"I will go back to camp." Mikael said, seeming heartened out of his shivering by Horace's compliance with his hand being held. Still, he didn't seem deterred by the gunk there, nor did he notice it being stealthily wiped off on his coat. Instead Horace got the starry eyed look of a saviour who had swept in and helped to rescue the boy from a terrible fate.
He might have told him how amazing he was, completely missing the point of what had unnerved Horace so much about his comment to Al, but was distracted by the even more horrible creature that showed up.
Hit it? He didn't want to make it angry, but -
the voice snarled, impatient with the persistant weakness and fear.
He backed up as much as he could without leaving the safety that was Horace, hefted the gun once again and shot. It was only easier this time because this one didn't look so much like a person and he could try very hard not to think about it.

The response Robert gave to her made sense, and she certainly trusted him to accurately advise her in this matter, but her expression only grew more confused. Mimsy was silent and thoughtful as she lowered the coin to eye level, where she turned it over as though she were skeptically examining it for any tricks or indications that it wasn't as it appeared. Svensyl was perceptibly discomforted by the wish she entrusted to him, concerned by what seemed to him to be a needlessly redundant thing, but offered nothing in jest or mockery. When she finally threw it into the fountain in an impressively graceless manner, she stared at the point where it met the water, watching until the ripples dispersed and disappeared entirely. Careful fingers selected another stolen wish from her collection, and as she took a deep breath and shifted the coin between her fingertips, she turned to look at him again. "Robert?" This time, her voice was nearly quiet enough to be smothered by the sound of the fountain, absent of the manic enthusiasm that had been present just a moment ago. "I have changed my mind. I don't like this. I don't like the feeling of hiding my wishes from you."

Lydia went quite still for a few moments as her eyes wandered around the mall and those who were putting their lives on the line to take down each infected as they appeared. Her once chipper expression wore away to something much more subdued, and she visibly flinched whenever there came a particularly loud scream. The smell of blood and something rotten was thick on the air, and she suddenly seemed to shrink in against Aro's side. Finally, she turned her head away, unable to watch anymore. "You know, I bet they could actually use us here more." She said, obviously going through something internally that she just could not deal with at the moment. "Unless you'd rather go, I mean....." She wouldn't make him stay, of course, but if he went, could she really stay behind? What if he got hurt? "Oh hey!" She found something to distract herself with, namely an overly talk green haired man who was wandering off on his own, following a trail of what appeared to be..... Well, it was blood. She swallowed hard. "He shouldn't be on his own, come on!" She tugged on Aro's arm, suddenly now determined he stay within her sights. Within moments, they had caught up, and Lydia quietly joined Jack where he stood, peering around him at the child, also a safe distance away. "Oh dear...." She whispered, glancing up at Jack then. "Er, I mean, hi! Oh, they're a civilian, right? We should ah...." She glanced at the child's hand held towards them. "Perhaps subdue her, like with those infected hunters during that mission a few months ago? Maybe they have the antivirus at the ice rink." She said this all quietly, while giving the girl a hopefully reassuring smile. baneful just to let u kno Lydia is over with jack now!

"When the mess has been cleaned up, we can look for her." By "we" he meant someone else, of course, assuming her mother wasn't one of the infected getting slaughtered out there. Jack paused at the bite wound, then desummoned his weapon so he had both hands free to man the net gun. Thank god for unrestricted access, even if he could only use this one once.
He paused when he heard footsteps, and Arorangi and Lydia were treated to first a narrow-eyed glare followed by a more relieved (though no less tense) look. "Those were my thoughts too."
He turned back to the child. "I need to subdue you to bring you back so someone can look at you," he announced, less for the girl's benefit than it was for the surveillance evidence. Killing a civilian outright wouldn't fly if he didn't exhaust other options first. "You'll be safer at the camp. The net won't harm you, but it's for your safety as well as mine."
Steadying the runic, he aimed and pulled the trigger.

Of course it wasn't the best feeling in the world when everyone else had to pick up the slack for you, especially when the target was nearing its last leg. Milo felt a pit in his stomach and was glad the lower half of his face was covered to hide his large disappointed frown directed right at himself. That tail whip hadn't helped at all and the extra dose of acid sprayed upon his coat from Finn's overkill didn't further it either. It felt like he had a little bit in his hair too (hopefully it didn't burn THAT much).
"Haha, sorry about that, guys." He still tried to laugh, but it sounded a little bit pitiful and ended with a big sigh. The Sun took one thoughtful step backwards and give his weapon a small flick and his head a shake, mostly in a vein attempt to cull Koume's scoldings. It didn't work. And he at least was paying attention enough, to her and their surroundings, to notice just as Peyton had that there was yet another infected on their way.
A big guy, what seemed to be its innards dragging on the ground. And spikes. There were a few broken tiles in its wake thanks to its mass but Milo still held his ground. Okay, this one looks kind of toku-ish, he thought to himself (the tengu hissed at him to shut up and get his head back in the game, of course. And to make up for his blunder).
With a quick glance at the others, reading to see if any of them were going to step up first against the behemoth, Milo took his chance at redemption. In the first few steps, it brought the handle of his naginata back behind him and with a few more he swung it out in an even elegant arc in front of him. His intentions were to dig in deep, at those exposed bits of intestines. But his blade dug into one of the hulking arms instead. Despite the miscalculation and the hope for something squishy, the blade did feel like it was going through seamlessly and not hitting as much resistance as he had thought it would.
(He did feel much better actually hitting it, thank you. He was smiling)Quote: hp: 37/50 damage: 6x2+3 = 15 charge: 1/3 remaining hp: 95/110 Quote: Sun: +3 attack melee weapon: Melee weapons are super effective against ARMOURED type infected, do double damage on this type!

