She paused, still as if someone had stabbed her in the back, which technically happened.

"Kai, joined the circus? Without notifying me?" she asked in a whisper.

Did Demona know? Did his father know? How many people knew before her? And why didn't he tell her?

RRRRRRING!

The bell to go to first period rang out. Draconia grimaced; she really wanted to get more information from Hellene about what she'd seen in the circus. But Drama class could not be denied.

One other thing nagged Draconia in the back of her head....Oh! Tonight was the night she was supposed to start this screamester's Fear Tutoring. She was going to be assisting Roswell Grey again with his reading and writing. Draconia loved helping out Roswell, he was a very attentive student even if he didn't necessarily understand everything the first...second...or third time around.

Draconia shot Roswell a quick text before dashing off to class.

Would it be all right to do tutoring at the Looking Glass tonight?

Jewels squeaked in surprise as the bell rang out, checking the time. "Oh geodes... I best be off. " She looked back to her new bestest goo buddy. "Thank you again! I'll pay you back I swear!" she bundled up the glitter and scurried off to first period art.

"No time for chit chat! I need to be on my way to first period!"

She packed her things and, well, began to start walking to her first class with Ronan...

"But I don't want to take Drama!"

Shad kicked and whined as he was ushered toward the door to Drama Class by none other than Mister Where.

"I understand how you feel, Shad." The teacher reasoned. "But your father personally asked that you be assigned this class to help with your, er, issues."

"Issues? What issues!? I don't have issues! I'm. Just. Fine!"

"Of course you are." Mister Where humored the boo as they arrived at the door and the teacher reached for the knob. "And here we are."

He opened the door and escorted the unwilling Shad into the classroom, shutting it behind him. All the students present turned and looked...

Shad turned to bolt but forgot the door was closed and WHAM! Shad fell back to the floor and Mister Where just sighed.

As the two students were rushed to class, suddenly, an unusual aroma filled the air. It was wafting through one of the open windows in the Coffin Corridor, something so thick and oily that it was almost visible to the naked eye.

"Ewww, what is that stink?" A Werewolf girl made a face as she walked by the window and got a full faceful blast. "It smells like....fish....mixed with detergent...and burnt wood!" She covered her mouth and made a run for the bathroom.

"Ugh, did something die out there?" Gory Fangtell nearly shrieked as a fall breeze smacked her in the face with the smell. "Someone check and see if all the water monster kids are accounted for!" Gory pulled her fashionable neck scarf over her mouth and nose and strolled away as fast as she could.

The thick, heavy, fishy smell looped into the coffin corridor, grossing out nearly every monster that had a nose...until it reached the noses of Ronan and Doriana. To both of them, it was a smell that was instantly recognizable. It was a smell of weeks-old fish, salted till it could be salted no more, soaked in lye until it turned into jelly, and dumped in cold water full of ash.

It was the smell of the most expertly prepared, delicious lutefisk the two had ever smelled. It smelled like home by the hearth fire and Sunday afternoon lunch. It was delicious...and it was beckoning the two of them to come outside and see where that smell was coming from.

Doriana stopped in her tracks. The sweet aroma filled the air, it smelled like Thanksgiving!

"... Goodness! I'm hungry! Let's go find that fish."

They began to walk toward the main exit...
PostPosted: Mon Sep 30, 2013 1:52 pm

"Is that.. Lutefisk?" Ronan inhaled deeply, there was no mistaking that pungent aroma. It reminded him of home, of family. A soft smile crept across his face.
"But... what about..." He didn't want to be late for class but at the same time, his curiosity was peaked. How often did one encounter Lutefisk stateside? And GOOD Lutefisk at that? Quite unconsciously, he found himself following Doriana toward the exit...

The smell may as well have been velvet-gloved hands leading them across the now-empty campus as all of the other student bodies sat down in their classes. The enticing, pungent aroma tickled the selkie taste buds and led them....down across the haunted woods behind the school and near the small mud-hole that kids dismissively called the Monster High Swamp. What should have smelled like bat guano and rotten compost instead smelled like the most uhh-mazing Lutefisk feast in all of hiss-tory.

"Oh! Yah, sure, you betcha! Look at what we have here, dont'chaknow!" Almost impossibly, it seemed that a small farmer's market-sized stall had been set up, showing off some wares that had the two selkies watering at the mouths. A tall male selkie turned around from a large tray filled with ice and pieces of lutefisk laid out on it. "I think that maybe we have a couple of customers! Leeeena!"

"Oh yah, sure, you're right, Ole!" A very rotuned selkie lady grinned at the two selkies. "I'm Lena GudbrandsdalslĂ„gen and this is Ole NumedalslĂ„gen, and we've just opened up our brand new, exclusive lutefisk stand, 'LʉːtəfÉȘskerindenshlagendorff ©!'"

