wwe.com
On Friday, the WWE Chairman, Vince McMahon, received an urgent phone call from Hulk Hogan.

Hogan said that there’s a possibility that he has a cracked meniscus, which in turn could possibly prevent him from appearing on RAW this Monday night in Memphis, next week’s RAW in Charlottesville and even SummerSlam.

Hulk Hogan had an MRI tonight at a Miami hospital to determine the extent of the injury which is in his right knee (his good one). Doctors will examine it over the weekend.

"It started about two weeks ago, like a toothache," Hogan said, "the joint on the outside of the knee. I was complaining to my son Nick that it was killing me all the time. I have been on the road with my daughter Brooke and haven't been able to work out my legs like I should."

Hogan added: "Yesterday, I did a couple of leg exercises at a gym. When I got home, I sat on my new couch and it was like sitting in a hole. When I got up, it sounded like a snap, an explosion in the kneecap. I can stand and walk a bit, but its hard for me to sit and get up and down the stairs."

Hogan was despondent that he might not compete against the Legend Killer Randy Orton. WWE.com reached Orton who is currently touring with the RAW roster in Australia.

When told about Hogan's sudden injury, Orton responded by saying, "Typical Hogan. I have been around the man since I was a child. It seems that every time he gets in a situation that he can't handle or if he gets in over his head, he blows out a knee or his back. Case and point, the old man (chuckling) blew out his knee getting up from the couch."

Hulk Hogan is arguably the greatest WWE Legend of all time, and if his injury prevents him from competing against Randy Orton at SummerSlam, there is no doubt he will see him sometime in the future.

No respect

By Kara Medalis

August 6, 2006

On last week’s RAW, Randy Orton attacked Jerry “The King” Lawler at the announce table, provoking Lawler to challenge the Legend Killer to a match. This Monday night on RAW, Orton will try to take down Lawler in The King’s hometown, Memphis, Tenn. But this isn’t the first time The Legend Killer has attacked The King.
“Me and Lawler, we have a little bit of history. I did a deal a couple years back where I hit him with my signature maneuver, the RKO. He’s actually one of the legends, on my long list of legends, that I’ve knocked off the block, so to speak,” Orton tells WWE.com.
Lawler says Orton needs to learn about a little thing called respect. “I used to be a big Randy Orton fan. I mean, even though one other time we were in Memphis, he snuck up behind me, RKO’d me … but you know, I overlooked that. I put that in the past, I let bygones be bygones, and I watched this kid, I thought, mature, but apparently he has regressed,” Lawler tells WWE.com.
Lawler isn’t the only legend Orton has a problem with. Last week on RAW, Orton’s parody, Orton Knows Best, mocked WWE legend and WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan, his family and his reality TV show. Orton even kissed a fake Brooke Hogan, and the Hulkster is very protective of his beautiful teenage daughter. A ticked-off Hogan was scheduled to be on RAW, but will be unable to appear on RAW due to a knee injury, and his status for SummerSlam is uncertain.
While it's unknown whether or not Hogan can compete at SummerSlam, Orton is focused on The King.
“I think it would be hard to match the amount of disrespect that I’ve given to Hogan with any other individual in this company or in this business … that I’ve been disrespectful to, but if anyone’s going to get disrespect from me, it’s Lawler,” Orton says. “I will be disrespectful, in the ring, fully dressed to go. I will beat his a** in his hometown.”
Will Orton successfully live up to his name of “The Legend Killer” in his match with The King? Find out.

McNEILL: Can Anyone Replace Hulk Hogan at SummerSlam?
Aug 7, 2006, 14:03

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

One Good Knee, One Good Legend: Hulk Hogan, the man once promoted on WWE television as the greatest professional athlete in the world, may be out of WWE's SummerSlam pay-per-view after injuring his knee while getting up off of his couch. This columnist once tore two knee ligaments shoveling snow out of the family driveway, so it's hard not to be sympathetic to the Hulkster's plight. Hogan is fifty-one years old. When Hulk talks to reporters about his bad knees, it's the only part of his public persona that isn't kayfabed in some way.

WWE was planning to go all the way with the Hogan-Orton feud, as evidenced by the fact that this weekend's episode of WWE Heat devoted a full hour to highlights of both wrestlers. Hogan's "dream match" with Shawn Michaels in 2005 had a lot to do with the good buyrate that show received. Hogan's scheduled meeting with Randy Orton isn't as big of a deal to most wrestling fans, because Orton isn't a star on the level of the Heartbreak Kid.

Still, even without Hogan and Orton, there's plenty of marquee matches on this year's SummerSlam. It is one of WWE's "Big Four" pay-per-view events, and the company won't be holding much back. The big show in Boston is already set to feature D-Generation X against The McMahons, Edge defending the WWE title against John Cena, King Booker defending the Smackdown World Title against Dave Batista (just a guess), Undertaker's "Last Man Standing" showdown with Great Khali, and Big Show probably defending the ECW title against Sabu.

The question is, if Hogan can't make it, who gets the call to face the "Legend Killer" a week from Sunday? It isn't that WWE has a shortage of Hall of Famers and other "legends" roaming around. The problem is that Orton has already done matches and storyline beatdown on most of the better-known WWE legends. Hence, the nickname. Still, the opposition has to be chosen wisely. You can't just stick Randy out there with Gene Snitsky or Tommy Dreamer and expect it to get over. Anyway, here are your top 5 Substitute Legend Candidates for SummerSlam.

