"I'm a doctor - of course I have a band-aid. Something better actually. Follow me out to my car."

He started in that direction, and looked back, waiting for Lyle to follow. Everyone he'd met here so far, he seemed to be quite fond of. It was a wonderful feeling, being needed again.

"Where else did he bite you?"

Lyle watched the floor as he walked, making sure the bird that was alternately following and leading him didn't get caught under his feet. Of course, now he was wary to glance up now and then to make sure he didn't meet a pole or chair or table, as injuries seemed to be magnetically attracted to him, and personally he didn't want any more, thank you. After avoiding a table he replied, "Uh, no where really, I think, unless you have a sewing machine along with a first aid kit." He tugged limply at the loose pocket on his jacket and the button popped off in his hand.

Dragon laughed a bit, and shook his head.

"No, I'm afraid I don't have anything to fix that poor jacket. You'll have to find something to mend it with when you get home. But your cut, now THAT I have something for."

He opened the door of his car, and dragged out a rather sophisticated first-aid kit, withdrawing some bandages, and a cleaning solution. He motioned with his fingers.

"Come over here, and let me take a look at that. It's the least I can do."

Lyle hovered next to him, peering into the car and then the first aid kit. He blinked as he was spoken to. "Are you, uh, someone's mother or something?" he asked, a smile glinting into view. It was all very much like a parent's job, it seemed, and the only person he could remember being so prepared was indeed his mother. Of course, his mother wasn't a doctor and this man was, but he figured that was beside the point. He turned his face to show the cut and stepped closer, mentioning, "Something hit me earlier. I think, anyways - an icicle or something."

Dragon chuckled a bit, nodded, and started cleaning the cut with a bit of saline mixed with rubbing alcohol on a damp cloth.

"You could say that. The people I call my 'brothers' are actually boys that I've rescued from various situations. So I suppose you MIGHT call me their mother? Most of them don't have mothers at that."

He dabbed a bit of cream around the edges of the cut to help it heal, and smoothed some gauze over it, holding it in place with medical tape.

"There. That ought to heal right up in a few days. Shall we go back to the party?"

Shanuh listened to the words that fell from Patrick's lips like water drips from a faucet. His expression never wavered, never faultered as he stared at the dark-skinned man with complete and utter neutrality. The flicker of anger, the ice of jadedness had long since melted away. For now, the loathing he felt for the companion wasn't worth harboring - there was too much energy involved to be angry and filled with rage.

For now, Patrick was nothing more than a thing, an object, a block of matter. His only redeeming grace was being found worthy to that of a wild haired teen with black and white wings.

The only thing that kept Shanuh from guiding Patrick - quite painfully - in to death was death itself.

. . .a shame.

One breath, two, and Shanuh finally decided to answer. "Well then, if that's how you feel so be it. Don't waste apologies on me. Iamel may be soft enough to forgive and forget, but I won't.

"Now," he began, pushing past Patrick with as much tenderness within the walls of a torture chamber, the masked beauty had nothing further to say. Perhaps, someday, Shanuh would forgive his abandonment of Iamel. Perhaps, someday, Shanuh's feelings may grow to put Patrick back upon a ever-so-slightly levered shelf.

But for now, he was no better than the rest that haunted his petshop walls.

For now, he was nothing but material and matter, worthless living beings made of dust.

"If you'll excuse me, I have others to attend."

And that was that. There would be no further conversation, there would be no need to follow.

Slipping through the crowd like a ghost, Shanuh could make himself seemingly disappear. A nod here, a small smile there. From one guest to the next, he played his role as host as well as he could manage. The loss of Patrick was no regret on Shanuh's plate. It was merely the way things went.

And so it was time. Edging closer to Shanuh, the robed one reached out. Pale fingertips brushed against the man's sleeve, causing the pin-striped manager to pause. There was no words spoken, nothing but an exchange of . . looks.

The silver and gold masked one met by the hidden face of death. There was nothing more that happened between the pair. Shanuh, emotionless as ever, gave nothing but a nod.

The robed one was pleased.

Wrapping an arm around Shanuh's waist, the shop keep did nothing to disengage the touch. "You needn't worry about the party. Nikel can handle things whilst we catch up."