"Tell me," Ole leaned across the table, which had on it Lutefisk products of all types. "Do you like Lutefisk? Sure, can we interest you in Lutefisk soap? Or Lutefisk lotion? Lutefisk-themed kitchen utensils! Lutefisk shampoo and conditioner! How about Lutefisk-themed t-shirt? It says 'I went to LʉːtəfÉȘskerindenshlagendorff © and all I got was this lousy T-shirt!' Hah! So funny, you betcha!" He turned the t-shirt around four times to show the entire phrase.

"In fact!" Lena looked left and then right, as if to make sure no one else heard what she was about to say as she leaned in reaaaaaallly close to Ronan and Doriana... "If you don't tell anyone that we're playing favorites, we'll give you a free sample! Would you like that?"
PostPosted: Mon Sep 30, 2013 2:18 pm

Ronan just looked a bit overwhelmed, but he couldn't resist a free sample. "Tusen takk..." He began. "I mean... Thank you." The couple had a comforting familiarity about them, aided in no small way by that potent aroma. "But... why are you here in the swamp? Surely you would have better luck peddling wares closer to town?" Who wouldn't want delicious lutefisk and ridiculous but amusing themed novelties?
He couldn't resist reaching for the offered samples tray, class and school and responsibilities for the moment forgotten in a haze of nostalgic homesickness.

Doriana bounced in her shoes and nodded eagerly.

"Yes yes yes!!"

She opened her hands eagerly, her stomach growling, for "GudbrandsdalslÄgen" to give her the fish. Once it was placed in her hand, she ate her sample right up.

"Mmm!! That's good! I-"

Her facial expression changed to a non-Doriana like smile. She looked at Ronan eagerly.

"... Eating this fish got me thinking, Ronan. I mean, who has time for SCHOOL? Why don't we go join the circus instead!"
PostPosted: Mon Sep 30, 2013 2:32 pm

The smell of the lutefisk got stronger and stronger until it was almost visible. In fact, it WAS visible, surrounding Ronan and Doriana in a green-grey cloud of jellied soapfish goodness as they reached for the sample platter and couldn't help but stuff themselves greedily like little kid monsters. 'Lena' leaned over to 'Ole.'

"Ugh. Using food to entrap children. If Kindergruber knew I was ripping off her gig, she'd never let me hear the end of it!"

"Quiet, woman!" 'Ole' responded. "It's working better than I'd hoped! We got two for the price of one!"

"Yeah, yeah..." 'Lena' waved him off. "Stealing her bit serves her right for stealing the Home Ick job from me anyways!" She turned back to the kids as they were finishing off the last of the Lutefisk.

"Isn't that delicious, ickle darlings? It's so nice to see some children who appreciate the classic dishes of our homeland, don'tchaknow. Oh yah, but it looks like you've eaten the last of it! You'll have to come back with us to our home to get some more."

The cloud was so thick that it was affecting Ronan and Doriana's vision. Ronan looked at Doriana and it was almost as if she was wearing the traditional 'Bunad' clothing from his homeland. But...that was impossible, wasn't it? He shook his head and tried clear his mind.

Meanwhile, for Doriana, every time she looked at Ronan, it was as if he was shirtless and sparkling, just like that calendar she had next to her bed.

"Oh yah, say you'll come away with us and enjoy more lutefisk, dear children..."

He seemed half dazed, nodding slowly to the couple's suggestion but looking more at Doriana than anything else. "uh... " His mind was as jellied as all that soapfish he'd stuffed down his gullet, but somehow, his stomach growled for more. Ronan blinked a few times, and frowned. What was going on? He felt woozy. "I... don't feel so good.. "
PostPosted: Mon Sep 30, 2013 2:54 pm

"Yes yes! Of course!"

She kept looking over at Ronan with a confused look... It seemed one minute he was himself, another he was completely different... Interesting. She rubbed her eyes, but it didn't go away.

"Hexcellent!" Lena crooned. "Just climb into this lovely cage...er, transport, and we'll be on our way! Oh, but first-"

Lena held up a hand and the cloud of lutefisky goodness suddenly dispelled itself, revealing Lena and Ole for their true forms: Hagetha Mistie and Bartleby Farnum! The sky seemed to grow dark and foreboding behind them as all of the lutefisk goodies vanished, leaving only a cage on wheels behind them.

"By Mezmer's mind and mental powers
your will is mine for 24 hours!
You will leave your friends and to them declare
'Farewell, I belong to Cirque Sinistaire!"

The haze was gone, but a new one seemed to develop over the minds of Ronan and Doriana, as they happily climbed into the cage.

"Now, let's get back to the circus. It's almost time for the rest of those brats to get their daily dose of hex."

And with that, the two newest recruits began their trek to Cirque Sinistaire.
