[Mirielle Lacroix: 6 + 4 + 1 = 11]

Another rift, another utterly bizarre locale. this one, Mirielle wasn't prepared for at all; it was so terribly quiet, at first, and then so very not. She was frozen in fear, for a long moment, after the growling and rumbling started, and so she was late to start running, and worse, the forest itself seemed to be working against her. She tripped and stumbled over branches and rocks and logs in her way, and with every fall and every pause, she could hear the thing behind her drawing ever closer.

With a dawning sense of horror, she realized that she could fele its breath on her neck, and a talon reached out to grasp at he bacl of her shirt, and Mirielle screamed.

She hadn't felt this scare din a long time. Not that she could remember, actually, so not since becoming Amazonite. Here, in this awful moment, stumbling through dark woods with a monster on her tail, Mirielle was utterly helpless. She grasped for her magic, but there was nothing but a feeling of static--Amazonite's strength was lost to her here. All she had were her own two legs, and they weren't exactly doing so well.

[Abigail Oxton: 7 + 6 + 2 = 15]

She was still, hopelessly, alone. That was the worst of it, in Abbie's opinion. She knew her friends were somewhere in this crowd, but she couldn't seem to catch up to them, and there was no one else she knew here. She was stuck in a strange magical forest, and she could hear a monster growling behind her, and even though she ran, at first, what she really wanted to do was cry.

This wasn't how she wanted things to end, eaten by some dinosaur in a magical between-place with escape not too far away, but she was flagging. faltering. Tripping and stumbling, and there was hot breath on her neck and teeth gnashing behind her and a talon slashing and scratching but never quite catching her.

It had to be over soon. She needed to get out.

Gigi Gennaro – 9 + 8 + 5
Total = 22

This time the portal was less of a shock, but without the gravity boosting, Gigi landed heavily, twigs and branches snapping beneath her. She was running out of puff.

Tutting at tears in her stockings, and the scratches beneath them, she set off at more of a jog than the flat-out run she’d managed before. While the next exit was clearly visible, there were trees all around her, tall and very solid. In the dark, there was little difference between path and forest. The static was still behind them, though, and where it touched, the trees were gone as if they’d never been.

In the distance, something roared. No, not that distant, she realised. Something else was destroying the trees, much louder and closer than the static. The whole ground rocked with it.

No problem, Gigi thought, taking a deep breath, and speeding up again. That was a mistake. Streets, she could run up and down all day. Lunar gravity, sure why not? But the forest floor crunching beneath her boots was uneven, slippery with leaves. Once, a stray stick rolled under her foot, dumping her hard on her rear. The second time, she tripped over a tree root, face-planting in the dirt, as other people ran around and nearly over her. More than her stockings were going to be ruined by this adventure.

She staggered to her feet again and joined the crowd. Maybe the front-runners would have trodden down the path a bit by now.

Myles - 5+5+5 (15)

Myles had always suspected there was a monster under his bed, and he'd been so afraid of it that even now he sometimes found himself sleeping in a bathtub when he couldn't find Jeremy to chase his fears away. Well, that, and the fact that when the neighbors fought, the bathtub was the safest place to be in case someone started firing a gun.

But the monster in the forest didn't have a gun (he hoped). It had teeth, though, and a stomach churning roar.

Clumsy as always, it seemed pure fluke that Myles actually managed to keep up with the crowd and make it through the forest without killing himself.

Alexei - 10+10+1 (21)

Alexei's luck seemed to diminish once he was in the woods, and though he wouldn't admit it, it might have had something to do with the nightmares he'd had after his father's death. A cold fear consumed him; it wasn't enough to slow him down, just enough to distract him. He had often dreamed of some monster, crawling through the shadows of the forest. Hot on his heels. Briefly, he wondered if this strange world they'd been thrown in was just a culmination of nightmares, but that seemed too simple.

He couldn't focus on anything else; he had to run. It didn't matter how many branches bit into his flesh, or how many roots he stumbled over--he wouldn't give up. He had to keep pushing on.

Just like always.

Loren - 9+5+6 (20)

Oh.

Oh, he'd seen this movie.

It didn't end well for the back of the group.

