'We've got this,' Riza thought, her lips set in a tight line. 'We can do this. We can win our second badge. We beat Surge, and we'll beat Misty, too.' She took a deep breath and exhaled sharply, glancing across the water at the gym leader before she looked back at the two Pokemon. She didn't like the sound of Ice Beam, as she remembered how being partially frozen had been Plua's downfall, and though it wouldn't be very effective against Diemia, she still didn't want to be hit. "Try and dodge!" Riza called. "And if you can, fight back with a Brick Break!"

The Crawdaunt narrowed her eyes as the race of ice was shot toward her, and she tried to move but it clipped her side and a chill crept through her body. It didn't seem to be more than a glancing blow, but it still hurt, and Diemia made a growling sound and swam forward, her claws glowing as she burst from the haze, which had already been starting to clear, and prepared to slam them into the Starmie as hard as she could.
* * * * *
Kord hopped up and down, clapping his hands together as Cable demonstrated his Brick Break technique on a nearby boulder, pulverizing it. The Elekid was giddy with delight and envy, and he hoped that someday he'd be that strong. He knew his Cross Chop was good, but it wasn't strong enough to shatter boulders! "Bibibiii!" he cheered, his prongs sparking from the added electricity from the elder Electivire. He scrambled up the larger Pokemon's side, once again perching on his head. It seemed Kord had found a big brother and friend in Cable.

Katie smiled, a little glad that Kilik was impressed with her little Elekid. "It's an Egg Move," she told the taller trainer. "Kord was born knowing that move. My mother had him specially bred just for me." She watched the two electric-types, unable to stop grinning. Cable's display of power only furthered her excitement for Kord's future evolutions. She'd always admired the power of an Electivire, and now she'd had a small, firsthand taste!

She glanced back over at the black haired boy, not surprised by his request. "Sure thing," she said, her ruby eyes sparkling playfully. "But if I show you mine, you'll have to show me yours!" The area was easily large enough for all the Pokemon to run around, and none of Katie's were that big, at least not yet. "Here's Miles," she said, releasing the Buizel. The water-type glanced around eagerly, but took a cautious step back at the sight of the two electric-types. "And this is Nell!" The normally playful Buneary put on a shy act, pretending to hide behind Miles. The Buizel wasn't fooled, however, and he gave her a playful nudge. Katie watched the two, still smiling as she released her Roselia next. "And this is Seraphim." Seraph looked up at Kilik and gave a polite little curtsy, sweet aromas wafting from her roses.

Lastly she held Genki and Noa's poke balls, a bit wary as she knew the two were not only attention hogs, but bitter rivals as well. She decided it would be fine if they came out together, lest she let Cable zap them into oblivion if they didn't behave. "This is Noa," she said, and the differently-coloured Staravia appeared, sparkles glittering around her. "And last but certainly not least, my very first Pokemon partner, Genki!" She released the Monferno, who did an aerial somersault as he was released from his poke ball. Of course the two spotted each other instantly and started to growl, but a sharp glare from Katie silenced them immediately. "What other Pokemon do you have, Kilik?" she then asked, looking on expectantly.

[Time Skip]

Cable chuckled and almost squirmed a little as Kord climbed up his side, as it tickled a little bit. He heard what Katie said about Cross Chop being an egg move and he got a little jealous. Of course, Cross Chop or not, Cable could destroy anything in his path but still; a move that strong certainly wouldn't hurt to have.

Born with it, huh? Kilik glanced up at Cable and blinked. When Rena left the Elekid egg with his parents, she didn't leave a notice of any egg moves. And at this point, Kilik would have known anything and everything Cable was capable of. And then Katie said something that made Kilik turn red in the face. D-Does she have to say something so embarrassing like that?! I bet she said that on purpose! he scratched his cheek then shook his head slightly to rid himself of his blush. One by one, she released her Pokemon. Most of them he had never even seen before. First the Buizel, who looked like a little otter. He waved and then watched as a small rabbit tried to hide behind him. Now, the next Pokemon he recognized; a Roselia. They were all over the outskirts of Verdanturf and his mom had kept one as her personal gardening aide. As the flower gave him a curtsy, he smiled.

"Afternoon, m'lady." He bowed to the Roselia and watched as sparkles showered down as a bird Pokemon was released. The sparkles were the tell-tell sign of a shiny Pokemon. He let out a low whistle. And then her final Pokemon, a Monferno. It looked similar enough to Chimchar and he deduced that it had to be his evolved form. "Very impressive, Katie! They all look quite strong!" he smiled and chuckled, "When we get back to the Pokemon Center, I'll have to show you all of my more powerful Pokemon."

