Maxillo comes from a huge family of 'Daevas, and he was raised by and around all of them, but despite being surrounded by other foxes all his life, Maxillo has always felt very alone. He keeps this buried pretty deep internally, because he doesn't know how to explain exactly what he's feeling, or why he feels so disconnected from other foxes. Maxillo never wanted to worry his dads about it, or hurt his brother's feelings by coming off as callous. Externally, he pretends everything is fine; he can joke around or rough house with his brother, or have deep conversations with his dads when those situations are initiated by other foxes. But inside there's some kind of emptiness that he can't seem to fill. He's not sure why, and he kind of hates himself for it. He hates that he loves his family not because he feels that love, but because he knows that he should, that they're good to him. He fights against it as hard as he can by actively choosing not to distance himself from his family and others that care about him. But sometimes that's hard, and he does just need to get away for a while. Maxillo will occasionally make up some excuse about wanting to explore some new area or other and just fly off for a few weeks at a time to get away, but he's noticed that actually being on his own doesn't fill that emptiness either. So he returns home, puts on a good act, and tells stories of some of his adventures.
Lace has kind of been through a lot, right? So I totally understand if she doesn't need any of that drama in her life
This is definitely one of those situations where like... none of that story existed before I started typing.

She’s been through a lot, yes! She was raised by Belial, which was horrifically abusive. She found someone who acted as her Prince Charming and reduced her, but they eventually left her and got with someone else. She’s never recovered from that.
She was, back at her peak, an affectionate and very timid vixen who was slowly learning love, how to accept love, and eager to give it. At her current she is traumatized and dissociative at best, rarely snapping back to reality when her adoptive son visits or when something reminds her of a memory she misses

Would that backstory be too heavy for Maxillo?

I don't think it's too heavy for him, no. I think that Maxillo would see something of himself in her, a cautionary tale of what might happen if he gave in to his own feelings of emptiness and pushed everyone away. He's definitely wonder what got her to that point, what makes a fox just give up like that. And I think upon hearing about her past, he would be horrified by what she's been through. I think he'd want to help her because he knows what it's like to fight against that urge to disconnect from others, but it'd also make him question himself. I think empathizing with Lace and helping her, if she's open to it, would help Maxillo stop feeling the way he feels over time.

How would they meet? Lace seems to be p stationary atm. She’s gone back into her adoptive dads care and generally lingers in his territory
Does he travel?
DemonBoyWonderr — 10/10/2021
Yeah, Maxillo explores random places all the time when he feels like getting away and being alone, so it definitely could have been at one of those times.
I don't know what kind of territory they live on, but he normally goes to like exotic or unique landscapes

Maybe Lace was sent to chase Max off in an area Belial wanted access to?