Loren wasn't going to be in the back of the group. He might not have been used to the forest terrain, but he was used to staying alive. That was the goal, after all. Succeed. Come out on top. He didn't have to come first, he just couldn't come in last. He stumbled a bit--ran into a few things--but he was doing just all right.

For the first time, 'just all right' was sounding pretty good.

Leander - 8+10+9 (27)

It was dark. It was going to be hard to take pictures in the dark. He didn't really want to risk the flash going off and drawing attention to himself, but...he really wanted to know what was behind him. Curiosity combated his need for self preservation.

He took a few pictures, that was undeniable--he couldn't help himself--but no flash meant he had no idea how they would turn out, or how blurry they were going to be.

...It was a risk he was willing to take. He felt safe in the forest, like his second wind had just kicked in before he'd run out of the first.

Soleiyu - 5+8+6 (19)

If he had been in his Mauvian form, not this human abomination, he would have been much faster. Much more nimble. Much less of a target for whatever it was that was chasing them through forest.

Soleiyu was not ungraceful but he could have been better if he was in his true form.

At least, this one functioned. He tripped and stumbled and got a few bruises and scrapes here or there--nothing too shameful. The best part was that it was too dark for anyone to see him making a bit of a fool of himself.

...He was really going to have to practice in this form when he got out of here.

Mei: 3, 4

From a moon with gravity changes that made her want to throw up from getting motion sick, to a dark forrest so dense with trees that not even the stars could be seen up above. Mei could only find one reason to be glad for one thing.

Stable ground.

But that feeling of relief was short-lived when a roar echoed through the forest behind her. Leaves above her trembled from the sound and the ground seemed to quake as it charged toward them.

Trees bowed, and branches broke. People around her screamed in startled terror and almost all at once the crowd began to run towards the gateway ahead of them. Pushed aside and into a shrub by someone who was frantically sprinting past her, Mei pulled herself free of the gangly twigs and followed everyone else.

Fortunately, she didn’t need to be the fastest person in the group, she just needed to be quicker than the slowest person. Absolutely horrible thing to think or consider especially since it was her duty to protect civilians as a Sailor Scout, but she wasn’t powered now, and getting out of this alive was her primary concern. There was nobody here to help her so all she had to rely on was herself.

Once- Twice- Three times she stumbled or tripped but each time caught herself.

The portal was near but that monster behind them was getting nearer. She honestly had to consider that there was a distinct possibility that none of them would make it out of this forest alive, not without powering up to see it happen.

There is no scene. The last tear in space was so promising, but now there only a gaping darkness. Shadow covers everything and the world is cloaked in a shroud of dread. It seeps through skin and blood and bone and consumes.

This is a hopeless world, a realm for the discarded. There’s nothing to see, not really, but the need to progress through the void pushes the group. There is nothing ahead, nothing behind. The first few steps reveal nothing, but several steps in any direction and the darkness lifts, just a bit. A heavy shadow has swallowed everything but close inspection reveals objects--old objects, it seems. Things you can’t find in any store, now.

Everything is broken--cracked beyond repair, Pieces of miscellaneous things litter the floor.

In a world of discarded antiques, you’re the newest addition.

And there’s no way out.

No way out.

You can run, but there’s no lead.

Only despair.

And then, behind everyone, the static crackles again. The world hardly lights up, but it’s enough to see that there is a path--and in the distance, shrouded in the same darkness, is another tear in the world. Sometimes, a flicker of light pokes through. A strange glassiness seems to rise from the floor to the ceiling in the distance--a barrier, but a problem to deal with later. You need to get there, first.

Your escape is hard to see, and harder to reach.

The world wants to swallow you, wants you to abandon everything and give in. To stay forever and rot with the rest of the items time has forgotten.

If you don’t run, you’ll be lost to the void as well, trapped in this world of sadness and hateful despair.

Quote:
There doesn’t seem to be any real design to this strange new world that has swallowed you up but there’s a solid ground beneath you and the mountains of discarded items--broken and old and unwanted--make it obvious that there’s still a pretty straight forward path to the portal on the other side of the platform, even if you can’t always see it. Any item you touch in this world seems to immediately glitch and produce a bit of static. Be careful not to run into too many; it seems like the strange, staticy haze chasing you has a tendency to grow out of too much disruption anywhere else.

