Something odd was happening.
From her vantage point beneath the buffet table, Lucasta could see quite a few people losing consciousness. Over the distance between herself and the patients, it was difficult to say what the cause was. Fatigue seemed a likely explanation; she didn't understand why these humans insisted upon staying up so late when it was clear it was well passed some of their bedtimes. Surely they weren't all so foolish as to continue their revelries through their fatigue when there were rooms and beds so close by.
The heat could be another factor. It did feel a bit warm in here, though Lucasta was sure that had something to do with her being under a table that held an array of hot food. There was little air circulation to be had beneath the tablecloth. If she wouldn't risk exposure, it'd be nice to stick her face out for a breath of fresh air.
The blue mask she'd picked up at the beginning of the evening sat upon the floor beside her. She nudged it experimentally, but nothing happened. She'd not bothered putting it on. And action like that was somewhat difficult without opposable thumbs.
Something about the mask seemed strange to her, yet she couldn't determine quite what it was. Perhaps it was that all those collapsing at any given time seemed to be wearing the same color mask?
Suspicious, indeed.
For now she'd wait and watch, and if it happened again maybe she'd slink out and get a closer look.

To be completely honest, Paris felt rather tired.
However, this was not an uncommon occurrence when it got passed nine in the evening. She kept her life under a strict schedule. When dance didn't necessitate going to bed at a later hour, nine o'clock was about as late as she could make it before she began feeling too out of sorts to force herself to stay awake any longer.
Tonight was different though. It was New Year's Eve, and she was determined to be awake by the end of it. She wanted her New Year's kiss, trite as such a thing seemed. Certainly what she was doing when the clock struck midnight and the new year began would have absolutely no bearing on how she spent the remainder of the year. She would choose how to spend 2015.
Still, any excuse to kiss for a prolonged period of time was a good excuse to Paris.
“You look tired,” she observed, staring into Chris's heavy eyes as they danced.
They'd given up on a faster pace some time ago. Now they simply swayed together, though the music called for something far more upbeat. Paris didn't mind. It gave her a reason to lean close without Chris complaining about her behaving indecently.
Paris leaned up to claim a lazy kiss and smiled against Chris's lips. “We can go get ourselves a room,” she mumbled loudly enough for him to hear her over the music.
It was not the first time she'd suggested it that evening. It likely wouldn't be the last.White MaskGuine Just so you have something to respond to that isn't a million pages back! <3

There was something up out there with some of the people - something strange - because Liryn was pretty sure that it wasn't normal for people to keep toppling over.
It was enough to distract him from the feathers and shinies on the mask that he'd found, enough to also distract him from the piece of sausage that he'd been snacking on and that was a biggie because the sausage was still warm and he was hungry because he was having to sneak food where he could.
He peeked out from under the table where he'd been hiding - falling down people were much more curious though.
He felt a bit tired, but not so tired that he wanted to nap-nap - no it was more a tired in that maybe he'd indulged a bit too much on some of the bits and pieces he'd found - although it was kind of weird since there hadn't been that many bits to find and it wasn't as if he could just jump on the table and indulge since the pesky hotel people might not understand that cats had needs too.
Ducking back until he was back and fully under the table, Liryn went back for the mask that he'd found - it was pretty and he wanted to keep it - although he also made sure to have a better look round the room because the falling down people were a puzzle.
For now he'd watch and maybe finish up on that sausage, but next time someone fell down then perhaps he'd try and see if he could follow to see where they went.