"Since I started my adventure anew in Sinnoh, I figured the only partner I'd take with me is Cable and one egg," he explained as he unhooked the remaining three Pokeballs from his belt, "and start from scratch once I got here. But ready? First up, Chimchar!" He tossed the PokeBall up into the air and out came his chimp. As soon as he laid eyes on the Monferno across from him, however, his eyes narrowed and the flame on his butt grew hotter. "You'll have to forgive him, he's...an eager one." The boy put two fingers in his mouth and gave a sharp whistle, causing the Chimchar to back down.

"Then my newest partner, Drifloon!" As he tossed the Great Ball into the air and the balloon Pokemon came out, the two dangling strings he used as hands caught the ball and he slowly lowered it down to Kilik's hand. "Thanks," he smiled, patting Drifloon on his head. The Ghost-type hovered around Kilik's head slowly, making circles around it. "And finally, freshly evolved last night, my lovely Grovyle!"

She burst out of the ball and immediately hugged her trainer tightly. Lovely! He called her lovely! A hue of pink appeared on her cheeks and then she turned to see all the other Pokemon around her. They weren't battling; was it time to make friends? "Grooo~" she cooed, looking at the Roselia. She was very pretty! The color of her petals were so bright and vibrant, Grovyle couldn't help but almost tear up at the sight of them!

"Certainly," Kilik laughed as he took out his PokeDex and examined each one. As their data popped up on his screen, he could take note of each of their individual levels, "All of your Pokemon are of a much higher level than mine. Especially Chimchar here." The monkey's cheeks puffed out and he glared at Kilik. "I'm just playing!" He held his arm down a little and allowed Chimchar to climb up to his shoulder and sit happily against his cheek. "You have got some great Pokemon, Katie!"

"Oh, " had been Surge's reply to Kasiya's quick answer, and now the two of them were just sitting there, saying nothing. Kasiya was beginning to wonder if her father had forgotten that he was on the phone before he finally spoke again. "There's a reason why I'm calling, and a good one, too." He paused for a moment, and Kasiya was certain she could hear him thinking before he continued. "It's Raichu," he said finally. "He's… well, something's wrong, and I dunno what to do."

Kasiya's heart nearly stopped and she froze, her stomach tightening itself into a knot. "Um, well, did you take him to the Pokemon Center?" she asked. To most people, that would be the obvious first step, but her father didn't really think the way normal trainers did, so to her, it was a legitimate question.

"Yeah he's there now," the gym leader replied, his voice still uncharacteristically quiet. "The nurse, she don't know what's wrong with 'em."

In all the time she had known Surge, Kasiya was certain she'd never heard him sound so upset. Hearing the weakness and worry in his voice nearly made Kasiya start to cry, but she held it off, and pushed aside her worry for her own Raichu. "Did you want me to come home?" she asked suddenly, as she had realized there wasn't much she could do for her dear dad while she was so far away, in Hoenn. "I can hop the next ferry, or even fly there, if you want," she added, noting that once again, flying with Sirrus would be her quickest option. "Just say the word, Dad, and I'll be there."

The silence that followed was almost painfully loud, but Kasiya remained on the line, waiting patiently for her father to give her an answer. Finally, the burly gym leader answered, his voice barely above a hushed whisper. "Yeah, I'd like that."

Kasiya smiled gently. "I'll be there as soon as I can."

The call had barely ended and Kasiya was already sprinting toward the Pokemon Center, her hand gripping Fang's Pokeball tightly. She desperately wished she could rely on the Crobat to bring her safely from Hoenn to Kanto, but she really didn't feel like taking a dive into the ocean if the Crobat got bored or randomly felt like dumping her, as he had only a little while ago. She stepped into the Pokemon Center, noting quickly that the amount of waiting trainers had decreased significantly, and she walked over to the corner where the computer bay was. It took her a few tries to log in properly, as she kept misspelling her own name, but finally she entered it correctly and she initiated the Pokemon exchanging service. Despite her annoyance with her Crobat, she kissed the Pokeball anyway and set it in the tray, watching as it vanished, only to be replaced with Mai's Flygon a second or so later. "Back to Kanto we go," the girl murmured to herself as she stepped outside.

It was still difficult to see what had become of Starmie's Ice Beam, and as Misty peered into the haze in the water, it would soon become clear. The larger Pokemon shot out of the darkness like a red rocket, and even as Misty called for her Starmie to dodge, the Crawdaunt was far too quick. Both of Diemia's powerful claws slammed into Starmie's center, sending it spiraling back. It was still able to continue, thanks to the Recover it had used before, but there would be no time for that technique now.

