The strike had worked, but this time it seemed that Gage was getting serious. However, she wasn't gonna let that bother her. "Oh I think it was an attack. But I had been ready for it. Don't let this formation fool you Xavier! Quick Attack through the left part of the circle!" She called out. If she could get him out that would be good, and if it also caused damage that was also a good thing. While he had lunged off to the left, it seemed that all he had done was strike through one of the copies. It was at least getting him away from the oncoming attack so he could brace himself. The disrupt worked, and Pikachu paused - the real one was the one that stopped first and then changed her path in order to dodge the zebra. "Strike back before they zero in on you, Peek!" Switching up from defending to offense again, this time she came in from the side with a head-slamming headbutt-like attack. Gage grinned to himself. For a girl who confessed that she never battled, Alyss was holding her ground. Now if only electricity was involved, this match would be truly explosive! Gage felt that blood of his moving, and it was almost as good as a high as when he was on the trail of a rare pokemon. Battling wasn't so bad, he just hadn't done it in a long time. Xavier spun around to see Peek coming straight at him with a headbutt move, and so he braced himself for the attack. "So far so good...he isn't showing any signs of fatigue yet." She muttered to herself. When he took the hit, she smiled. "Don't let off! Strike back and hard!" She called out, watching Xavier strike the ground with one hoof, move it back, then charged forward, head first towards Peek. She wasn't gonna back down yet. She believed in the Xavier that believed in her! (( Want me to switch out so it does some damage to a pokemon? )) Bounced back with a new bruise, Pikachu wasn't made for taking hits. The rat was built for doling out serious electric damage and hitting hard and fast. This long drawn out duke-'em fest was not in Gage's favor, but it was doing a good job of showing Pikachu what he was going to expect of it from here on out - ferocity. "Stop pulling the punches, Pikachu! Another Slam!" "PIIIIIKA!" She shouted angrily at Gage over her shoulder, irritated that he thought she wasn't trying her hardest already. And when she turned back around to look at Blitzle she lowered to all four feet on the ground. It was a front assault now, and using her little fist, it was going to be a devastating upper cut if she could get in close enough from the ground, spring up, and try to nail Blitzle in the chin. The issue was that it put her close to those sharp hooves, and both pokemon were speedy and zap-powered lightning types. Things seemed to be looking up for her. Sure, both of the Pokemon were starting to get exhausted from the hits back and forth, but she thought that she was on the upper hand so far. On top of that, the Pikachu was getting angrier thanks to Gage's calls. They aren't in sync yet. This is definitely good for me. Of course, this wasn't going to work for her since that Pikachu was coming up from below. "Back up Xavier!" She called. He started to back up, though he got clipped. She started to bite her lower lip, since she wasn't sure how long he could keep this up. Pikachu missed the full impact, but there was a little contact as her tiny fist barely clipped Xavier's chin. Gage knew he was going to have to work on accuracy for all his pokemon, but Pikachu for sure. Speed and strength were great, but speed, strength, AND accuracy made all the attacks lethal. 'Hmmm ...Well, no reason to change course now. Pikachu landed on her feet, this time not leaving a wide opening for Blitzle to counter. Her ear twitched, her chest heaving, but there was no mocking words from Gage. She grinned, showing those little sharp Pikachu fangs. "Again, just like that. Uppercut your Slam attack with your tail this time." It was another high-risk move, but it would likely end the fight if it connected, and Pikachu needed the battle to be over. She was starting to get tired and fast from all the movement, while the zebra had stayed relatively stationary during the battle. But the second attack didn't lack any power behind it. She rushed forward from down low and jumped again, but this time instead of a fist it was her tail she used to aim to slam Blitzle's chin upwards. He wasn't letting off, and that wasn't looking good. While she had Xavier remain stationary, the hits were taking their toll on him. She bit her lower lip some more since she wasn't sure what to do. However she didn't even need to think of a command. Xavier moved back, sparking with electricity, as he let off a shock wave that went straight towards Peek. "Whoa...that's awesome! Your first electric move!" She called out, dashing on over to Xavier to give him a hug. She then looked over to Gage and smiled. "And it's because of your help that he learned this." It was then that she remembered that this was still a battle, retreating back to where she had been originally, feeling embarrassed because of her excitement. But now she had a chance against the gym leader! It was getting close to the end of the match, one side had to eventually cave as each pokemon was getting closer and closer to the brink. Gage found that he didn't really care if he won or lost, this was excellent training for his Pikachu. More battles like this and she'd be a top-notch contender in no time. But the Discharge came as a surprise, and it made Gage grin all the more. Pikachu's tail stood upright as the electricity flowed outwards from the zebra, and the lightning didn't just fizzle on the yellow rat's fur, but it was absorbed into her cheek pouches. Pikachu's electric attacks would become stronger thanks to her ability sucking in the amps. Too bad Xavier had the exact same ability. Gage laughed when the other trainer ran out onto the field to hug her pokemon, "No, no, don't worry about it, kid! I say we've done enough training with these two, so we can call this one a win-win situation, yeah? No reason to watch them beat the snot out of each other. What about your ... Shinx, right? You want to see if we can toughen that one up too?" Pikachu let out a weary sigh, glad the battle was over and she fell over face first to rest in the grass. But mm, that electricity had tasted good. She