Another half an hour has passed and the ball is becoming less fun by the minute for those wearing energy draining masks. You are very tired and you have no idea what is wrong with you. Did someone spike the drinks? Maybe you should try to get out of there? This night is becoming far too much for you and ringing in the new year is becoming less and less important by the minute. Time to just call it a night, you just have to make it to the door and down to the lobby. The journey looks so daunting and you aren’t going to make it. One step, two steps and down you go, much like many other party goers tonight. Maybe you will feel better once a nurse looks at you.
Those of you who already passed out are still feeling tired, but without the draining influence of the masks its becoming more apparent something isn’t right here. People keep passing out and you still have a feeling that your mask was replaced even if you can’t confirm it. Maybe you should investigate ...
Negaversers, its getting harder to keep the masses calm, it might be better to stop trying. Time to play the worried patrons. You have a feeling you know exactly where this will be heading. Never a dull evening.
Everyone with a Red or Purple mask has fainted. You are gathered up and moved to the nurses stations where your mask is removed and replaced. When you awaken you are informed you fainting spell was caused by alcohol consumption if you were drinking, or overheating if you were not. You are not so sure you believe it and judging by all the others around you, you're right not to.
If you are a guardian cat you have not been returned to the ball, but have been mysteriously ejected from the event, brrrr its cold outside. Before you awake you swear you hear someone mutter who keeps letting them in. Maybe you should sneak back in...
If you are transcended, because of the relative ease of draining you who are so full of energy, you may choose to pass out now.
*If you have passed out this round, you no longer possess an energy draining mask and cannot pass out again. You are tired, but you will not lose anymore energy. Anyone joining in after this point who rolls this color IS being drained and can still pass out!*

One drink became two, two drinks became three, became four became five became six.
Or at least Marissa was going to assume she'd drank that much. She sure as hell felt woozy enough, even if she couldn't remember partying quite that hard. She felt terrible, not simply due to the effects of the drinks, but because she'd allowed this to happen in the first place. Talk about self control. She was awful. And here she was, almost forty years old, unable to control herself when offered continuous glasses of free champagne.
But she couldn't help it. It was free. She wasn't the type to look a gift horse in the mouth. It was, after all, too good of an opportunity to pass up.
Passing out, though? Passing out seemed likely.
One minute Marissa way swaying in a chair at one of the tables scattered about, and the next her head came down onto said table with a loud thunk.
Ow. ********. The hell?
She came to elsewhere, hovered over by an unfamiliar face that looked something like a nurse. For a moment Marissa thought she'd been brought to a hospital, but a quick look around showed that that wasn't the case. She was still at the hotel, still in the midst of a party, and she wasn't the only one who'd passed out. Come to think of it, she'd noticed people being carried off every half hour or so.
And wasn't that strange? Why hadn't any of them bee brought to the hospital? There should be ambulances lined up and down the street with the rate at which people were going down. Yet, nothing of the sort seemed to be happening. Once Marissa was able to sit up on her own, she was given another mask (and she was sure it wasn't the one she'd had all evening, for it was cold against her face whereas the one she'd had before had been warmed by her body heat) and sent on her way.
“Too much to drink,” someone mumbled to her.
Marissa called bullshit. She felt tired and worn out, not drunk, and certainly not hungover. She had plenty of experience with what that felt like, and this wasn't it.

"I dunno, I've never been to a party for New Years before," Andrew said with partially garbled words as he stuffed a piggish amount of cookies in his mouth at rapid speeds.
He only slowed to stick something in the fountain, hunched and still and careful as he watched chocolate engulf something with bulging eyes.
"Me and my brother usually sit on the roof and watch fireworks at midnight and sometimes mom has sparkling cider. But I can't this year," He said, standing upright and furrowing his brow with a small little frown as he looked down at his chocolate covered creation and thought about why, which was still a little bit of a mystery to him. Lydia had just said that it was too dangerous to go back to them, but his parents had to have been looking for him right? Did his brother miss him?
Andrew remained unaware of the fact his brother had grown up and attended university out of state, that his father was dead, and his mother was currently wasting away in a Destiny City hospital ward. He had no idea about any suffering, only that they were probably all still living in the little house he remembered fretting over him and thinking he ran away and pictured them there now while his brain subconsciously told him he was simply envisioning them from afar with no concept about how inaccurate their perceived safety was to reality.
And still, the thought of their absence unsettled him.
"U-um... What do you usually do?"
He was distracted from his own question when he looked up and noticed people being taken to nurses stations after fainting, and it didn't ease his already present anxiety. "Are people getting sick?"
If there was a round of food poisoning going around, based on the amount of desserts he's already eaten, he was so ******** class="quote">NovaCracker
"Stroud..." Elle could vaguely remember the name, associated with the then now General who had been a false keeper when Galena was playing hostage in the Das Gift operation. However the woman herself had been a mystery of whom Elle had always known to exist and kept at a distance, absorbing the information from their mutual friend in Ariel.
She made a slight bow of her head, not thinking too much about the lack of recognition.
"Lazarus," She said, her voice having gained a bit more strength from the wispy and almost spoken on impulse way she had addressed his companion. However, strength and volume did not equal tone or enthusiasm. Elle was as monotone as ever.
"Charmed," She said said, still flat and came across as nearly sarcastic. The way she tugged at her shawl for warmth and protection immediately after gave way to a bit of an icy demeanor that was pervasive, even if unintentional. It wasn't that she was uninterested, but Elle's greatest social failing was how to appear at least politely tolerant even when one genuinely was.
"I'd love to join the festivities," She said in response to Lazarus' invitation, and glanced up to Ariel in an attempt to display the interest her robotic tone didn't.
She had only managed to spot the drink station once inside, which she had made an attempted beeline for. She was aware she had botched introductions, and knew it was because she couldn't seem to get past her mental retreat into blatantly going through hollow motions in her nervousness. Wine would help.
If only people were passing out left and right and the rushing around of the crowds impeded her direct path to salvation.

