"You think I know?" the clown replied, shrugging, "I've been convinced for ages that the Bat and I would eventually end each other." Joker spread his arms wide as he said loudly, "Well, the Batman is gone! Guess who's not?"

"He... he could still turn up sometime, Mistah Jay." Harley said as she moved her upper body to the side a bit. Trying to avoid being struck by Joker's arm as he spread them open. "I mean, he was out and about before. Maybe he's gotten caught up in some hero stuff someplace else. Like that New York place or... something. Or maybe the Justice League is out saving the world. They haven't been seen for quite some time either."
It was the only reason she could think for the Bat's absence. He did help with Supes and all those others who haven't been seen in ages. They usually went out and did their super hero stuff outside of Gotham. Not.... for nearly this long, but still. The Bat wouldn't retire, even if there was a young replacement for him.
And... she didn't think the Bat was dead either. He couldn't be. It would have been in the papers, the criminal underworld would have been talking non stop about it, people would have been bragging...
