At first it took all of Kismet's focus just to follow the stream of words. This other man- Igor, he said- also spoke of trancending time. At least they had their story together. And that's all it sounded like to Kismet, something that would be found in a book, if she ever managed to lay hands on one again. It was certainly odd that they would go through such trouble just to tell her a tale, however.

And then... "You see, there are powerful soldiers in other worlds that can fight Sehket."

That one statement turned everything around. The mere thought of challenging Sehket had been banished from Kismet's mind for some time. All it served to do was taunt her. There was no way to challenge something with its claws so deeply dug. At least, that was what she had forced herself to believe, to avoid disappointment. A flood of feelings rushed into her body, and the rest of Igor's words passed over her in a daze.

The fact that he spoke of other worlds and summoning only cemented Kismet's newfound hope. After all, it would take something so miraculous to overthrow the tyrranical rule. But the question remained... "You can do that?"

As Grondax entered the theater he noticed that there were not many people around. He sumised that the coming rain had made them busy, and decided that this would be a perfect time to snoop around. After all he always needed new dirt on these people. They were quite self reliant and even Grondax found it hard to bind them to himself. "There must be a way to bring them around," Grondax muttered to himself as he approached the top level of the theater.

This would be the first time Grondax would be able to properly explore the store rooms, which he was always steered away from on previous visits.

As he went up to the first room he heard sounds. While most would leave before being noticed, Grondax knew he had nothing to truly fear from these people. While self reliant they had no real way to dispose of him, "nor would their silly moral compass allow them to do so." Grondax thought to himself as he leaned into one side of the door to hear the conversation. Enough to hear something about a fountain with a fairy, and keeping the theatre safe. It sounded like something out of a play, but there was more emotion than that.

Grondax stood on one side of the door while he continued to listen and to wait for them to exit.

The only thing I require is your card. You did bring it, didn't you? The one that was given to you by a fortune teller?"

Though he asked, Igor had already reached out his palm for it expectantly.

This seemed to cause Adlei to redden, her brows furrowed in annoyance. "No! We'll stay then." Turning to Feyd, she apologized. "I'm sorry for causing you concern. I'm certain that my companion is correct, and your theatre will be kept safe until nightfall."

Elliot leaned on one arm and winked at Feyd.

Feyd was a bit at a lost as to what greedy little fairy they were talking about but he was relieved by the knowledge of the beasts they provided. Smiling softly he relaxed, sitting again beside the two. “Forgive me, I didn’t mean to seem discourteous, I was merely worried. To tell the truth I am quite enjoying your company, you two are some of the most pleasant people I’ve met outside of the theater crew.”

Grondax stood on one side of the door while he continued to listen and to wait for them to exit.

He had been about to continue, to ask about Sehket and this fairy but he paused and his smile turned slightly sheepish. Fished out the goblets again he filled them from the pail and set them down before standing. “Sorry, I’ll be right back, I promised Seth I’d only take the bucket for a moment.”

If they still needed water what he left in the goblets would hopefully suffice. Pushing the storeroom door open he had nothing else on his mind beside returning the bucket and getting back to the two strangers as quick as possible but all that left his mind when he saw that there was more on the door then hinges.

Grey eyes narrowed as they focused on the man who stood, listening so brazenly at the door. As subtly as possible he shifted his stance to block the sight of Adlei and her companion as best he could.

“You. What are you doing in here?”

"Hikari?" Yami glanced over as she continued to walk. She called back to her sister, for the girl had not spoken a word since they confirmed their return. Though, she did have to remind herself that she was silent out in the open. "What a foolish mistake.." she corrected herself as she saw the house come into view.

Grondax looked over lazily. If it was possible Feyd was the last person save Sehket himself that Grondax expected. "Well well, I expected to find some of the novice actors practicing their lines, but instead I find you." Grondax stated and tried to peer around the obviously aroused man, "Perhaps you have found a pretty young thing to tutor up here in the safety of the store room? Show her how all the moves are done?"

Grondax smiled and shrugged, "I guess not, both from your face and the fact that you don't have the oral talent for such a performance."

With that Grondax quickly looked under the man’s arm, and was surprised at what he saw. "Well clearly this is the jackpot." Grondax made a point to keep his voice low and amused, "not only are you keeping fugitives, one of them looking very interesting, but ohh I believe they are, are those real swords. You should be careful little boy. Knowing you, you would stab your eye out. So will you introduce me? All this talk of a fountain has me thirsty."

It all seemed so fantastical, yet the man was treating it like everyday affairs. And why not, Kismet wondered. This was his job, and it must be quite routine by now. Still, that did nothing to dampen her feeling of excited anxiety. In fact, it only deepened it.

The request for the card froze her actions, but only for a moment. The tarot card had been hers for a time, something that she could hold and protect. But this was something far more important. Fingers trembling, Kismet reached into her robe and drew out the card, brushing its image tenderly before she placed it in Igor's hand. It was karma that brought her the card, and the same force that brought her here. The "wheel of fortune" was already moving.

As the card left her hand Kismet shivered. "What happens now?"

Hikari smiled at Yami before nodding her head. The rest of the trip she remained silent, and once they got back to the house she hurried in. Quickly she put food where she thought it could be placed and stay as fresh as possible before running back outside- hoping Yami would hurry and do so as well before she could change her mind.

As if by an afterthought- however- she raced back into the house to drop off her coins in a hidden spot so they wouldnt be stolen from her while they traveled. She left the Tarot card in her dress, though.

Now content with what she had done she quickly made her way back to the door and hopped from one foot to the other impaitently hoping Yami would hurry.

