Hattori clicked his tongue as he attempted to rebuild the knot that he just made. He weaved a little loop, then a bight. He slipped the bight through and successfully recreated the knot from before. The student tossed it into the pile, then gritted his teeth- when he threw it, the knot unraveled! The b*****d!

Hattori grabbed the piece of string, and followed the procedure once more. He made a loop in the rope, then a bight, a bight- and Dammit, made a noose! Redo! The thirteen year old deconstructed the accidental knot, then tried once more. Loop- loop- bight- NO THAT'S NOT RIGHT! Loop- bight- then tuck- there we go. Hattori secured the knot like he did originally: First he held the knot with one hand, and pulled the long end with the other.

With that last pull, he was done the knot he should have had a few minutes before. With the Slip Knot securely in place. Hattori placed it on top of the pile, and reached for another rope. This would be his eighth. Hattori mused that he should celebrate his eighth knot with the Figure Eight knot.

Why knot!!! Hattori's smile fell, and transformed into a look of disgust, if not pain, ...Ouch... That pun hurt... a lot...

Wanting to assure himself that he had correctly tied the knot again by straining it in a more realistic fashion, Hizen looped one end of the new ‘double’ rope over a pole and used the other to tie one of the bowline knots around a heavy weight that was included in the kit. Hizen dropped the weight and let it bounce on the end of the rope a few times before he was satisfied that the knot was solid. Quickly removing the pole and weight, Hizen untied the hunter’s knot that he had just learned. Making sure that each attempt followed the same set of instructions and that the final knot was not too tight, but tight enough to prevent the ropes from slipping, Hizen quickly tied several more hunter’s knots to make sure he was confident he had mastered it.

”Good. That’s another knot learned. It’s good and prudent to have a variety of knots available in my repertoire, just in case I have need of it. It would appear that a rope can be used for an astounding number of things.” Trying to make sure he didn’t freeze another rope, and flipping to the next knot in the book, Hizen began trying to tie this next one successfully.

He was just about he head for that hallway, but something grabbed his attention instead. It was another student calling out to Miyuki, Loric he thought was the students name. With a sigh of relief, Kuro decided to so and see what was happening over in their direction first. He remembered that it was the pink haired female's reaction that he pretty much copied without really wanting to. He moved over toward the two students and pondered for a moment. "Hey... Loric and Miyuki right? Sorry to intrude but any idea on what is going on here?" It wasn't a get start but he really wanted to know what was going on. Looking over to Miyuki he wondered how she was fairing, it looked like she was doing ok, but there was no way to be sure since he wasn't in her mind. Ether way though they all had been involved in this experience and figured that if they pooled all of their information together then things maybe start to make sense. While waiting on an answer, he figured that he'd recap all the events that had just gone on yet again. Something was bothering him, but he just couldn't figure out what.

Jynn carefully paced the hall, clenching his arms around him. The only noises he heard were his own steps. The thud of his feet was accompanied by the twisted mimicry of a child's lullaby. Even through his fear, he found himself walking towards the singing, even though every rational part of him was screaming to leave. Curiosity pulled him forward, dragging him down the hall. Jynn lost track of how long he had been walking. He turned his head to look behind him, trying to see how far away his class was. Not only could he not see his class, he couldn't see any doors at all. The entire length of the corridor stretched on endlessly. The boy looked forward and found that his current path held the same results. Jynn kept walking, slowly making his way towards where he thought the voice was. To him, it felt as if he was being watched. Not from any one being, or any one place. It felt as if every inch of ceiling, wall, and floor was constantly keeping an eye on him. Watching, waiting for him to fall. Jynn tried his best to focus on his gift, hopefully using it to find some sort of answers to this nightmare.

Hattori's stomach quaked in disgust from that just plain terrible pun. He had heard the word 'Knot' enough times that day. The last thing he needed to do was make puns using the friggin' word. Hattori then realized that his stomach was still quaking. It suddenly occurred to him, he'd spent so much time tying knots today that he didn't even eat.

Hattori shrugged, then reached down into his bag for his soda. His hand probed around the back. He felt his pencils and pens, his calculator, his two notebooks, and some little interior pocket thing. To his horror, it wasn't ther- Oh, right, I gave it to the sensei... Hattori sighed with such discontent a little puff of breath came out with it.

