Beneath Cass' hand the "child" was trembling. It was any wonder how they were still standing as their knees began to knock together. "I'm sorry!" She blurted out, "I'm sorry I'm sorry I'm sorry it wasn't supposed to be like this at all! We were supposed to scare someone and --"
The kid fell silent, biting her tongue as Dakota spoke up. Her eyes were locked on Chama. "No no no no NO!" She screamed and bolted!
...Or tried to, at least. The "child" tripped over her own two feet and fell down the remaining stairs. She landed with a hard thud at the bottom and didn't move. Were limbs supposed to bend that way?
(( She's getting away! Rol 1d20. You will need to beat her roll to recapture, should you wish to. HAHA nevermind. ))

"s**t!" Jordan took the stairs two at a time on the way down, going to one knee next to the child, then hesitating - if a human had fallen like that, he recalled that someone trying to help should avoid moving the victim to keep from making the injuries worse. Did that go for Halloween creatures as well? He put a cautious hand on the kid's shoulder, eyes scanning her small body in an attempt to assess her injuries and see if she was breathing. "Kid, are you okay?"
Wilson frowned at Dakota. "Dakota, you really shouldn't--" He stopped suddenly as the child shouted and fled. The hunter flinched when she watched her tumble down the stairs and he followed after Jordan, but not before he shot Dakota a look. "She should be okay," he guessed. "That fall didn't hurt too much, did it?"

There was no gif on the internet to express Cass' face right then, having reached out to try and grab the kid only for them to fall through her fingers and down the stairs. The look was then turned towards Dakota as she tilted her head to one side.
With that.....look..... out if the way (was she mad? Upset? Annoyed? Confused about what has just happened? Cass stahp) she made her way carefully down the stairs. "Supposed to scare someone.... Did we stumble into some sort of Halloween coming-of-age rite or something?" She said with a deep breath before crouching to give the sprawled child a curious look, making a point to not check with her hands - just in case that would make it worse.
"Did we ever think to check those kids earlier for FEAR?" She asked, looking towards Jordan since that seemed to be his thing and he'd been the one with her when they'd had their little small tagalong.
It didn't move. The shoulder felt small and solid under his hand, still warm. There were several injuries. A backwards-bent knee was the most predominant, as was the arm that bent in three different places.
A shudder rippled through the small form as it regained consciousness, the head lifting up slightly. She stared at Jordan for a long second before she raised herself onto the tips of her fingers and toes.
Wilson and Cass: At the foot of the stairs, the child that Jordan was kneeling next to began to scuttle away on the tips of her toes and fingers.
Cass:
Cass' phone indicates an incoming phone call. Do you answer?

Cass had learned to answer her phone extremely quickly when there was a message incoming, hitting the 'Answer' button even before the device was out of her pocket.
Quietly she greeted, "This is Cass," as she moved to keep the small scareling child within her line of vision.
"Not caught. We have at least four Scarelings in the house that are confirmed, one is currently trying to skitter away from me. We also have a potential of a few scared human children in the house as well."
"What?! How many have you taken out?! Get a confirmation on those kids and if there are any get them out. You've got another group enroute."

"On it." Cass answered, trying to not let the look she had on her face pass through the phone before she passed a glance over the group. "Someone come with me. We're going to go see if we can find that little girl from earlier and...." she looked at Jordan, then nodded towards their other little girl. "keep a hold on her."
Please.
With that, Cass actually didn't wait for someone to volunteer to join her as she started to roam the downstairs for their little lost duckling from earlier.
The scareling under his hand was bent strangely in several places, and Jordan felt as though his emotions were doing much the same thing; panic, pity, anger, and confusion twisted up in his chest. Then the scareling opened her eyes, looked straight at him, and began to skitter away. She didn't look like she was in pain - perhaps this was the way her body worked -
Cass ordered him to keep hold of the ghoul, and turned away.
He lunged to get an arm across the scareling's waist; the stretch brought his face closer to her. Hastily, very quietly, while he was turned away from the others, he whispered to the ghoul, "Squirm loose - you and your friends get out of here - our job is the human kids. Go!" The hand he had on her waist stayed loosely curled, not holding tightly; if the child wanted to slide free, she could.

Dakota on the other hand had only descended the stairs to curl his lip at the scareling like kid. Nothing in his book was more dangerous then a halloween creature who looked like a kid. Even worst when they could act like it.
But unlike Jordan, he didn't have any qualms. Kids attracted kids and where ever the human ones were, this kid would know.
Chama was held over the girl's body, a questioningly look at Jordan. "Cass said you gotta stay kid. We want our kind back, soon as we get them back, You can go back to whatever hole you crawled out of."
It seemed like Dakota didn't hear Jordan's words to her but he still kept his weapon pointed at the girl...thing.
The first downstairs room was dark and dusty. It looked to be a dining room of sorts, however the room was barren of any and all furniture. This room was empty.
In the next room, however, there were multiple places to hide both people and things. There were numerous cabinets, an oven, a dishwasher, even an abandoned refrigerator. The question now was-- wait, what was that? It sounded like a thump thump thump, but... did it come from this room, or the one next to it?
To search the kitchen, roll 1d10. To search another room, roll 1d20. Choose one.
Jordan & Dakota:
The girl threw a look at Jordan: surprise, confusion, relief. Her expression was replaced by horror as Dakota loomed over them. With a snap and a crack her limbs returned to their proper humanesque places as she cowered, pushing back and shuddering in Jordan's arm. "Th-that's not fair!" She cried out, "You're trying to kill us, and we told you that we're not trying to hurt you! J-just let us go!"

s**t. There went plausible deniability. Jordan kept a firm lid on his frustration, not letting it show on his face or in his voice. "We don't want anyone to get hurt either," he said, as calmly as he could, with an even look at Dakota. His hold on the scareling stayed loose and careful; if she felt like it, it wouldn't take much effort to slide out and run, but the angle of his arm had changed subtly, almost protective. "Heck, I'd prefer it if everyone could just go home peacefully. You feel like telling us what you're here for? Did you see who stuck you in a closet?"
Cass pulled her scarf up over her nose. The last thing she needed was to start sneezing all over because of dust and end up making the situation worse than it already was. The dining room looked like someone had taken the furniture away a long time ago, so unless there were - well, she'd check for those in a moment. It was better to start straight forward right then.
Not having her flashlight anymore, having given it to the runaway child earlier, posed a small problem as Cass fussed through her bag for a moment. She knew she ha- Aha! Glowstick. Perma-light, but it wouldn't keep the spiders away (wat). She cracked it before she started going through the kitchen and opening everything.
