Rota had hit another Mother Lode. This would speed up the process considerably, especially if he continued to hit them. He hoped he did. He felt he was adept at mining enough that he would be able to spot the lush deposits of minerals far easier than before. It was all a matter of time before he was able to find them consistently. His mine gave him such bounties of gifts, so it was only natural that such a thing was achievable. He thought about that more as he worked. What trials awaited him on the second floor? What trials still awaited him HERE?

Everything BUT coal. Figured. Rota shuffled them off to the side and continued wailing on the rock face with his pick. He needed more coal beyond all else. He had to get more. It was required for his line of work and his art. If he ran out of Coal, then he was out of business until he got more, and that was inexcusable. He would make sure to provide the best and most reliable service possible. He aimed to please. While Rota still had yet to come across any Travelers to sell his wares to, he still had the desire to make the weapons that generations of wanderers used.

Nothing BUT Coal. Rota didn't know how to feel about these all or nothing approaches to his mine now. The Mine seemed really indecisive on what it wanted to do now, and that did not sit right with Rota. Something was dreadfully wrong. Maybe it has something to do with how close I am to leaving? Is the will of the mine distracted? He beat his pickaxe against the inner walls of the mountain, trying to draw its attention back to him just like the mountain had done for him. He needed the mine to be with him right now instead of being distracted.

Just coal again. Rota didn't know what to do now. He decided the best method was to just press forward and see what happened. He hoped the mine would come back to proper form soon, or else he would have to change branches again.

The player's mind was going numb. Such tedium was not unfamiliar to him, but at the same time no one truly enjoys doing the same repetitive, mind numbing task again and again. He had already gone through so much development in here that there was nothing left to be invested in. there was no discovery, no exploration. Just absolute, ceaseless, REQUIRED, grinding. There was not much left to gain from this either. Rota was Level 7 now and his skill rank maximum hadn't increased again. 9 more points and he would be capped. That was a goal of sorts he supposed, but damn the things he had to do to get there.

This at least had turned into a coal vein. Rota was still concerned how his fortune had failed him so much so fast. He then thought about Abyssian, and he understood. That blade was a miracle of miracles. A one in a million shot that happened that no one could repeat on purpose. No wonder he was having such a rough time getting rare and mother lodes, all of his luck was USED UP. Despite this, he was confident he could find something, so he proceeded on as planned.

The Player knew he didn't have the best luck in the world, but this was just silly. The fact that he had such a high skill yet still managed to miss glory every time was maddening. Why did it have to be like that? He really wanted to punch his luck in the soul right now, but the tedium was more important of a task.

The coal vein kept pumping. Rota knew that he needed Iron too, so this was beginning to get to him. While admittedly, he could probably make 20 or so ingots safely, it was the principle of the whole thing that was the problem. He needed Coal faster than he was getting it now, and that meant he needed to find mother lodes or else he would be here for an eternity trying to get what he needed. He was easily the best Miner in the Gloomwood by nature of being a Blacksmith alone. It was getting silly at this point. He set out to become a smith, and Artisan, yet most of his time was away from his borrowed forge gathering the materials he needed rather than actually FORGING. It shouldn't be this way, yet it was. Oh well. The better miner he was, the quicker and easier he should be able to get what he needed...in theory. This session of mining was quickly deconfirming that ideology.

And then Rota hit nothing but stone. He knew there was a reason he had branched out in the first place. He returned to the first branch of his Mine, the same one that had been the resting place of the Orb. If he was going to find materials, it would be here, he was confident of it. He went at the wall with determination and hope. The mine couldn't just shut him out like this. He would not allow it. He would find what he needed whether the mine wanted him to or not.

With the discovery of coal only, the feelings of futility set in with Rota. He must've mined out all of the mother lodes the mountain had. That had to be it. As long as the mine was still giving him coal at least he was safe, but how long would THAT keep up? The thought of his mine running dry had never occurred to him, and it was not a happy thought to be having right now. He needed his mine to continue and prosper if he was going to continue being an Artisan. He couldn't smith if he was given no materials. He only had his supply to sustain him, and with the amount of practice he intended to get, that was not nearly enough. Rota needed more Iron and coal. That was the bottom line. He would not admit defeat now. He had come too far to do that.