He shook of his hunger and thirst, and returned to knot tying. The next knot on his list was the Figure Eight Knot, or Flemish Knot. Just like the Slip Knot, the Figure Eight Knot was used as a stopping knot.

First, he began by passing the end of the rope over itself to form a loop. He continued under and around the long rope end. He completed the Figure Eight my passing the short end through the loop that he made. With a quick pull, the Figure Eight Knot was complete!

Stressing his latest knot attempt and finding it holding, Hizen was very excited. ”I really seem to be getting the hang of this knot tying thing. And, after seeing these knots, I can definitely see how it’s a useful skill for a shinobi. Don’t get cocky, Hizen. That’s what will set you back and undo all of this progress. Take it one skill at a time. One successful knot understood adds a skill to your arsenal that you might need one day. Don’t let it go to your head.” Having finished several attempts at the water knot, Hizen decided that he understood it well enough.

Flipping to the table of contents, Hizen decided to try a trick knot, one that looks and is secure to casual inspection, but, given the right know how, is easily untied with little effort. ”I can definitely see where this could come in handy. As shinobi, we sometimes must hide our true intentions. ‘See underneath the underneath’ as my father would say.” Finding the detailed diagrams and instructions easier to understand after having mastered a few knots, Hizen grabbed the appropriate supplies from the provided kit and began trying to tie the knot and untie it with its gimmick.

Hattori looked out the window. The cloudy afternoon sky was growing dim. Detention was really running late today. At this rate, he might not get his last two knots done in time! Hattori leaped into action and began to tie is ninth knot!

Hattori flipped through the book and came to something called the Sheet Bend. This was a different sort of knot because it required two ropes instead of one! Hattori grabbed two of he remaining rope pieces and began the Sheet Bend knot.

Hattori read, The Sheet Bend is a rope tying technique that is recommended for joining two ropes of different sizes. The thicker of the two ropes should be used for the simple bight. First begin by forming a loop with the thicker rope. Hattori inspected his ropes. One rope was just a tad thicker than the other, so he used that one for the loop.

The student followed along with his rope piece. He passed the thinner rope through the loop and behind the tail of the standing ends. He then passed the rope around a second time to make the ever-so-slightly-more complex Double Sheet Bend!

Hattori finished the knot by tucking the the smaller rope under itself, and pulled tight.

"Knot Nine. Complete!"

Hattori was psyched, he was now on his tenth and final knot! He was on the home stretch, the last turn, the winning lap! The student grabbed for a rope- he touched the desk where he had them, and all there was... was more desk! Hattori looked at where his hand rested, did the math, and realized that he used his tenth rope in the last knot!

The young Fuuma got up from his desk and walked to the back of the room. He grabbed one more rope- his final rope- then sat down at his desk. Hattori thumbed through the text book, and stopped suddenly. Of course.. Chapter One! The thirteen year old ninja trainee closed the book. He turn reopened it, and turned a few pages in to Chapter One, the chapter that he didn't care about hours before. His last knot would be the first one he read.

I'd marvel at the metaphor, but I'm in a rush.

Hattori would be making the Overhand Knot, Knot tying one oh one. He began by forming a loop with the rope. He passed the end through it. Then with a simple pull, the knot was complete. In his hand, he had the Overhand knot.

Hattori stood up from his desk and stretched his arms and legs. He gathered his things, and approached the Sensei's desk, "Great detention and everything, but I finished my last five knots."

Takuya had arrived just in time to see two of the students from earlier make their way out of the building, one of them looked worse for wear. It was only then that the smell of vomit made it to his senses. Scrunching his nose slightly he grinned. Someone had vomited because of the creepy hallway? Of course, he had the choice to push through the door. Something was beckoning him inwards, and although he still had the warnings of the teachers in mind, to be quite frank he didn’t quite care. Catching a glimpse of one of the girls walking through the door Takuya strode forwards, it seemed at least one of them had some sense in them. Still, Takuya no matter what impression he had given to everyone was not a complete fool. Yes, he was headed into a situation that was potentially dangerous, and yet his morbid curiosity was getting the better of him.

