Any honking I've witnessed has been positive... at least, it seemed that way. Band at my school is second only to the football team, and we're the largest band within 10-20 miles, so we aren't that easily-intimidated.There was once a drunk guy who did interpretive dances to our pepband songs at a perfomance.

Last year this 8th grader started telling me what to do.... I've been in this band longer.... The funniest part was that everytime he told me to do something he'd snap his finger in my face.... After that... Whenever we had a break I sat on his sax. case, so he could get his water bottle that was inside.... I did that all last year.... This year I hope that he knows not to snap at me.....

We don't really get that in ours 'cause we practice in our staduim. Our school is football-obsessed so we bought this huge stadium many years back. It's nice, though 'cause the band gets to use the stadium for practice.
It's also nice 'cause it's not really considered stupid to be in band in our school because we have over 200 members of our band...so if all of us were considered dorks...that would be a rather large percentage of the school.

I haven't heard anything negative about our band, of course I'm on the wrestling team also so I'm not one to insult, all in all our band doesn't really get noticed. It's jazz band that people like and comment about.

We just get a few honks, nothing major...everyone knows the band is the most elite program at our school. One year the directors' tower was chopped down, but we think that was probably a band alumni...same for when it was painted pink and TP'd.

No one really seems to say stuff about our band (except the ever-so cocky football team stare ). I guess it's because our football team doesn't suck, and neither do we (although we were 100% better 2 years ago). So when people see us it's like "Hey, here comes the band." and when we leave it's like "Hey, the football team's coming back."

At a contest last year we had to walk under an over pass. There was this little black boy up there. He was yelling at us and shouting obscene things. We kept ignoring him, so he started spitting on us.
It was quite funny.

People drive past and honk or yell at us. Once they do it multiple times we yell back, "GO RENT A MOVIE!"

yes, we've had that happen. one time, we were on our way to some thing and a couple of skaters flipped us off. the entire band smashed against one side of the bus, yelling and returning the favor. on our way back the same thing happened again. it was actually kind of humorous. annoying, but humorous.

Not really.. our football team tells us to stay for the rest of the game sometimes, because we usually leave after half-time, but other then that, no.
Except at band camp. We had to share the camp with this football team, and we had to 'fight' for the field one time, so we had a drum battle for it. We were only allowed to use one drummer, and use one cadence. So, we had our section leader Justin, who plays quads/tenors go out there, and he played one of our cadences. Long story short, he schooled the other kid, and we won. Then the football team I guess saw me and the other snare player playing, and they kept on shouting,
"SNARE! SNARE! SNARE!" Everytime they saw us pass by. When we started leaving the camp, my friend Ben who plays Trombone started yelling,
"BONERS!" and .. yeah.
Then when we were pulling out of the camp, they mooned us. It was pretty funny.

... the kids at our school are blatantly ghetto... so they'll WALK by and shout s**t. I hate it when the durm major is clapping the counts and some a*****e starts trying to clap with him >_< good thing i'm trained by guard to pinpoint the right counts

I think it comes with the territory. We practice in the student parking lot and peolpe leave their cars in th middle of our "field" and my director got so mad that he is getting the cars towed if they are even in the inzone!

Yes... Today, actully, we had an interesting one... Some idiot from another school went parading aroun our bus loop (where we practice because the football team uses the 'marching field') and they were sporting their colors and screaming insults... Our band director is very good friends with theirs... They aren't gonna have fun at school tomorrow...

We've never been insulted quite as bad as some of you guys have. Probably because our band would've crushed anybody that rude. There are a few instances though...
- Some girl at an away football game walked by us and yelled "Band Geeks!" But then our director yelled back, "Yo mama!" lol
- Then my rookie year we were having flute sectionals in front of the school during band camp. There were like four or five guys with skateboards mocking us. My section leader (who was menstrual at the time) turned around and saw them. They yelled, "Band Geeks!" Then she yells back, "Emo skateboarding punks! Get away from my section before I hurt you!" And then she hurled a rock at them! rofl They skated away so fast...
But for the most part our school likes us. The football team adores us because we play all sorts of stuff for them to dance to. They were even motioning for people to cheer louder when we started playing! O_O I was like, "Sweet..."

well ppl drive by and honk sometimes but our practice field is sooooooooo far away from the road that you can't hear what people are saying. but i've been at a car wash for band and people have said that. so i understand yes yes