"Sister?" Al attempted to "helpfully" finish for Horace as he went to attack again. This time Nuru emitted a bright fiery glow before bursting in flames.... that enveloped Al.
Apparently that vile spittle was quite flammable - and Al was much closer for it to catch on to.
He decided now was the absolute best time to shriek, drop, and roll around.

With the enormous foe that stood before Isaac and herself, Nellie had neither the time nor the attention to spare to look into what Isaac thought of it much lest attempt to rectify Rep's obviously mistaken interpretation of their partnership which had already been made known to everyone present through the mall announcement system. Picking herself up with the Sun's help, she gave a nod at his warning, following his lead in backing up a little as she quickly reassessed the situation.
"Mmm... is Isaac afraid?"
She was. Even if she had been around for awhile and had been told right from the very beginning that their lives would be on the line during missions like this, it still wasn't enough to prepare her for such a situation when the odds were so greatly stacked against them that the possibility of them surviving was really slim. No amount of pep talk could ever prepare anyone for something like this.
"What if... Isaac and Nellie don't make it back..?" She glanced worriedly at Isaac, almost jumping out of her skin when one of the ceiling boards overhead gave way and almost landed on her had it not been for the protection afforded by her fear shields.

The girl didn't resist at all, nodding distantly to the assurance that they would find her parents. More people arrived and they too got that helpless, teary look.
"Subdue?" she asked, uncomprehending, but quickly found out what it meant as the net closed around her. She cried out in shock and alarm, struggling in the netting out of more instinct than anything else and getting blood all over the place.
"Please let me out, I don't like it!"
She was at least light and easily moved.

ANNOUNCEMENT
The by now familiar tune of the PA system rung out across the mall. "Helloooo shoppers." Rep sung. "Going to have to work a little faster out there, it will be dark before we clear this place up."
"But people are doing rather well, all told. VERY POSITIVE! The loser brigade over in women's clothing finally killed something, now they are all in trouble. Good job catching fire Al. Don't set off the sprinklers in that area please dear." There was the sound of manic drumming of fingertips on the desk. "It is great to see even people like Milo and Oliver pitching in and we can all hope they will hit something before the day is out, don't get dazzled by Peyton you two silly billies! Nellie and her boyfriend seem to be in a pickle, will they survive? Find out here!" There was a moment of laughter and he went on.
"And GOOD JOB team Jack, that is how small children should be handled and oh... oh Mimsy and Robert, you might want to wish for the inclination to do something about the possibly impending doom over here ha ha ha, no I'm kidding, wish for nice things and happy times you two lovely people."
He sniffed melodramatically. "And I see how it is Jordan, you only want the boys with the scythes. Good for you I suppose, nothing wrong with being appealed to by the agricultural background of others!"
"Oh yes, last but not least, a reminder to bring your rescued civilians to the ice rink, and for other free-range civilians to come this way, the longer they stay here the more chance they too will become infected, and that is a sad and tragic story. You non civilians... well I'm sure you'll all be fine even if you are here all day. I'm fine aren't I? Ha ha ha ha - "

"Yeah you don't smell like a bouquet of roses either," Noah shot back. "I'm gonna skip the acid but maybe I'm gonna burn my clothes." He shook one foot, and a glob of something dropped wetly to the floor.
He was about to elbow Al for the pointed comments, but the creature following them interrupted the conversation. Noah squeaked with surprise. Laz snarled in his head, straining eagerly toward the new threat, a vicious hunger in weapon form.
The flash of Horace's healing charge told Noah that Horace should be okay for the time being; Mik backed up a little, but actually shot the zombie this time. Still between Noah and the zombie, Al moved to attack again; Nuru lit up, but instead of the fire shooting out toward the creature, it caught and blazed rapidly back onto Al's clothing. "It's flammable??" Noah yelped, and as Al shrieked, he darted closer to catch the other man's sleeve and shove him hard toward the decorative fountain in the middle of the hallway. He'd apologize later.
That left nothing between himself and the zombie. Not that he wanted to use anyone as a human shield anyway. The thing lurched toward him, stretching twisted claws in his direction, and he swatted the limbs away with Laz's blade, the edge catching and dragging at blackened skin. Dark, foul fluids sprayed out of the wounds, and the zombie made a horrifying wet belching sound and coughed more of the acidy stuff onto Noah's front.
Noah backpedaled hastily, grimacing and wiping the backs of his hands on his coat. He was gonna have to burn that too.