For all Takuya knew this was a test, he wouldn’t put it past instructors. But he was not doing this because he felt like it was something that was expected from him because of a test, no. This was perhaps the most interesting thing that had happened to him all day. With a grin Takuya pushed the door open, making his way inside after the girl.

The chatter from the student’s just outside disappeared as soon as he entered, the sudden shift in perception threw him off for a moment, before Takuya move onwards he halted and observed the hallway he had entered. The girl who had entered was nowhere in sight, he was alone and the hallway seemed to stretch forever. Around him the walls shifted, closing in and making him feel more claustrophobic. The floors heaved and fell, as if this entire hallway was some sort of living entity.

Oh this was certainly more interesting than tying knots. Unable to suppress his glee he turned around, noting that there was no longer any way to leave behind him. He supposed the only way out now was the exit at the end. At first he had started to walk towards the door, but realized that with every step he took the door only extended further down the hallway. His grin only widened. This would be a challenge that was for certain.

Of course, the most logical explanation would be that this whole scenario was a genjutsu, an illusion. The intercom itself had referred to this whole scenario as a hallucination. That in itself gave Takuya the sneaking suspicion that the school itself had actually orchestrated this whole ordeal, regardless he would play into this little game. A short laugh escaped his lips as he ran his hand along the wall, feeling it shift beneath his hands. The sensation itself was almost as if he was being eaten alive by this hallway. Quickly, he withdrew his hand, studying the hall before him. If he could figure out how to tie knots on his own, he was sure that he could figure a way out of this situation.

Picking up his pace, Takuya began to run towards the door. Of course, he hadn’t expected it to work but in situations like this is was best to try every avenue of action. Even if the solution seemed like the easiest way out. In many puzzles or rhymes the answer was what was sitting right in front of your face. He was sure that that the way to solve this was in this room, he just had to be able to decipher what the solution was.

Hizen finished tying the trick knot as presented in the book. Pulling on the loose ends to unravel it, the knot started to slip as the instructions had described, but then the ropes seemed to catch on something and the knot tangled itself into a wad of rope. ”No! That one seemed easy! What happened?" Hizen untangled the failed knot and began inspecting the rope.

Upon examination, Hizen noticed that the particular rope he had been using for this trick knot was rather rough textured in the area where the knot had been tied. ”Hmm… did the rough texture of the rope cause the release mechanism to fail and cause the knot to tangle upon itself? Let’s see if I can try a smoother rope for this knot.” Digging through the kit he was provided, Hizen found another rope of similar size that seemed to be much smoother, seeming to almost be made of a silk-like substance. ”Hmm… I think this one will work. The fibers don’t look rough. Hopefully if I can tie this in the easy rope, I can move towards tying it in the other.” Laying the rope out, Hizen looped the ends through the patterns indicated by the text book’s instructions.

As he suspected, the door did not come any closer, and if possible the way out seemed to be just as far away. He laughed again as the walls and floor thrashed and heaved once more. There was no need to continue running; instead he needed to figure out an alternate solution. Looking upwards he noted that although the floors and walls were moving, the ceiling seemed stagnant, like the distance between the doors it was unmoving. Perhaps getting up and inside the roof would be the answer to get out of the hallway.

However, even though Takuya was 5’2 there was still quite a distance between him and the ceiling. Glancing over to the wall he spotted the railing. He could at the very least, use that to attempt to haul himself up. If he could push the paneling upwards and loop some of the fabric he was using around it there was the possibility that could heft himself up. Unwrapping the fabric from around his arm he exposed the blackened flesh. Taking a deep breath he prepared the fabric, maybe tying those knots would come in handy after all. If he could at least get two of the panels loose, the fabric was long enough that he could possibly loop it around and secure it that way.

The hallway will rapidly narrow itself to the point where you find yourself force to be face to face with the wall and only able to shuffle side to side. The railing will be hard pressed against your abdomen and back causing great discomfort. Meanwhile the floor and ceiling will extend into a darkened distance until nothing can be left to sight leaving you to use the railings to keep yourself up or allow yourself to slowly and painfully slide against them until completely falling into the dark abyss below.

