It seemed that the most boring part of the process Amaya was undertaking was the waiting. Wait, wait, wait. She hadn’t noticed so much when there were people and sky to watch, but in this room she was alone with her thoughts and she didn’t want to take the time to go over to the window. Plus, from the floor it looked a little too tall for her to see out of easily. No, instead all she saw was the blue of the sky with an occasional white wisp of cloud brushing the edge of the window frame. Once more she found herself wishing that she was outside. If she finished her assignments she could go outside to spar maybe. That’s what two of the boys were doing after all. This time there was no twinge of jealousy. Instead, she considered the fact that starting later had allowed her to work with Sakura and meet just one instructor. She had plenty of stuff that she could work on without anyone taking part, which meant that she got to progress at the pace she wanted to instead of waiting or keeping up. The girl wasn’t hindering anyone and they weren’t being held up by her either. Smiling, Amaya allowed herself to lie back with her hands propping her spine up from the floor. Somehow this would turn into the best case scenario for her.
Staring up at the ceiling, Amaya didn’t allow her mind to wander. Instead, she kept focused on what she was looking at. The girl followed the whirls, the knots, the waves in the wood above her head; taking in the intricacy of its natural state. If Amaya could learn not to let herself wander so much, maybe she would have more success over all. Even if that didn’t work at least she would have something to do while she was waiting to recover more energy.

While she was lying there on the floor, Amaya began fiddling with the knots in the rope still binding her wrist. She was relaxed and she wasn’t really focused on it, but she put some chakra into the task anyways. Pausing slightly, the child gave a gentle tug. She had found a loop that was giving a little. The extra pressure on her hands was forcing them into a position that allowed her to get a grip on the correct piece of rope. Lying still in order to keep the pressure on the correct part of her hand, the girl tugged and pulled until she found the end. It was only then that the girl sat up, feeling the rope fall loose from another part of her wrist. A smile evidently lifted the child’s face as she rotated her wrists slightly; enjoying the range of motion. Freedom! Well, not even close, but it felt like it compared to what she had been held in. As she moved her wrists she felt the slight sting of raw skin. She had squirmed a bit too much under the hold of the rope. However, it wasn’t deep enough to draw blood; it was just enough to make the ends of the nerves vulnerable; but it would be healed up enough for her parents not to notice by the time she made it home that evening.
As she sat there upright, the girl began poking and feeling for the next knot that she had to get through. According to her sensei there were another eight of them up the length of her forearms. Sure enough there was one more within reach of her spindly fingertips. Amaya traced it gently, trying to make out where it ducked in and where it looped around and what not. It was difficult to do from feel, but hopefully it would still be of assistance since this was the last one she could do with feel. Then, having forgotten about it momentarily, the child felt that little blanket of exhaustion fall on her shoulders, making sure that she knew that she wouldn’t be able to work through all the knots without taking at least one more lengthy break. The task was exhausting, but Amaya knew it would be worth it once it was all over. After all, she got a bento box when it was all over.

Well, now that she had more than one knot undone, Amaya kept working at the next. She could barely reach the next knot and struggled greatly to get a hold of it. The child would get close to catching a nail in one of the loops just to have it slip away. She didn’t have the strength in her hands to get a good grasp and she didn’t have enough control over her chakra to grab the rope either. It almost seemed futile, but the girl continued to struggle. However, each time she would slip off of the edge, not able to hold on. Once more she let a sigh out, wondering how in the world she could get a hold of the knot. She could try lying on her back again, but if she didn’t do so just right then she would actually press the knot away from her hand. Then there was the matter of pinning her hand in the right position. While holding down your own hand wasn’t conducive to dexterity exercises like this one, it would force her hand into a position that might just reach and since it would be body weight holding it there, it was unlikely that she would slip. None the less, she felt her chakra slip away as she was trying to decide what to do, meaning that her attempt was finished.
Now she was frustrated. Why was this task so much more difficult than the others? Maybe it was just the physical restraint was more difficult that the chakra exhaustion. Either way the child wasn’t making any progress and she was allowing herself to get frustrated. No, she needed to be more like her brothers and just let things happen. Don’t get irritated, just flow with the natural order of things. Eventually she would get a hold of the knot and eventually she would undo it, but she had to be patient and she had to keep trying – though that was the most difficult part of the process. To convince herself to keep trying was the more trying part of the entire task. Why would she keep plucking at something that wasn’t budging and that she couldn’t get a grip of? Maybe if she kept trying though, she would fray the rope and have some loose fibers she could get a hold of a pull.