"He's got good reflexes on his own," Jordan put in. He kept Ferros on the zombie's wriggling form, keeping it from scuttling away; Ro moved in to strangle the thing, and Shu smashed its head. Somehow, the creature was still moving after all of that; weakly and erratically, but hissing and bubbling and quite clearly still intent on harming them.
Jordan grimaced, and took the risk of lifting Ferros again, swinging the hammer's weight up to shoulder level. The spitter tried ineffectively to drag itself away, but it didn't get far, and Ferros came down squarely on its head and torso, splattering stinking, stinging goop across the floor and onto Jordan's boots and pants. The remaining limbs jerked and went still. A pattern of cracks fanned outward on the tiles underneath.
"Ugh," Jordan said. "Everyone all right? Ferros has a charge if anyone needs to be healed." He looked around the group. "Do we want to head back to base, go further in looking for more, or try to find the civilians in the bathroom?"
Another announcement rang out overhead. Jordan looked up and raised one eyebrow. Rep sounded a little manic; Jordan was concerned and relieved all at once to hear an edge of the more familiar aggression showing through the weird, cheerful positivity. "It's the way they curve," he raised his voice toward the nearest visible camera, dripping with sarcasm. "You know me, I just can't ******** resist that."

Mikael at least hit it and Horace absently patted his shoulder. He disliked the boy a lot less when he was actually trying to do something hunter-y. If only someone could easily get him to believe that these things were ok to actually hurt. It sounded like a long, thankless task, though, judging from how Mikael reacted about a lot of things. America could do it, maybe - she liked his overly-childish navite.
And then Al caught on fire. Horace had tried to move forward, but Noah was already there and Al was tumbled headlong into the fountain. ******** loser brigade. "So much for your positivity, Rep!" Quickly, he disentangled himself from Mikael - he wasn't about to try and drag the boy with him when trying to take on the spitter. He was a liability. Horace darted forward, dodging a particularly nasty stream of fluid. The thing had far too many limbs, too many eyes, and too much oozing grossness. Jannisari clicked disdainfully in his head.
{it is not even the correct kind of blood.} {Then what is?}
Horace saw an opening and sprang closely to it, hands reaching out and twisting. Things popped and fluid flowed across both of his arms, burning his skin. Still, he pressed his hands forward further, pulling, pressing, twisting what he could find. He could faintly see Jannisari's glow under the thick ooze. It screeched and the limbs shuffled around, pushing Horace away violently. He landed on his back and rolled up, trying to shake the burning off of his arms.

Al was on fire, Al was on fire. What was wrong with Deus? What was wrong with this whole thing? And there was someone saying mean things, mean things that weren't very fair. It was all really upsetting.
He refused to get close enough to get spat on, and instead used his charge, closing his eyes and channelling the power into the gun. The jaw moved and opened and charged a shot that careened through a rack of clothes and thunked into the spitter, before ricocheting off and hitting the ceiling.
"Sorry!" he called as it rained bits of broken ceiling tile.

: "Shu, Shu you gota move before." Clink Thunk. Ace went for the kill but the weapons became tangled as Shu shuffled about dealing with the spitter goo blocking her vision. All in all this wasn't going TOO bad, they had stopped the creature from getting away and soon it would be dead, they just really needed to sort this out better. "Good reflexes or not, we gota work on coordination here, too many long poking weapons to get in close like this." The zombie squirmed below and Roland pulled tighter on Sylvia invoking another grargled hiss from the beast and a howl of anger frm his weapon for being soaked in the vile filth. "Oh dammit..." He saw Jordan moving the hammer and waited till it was level, as soon as it was he dropped the top half of his weapon jumping to the side just as the hammer came down with a thundering boom and the mixed sounds of bone and stone cracking and crumbling under foot, or hammer rather. "Well, that was.... messy," he snapped his weapon, the segmented parts snapping together with a series of clicks before he snapped the scythe to the side spraying the ground with bile. "We should go for the civilians, if we don't help them this whole operation will be an even bigger mess. They could be turned, or killed and that's not helping us at all." There was a pause at the announcment, he looked at Jordan and frowned, on any other day he MIGHT have liked the implication that Jordan fancied him, but it was clear that everything being said wasn't entirely true. "I don't know what's up with him Jordan. But... now's not the time, argue with him later but people are going to die if we stand around." He turned to look around pointing towards thee bathroom sign down the hall. "This way. I'll lead," with that he started to walk away heading towards the bathroomsRoland Stats: HP: 40/50 DMG: n/a Buff: Not rolled for yet. Charges 1/3 Spitter: Squish splat kaboom

Noah had missed the comment about loser brigade somewhere in between the disgusting barfing zombie and Al setting himself on fire, which was probably a good thing. He dodged the hail of ceiling tile, which he wasn't taking personally, because collateral damage was a thing anyway and if it wasn't you getting accidentally broken you could worry about it later, most of the time.
He swung Laz into the tangle of the creature's limbs, and got a faceful of horrifying, gooey, burning stuff in retaliation; he swiped frantically at his his face with his sleeve as he stumbled back, utterly grateful that he hadn't pulled the makeshift scarf mask off his mouth and nose after they'd killed the previous zombie. At least there was water nearby. Once this one was down they could wash off the acidy stuff.