Yami walked inside the "home" and placed down her share of the food along with Hikaris. She later headed over to her room, as she reminded herself to put away the money, and not keep it on her for good measure, not wanting it to be victim to a pickpockets quick fingers. "The mess..." she sighed as she started putting her small items away neatly in a wooden box...paint first...brushes second.....and money...last. She shut the box and took out a key and locked it, while securing it onto the chain of her necklace. "I hope I'm not taking up Hikari's precious time" she chuckled at her own small joke as she stood up and headed towards the door.

"Hurrrrrryy!" Hikari whined and stopped for a moment to ponder on her own strange behavior. Usually she didnt want to be outside, as it would mean people. And Hikari didnt do good with people other then Yami and-

Her fingers intsantly found their way to that damned ring again and she smiled wistfully as she lowered her chin as if to stare at the ring itself, but snapped out of it when she saw Yami.

The girl flew herself to her sisters side and clung to her arm desperatly, suddenly scared and yet excited about going back out.

Igor
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show. "Patience, my dear. Just a moment..." Igor fetched a foreign device made of ivory from under a pillow, running his fingers over a series of buttons on the face of the machine.

When he seemed satisfied with the sequence of buttons, he lifted another part of the device and pressed it to his ear. Then he spoke, though it was apparent that he was speaking to someone who was not in the same room. "Hello? It's me. ...I have explained it to her, so we're ready now. Send him quickly, we have other appointments today... Haha. Yes, but as they say...'No rest for the wicked.' Ah, I see...so he's on his way then. Very good..."

Propping the device to his ear with one shoulder, Igor continued to speak as he took Kismet's Tarot Card and pushed it through a small mirror that he had drawn from under another sofa cushion. The card disappeared completely, the surface of the mirror rippling as it swallow the object.

Suddenly, the blue haze of the room began to dim, light being swallowed by darkness from all corners. Only Igor's voice remained constant in the altered setting, the song of Nameless and Belladonna being washed away by shadows. It started slow and soft, but whispers began to gather towards the ceiling of the room. Igor's voice, still bargaining with the machine, began to fade among the crowded chattering, which grew so intense so it flooded the ears of those in the Velvet Room.

Although very little could be distinguished in the chaotic dark, the voices began to take form, whispy spirits that mingled with each other above the Velvet Room. One of the spirits glowed intensely, and he tore away from the others, flinging himself into an open box that Igor held on his lap. When he had merged with the wooden figurine in the chest, he spoke to Kismet, his voice echoing with the many voices that had passed through history:

"I wait by the gate from the past to the future. If change is what you desire, it is I who will take you there. Together, let us make this world's future."

As he finished, Igor snapped the lid shut on the box, waiting until the voices above had dispersed. Slowly, Nameless and Belladonna resumed their music, and the dim light of the Velvet Room returned.

When all had seemed to return to normal, Igor lifted the lid of the chest, revealing a young infant who appeared quite sleepy, though one of his eyes shined a brilliant white.

[ x ] Personality :: The spirit of Janus seems to exhibit two personalities that are opposite of each other. One often appears to be apathetic towards the world; however, the other seems to be curious and cheerful. These personalities seem to switch without any cause or indication.
[ x ] Notable Features :: White streaks run through the child's hair, and though one of his eyes is a clear and lively blue, his other is washed over by white.
[ x ] Relics :: This boy wears a mask on the back of his head; the mask is the face of an elderly man.

"I don't know." Larry answered honestly. "Maybe she's batty. Awful lot of batty people around. But you know that, that being your job and everything. Or it used to be your job. Or whatever. ...Or it's quite possible these Cards are genuine, unique, the real deal, and we've just happened to meet."

The last note was cheerful, but not sarcastic. Larry meant that too. He didn't think either possibility too extraordinary. The walk tapered on, out of the Boneyard and through the Courtyard. Larry fit his Card back into his pocket and revived his slingshot.

"Or maybe it's beyond coincidence! Maybe this is all some sort of fate-hitsuzen-whatever you like. I think I'd prefer that the Cards were genuine, though. It'd be an awful shame to put all thos expectations to waste."

Yami saw her sister latch onto her arm as her lips widened into a soft smile. She drew her attention to the outside once again and the possible roads they could choose. "Where to Hikari?" she asked.

At first the music was enjoyable, but within mere moments Kismet put her hands lightly over her ears, shivering from the chatter that flooded her senses. The darkness didn't bother the woman, she was used to that. But the sounds were so intense that she almost wanted to scream. But something about the smothering presence said that any sound from her would be taboo. Indeed, she was too frozen to even move anymore, and was all but paralyzed, with her hands cupped over her ears.

The sounds still came though, mingling and chaotic. One specific one permeated her mind, bringing almost a sense of clarity. Change. It was what she wanted of course; it was what everyone in Wynander must want. And it was within reach.

And then Igor lifted the lid of the chest. Kismet found her arm reaching towards it, uninvited... but when the lid was fully opened, it paused.

A baby? Of all things, a baby was going to help her change the world? How could it? And how could she take care of one? Not that she had a choice at this stage in the proceedings. Trying to make her lungs work again, Kismet tried to smile, something she was usually good at. "This is... him?"

He looked so small. Kismet hadn't been around anyone younger than the age of fifteen in some time, and was completely out of her element with newborns. Surely a few of the ladies had given birth, but most of their children had either died from malnutrition, or been given away to people who might be able to provide for them better. Would she be able to save this one from a similar fate?

She had to.

"Thank you," she said breathlessly, reaching out. "Is... is there anything else, sir Igor?"
