull a bulb out of a hole with the big end still within the hole - plus John had twisted around to the boy's side, John had free range to the boy's back and side with his left hand.

(( No, just Max. And could you give me a general idea as to how we're positioned? In my mind you're holding my right hand with your right hand, standing on my right with your front facing my right side - my right arm is held out straight as is yours which is holding it, and you have enough room with your left arm to get in a kind of kidney punch on my back, right? ))

"Eh...?"

Stepping out of the building and looking to the left down the street, Tiem noticed where everyone had seemed to congregate to; standing in a crowd watching something that he couldn't make out from this side of it... so, as curious as he was, he was also pretty hungry, which meant that getting work was more important right now.

"Oi~..." he muttered, taking the folded piece of paper out of his pocket and holding it between two fingers as he turned and started heading the other way down the street towards... towards... Wait, had he even looked at the assignment he had picked yet?

A moment later and a brief flurry of fast-reading in the future, Tiem turned a 180 and began walking the OTHER way, towards the docks and, incidentally, the scuffle...

((Hmph...not Maxi...

I'm still pulling you across with my right arm, so by the time you'd tried to freeze my hand and try to slip out, i've put one palm into your elbow whilst still pulling your arm taut. You've kept your balance up to now, which means i've been able to get around behind you - so bascially, we're chest-to-back, with me behind.))