"Quick, Starmie! Swift!" Misty called, the worry in her voice growing more intense. The star-shaped Pokemon began to spin, once again shooting off a sparkling volley of stars that sped toward the Crawdaunt, though they wouldn't have far to travel before finding their target.
PostPosted: Tue May 08, 2012 11:46 am

'Victory, I can almost taste it,' Riza thought, all doubt now erased from her mind. "Good hit, Diemia! Push through and let 'em have it again! Brick Break!" she called. The Crawdaunt felt as confident as her trainer did and she did just that, pushing forward despite all the shining stars smashing up against her hard shell. Once again her claws glowed brightly with the powerful fighting-type move, and she closed in on the Starmie as quickly as she could, preparing to strike.
* * * * *
The little Elekid continued to cling happily to his new best friend in all the world, watching with a little grin as his trainer released all of his teammates. "Bibii," he called, waving at Miles and Nell from his perch atop Cable. Nell waved back, her ears twitching curiously. She dropped her shy act and hopped over to where the two electric-types stood, but Miles wisely chose to remain behind, instead turning to focus on his trainer's new friend as he was introducing his Pokemon. The Buneary reached out with a fuzzy paw and gently poked at Cable's foot. "Bun?" she asked.

Katie had nearly been unable to hold back a laugh when she saw how her comment had embarrassed the taller boy. 'Heh, okay I gotta admit, I like this guy. He's fun, and kinda cute, too.' She kept her comments to herself, and smiled. "Thank you, Kilik," she said, very much glad that Kilik was impressed by her Pokemon. She nodded as he explained that he'd started a fresh journey here in Sinnoh, and that his stronger Pokemon weren't with him. 'He must have some amazing Pokemon,' she thought, only slightly jealous. After all, she'd only started her first journey a little while ago. Admittedly, she'd not been expecting to see that Kilik had a Chimchar, and she giggled upon seeing him, even though it stirred up a lot of memories of how things had been before the fire-type had evolved. Genki was more curious about the youngster than anything else and moved closer for a better look, his tail burning brightly. He missed the days when he was small enough to perch on Katie's shoulder, but he was glad he was bigger and stronger now so he could keep her safe.

She did laugh a bit when she saw the Drifloon, but only because she thought they were a very fun Pokemon. Kilik's was no exception to the rule and she waved at him after he'd returned the sphere to his trainer. No one was more delighted to see Grovyle than Seraphim, who was just as thrilled with her fellow grass-type. The Roselia moved closer to Grovyle and curtsied again, her way of saying hello. She especially liked Grovyle's long head leaf. Noa, meanwhile, had landed somewhat behind Katie and was still shooting glares at Genki, though she kept a careful eye on everything around her. She'd done a double take at the sight of Kilik's Chimchar, not an another annoying fire monkey!

Katie had taken out her Pokedex as well, and was more amazed than anything else to find her Pokemon's levels were higher than Kilik's (except for Cable of course!) and she realized he hadn't been kidding when he said he'd left his strongest behind. She closed her Pokedex and put it away, making her way through the all Pokemon that now surrounded them. "Thanks, Kilik," she said again, nodding to Drifloon and Grovyle. "You do too, and I can't wait to meet your other, other Pokemon." She held her hand out to Chimchar, smiling brightly. "Don't worry about what he says," she told the adorable little chimp. "From what I can tell, it won't be long before you evolve into a Monferno too, and you'll be just as tough as Genki." At her side, Genki nodded, giving the little fellow a thumbs up.

Ace and Robin didn't really have time to notice that they had escaped their ring because the grey energy ball was headed towards them. "Ace dodge it!" Robin ordered worried about her pokemon a bit. Ace wasn't the toughest pokemon, unlike Black*Star he couldn't just charge forward and take the hits. Robin didn't even need to order it though since Ace had the same idea and was all ready taking steps to do that. The Monferno kicked up a wall of flames as he darted off to the side. When he stopped he looked around and growled slightly when he saw the Cherrim had escaped the fire ring. In fact Ace had no idea where the flower pokemon was now. The flames and the torn up ring were not helping him for once and he couldn't find the enemy. That was not good at all.