Owen was tired, but really there wasn't anything odd about that - it was starting to get late, and he'd never before managed to make it all the way to midnight on New Years' Eve. He had come close last year, but had dozed off at about ten 'til eleven and ended up sleeping right through the turnover. When the girl in the orange mask slumped over, though - the girl that seemed somehow familiar, if only he could place that pink hair - and his one-time bully seemed to be panicking, he wondered if maybe his assumption had been off, somehow. "It'll be okay," he reassured the older boy, though he wasn't sure how much he believed his own words. "But maybe we should take a look around?" He yawned again, and made a show of looking around at everyone in the ballroom. When a few more people seemed to tip over, he frowned - that looked kind of suspicious... Turning back to Daniel, he grabbed the other boys' hand and squeezed it. "It'll be... it'll be okay. Promise," he tried to assure him, tugging him in the direction of one of the video games. "Come on, y-you can, um... see who is the better racer?" He didn't pause to see if Daniel was paying attention, but when a wave of wooziness struck him, he had to stop. Shaking his head to clear it, he turned back to Daniel and yawned. "Um," he began, finding it harder to think than it really should have been, "Um.... I feel.... funny..." He didn't remember hitting the ground. Owen Courcel - RED mask, Ballroom 2/Medical

Emily nodded, smiling a bit at the thought as she looked over, shrugging. "Well, mostly everyone does their own thing. I probably would've ended up in my room online if you hadn't asked me here, and no, I'm glad you did. My house is loud." Three adultys and lord knew how many teens and children since her aunt and uncle didn't understand the concept of Protection, she assumed, and she blinked as more people seemed to faint. Odd. Spiked punch maybe? She glanced towards the punch bowl carefully and considered if it was worth trying to see how much alcohol was in the liquid with a thoughtful look, before nibbling on another chocolate-drenched marshmallow. No, no. Too many eyecandies. Play it cool Em. Play it cool. ---- Daniel let Owen lead him, and let him speak, nodding and making small noises once and a while of assent. The boy followed readily, sniffling as the lull in energy seemed to just drop in a spike and he blinked once, then twice. Normally, he'd be up late making tamales, not... His train of thought about New Years traditions left him, however, as he collapsed into Owen, crumpling with the boy in a heap of limbs only unconciously clinging. He wasn't Almary, but, he was someone, though he didn't register hotel staff even moving them. Nor nearly biting at being pulled apart. -- Pierrette had, really, mostly been watching, the sleepiness sinking in comfortably like warm bathweater, and she nibbled a macaroon delicately. There were no cupcakes, but the Macaroon was enough and she blinked, watching people occasionally drop. Surely a party was tiring, but something felt... A twinge of exhaustion as her vision blurred and flashed made her pause and Pierrete made a small sound, blinking before she crumbled unconciously in a pile of ruffles and lace and powder blues, and only distantly heard a murmur of someone blaming heat. Whatever. The boy at the nurse's station seemed sweet, and she smiled shyly, if weakly waking up. How sweet. And romantic. What? Quote: Pierrette is open if anyone wants to talk!