Sakura decided to doze off. Amaya had already finished with her assignment and their sensei had led her off to who knows where. As long as she was stuck with this assignment, she couldn't do anything else with her lack of chakra, so she decided to fully rest again before trying to finish this up. Or that was her thought until the sensei came back with no sign of Amaya. That had her on full alert now. 'What did he do?' she thought as she narrowed her eyes. But no, he was their sensei. She had to trust him to put his best efforts on the benefit of the students, and she just hoped Amaya was safe.

Well Amaya still wasn't back and she had no way of knowing where she had gone off to. 'She's probably going to the bathroom,' Sakura comforted herself as she glanced continuously at the door. Slightly worried, she kept peeking looks until she finally just stared at the handle, waiting for it to move. The door seemed as still as ever though, and Yuki just had to resign herself with the fact that something was taking her a long time. Oh how she wished Yae san was here... but for now, she would finish her assignment and head over to the bathroom later and search for her, just in case. That just gave her more of a reason to finish her assignment faster.

Sakura spread her hands, and stared at the nails. They had been manicured by a civilian friend, despite her protests that they would soon become chipped from activities. It was a pretty shade of pink, and they were still pristine, thanks to the many layers of the clear protective cover 'It won't chip this way, I swear!'. Although Sakura now lived in the Uchiha compound, she sometimes went back to where she used to live and play with her friends. While she knew that some civilians hated her very guts, some were very understanding and invited her over sometimes. Yesterday was one of those days, and she had received a mani and pedi from her friend's mother. It felt a little heavy, but she liked the sheen of it on her hands. Her friend had gotten purple, and the mother who had done them both had ended up having two different colors, with each girl taking each hand, painting them yellow on one hand and green on the other. It was actually a nice match, and her face went from worried to relaxed, taking the incentive to let them stick a couple of jewels in some of the fingers. Now, it wasn't all that pretty because an 8 year old and 10 year old had done them, but she looked very happy. As soon as she had got home, she had tacked her own mother and did her nails the same way, while showing off her own nails in the process. It was still pristine this morning, and Sakura smiled a bit at the grin that had come up to her mother's face. Kunoichi weren't allowed to indulge in much if the aesthetic parts since it normally wasn't much of a help in their lifestyles, but in the occasional instances where they allowed themselves some slack, it was a real boost to their women power. Even her father had grinned a little at something as simple as the neon yellow manicure.
Taking her mind off of that, she turned her attention back to the classroom, looking around. As she had recovered some of her chakra, she decided to try the chakra molding again.

All her resting was disturbing the flow that she had caught on to in her tries to mold the chakra. Would this ever work correctly so she could finally finish catching up??? Staring wistfully at her bento inside the small pack at her waist, she fervently prayed to the gods to increase the pace at which she was going so that she could finally get some real rest. Stealing a glance at the once again silent sensei, she returned to her assignment and hoped there wouldn't be anything else that would distract her. All this commotion and tension was really harming her ability to draw on her chakra it seemed...

The spiritual energy was refusing to be mixed with the physical one, and forcing them together wasn't going to work by the way things were going. She would really need some serious luck if she wanted things to go her way. Murmuring to herself, she repreated the hand signs that she had learned, and focused on her chakra's flow as she kept the re-run of the signs going. Tori, I, Inu, Tatsu, Ushi, Tora, Mi, Ne, Uma, Saru, U, Hitsuji...' she thought as she made the corresponding seals to herself. Maybe the lack of calm was getting to her. She decided to continue this for a couple steps before attempting the assignment again.

Uma, Tora, Hitsuji, Saru, I, Uma, Tora. she thought as she pretended to put in chakra to the seals and make the jutsu. Katon: Gōkakyū no Jutsu! She liked the hand seals to this particular jutsu, and she became a little wistful as she stared at her hands. It was all so easy when she had only thought about the different ways she could use this skill. But as of right now she was just struggling to just mold her chakra and finish it 10 times. 'How hard could 10 times be?' was her initial thought, but after doing the hand seals and then this, she found it to be very hard and frustrating indeed. If only she had practiced a little more when she was at home... Ah well. at least she was learning now, and that would have to make up for it.

