They were tearing it apart. It was beating far more feebly now, and Noah felt as if he was doing something awful. There were pieces of red muscle everywhere, and he tried not to think too hard about that.

The serrated surface of the shield was good for a little extra damage just by having Terry lean against a wall and let gravity do its thing.

Noah caught his breath and pushed forward again. He dug Laz's teeth into the surface of the heart and ripped at it.

THUD THUD THUD........THUD………..thud……..
At the final hit, the Heart swells and goes still. It’s strangely quiet without the pounding noise. The once pulsating walls now go still before, everything EXPLODES. Chunks of body and flesh rush out in all directions before turning into mounds upon mounds of swim out in a blinding cloud as bubbles float out the cave entrance. Once the dust settles, all that is left is a tunnel opening into a large cavern made smooth by the massive Eel.
In a moment....it's quiet....but not for long.
In the distance comes a long, drawn out call, soon followed by many more. Mermaids join into the sound, a long, drawn out bellow that goes on for minutes. As you make it back to shore, you can still hear calling out.
A song of mourning.

Melvin wiped off a coating of dust off of him and swam out of the cave, checking everyone as he passed by. "Is everyone okay?

Kimberly swam past Melvin smiling in a tired kind of way. She then held up her hand for a high five. "That was AWESOME!" This was the kind of training she needed. Stamina was important. "Um. but can you tell me, what was it that was just killed, and why are the mermaids upset now?"

Noah ducked under the surface of the water, letting it wash off what remained of the creature. "I'm okay," he responded, and shook his head again. "That was weird, toward the end ... I felt like it was my own heartbeat."

"Yes, I didn't exactly predict the heart chamber would have that kind of ....affect."
Swimming beside Kim, he looked out into the dark blue depths were the mermaids continued to sing.
"The creature was something they guarded. I'm not sure if they respected it or tended to it or even worshiped it. They knew where it was though whenever it moved locations. It wasn't a titan, but it was still a very large creature. It must have been valuable to them and their life here." Not that it mattered. It was dead now.

Kyle would have done more if he could.
The blistering heat and the massive thud thud thud sound made by the heart made his head hurt. So much so that he couldn't even stand upright without risking the world spinning dizzily around him and threaten to empty his stomach contents. So the poor Sun trainee spent the rest of the battle curled up on himself in a corner of the chamber, holding his head and stomach contents in until the wretched thing's heart was finally stopped. Permanently.

Pressing his hand against the wall of the cave to steady himself, Kyle slowly got up and quietly hobbled after the rest of the hunters to the water to begin the ascent back to Deus.
"I'm okay. Thanks for all the help back there."
There were a couple of sobering moments back in the cave when it dawned upon him just how helpless and weak he was to allow himself to become incapacitated like that. He was lucky that the other hunters were able to help him so that he was able to make it back with his life and only a twisted ankle.
He might not be so lucky next time.