PC Formula: 50 + [Strength(5) + Toughness(5) vs 200]/10

Should you fail you will take a -2 to your Strength Stat and will fall into the abyss.
Should you pass the walls spasm and press against you before relaxing allowing you a chance to climb onto the Rail.

PC Formula: 50 + [Agility(5) + Strength(5) vs 100]/10
You will have to make the first check again with a -5 to your Base Chances should you fail.

Radagon couldn't believe that he had failed once again to make a knot. And now the rope will suffer with him. Taking the rope that had failed to make a knot, he placed it in his pocket and swore that once he was out of this school, he was going to burn the damn thing. So, standing up once again from his seat, Radagon walked to the back of the class and grabbed yet another length of rope and walked back to his desk to sit down with it. Now, there was goign to be no more mercy from him toward the rope. If it failed to make a knot when he knew that he was doing it correctly, and yet the rope fell apart for every attempt he made to make a knot. How long was he going to fail at thing? It's a knot, not trying to make a pyramid. No matter how hard the task was though, Radagon was not going to give up for anything. Even if he failed in the end, he could at least say that he had tried. What did he care what others thought? Yes they may laugh at him, but he could raise he head high and say that rope defeated him in every way. Staring at the rope on his desk, Radagon grabbed the string of yarn and began to work on a knot.

Giving himself a sigh of relief, Radagon was finally able to break his streak of bad luck for the moment. He had been able to make another knot, and since that was his fourth one now, Radagon had a good feeling that he was going to be able to pass this final push. Now he was going to go nuts and try to go as fast as he could to keep this streak going, though his past attempts were still haunting him. Taking a look around, he noticed the people who were also in his position were now hauling butt to get their work done as fast as possible, so he knew he was going to have to step it up as well. Though it seemed they were having much better luck than him for their beginning, he could feel a second wind comign voer him that pushed him to compete with his fellows. Radagon grabbed the rope and already began moving his hands as fast he could to make a knot. He crunched a few of his fingers attempting and he dropped the rope a few times, but he was getting close to making a knot, little by little.

“Miyuki,” Loric yelled out, “Are you ok over there?”

Miyuki raised her head questioningly as she stood from the comforting ground which had. She looked around for the origin of that familiar voice hoping that it was not another haunting experience. The young girl wrapped her arms around herself in a protective way. Upon seeing Loric’s face which seemed genuinely worried, Miyuki responded, “I am better. Thank you.”

Miyuki entered the school building once more to figure out what Loric was doing. “Did you not see or hear it,” she whispered approaching Loric and grabbing onto the back of his clothing. She was beginning to tremble slightly just nearing the area. Then, Kuro approached asking if she or Loric knew what had happened. The girl shook her head back and forth slightly; however, she started to look around the vicinity for any changes. When she really began to analyze the situation; she realized that someone was missing.

“There was someone else before, right?” Miyuki grimaced noticing that the girl with fox like features had not gone past her outside, so something else probably more terrifying must’ve happened. “You aren’t…,” the young girl trailed off realizing what Loric must’ve been planning. They wanted to go in after the girl with fox like qualities.

“Why not just contact the superiors?” Miyuki asked Loric in a very serious tone while looking him straight into the eyes. What she felt when her body naturally reacted by running away was absolute terror. She did not want to be held responsible if anything happened to any of the other students, as well.

Jynn exclaimed and staggered back, covering his eyes with his palm. Whatever it was he was expecting, it wasn't that. For his world to go suddenly wonky like that? That wouldn't have been at the top of the boy's list. Jynn exhaled and rubbed his eyes and blinked a few times, trying to get his focus back. The boy was startled back another step: his vision hadn't returned to normal! The narrow hall was still twisting and warping, as if it was all made of of liquid. The entire corridor was pitch black, while all of the angles were white. All around him the singing got louder, some of the voice giggling under the melody. Jynn reached out, using the wall to guide him and keep him upright in the topsy-turvy world. He refused to deactivate his trick yet; there was still something to try. Maybe if he could find at least one door? He had no idea if the hall was an illusion or not, not entirely. But there had to have been at least one door. This was a school, after all! He just needed a room to sit ad gather his thoughts, to tell himself that it would be okay. Or to just sit down and cry. Jynn hadn't decided which one, yet.
