Isn't the same often said about guys met in person as well? Actually, I distinctly remember it being a common phrase: "Guys are only interested in one thing".... so even if you're trying to paint a picture of men on the internet being horrible, what you said isn't really any different from an already existing perception of men regardless of whether they're online or not.

"You are my friend, no matter the distance."
Like a lot of people have already said, I've met some of my closest friends online. My best friend lives a few states away, but we still chat and play games together, and talk about our lives as if we lived next door.
I also met my fiance online. We both hung around in AOL chats (back when you could find RP there) about 12 years ago, and kept in contact since. We decided to meet up in person a few years ago, and we've been inseparable since. We live about 4 hours apart, but next spring, that's going to change when we're married.
It's very possible to forge relationships online, if you know the right way to go about it. I've known so many people, including my best friend, and my pseudo-brothers, who found their significant others through the wonders of the internet.
At our age (early 20s), it's difficult to just go out and find people. Bars and clubs are out; most of the people who go there aren't looking for (or ready for) a long-term relationship. A lot of college students are the same way, at least where I'm from. They preferred to party and live their life than find someone to settle down with. It's just more realistic for us to be poking around online. After all, love happens in the most bizarre of places.
Just be careful about it, if that's what you choose to do. Not everyone is gonna be a prince or princess charming. Yes, girls can be predators too. razz
Also, wow. Old thread is incredibly old.