The two, linked arm and arm, ignored the invited guests. Shanuh lead the robed one out of the party, taking his leave without a second look. Together, the pair disappeared in to quieter halls of the apartment complex.

One down, one to go.

The second grim reaper lingered within the bosom of the party. It ignored any words spoken, it didn't dare touch the food, nor inquire about the punch. The withdrawn creature had no such interest in the delights and joys of the living.

Oh no, this one had entered the party out of quest rather than choice. Things would be taken care of, soon enough. Everything would soon fall to pieces, or at least be leveled on to a fair playing field.

Take out the leader, and the rest of the pack will fall.

How did that song go? Two out of three ain't bad? Whatever the case, three out of four was just as good as any.

Let them suffer for allowing them to suffer.

Peaceful allegance couldn't - and wouldn't - last forever.

A few moments passed before the grim reaper decided to take his leave, solomnly pushing his way out of the front door. Their work here was complete.

To any who might follow, the creature seemed to dissipate in to the darkness. Slowly, like a fading sunset, the eye - no matter how sharp or magical - soon found itself staring at nothing.

Empty space replaced where the reaper had walked. And if any checked, no footsteps remained on the snow white ground.

Such was an ending for the day. And this ending was merely a beginning.

Xaxis was comfortable within the arms of the raptor. Typically, Xaxis was too aloof and detached to care for much physical contact. As a raven, he'd been wary of the larger birds and creatures that could easily turn his ebony body into that of a snack. Though he'd never feared kestrels - they were far too small - a falcon was a falcon nonetheless. His feelings never changed even when that as a boy - though he appreciated snuggles by Lucien, and the relaxing grooming parties Savius frequently gave him, physical touch was a rarity.

Lucien wasn't particiularly affectionate or full of hugs, and as it was, there were only a few who could get away with such close proximity of the raven.

Touching by strangers wasn't allowed. Iamel, Savius, Lucien, and Shanuh. Kin had to fight for such a right, a trust needed to be built before the raven would succumb so easily in to anothers grasp.

A look around the room, his eyes falling on Hylusis, and then the vulture and other various Birds. Some he remembered - vaguely - from his time upon the shops rooftop. Others, though Kin, were complete strangers. He didn't see Mitagna anywhere, perhaps the robin had missed the invite?

Whatever the case, it didn't matter. He was with his dearest friend, and look - there was an offering of iceless punch. "I suppose that's just how things go. Life is change."

Xaxis didn't mind such thoughts, though he didn't understand what the falcon was getting at. Why should things change just because there were others? Did the others even matter right now?

Jangling hand reaching up to push up his feathered-framed glasses, Xaxis gave Jer'ain another broad smile. Punch - though sweet - would be sipped upon.

"I should, shouldn't I?" Xaxis agreed whole heartedly, nestling back against Savius to enjoy his friends close proximity. It was always nice to be near the sword-weilding warrior. He was a good friend indeed.

"It was most comfortable - perhaps we should make a date of it." And the raven meant that in the literal term. Plan a time when he could come over and sleep within the raptors nest. Strange as it was, there was a sort of delight that burrowed within the pit of the bird's stomach. To be able to rest so close to Savius was indeed something to look forward to.

Lyle reached up and touched his now-bandaged cheek tenderly with one hand, raising his eyebrows at the amount of care taken to apply the gauze. He glanced back at the car again, as if it might hold other medical wonders [a portable stretcher, maybe a few empty casts, surgery tools, a dentist's chair] apart from a less-than-simple first aid kit. He nodded anyway and began to wander slowly back to the ball, led by an eager vulture, but staying behind to see if Dragon wanted still to speak.

On his quick look around, he DID actually see a portable defibrillator, a rolled-up stretcher, and a briefcase that probably held medication. A prepared doctor indeed. Dragon started back after locking his car, and caught up with Lyle and the vulture easily.

"It's not easy being away from home.." he sighed out, in a slightly bitter manner. "There's the matter of the plague, but then again..." Another sigh. "But you didn't want, nor ask, to know that, so I'm sorry for bringing it up. It's just been on my mind an awful lot lately, especially with my lover still there."