Letting her thoughts wander, she searched for her tessen and spread it out on the desk. Tracing the sakura petals on the fan, she held the smooth surface of it before picking it up and fanning herself with it. It was getting a little hot and uncomfortable for her liking, and to top it off she was getting really hungry. That bento sounded really good right now, but she'd have to wait before eating it. She hoped her mother had packed some dango sticks in it so she could feast on them. Her parents were quite strict when it came to their diet. Sakura had taken to passing by the dango shop every once in a while and smell the aroma before heading home. Smelling the sweet scent was better than nothing at all, and afterwards she would imagine that she was eating all the dango in the world, while in reality she was empty of ryo. Still, it wasn't harming anyone else, and the extra walk helped her appetite. Putting back the fan, she got ready to do the molding yet again.

A faint sheen of chakra covered her body, and although she didn't see it, she could feel that the chakra was working beautifully and spinning around her body very quickly and efficiently. The perfected technique made her very happy, and she was glad that she had finally gotten a successful try on the molding. Now there were only two more left it seemed. Hoping to finish it quickly, Sakura now reluctantly released the chakra and felt it evaporate from her grasp. Smiling, she focused again and worked to mold the chakra again like the last time.

Continuing the action for a little more, she then relaxed and slowed the flow. Now she was almost done. One more try and then she could rest and perhaps start searching for Amaya. She was really worried, and she pondered as to where she would be for this long. Feeling some of the fibers pull from the main cord, Amaya looped her finger through them and held as best she could. Making sure to do so slowly and carefully so she didn’t hurt her wrist at the odd angle, the child lowered her back to the floor. Her hands were pinned but because she had a finger hooked onto the knot she was able to make it lay the way she needed it to. Once she was confident she had a good grip, the girl alternated between trying to pull at the knot and trying to push the loose end back through the knot. It took some time and it took a little bit of re-angling her shoulders in order to get the right approach, the surely enough the small girl was able to pull the loose end through the knot.
Sitting upright, Amaya used her arms against her back in order to make the loosened rope fall off the part of her wrist it had been holding. Finally, she had the three knots at her wrist undone. Once more she bent and twirled her wrists as they enjoyed the sudden range of available motion. She would need all the available dexterity that she could force as the next knots began travelling up her forearms. Sure, they were spaced close together, but that was also because she was small. Then she got to thinking about the length of rope that she had just frayed. Hopefully Ko-sensei wouldn’t be mad at her for doing that in order to get out. Then again, the girl found herself not caring. He had bound her and put tape over her mouth, leaving her in a room, alone, to struggle. It didn’t matter so much how she got out as much as whether she got out. The child was content with her slow but promising progress. Then again, maybe it wasn’t promising at all. Perhaps it was just the increased range of motion that had her hopes up. Regardless of what it was, Amaya felt her energy flee from her body once again. She was tired. She had been continuously tired that day. It was time for her to rest again, but resting in an empty room all alone was dull and made things difficult. She didn’t want to fall asleep because she didn’t want to have someone come in without her knowing it.

Being absolutely exhausted, the child decided to lie back down. She placed her palms back on the floor and took in the cool wooden floor against the skin. It had been hot in Konoha recently and she was appreciative of the slight relief. Things had gotten so bad that her father and she had begun to carry canteens on their errands around town. They even had to do the grocery shopping because her mother wouldn’t allow the boys out of the house for fear of losing track of one of them. Watching four boys wasn’t easy, much less when all of them were only two years old. The boys weren’t happy about not being taken outside, but they were easily distracted by anything that made noise; so anything they managed to get their hands on. It was adorable for the first few minutes, but after that the family would just get a headache, the boys would start screaming, mother would retreat to the kitchen, and father would disappear to the shop downstairs. Sure, they weren’t parent of the year material, but they were better than many and they did the best they could for their five children.
Amaya smiled as she thought of her bothers. They were so cuddly every time she came back up from the shop, she couldn’t quite imagine the greeting she would get that evening after having been gone all day. Normally they would at least get to see her for lunch when she came upstairs with her father on heavy work days. This was going to be the longest time they had gone without seeing her and she hoped that both the boys and her mother was handling things alright. Father would be fine. He would disappear into the shop and not be able to hear a thing – much less care about anything going on above him. It was a happy home and just thinking about it made the girl happy. She really was one of the lucky ones She was able to live in an environment that hadn’t been struck by tragedy, which allowed her to develop into her own person instead of being shaped by scarring events during her childhood. Sure, someday there would be no more mother and father. Her brothers were bound to get in trouble or disappoint her eventually; but if that was all she had to worry about then she figured she was living the high life.