Pure stone again. This felt more of a slap in the face to Rota than it ever had before. There was no excuse for his mine to be doing this to him now of all times, and he refused to have such an insult stick. He pounded the wall of his mine harder with his trusty Pickaxe, breaking of chunk after chunk of stone in his way to the riches that were being kept from him. He would not accept that his mine was refusing him now. Outright BETRAYING him. it was not possible and intolerable. Rota had asserted his will on the mine once before. it was time to do it again.

Pure stone AGAIN. Rota was beginning to feel defeated. This shouldn't be possible. He beat on the walls with all of his fury and determination, asserting his will on the mine. Rota did not get how this could be happening. The only explanation was that the creation of his blade had stripped all fortune out of him. That him catching lightning of that magnitude had ruined his good luck for life. Mining had now once more become the training exercises that he had told Alyx about. The training sessions that he would spend hours on one specific task, and make zero progress for entirely too long. That was the treatment that his mine was giving him, and it was not appreciated at ALL. Rota was officially mad, and pumping all that resentment into the mine.

FINALLY Rota encountered more coal. It was a small penance to the enraged demon. He was still hacking away at the wall with righteous fury in his heart and sending shards of earth flying everywhere. He was mining on pure energy of anger now. there was no other desire but to find ONE more mother lode, just to prove to himself that it could be done. It SHOULD be able to show up, but his mine was secreting them away from him in ways that baffled the mind and erred on the side of ridiculousness. He would find what the object of his desire was, and no force could prevent that.

Rota was pounding the wall like a living Jackhammer, when he found the Mother lode he had been searching for. The sight of it forced Rota to breathe and calm down. He would be fine now, unless this was an isolated incident to lull him into a false sense of security. The demon was not convinced it wasn't. With much suspicion, he continued to mine down the current path, not staying complacent for a second. The last time he had gotten complacent, the current comedy of errors started, so there was going to be no moment of confidence or acknowledging a status-quot until one presented itself. This was not a series of events he wanted continuing.

Just as Rota feared, he was back to only stone. This entire thing baffled the demon as he burrowed forward, frustrated at the happenstances before him. He knew that minerals were here now, just that his mine was keeping them form him. Why? Was it afraid? Rota's rhythmic swings skipped a beat in realization. It WAS. If Rota found more materials, that meant he could make more ingots. if he made more ingots, he could make higher quality ingots. If he made higher quality ingots, he could feed them into Abyssian to make it even stronger. That was when the pounding of the pick skipped AGAIN. Rota just realized that the form of Abyssian that he was using was not even the pinnacle of what it could achieve! The power he could hold in his hands if he pumped more into it...the thought was beautiful. And to think, the concept of this was so frightening to the fabric of the Gloomwood that his own Mine was attempting to thwart the effort. Rota was almost flattered now. He refused to be stopped though. He continued swinging the pick, more determined than ever to find materials.

The jig was up. Now that the mine's plan had been found it decided to give in to the demon's desires. Rota found a Mother Lode waiting for him after he had dug in a little farther. He set the usable materials off to the side as usual and continued digging. It was only a matter of time before he found more iron and coal. Rota let himself get lost in thought as he planned the future of his blade's upgrades. Such a pinnacle blade deserved only the best, and by The Figure that's what it would get. Only ingots that were Flawless and above would go into his weapon. Anything less would be used for practice and weapons for sale, unless it was Alyx's sword and shield or a special request. This was what he was doing all of this for.

Some much needed Iron and minorly useful Quartz, but no Coal to be found. Rota was not going to take this lying down. He stepped up the pace((side note, I LITERALLY stopped myself from making the unintentional pun 'Picked up the pace')) and continued burrowing his way through earth and stone. As he was chugging along, he made the conscious decision that he needed to develop his Light forging abilities. Healing Crystals could be a fantastic help in a pinch, and if he could make better ones then he would be set. He already had a bunch of Quartz, and to his knowledge it only took 1 crystal for any recipe, so he could go crazy with it. Who knows what amazing feats could be done with this wondrous form of smithing?
