We don't have enough people to not allow someone to do weapon. We only have 7 people (1 senior, 4 juniors, and 2 sophomores) and the 2 newbies can throw 4s on rifle (39") and 6s on sabre (39").

Eek! *hugs all guardies* heart

I'm jealous that all you younger ones can already throw quads on weapons perfectly. gonk I'm a senior (been in guard for 4 years) and on a rifle I can only do 5's, sabre- 7's. Guess you guys have really good instructors. o.o

I heart band and colorguard. whee

my school did Pirates this year and they tried to get us swords but the school wouldn't allow it because they don't like sword fights.so we had to pretend with flags. this was the first year the guard section was acually together too. it was amazing.

I really like chain flags... but everyone in the band says that's cause I'm some kind of sadist. Or something. Unfortunately, you can't do much with them. I also like rings, and there's something undoubtedly cool about the standard old 5 1/2 foot pole with a shiny flag on it.

I have a little (big) question....

I was told that I was doing jazz running in the halls (I normally run like it in the halls) during the fish fry. The I was told that I should do gaurd. (I'm an 8th grader.) Right now I'm doin Indoor Percussion Ensemble, but we do have a winter gaurd. I like percussion, but gaurd would be easier for me to do than others. I have to choose between gaurd or pit. I don't like make-up and I'm a tomboy. Would gaurd be the best thing for me to do during marching season?

i had to choose between guard and mellophone. frankly, i just thought guard looked cooler, and i didn't want to have to play horn all summer and wear a funny hat. being on guard and surrounded by girls half the time can be really frustrating, and if that can get to you easily, i would suggest running away now. I'm not much of a girly girl and you'll rarely see me in make-up, but that's not really what guard is about. it takes strength, grace, confidence, and endurance. i can't help you compare your choices, because guard is really all i know, but choosing to do it was one of the best things i could have ever done, despite all the estrogen and tough practices.

I've just joined flags this year and so far it has been really fun. I've been trying to prefect my parallel, but I'm not getting too far. stare My coolest trip was to Santa Barbra! (Did I spell that right? X_X) We did horrible but we still had fun. COLOR GUARD IS ONE OF THE HIGHLIGHTS OF BAND! YEAH! LOL

I haven't learned anything but flags yet. I messed around with a riffle once, but our instructor yelled at us cause we should have been practicing our flag work. sweatdrop

I saw a band doing pirates this year and they had gaint black and gold boa staffs that they would hold and hit eachotheres staff with, with one hand at each side.