Did she eat something bad??
Haven blinked, disoriented, and watched people passing out left and right around her.
It was strange. But as awful as she felt, she didn't have the mental capacity to dwell on it for very long. She felt tired and dizzy, like all of the energy she'd had earlier in the evening was gone. She didn't think it was normal fatigue. Sure, she went to bed at a decent hour every night, but that didn't mean she wasn't capable of staying up later. She stayed up until midnight every New Year's, after all.
For most of the night so far she'd spent her time following Peter around, either bickering with him or sharing comments about some of the other guests they happened to observe. They spent quite a lot of time around the buffet table, and that was where Haven began to really feel the effects of... whatever was happening to her.
“I think I need to... sit down...” was the only thing she was able to say before her eyes rolled back and she collapsed where she stood.Purple Mask

Alistair laughed, practically dragging Lance onto the dance floor. He was definitely getting tired, but that was fine - as long as they got at least a little bit of a dance, he would leave the party happy.
Or, that was how he felt until people started dropping. Sure, the first few were brush-off-able, but the longer he watched, the more people he saw fall...the more patterns began to emerge. He dragged Lance into a more out of the way area, dropping his voice.
"Something is wrong. Something is very, very wrong. People are dropping - and when they drop, they're wearing the same color mask. There are too many for it to be a coincidence. I doubt that many people are overconsuming or overheating."Even sitting down, nothing seemed to be helping how badly Jeanne felt. The longer she waited, the worse it got. She was woozy, even dizzy - and there was no reason she should be. They were away from the crowds, she wasn't drinking, and even if she were she knew her tolerance damned well.
"Somethin'...somethin's wrong...I..." And then, she dropped, sagging onto Luca.
The next thing she knew, she was waking up at a nurse's station, being told she had gotten too hot. That was bullshit and she just..knew it, but she slowly sat up. "My girlfriend. Where is she?"Avacyn nodded absently. "I like that...a beach wedding at sunset," she agreed. It would fit her beautiful punk surfer girlfriend, too, she couldn't deny that. And...well, those would be some lovely wedding photos.
"Water...would be...great..." She said, and then, without much of a warning, Avacyn went limp and dropped. Her eyes closed, and the next thing she knew she was waking up in a nurse's station, which was probably for the best because she still felt terribly dizzy.Alistair - 9 - Black Jeanne - 4 - Yellow Avacyn - 1 - Red

"Umm yeah...that's one way to put it." He said after a moment. He didn't like labels, at least not when labeling things he liked or was. It was so hard and it was like putting himself, or parts of himself, into boxes and then what to do with the things which didn't fit into that box? It was better that if something had to be labeled to use the broadest term possible.
"I doubt people would want to hear my music at a party like this." He stated with a nod of his head, a tongue fiddling with one of his lip piercings. What was with more people dropping in some kind of dead faint? He'd seen it before and now again and it seemed very odd...and wrong. Something had to be up. So many people weren't about to drop to the ground so easily - right? No. He was sure something was up but what could he do? He didn't know anyone but Gwen who was a senshi, he knew other senshi but not civilian identities so he couldn't go searching for others in this party.
"That sounds like a umm...good idea." he stated as his attention was back on the female. "I guess I should head inside." And stop standing out here, it was tiring, and perhaps that would place him where he could help or better figure this mess out? He really was going to crash when he got home though, he was tired and he hadn't even done much, and that gave him a bad feeling.

