Prompt Number: #2
Your response:
After witnessing yet another hushed argument between his parents, Saxon decided that it was time to perhaps find someplace quiet to reflect on what he'd overheard. Avoiding his sisters Des and Claudette took some effort but eventually the young colt had shaken off the determination of his siblings and managed to stumble across a rather secluded patch of forest. The darkened recesses called to him as easily as a siren's call would to a sailor. Taking cautious steps the colt made his way into the darkened patch and breathed a sigh of relief.

Knowing that he was alone the colt lashed out at a hollow log as he vented out his frustration. His voice echoed in the space around him. "Why do they always have to argue? Can't they see it is tearing the family apart? I have seen Des soak up daddy's attention and momma seems at ease with Claudette. Where do I fit in?"

Saxon gave the log a final harsh kick with his back hooves before collapsing to the ground. A sob was torn from his small frame as he gave into the confusion and turmoil within his young mind. The realization came that maybe he had to do something to earn at least the attention from one of his parents, whether it be good or bad. With that Saxon rose to his hooves and began his trek towards home. He had not gone far in his journey when a loud squeal reached his ears. Saxon swung his head from left to right before dashing towards the noise as it sounded again. Once more the cry reached him before being strangled silent. Saxon froze. A quieter, more pitiful noise rose from the land before him as a large shape seemingly flew towards him. Saxon closed his eyes and trembled in fright. A moment passed and then another. Saxon peeked open one eye and realized that there were no shadows around him. Had it just all been a figment of his imagination? No, a quiet whimper, weaker sounding than before reached his ears again. Saxon cocked his head to the side before tracing the sound to its origin.

In a odd clearing a shape thrashed around. Saxon approached with caution and paused to observe the scene. The familiar scent of blood hit his nostrils and the colt found himself drawn closer. Whatever he'd discovered was obviously injured and under extreme duress. The cries had tapered off as if the animal realized that no help was coming for it. Saxon peered into the deep onyx eyes of a young creature that he'd never seen before. It lay bleeding from numerous slashes. As Saxon initiated eye contact the creature lay still except for a side that moved up and down too rapidly to be healthy. Saxon was frozen with indecision. He was no skilled healer and if he ran back to inform his parents it would start another argument. Saxon froze as an uneasy silence drifted over his mind. He knew what needed to be done. With infinite slowness he inched closer to the suffering creature. This needed to be done. Saxon made the mistake of looking again into the eyes of the creature and saw a strange mixture of trust and hope reflected back at him. Saxon hesitated before closing his eyes. "I must do this ... I'm sorry."

With all hesitation gone Saxon pressed his hoof down on the creature's neck. The vibrations from the beast's struggles caused a wave of caustic bile to rise from his stomach before Saxon swallowed it back down. He had to see this through. What seemed like an eternity passed before Saxon felt no more resistance under his hoof. He shook out the numb feeling and peered down at the lifeless corpse. Although the creature's heart beat no longer, blood still oozed sluggishly from the wounds. Saxon watched the darkening liquid before pushing his muzzle deliberately into the creature's side. The scent of the blood overwhelmed his senses. Saxon inhaled deeply trying to understand why his mother needed such a substance. The taste of the congealing liquid hit his tongue. Was there a chance he could connect with her if he understood this?

As daylight continued to recede ... Saxon remained locked in place by morbid curiosity. The world around him shrank to just three of his five senses. Taste, touch and smell. He'd stay here until he unlocked the mystery.

Basket Name: Zorion Sinclair
Temper: Paranoid
Personality:
At first glance, Zorion is a rather quiet fellow. He tries not to speak much and avoids large groups if he can help it. He cares deeply for his family and always aims to please.

While he shares his mother's bloodlust, he also has a taste for flesh which he constantly battles against. Zorion respects and understands his parents' beliefs of 'do not kill' and 'live and let live'. While his hunger for flesh grows stronger, he is constantly fighting against it and refuses to give in easily.

Because of his craving for flesh, Zorion has become paranoid. He is terrified that he will kill something and that his family will never forgive him for it. Sure they might let him slip up once or twice, but he knows that his lust for flesh won't go away. Instead, he forces the craving down and does his best not to give in. His biggest fear is that the Kalona part of him will take over.

His paranoia extends beyond his cravings. Zorion always feels as if he is being watched. Constantly he will look over his shoulder in fear that he is being followed. Why anyone would be interested in him is unclear, yet the feeling is still there. Most of the time he's too afraid to say the wrong thing and instead prefers to stay silent.