Kat Bbristled. The hairs on the back of her neck raised. She looked around and pin-pointed her 'fear'. Reaper. She sighed. She must be drunk. To prove that, she took a step and all but fell face first, she landed on her rump with a quiet thud. Even drunk, her 'sixth sence' as a cat never failed... Hmm.. Damn hallusinations... And now she was stuck struggiling to get to her feet- She could see them, but they had a mind of there own! Damned things. She flailed her arms looking for something- Or someone to support her.

Lyle looked sympathetically sideways at Dragon as he unconsciously injected blurbs of his home into conversation. As his vulture cooed low, to the ground, he shrugged lightly at the doctor's excuses. "Doesn't much matter, I guess. Talk about it or don't. Whatever, uh, tickles your fancy."

Snrk.

"Where do you live that has a plague?" Lyle asked, fantastically ignoring his bird. It interested him, the word 'plague;' he wasn't very familiar with it, not comfortable with it leaving his mouth before he explored it a while, but its oozing texture was nice and recognizable. Disease, he though, and it seemed right so he let it be.

D.S. shivered under the table, curled around her heap of claimed meat. Her pupils were tiny and her eyes wild. A low growl formed at any who's feet appeared to close to her chosen domain.

She didn't didn't need them. That needle didn't control her.

Her fur bristled at another set of shoes. The voices made no sense to her. Just loud blurs in her mind. Her black claws dug into the carpet getting caught at one point.

Don't do anything you'll ...regret. Yes, regret was the word. A new feeling that still confused her. She lowered her head to the floor and shook. Would someone even notice her? Doubtful.

She was truly alone despite the crowd.

Kat gave up on trying to stand, and sat legs spread across the floor in a V shape with her hands on either side of her for support. She noticed a someone crawling around under tables- Or was it two? Maybe four at times- She giggled aimlessly and stared at her, not recognising the blurred swimming face. Ohh this was going to hurt in the morning. With three kids and a wolf that telekinis(sp?) talks to you... Headache land.

But no matter.
That was tomorrow.

In the mean time- Where was that blasted tail that still held a drink! She cluched out for it, and after an amusing five minutes of her trying to catch her tail and ending face first into the floor a few times, she managed to finally catch it. Somehow the cup was empty.
Not good.

She wriggled her way across to the punch- Or what ever it was she was drinking seeming as it all tasted the same and had the same result. Once more she was sat with three drinks, one for each hand and another in the tail.

Yet she only got passed the first one before passing out with a just audible 'whump-Sploosh'. If anyone notised they'd have thought someone just pee'd themselves unter the table untill they actually -look- and see a what seems to look like, a dead person breathing.

"My home world, unfortunately. You see, I'm not exactly FROM Gaia..."

Another sigh, and Dragon looked wistfully up at the sky, and smiled to himself.

"Juridia. Land of death and chaos for most. Some of the harshest terrain and climate in the known universe. Home to over one-thousand of the galaxy's most dangerous animals, and most potent poisonous plants. Years upon years of winter, with temperatures reaching below one-hundred below, and winds that can rip the wings off birds. Sadistic gods, and crueler fates, with a government that's not, and a more-than-arrogant race of cat-people that believes they should enslave the galaxy. Hell, the universe. Still and all... It's my home. And I miss it. Things on Gaia, truthfully, seem a little.... boring."

Both the bird and the man blinked, shocked at the rather frightening and yet entrancing description of what Dragon could call his homeland -- the bird, although representing death, couldn't help but shudder at the very thought of his wings being torn off and snapped his beak; Lyle was frightened by more than just that. But of course, it wasn't truly fear. When one is told a story, it is just a story -- when one encounters the real thing, then can they be scared. Lyle blinked again. "Well, now that you mention it, yeah, I guess it is boring, but ... it's a hell of a lot safer."

Lyle shrugged, trying to cast off the image that had, against his will, jumped into his head. He couldn't even tolerate a low thirty degrees - and here he was being told about under one hundred in the negatives! No wonder Dragon had left; but then, the catman had said there was a fondness within him still for the place, vile as it was. The vulture in turn duplicated the motion and shuffled its claws, scratching the flooring.