PoddlyPood (Sorry my response to you was so short. I honestly didn't notice it till after I posted and was checking my quotes in this event so I knew who to tag back. He can have seen her again and followed if you'd like.) When she'd woken up in a nurses station Winterlynn had been planning to go back home, I mean she had passed out! She had, at first, ignored the person sitting right at her side, but after dealing with the nurses and signing some release paper she finally turned to him but didn't say anything as her mind was a whirl of thoughts. Something had to be up and the nurse who had talked to her, had been so nice, said she might have had too much to drink along with the excessive heat in the ballroom. She was right, she'd been sure of it, and so her plan of action was to leave and go home. Finally she managed to speak to the one at her bedside, even as she was getting up. "I'm fine...I think I'm going to head home actually. Thank you for sitting by my side." Even though she didn't know him, and he didn't know her.
Stretching she smiled gently. "I hope we can meet again, but I think I really should be going." The words were hurried as she headed for the door that lead out to the hallway and made her way for the exit of the hotel. She had been heading for the exit, so close to it, when someone had stopped her and gotten her talking. before she knew it she was being steered back into the first floor ballroom where she rejoined the crowds of people.
Well, she might as well stay and try and enjoy herself and stay awake; or so she figured. But as the night wore on other people dropped and fainted and she'd heard that she hadn't been the only one to faint when she had. What was going on? This seemed like something...but it couldn't be - right? This was a big thing and really public in a way. No, it had to be, she was sure of it. And so as people finally started to realize something was terribly wrong and panic she joined in on trying to leave but not to leave the hotel. She had to find somewhere to go and transform when the time was right. She would wait it out till they revealed themselves. She didn't want to show up in the middle of a bunch of panicked people, not when knights just like senshi and agents of chaos were considered terrorists. It would bring about more chaos.
Getting away from the crowds of people Winterlynn took off down a hall, cursing her outfit the whole way, before throwing open the ladies bathroom door and getting inside. Pressing her back to the door, to prevent others from joining her. She didn't need civilians in here or people in a panic who would bring attention to the bathroom - unwanted attention.

Magiore Carpenter / Lieutenant Aurostibite - blue mask
He gave the young man a slight smile, trying to relax. Or at least seem to be. The other was sitting up now at least, and seemed marginally better than some of the others that were currently visible around the room; though by the looks of it, there wasn't much else to be done.
Magiore took a few steps over to the table, reached out and picked up one of the water pitchers. He plucked a plastic cup from the stack, poured it about half full, and then held it out towards the young man.
"A gas leak would be problematic," he said, frowning as his expression shifted to a more worried one. His mind, however, was perfectly clear, and he had the sneaking suspicion that he understood what was occurring. "I think I overheard someone say that they were going to send someone to go check the facilities in the other room; but it could also just be a case of heat exhaustion," Magiore added, shifting from one foot to the other. He tugged on a lock of his hair, biting his lower lip in apparent thought.
"There are a lot of people in this room, that's a little disconcerting," he said, in a slightly more anxious tone of voice. "You should drink your water, it'll help you feel better." Tolliver St. James - black mask
Tolliver managed to relax a little, in spite of the awkward first meeting. He shifted from his bad leg to his good and said, "That's a relief, I thought I might have smacked into you, or something, and that would have been rather embarr..."
But he trailed off, looking taken aback. The young man was swaying, tugging at the collar of his shirt, and in spite of Tolliver himself not particularly feeling good at the moment, he reached out and awkwardly tapped his shoulder in a flustered sort of way.
"Hey, are you - " he started to say, but before he could finish his sentence, the young man had tilted backwards, and then he'd collapsed, and Tolliver was neither strong enough, nor fast enough to prevent him from smacking into the table. Tolliver made a sound of shock, stepping forward and slightly awkwardly getting to his knees, touching the young man's arm.
"Hey - are you okay? Nurse!"

Matthew allowed the game to be snatched out of his hand and used the time setting it up to grab himself a chair, turning it around so he could straddle it backwards and rest his forearms on the back. ******** sitting on the floor... He wasn't five.
"Benji, huh?" He chuckled as he leaned over to snag a controller, letting it hand loosely between long fingers. "My name's Matthew. You can call me Ace, though, only my family calls me Matthew..."
Well... Except for those like Bischofite who seemed to delighted in calling him Matty, to his eternal annoyance.
"You talk pretty big s**t, but we'll see who comes out on top." He chuckled as he adjusted his jacket and settled in at the title screen. The sixteen year old loved this game... He was gonna kick this dude's a** so hard, even without using any cheatcodes.