# 5– Jeff Hardy: Jeff Hardy isn't a legend in the purest sense, but who cares? He's a relatively big name in the pro wrestling universe. It puts one of the better known new acquisitions on the SummerSlam card with something to do. Plus, doing a job to Orton at SummerSlam isn't going to hurt the charismatic enigma when he starts working on S

#4 – Road Warrior Animal: Quit snickering, Road Warrior Animal is a well-known wrestler, he's the broken of talent coordinator Johnny Ace and he clearly has some free time on his hands after WWE released him. Hogan can limp out there in the Road Warrior's corner and cut a promo for the big guy, which would solve the problem of his limited verbal skills. It also gives Orton another big victory on his resume. The match will stink, but it isn't as though Hogan and Orton were about to deliver a five star classic before Hogan got hurt. This has to be under consideration.

#3 – Jerry Lawler: If Hogan can't go, then all WWE has to do is drag out the Lawler-Orton heat for two episodes of Raw, beginning tonight, before The King can get his crown knocked off. It would also be a good payday for Lawler, which will help soften the blow about not having the main Raw color commentator announcing a major match.

#2 – Terry Funk: Funk has seen better days, but he's a former World Champion, he's willing to bump and bleed, and more importantly, he's never done a job for young Randall. No barbed wire, no thumbtacks, and no flaming branding iron? It'll be like a day off for the Funker. And finally…

#1 – Dusty Rhodes: Come on, you know Big Dust would love to get in one more big match. He's never faced Randy, and he's got more than enough charisma to make up for the absence of the Hulkster. Plus, think of how many more American Dream DVD's the company would be able to sell.

Hogan, Hogan, he's our man
If he can't do it, Dusty can!

i'd almost pay money to see Dusty/Randy. even if Randy lost, it'd be a sight to see. i wouldn't mind see Macho Man come out of retirement to take on the Legend Killer. i loved Savage in the day (never like Hogan but loved Savage) so to see old Randy against young Randy would be kinda cool. so that's MY personal pick for who should replace Hogan. please vote and feel free to pick your own person.

ok, this is the last strain of news i'm gonna deliever on Randy and Hogan till after Summer Slam.

I told you so
By Craig Tello
August 8, 2006
In an exclusive interview with WWE.com, the Legend Killer, Randy Orton, spoke about Hulk Hogan’s appearance Tuesday on "Live with Regis and Kelly," saying, "I told you so. I've been saying for days that Hogan isn't hurt and now I have proof. He has no plans on meeting me at SummerSlam. Look at how Hogan was acting on 'Live with Regis and Kelly' today.”
Watch: Hulk Hogan on Live with Regis and Kelly
"It’s clear Hogan can move around on his ‘bad’ knee pretty good,” said a contemptuous Orton. “He’s a dancing machine. I told you Hogan doesn't want to meet me at SummerSlam; he's afraid his legend will be killed forever,” he added.
Despite Orton’s claims, the medical fact remains that Hulk Hogan has a torn meniscus in his right knee and his much-anticipated SummerSlam match with the audacious Orton is in legitimate jeopardy.
Tuesday morning on Regis and Kelly, the Hulkster explained that he is, in fact, injured and intends on recovering in time for his epic encounter with Orton in less than two weeks at SummerSlam.
“I got injured a couple of days ago,” Hogan said. “I’m making an attempt [to recover]; right now I’m scheduled to wrestle in a couple of weeks. It’s kind of like touch-and-go with the knee, so we’re playing it by ear.”
As reported on WWE.com last week, due to his knee injury, Hogan did not attend RAW in Memphis, Tenn., on Monday and could potentially be unable to compete against the Legend Killer at SummerSlam. Less than 12 hours before Hogan’s television appearance on Tuesday morning, Orton was present on RAW to offer his opinion on the Hogan’s injury. Minutes before defeating the legendary Jerry “The King” Lawler, Orton said that if Hogan does show up in Boston on Aug. 20, the Immortal One’s “legend is going to be killed.”
“It’s simple,” Orton said on RAW, “Hogan’s trying to get out of the match. It turns out Hogan really does know best because Hogan knows that if he faces Randy Orton in that ring, he’ll be destroyed.”
Hogan has never backed down from a single challenge in his illustrious and acclaimed sports-entertainment career. The Hall of Famer and former WWE Champion has built an immortal dynasty based on the challenges he has conquered. One can be sure that if the Hulkster can compete at SummerSlam, we will see Hulkamania run wild in Boston.
Be sure to check back to WWE.com for updates on Hulk Hogan’s condition.

Hulk Hogan confirmed for WWE Summerslam
Submitted by Brian Cantor on Wednesday, August 9, 2006 at 3:31 PM EST

Will Hulk Hogan appear at WWE Summerslam to wrestle Randy Orton?

"F*** yeah," he told WWE.com.

The Hulkster, who received an injury scare in the way of a partially-torn meniscus in his good knee, confirmed that he will take part in his scheduled match at Summerslam. He will also be live on Monday's RAW.

“I’m going to show up in Boston, which has always been a hotbed of Hulkamania, brother. [At SummerSlam], I’m going to walk to the ring with my red and yellow, stand in that ring, and I’m going to kick Randy Orton’s a**," said Hogan.
