"Hm, well all the pages are numbered, so you'll be able to figure out the order," she said waving her hand as if it was an easy task. She flipped through his notebook and was impressed. "Oh manster, you should give me some handwriting lessons. This looks like typewriter stuff compared to my scribbles!"
She dropped heavy textbooks upon an empty common room table and pulled up a chair. She cracked her knuckles loudly and rolled up her sleeves.
Just as she was going to copy down the notes, a vampire ghoul burst into tears and ran away from the ghost boy she'd been talking to, and out the common room.
"Oh dear.. Another heartbroken boo?" Meme pondered aloud. "I wonder why monsters get so invested in this dance date stuff?"

So the random scraps were numbered, well at least there was that. He set the notes down and couldn't help but feel a stab of pride at her remark about his penmanship.
"Thank you." He too looked up at the crying ghoul and frowned. "I cannot say, but the entire student body seem to have become preoccupied with the matter. "

"So, how many ghouls and boos are throwing themselves at your feet to go as your date?" Meme winked cheekily. "Goossip around the halls is everymonster wants a date weeks in advance, but I don't understand! I just wanna wear a nice suit and some bling and boogie!" By this point her train of thought had derailed and she began doodling designs for a balloon covered tuxedo in her new notebook.
The notion of dating had always perplexed her, but she often wondered if it was her fickle nature that made a serious commitment at such a young age seem unappealing.
She let out a dramatic and sarcastic sigh. "Oh Ronan, my sweet dear selkie, when will I feel true loves first bite?" She asked dryly and thought a design for balloon shoes was a great idea.

"uh... " Her first question was a little out of the left field. "Only Doriana has asked me." Was she teasing him or what? He was a little baffled and his confusion only deepened at her final remark. He didn't quite catch her sarcastic tone.
"I... could not say. " He frowned. "I've never really dated anyone before. Not certain what to expect."

"I'm joking!" She clarified, and smiled despite feeling somewhat guilty. Her teasing and jokes were sometimes misconstrued as meanness, so she had to learn when to dial it back. "Don't look so confused, you'll get the hang of rhetorical questions soon." Poor Ronan, she thought, wondering how much of all this was new and confusing to him.
"So, Dori is your date? That's cute! Makes sense too." She nodded thoughtfully. "She always seems so busy doing.. Stuff! You guys have a lot in common?"

"That's just it, she never seems to DO anything. Goes on and on about not having any time, but what does she do with it?"
Aside from apparently attempt to flirt with him, go figure. He shook his head.
"It's infuriating. But I figure I may as well go with her, I mean, she's not THAT bad."
He actually smiled sheepishly at that.
"That was rude wasn't it?" He was slowly learning. He shrugged again.
"I just hope her parents don't find out. "

Melody was at a loss for words; she had wanted to go to the tombcoming dance with Roswell as well, but she never knew how to bring up the topic.
And now Roswell was asking her in the nicest way possible, his face giving off the shade of purple she adored.
How could she deny a offer like this?
Her hands were shaky as she smiled, her face giving a soft blush, "Roswell, I'd love to."

She brought Melody in for a hug then spun her around!
"C'mon let go get some food to celebrate."

Meme grimaced, "Uhm, yeah.. A little bit. Generally, it's best not to talk about people's.. poorer qualities. It's nicer to talk about the positive things! Like, she's an aspiring designer, yes?" Meme fidgeted in her seat and copied out more notes.
"What do you mean? Her parents over protective, or will they try and set you up for real?" She asked curiously.

"I.. don't know actually."
He frowned, Doriana didn't really talk much about herself. In fact, he realised he didn't really know anything much about her. Positive traits, he made a mental note to try to discover if Doriana had any.
"Her parents. "
He sighed, it was something he'd have to get used to explaining to other monsters.
"Selkie are... quite insular monsters. They don't much associate with other sea monsters, let alone land dwellers."
He shook his head.
"They particularly don't trust normies and my father... he's a normie."
He lowered his head.
"Full blooded Selkie look down their noses at half breeds. We're.. unclean and tainted and... the list goes on. "
Idly flicking through his hextbook he continued. "From what I understand, Doriana's parents are traditional. If they knew she was talking to me, let alone going to a dance with me... " He trailed off.
"She instists they'll never find out and I hope she's right. I don't want to get her into deep water with her family."

"Well this dance will give you ample opportunity to find out!" Meme laughed.
The clown monsters eyebrows raised even higher than usual.
"Wow! That's.. extreme. I mean-" She couldn't quite find the right words and was worried about insulting him. "It's not the dark ages, and normies are hardly chasing us down with pitchforks and torches any more!" She added cautiously "Looking down on their own kind? That's not tradition, that's just cruel. But I know a lot of monsters like to stay within their customs.."
She wondered how some monsters could be so stuck in their ways and close minded, but she avoided pressing the subject further. It wasn't funny dragging up family problems and upsetting friends.

"Sadly it doesn't seem to be uncommon. Monsters still fear normies, and with guys like Farnum pullings like he did... it doens't help popular opinnion now does it?"
He sighed.
"Still, we should... work on this." He indicated the hextbooks and notes, thankful for the distraction.
"I did not imagine you as particularly studious. Evidently I was wrong."
He'd been skimming through her notes, they were messy as anything but contained some interesting insights.
"you just need a better filing system."

"Yeah, you're right.." She would forever curse that lanky human for tarnishing the name of the circus, and potentially ruining the hard work that had been put into normie-monster relations.
"Oh, thanks! I've always been taught that if you want to be good at something, you have to put lots of effort into it." She smiled with pride "I don't always take stuff seriously, but I don't want to fail all my classes and spend the rest of my life twisting balloons in the maul."
She shuddered at the thought of spending the rest of her life surrounding by little monsters with greedy grabby handy and grubby faces.
"Blech! Filing sounds boring! What do you suggest?"

"What DO you want to do with your life?"
He had to admit, he'd sort of assumed she liked the whole balloon thing.
"Well... " He frowned a little as he thumbed through the papers. "You could write things into the book instead of glueing scraps in?" He studied the pages critically.
"The numbering is a good start though."
Which came in immediately helpful as he accidently dropped a few of the loose papers and scrambled to pick them up and reorder them.