Other: Thank you so much for Hosting this contest! I've always admired the Sinclair family and I love having the opportunity to try for a basket.

Plot Ideas
Username: CheshireKttty
Plot Ideas:

1. I would like for Zorion to kill a creature at some point as a foal when his hunger for flesh takes over. During this stage it would be something small such as a rabbit yet it will still effect him deeply. Upset over the incident and terrified to get in trouble, I could see him perhaps trying to hide what he has done but still being found out in the end?

2. After his first kill, Zorion would awaken a 'voice' inside of his head. This 'Voice' would be the 'Kalona' blood in him that threatens to take over. The voice would encourage him to kill for flesh more and he will constantly be battling against it.

3. Somewhere down the line I would like for Zorion to make another kill. However, this time it would be a much larger kill. Perhaps an usdia or something along those lines. At this point I think something inside of him would snap, turning his darker side on allowing his Kalona blood more freedom. The 'voice in his head' would become dominant for a short period of time. Eventually this might be fixed by a family member helping him gain control.

-Just some general rough plots for now. Of course they can be tweaked to better fit the family and current plots. I also have a few more vague ideas swimming around my head as well.

Most of the family on your mother's side is messed up in one way or another, many are bloodthirsty and prone to various levels of violence involving their array of weaponry, most are somewhat twisted. Your mother has told you about your family and is now taking you to meet her mother, your grandmother, Jessamine, for the first time. How do you react? Can you relate to your families eccentricities, can you accept them? Are you afraid? Feel free to involve Belle in this response, just try to stay true to her personality.

Your response:
Zorion stood nervously as he waited for his mother to leave. She had told him that he would meet his grandmother today. The colt had heard about the rest of his family, some he had been warned about, others had simply been mentioned. Would they figure him out for what he truly was? Could one monster spot another just as easily as they could spot prey? Questions raced around his mind faster than he could comprehend them.

What will you do if they spot you for what you truly are? The voice whispered to him, taunting him. What if they reject you? What if they abandon you? What will you do then? Zorion tried to shut it out, to push it back as he always had, yet it was becoming harder to do. He could feel the voice chuckle at his feeble attempts and he became frustrated. Nervously, he looked about him to make sure no one was in ear shot.

"You know, maybe I hope they spot me for what I am." He told the voice. "Maybe one of them will know how to get rid of you." Zorion tried to sound tough as he said the words, but it was hard to be something that you weren't, especially when the one you were trying to fool was essentially yourself. You would like that wouldn't you? More chuckling from the voice. Tell them then. Go on! Tell them what you truly are! Tell them how much of a monster we are. How much we crave flesh. They might help you, or they might throw you out.

Zorion took a deep breath and focused on the voice once more. This time he pictured building a wall to block it out. The mental image usually served to help strengthen his command. While it didn't work for long, it did help provide some relief. As the voice faded from his mind he could still hear it cackling. The voice had been correct, even if he hated to admit it. He didn't dare tell anyone about it or his craving for flesh. Instead he would simply have to find a way to deal with it on his own.

You have wandered away or gotten separated from the rest of your family and come across a small injured or trapped animal. What is your reaction? Do you help it? Do you put it out of its misery? Has your family life and relationships influenced this decision?

Your response:
He wasn't sure how it had happened, only that it had. One minute his mother and sisters had been there and the next they hadn't. Perhaps he had strayed too far or maybe he had simply fallen too far behind. Either way, he ought to catch up to them before they began to worry.

Who would worry abouts a monster like us? There it was again, the dark part of him. "They're my family, of course they'll worry. Besides, they don't know I'm a monster." Or at least if they did they hadn't shown it yet. He knew the voice was trying to play at him again, rile him up, yet he refused to give in. Instead, he headed in the direction he had last seen his family headed.

Do you smells that? It asked hungrily. Despite himself, Zorion paused to sniff the air and caught a whiff of blood in the air. The scent was fresh, something recently wounded. Before he knew what he was doing, the colt found himself face to face with a wounded squirrel. It looked badly injured but it wasn't dead, at least not yet. The creature seemed to be conscious but just barely.

We should eats it. The voice demanded of him. Kills it and eats its flesh. Drains it of its blood. Zorion tried to shut the voice out, but it was no use. "It's wounded, I should nurse it back to health." He insisted.

No! We should puts it out of its misery we should. Puts it out of its misery and then eats it. The voice continued on excitedly. We can eats its warm tender flesh and drinks its hot blood until its drained.