All characters must roll one 10 sided dice to proceed!

Quote:
If you roll between 8-10 you manage to avoid most major obstacles on your way to the portal. It’s difficult to see in the darkness, but you are able to keep your eyes trained on it and manage to avoid tripping or crashing into any of the mountains of discarded objects.

If you roll between a 4-7 you find some difficulty with heading towards the portal. The darkness is disorienting and you may find yourself brushing into some objects as you run. While you never really trip, crashing into things or brushing against them can cause a small spark or a strange numbing sensation. If you run into too many, a ball of static will begin to grow and begin eating the world around it.

If you roll between a 1-3, you have an incredibly difficult time traversing the dark corridors of this realm and find that you are often bumping into things. Any time you crash into or brush against a discarded item, you are struck by an uncomfortable spark or a strange numbing sensation. If you run into too many things, a ball of static will begin to grow and begin eating the world around it. You are at the back of the group and need to be careful; touching the static results in a strange, glitchy sensation that leaves you feeling frazzled and lost.

Please keep track of your roll totals in bold red font at the top of your post!

Oh, great. Cool. Infinite void! Well, Ryan had always wondered what one would look like, and good to know he ******** hated it, actually. The static crackling sent all his hair on end, but at least it provided enough dim light to show —

The next tear.

He started running again, panting and wheezing, but pushing himself. He knew he could make it, he knew it, he just had to keep going, and if he had a really bad asthma attack after this, at least he'd be alive to go to the hospital.

His legs and lungs burned as he kept sprinting, barely avoiding any of the strange objects and people around him. Barely keeping back the despairful screams in the back of his head telling him to just drop and let himself be consumed.

He wouldn't let that happen to himself. He'd finally applied to college, for ******** sake, he would not let this get him. Not when he was finally pushing himself for more to live for.

Enough was enough.

Darkness was something she was familiar with, it was something she navigated repeatedly and she'd had more than her fair share of moments where the magic of Destiny City had placed her in locations where this was just a normal thing. With her patience now wearing thin the woman finally found her footing and it was with significantly more confidence that she strode with purpose towards the crack that lay ahead of her.

Screw the discarded rubbish, she was tired of the nonsense and she wanted out. She'd had enough cardio to last her a week and now more than ever she wanted to find somewhere comfortable and put her feet up. If that required her to stomp through the dark towards the next weird-a** hole in this magical static infested world then she'd do it.

She elected to stop for nothing.

...Well almost nothing, she did stop momentarily to help someone who was struggling in the dark. She didn't provide a greeting, merely grabbed their wrist and tugged them along. To say their footing was poor was an understatement, but given they probably needed to head in the same direction as her it just made sense to pull them along. In a roundabout way she'd manage to help someone, even if her mood was becoming thunderous!

***********

Reggie!

Well at least his companion wasn't dead, even if the man was of the opinion that if Orias called him that one more time he would find him personally and throw him backwards into the awaiting maw of whatever was lurking in the depths. Regula would grieve of course, pay his respects where necessary, but the sacrifice wouldn't be in vain.

To Orias's credit he had managed to get to the 'exit' ahead of the fleeing man and due to his own voice carrying through the forest, Regula was able to follow it towards the next void. It wasn't so much hesitation that caused him to delay jumping through, so much as the overwhelming necessity to release an exasperated sigh as he stepped through to find out what the next set of utter stupidity awaited him.

...What he found however, was not a new hell so much as nothing.

Literally nothing.

"Oh for..." A growl erupted from his lips, the first true indication that he had all but reached the limit of his patience. He was not a fan of magic and if his life was destined to be filled with this junk then he was going to have to prepare himself for numerous occasions where he learned what it was to 'hate' the world (and everything in it).

Perhaps it was this sense of finality that had allowed him to find something within him that allowed him to storm forward with such purpose. Suffice to say that the moment he had caught sight of that tell-tale light he'd known where to go and he had promptly made his way there. If there had been obstacles in his path he was scarcely aware of them. The desire to get out had bested his opponent on this occasion and within a few moments he had managed to reach the next tear.

He had faith Orias would manage to get through, the cat had a knack for superior agility when it mattered most, but given their current location it wasn't as if the man could even see him to assist.

He hedged his bets for this one and stepped through...