sighed with relief that he wasn't mad at her for what she did. Although Xavier did deserve a rest so she called him over to her side. Though train Tigres? Well he did seem to be somewhat stronger than when she first caught him, but she wasn't sure when he would learn his first electric move. She pulled out the Pokedex that had been given to her and took a look at Tigres. "Hm...seems it will be a long ways before he gains his first electric move." She said, frowning. That would be a lot of effort, and there wasn't exactly that much time left before she would want to challenge the gym. She looked back up and shrugged. "He'll need six more levels before he learns Spark, and I'm not sure we will want to waste that much time. But if you are up for it then I can do that!" "Six levels? For that much I should be charging you like a Daycare Service ... which I do offer, in case you're interested." Nevermind that's how Gage once stole half his pokemon by getting dumb trainers to give him their pokemon to level for them. Sure, he also did it legitimately, except he was no breeder, and half the time he just replaced an extra special pokemon with one of the same species that wasn't so great, chalking it up to the time spent away from the trainer to explain the personality change. What did the pros call them, individual values in stats? It worked in the past. Rubbing his chin thoughtfully, Gage sure didn't want to go the distance to get some kid's Shinx six levels higher for free, except he had one more pokemon to try out. "Okay, I'll tell you what. One last match up to help both of us out. Your Shinx against my Croagunk, and it'll be a lesson in attack for you. We won't make a move unless your Shinx comes at us." Gage withdrew Pikachu from the field, and next tossed the ball for Croagunk. This too was the first time that Croagunk had been out of his pokeball since he had been captured, and his reaction to the new set of facts was much like Pikachu. Except when he accepted his fate, he trilled with wicked joy and flexed his muscles. Gage and his pokemon had beaten the snot out of Croagunk when Croagunk was captured from his lake. This was now an opportunity to get strong, stronger, and stronger still with a human trainer at the helm. Using that counterfeit pokedex of his again, Gage got the list of moves for Croagunk. A daycare service? That seemed kind of sketchy to her, and there was also the fact that Alyss wanted to train all of her Pokemon on her own. "Sorry but I'll pass on that." She said. Although the next training opponent seemed more scary to her than anything. She wasn't sure that Tigres could hold his own against this Croagunk. Plus a lesson on attacking...well Tigres did have Intimidate so that could help him out. There was also Leer. "Uh..." She said, thinking about her situation. All Tigres knew was Tackle and Leer, so there wasn't much they could do offensively. Although there could be some sort of combination she could pull off to get him to not get hurt. "Aim to get behind the Croagunk and then use Tackle!" She called out. Tigres looked back at her, and she nodded to him. He looked back and darted forward, moving around the Croagunk before lunging at its backside. Gage was all about the shady deals, and he smirked when she declined the offer for him to help raise her pokemon up several levels. Alyss wouldn't have been the first to smell a rat, but he'd let the subject drop easily just in case she did start wanting to ask questions. Certain questions. Probing questions. Instead, she sent her Shinx to attack, and Gage was fine for that. Now, the mean thing to do was to use Revenge and slap the Flash cub around silly. But that wasn't the point. Gage already knew from watching this Croagunk battle in the wild that it wasn't afraid to hold back, not like Pikachu was. Rather, he had to teach this frog some restraint. "I hope you know it's coming from behind ..." Surely, Alyss had already given up the whole point of a sneak attack from behind when she announced it, and Croagunk turned right away. Even though he didn't have the ability Anticipation, it was just about impossible to sucker punch a Croagunk. One didn't become the kings of sucker punches without knowing all the tricks. He had the wind up for a Revenge, and then Gage ordered, "Reign it in, Gunk. Push it away and use your Taunt." Unsure at first, Croagunk didn't want a Tackle to the face either, so grabbed the Shinx as best he could to stop its charge. It still meant that Croagunk took some damage, yet not nearly as much as possible. The Toxic Mouth Pokémon shoved, then standing up straight, curled one finger to taunt Tigres into attacking again with a sly stare. While her original plan hadn't worked, it did give her a bit of insight on how this Croagunk worked. Then she frowned at the use of taunt since it constricted her to only having Tigres use tackle. This will be a fight that he can't win at this rate. She thought. There had to be some way to harm this thing. She just ended up taking out her doubt as Tigres decided to take a full on charge straight at the Croagunk again. Yup, this battle wasn't going to be an easy one, yet Croagunk was being told not to attack again. "Get out of the way and wait!" Croagunk leaped aside to dodge the Shinx, and waited just like Gage said to. And waited, and waited, wondering if there was going to be an attack given at all. Glaring over his shoulder at the human, Croagunk wasn't happy at all. This wasn't what he pictured in his mind when he was captured in a pokeball. He was supposed to be thrashing this cub! Croagunk disobeyed, scooping up a handful of damp dirt and flung it at Shinx for a Mud-Slap. Gage threw an empty pokeball hard at the back of Croagunk's head to punish it, surprising the frog, its eyes going wide. Who's team was Gage playing for now? Croagunk was wide open for attack as he turned to rant and rave at his pokemon trainer for distracting him like that from an easy battle. Tigres landed once he had missed his target, spinning around only to see the Croagunk pick up a handful of dirt. Alarmed, Tigres jumped out of the way when it had been tossed at him and then charged forward once he was distracted by Gage. Alyss just sat back, bewildered at the way Gage was treating his Pokemon. Something is off here. Maybe he's serious about training?