No matter how much Zorion tried to ignore the voice, he could not. He could feel his stomach growling and the smell of the blood caused him to salivate. The colt could feel his vision going blurry, the Kalona blood in him taking over. "No!" He tried to fight it, tried to rid himself of the blood lust, but it was already too late. Before he could even try to run he felt his body taken over by the hunger and he tore into the creature, blood running down his muzzle as he tasted its tender flesh.

[[[OOC: Up until now I was hearing the voice in my head as 'gollum' and I finally caved in and let it shine through cause.. WHY NOT?]]]

You have a very big and diverse family on both sides, how are you similar to them, how are you different? What members do you like to spend time with and why? What do you like to do in your spare time? This can be through self reflection, or really any situation that illustrates these similarities or differences, just demonstrate this in whatever situation you feel inspired to write about.

Your response:

Zorion lay awake as dusk faded to daylight. Like his mother, the colt had taken to being awake during the evening hours and avoiding the daylight. While he wasn't as sensitive to the daylight as his mother was, he did prefer her company over his fathers. Not that he didn't love his father, but his mother did understand him better. Plus the darkness hid him better than the light did.

He breathed in the cool morning air as he felt his body grow tired and his mind grow weary. His thoughts trailed to that of his Uncle Lucian and his cousin Raphael. Although he had yet to meet them, Zorion had already grown quite fond of the pair. His mother had told him stories of the family and that they ate flesh as well as drinking blood. While he himself had hid his fascination with flesh from his mother, Zorion knew that perhaps his Uncle would understand him. One day, he supposed, he would have to come clean to his mother, but he couldn't stand the thought of disappointing her or his father. Did that make him a coward? Probably, but he figured it was better to be a coward loved by his parents then to be courageous and an outcast.

As sleep settled in, Zorion tried to picture his Uncle and cousin. His mother had described them several times when he had asked, and by now he thought he had a pretty clear picture of the two. She had also mentioned another, Karloff. He was big, she had told him, and he wore pieces of a large cat's pelt. Although he wore the pelt, he wasn't a skinwalker. Yet he did drink blood just as the rest of their family did.

Just as the last bit of shadows fled the sky, Zorion drifted off to sleep. He dreamed of his family then, of meeting his uncle and being accepted for who and what he was. He dreamed of blood and of flesh. And he dreamed of happiness.

[[[OOC: Just a quick note I don't really know the other family members on either side and would prefer to plot out stuff before simply saying he hangs out with so & so, so I stuck more to the family members that I do know to be on the safe side for the time being.]]]

On your father's side of the family, it's traditional to give the children names that will inspire them to greatness. (derivative goes with a Shakespearean naming theme, but you don't have to follow that!) How does your colt feel about his name? What does it mean to him? Will he live up to it? Does he even want to? Give us an introspective piece; we'd like to see how the colt feels about his place in the family and what sort of expectations have been set out for him.

Your response:
Zorion had heard that his father's family had always been given names to inspire them to greatness and so he had asked his mother what his name meant. "Happiness" She had said with a smile, leaving him to think upon this.

Would his greatest achievement in life be to become happy? He supposed there were worse things to aim for. He wasn't sure how great happiness was but he supposed that one day he might understand his parents' reasoning for the name. Happiness. The colt frowned as he thought over the word again. It was a simple goal, and yet not an easy one. He supposed that for some, happiness was easy to achieve, and yet with the dark shadow of his Kalona blood ever lingering, it proved a much more difficult task for him.

He wondered for a moment if his parents knew about the voice and his darkness? It was certainly possible, but not very plausible. Most likely they had simply wanted him to be happy in life no matter what. He rather liked the idea, it would be a bit of a challenge for him, but still possible. Although it didn't put a lot of pressure onto him, he still hoped that he might live up to the name.

Happiness. He thought one last time. I will be happy.

Basket Name: Dorian
Temper: Shadowy
Personality: Dorian has always been a little different than his siblings. Inheriting some of his father's more decidely undesired qualities, he can be judgmental and disaproving if you don't do what he thinks is right. However, unlike his father--his ethics are a bit more loose. Because his standards differ from his father, Dorian finds himself drifting away after he learns that he will never have his father's approval.

From birth, he has seen his mother struggle with her "illness". Dorian has been taught to have a healthy respect for life by feed and release. However, the older he becomes, the more Dorian is sure of his self-control and the more his vanity grows. Vain of his looks and his superior skills at "the rules" his parents have taught him, he begins to believe that he can push the boundaries a little at a time until eventually he is in over his head.