Ok well, Dante was pretty sure that his luck had actually sort of worked for him? Well Dante wasn't quite sure what happened. The next thing he knew he was recalling Kenny and handing his pokeball to someone else while he was being escorted to the back. He frowned slightly as he was told to wait for the final round. So he won? He wasn't quite sure how that happened but he wasn't going to complain! Things were going to have to go better for him if he wanted to win the next round. He just hoped they changed the arena to something that wasn't super bouncy.

~~~~~~~
Rowan wasn't much for this so called, energy of youth. In fact, the more he was forced to listen to this kid talk the more he was starting to become convinced to start a campaign against it. The older man didn't even cast a glance Ken's way as he continued to talk. Why was he still here? He thought to himself as the kid just continued to talk about what seemed to be anything that crossed his mind. Rowan wondered what it would take to make the kid go away just so he could finish his paper and his coffee. He might be in a better mood to talk to him after that. Instead he figured he could just ignore the kid. Maybe he would get the hint then?
Cable was glancing down at all the smaller Pokemon. This must be what Aggron felt like all the time; just completely towering over anything and everyone. When the Buneary tapped his foot, he couldn't help but stifle a snicker as it somewhat tickled. He crouched a little and touched one of the fluffs on Nell's ear. "Viiire."
Chimchar tensed up a moment, gripping Kilik's ear as the girl approached the two of them. She was rather brave to make her way through the horde of Pokemon to come up to his bro like that! But then she started talking to him all...sweet-like. That was weird. "Chiii?" he glanced at the girl with a raised eyebrow then down at Genki. What did thumbs up mean? He returned the gesture, albeit very confused by its meaning and then noticed Katie was putting her hand out to him. He slowly reached out and then climbed along her arm and up to her shoulder. "Chiichaaa!" the chimp cooed, wrapping his arms around her neck and hugging.
Kilik looked rather confused. He'd never seen Chimchar act like that before; he was typically a jerk and liked to cause trouble. Perhaps it was because there was a Monferno there and he felt safe? Whatever the reason, it made Kilik smile. "My other Pokemon," he scratched the back of his head slightly, "are getting some well deserved and much needed rest..." he felt a twinge of pain in his arm and he winced slightly. "Though I suppose introducing them to you for a moment wouldn't bother them too much. Besides," his stomach began growling loudly, "I'm getting hungry. I guess that breakfast didn't tide me over much." He stretched his arms up a little and then started walking back towards Jubilife.
Grovyle gave a curtsy in response to Seraphim's and took one of the Roselia's roses into her hand. Her face just screamed "You are so beautiful!" Yet Master started walking away. Where was he going, why was he leaving?! She heard a slight grumble come from his stomach and started to giggle. Oh, Master! Always hungry! She motioned Seraphim to follow as she was sure Katie would be coming with him.
Drifloon hovered around Kilik's head and then over Katie's, then back to Kilik's and so on, making figure-8s as he did so. It sure was nice to have some company and he assumed Master enjoyed having company too. He floated down to the Buizel and stared at him a moment before wrapping his strings around the otter's arms and picking him up. It sure was nice to have company. No sense in staying away from everyone. He turned his eyes towards Noa, who was also being a little standoffish. Loosing one string from Miles (and wrapping the other around his waist), Drifloon extended a line to Noa and wrapped it around the bird's middle, now carrying both Pokemon with that blank expression on his face. All friends. Aaaall friends.
"So you said it won't be long until Chimchar evolves, right?" he asked the girl as he walked, "And Monferno is both Fire and Fighting? The first Gym in Sinnoh is a Rock Gym...so if I train a little longer, it should be a breeze. As long as I have Grovyle and a Monferno, that is." Kilik slid his hands into his pockets and glanced over at the orange haired girl (who Chimchar was still clinging to). It took a second to register how much taller he was than her - perhaps he just hadn't noticed. Again his stomach growled. Maybe I'm hungry because I still haven't gotten back all the energy I spent at the Magma base...hm. He hoped it wouldn't be too long before reaching the Center again.
Again Keegan wiped the back of his hand across his face, which was now smeared with blood, sweat and grime. He was definitely glad to see that everyone had come out of this in one piece, and he grit his teeth as Milo had once again taken control of Mike's body. Interestingly enough, the words the phantom spoke were eerily similar to the ones Keegan had said when he'd tried to warn Mike about Maxie's true intentions. Granted, he hadn't been that harsh, but the intent was still there. He sighed, and shook his head. Despite the truths Milo spoke, there was a lot of nonsense in there, too, and he stood up, standing between Flannery and Kasiya. The girls all seemed as though they'd finally had enough of Milo's crap, and he was glad. He'd had just about enough of Milo's ranting and raving.
He eyed the lake of magma that surrounded Mike and Maxie, and glanced at each girl as she'd released a Pokemon to help cool it. He had to admit that it was a solid plan and he quickly snatched up both Althena's and Shiva's PokeBalls and released the Golduck and Walrein respectively. The Water Guns and enhanced Gust didn't seem to be cooling everything down that fast and he considered just having his two Pokemon water it all down with a pair of Surf attacks. But, considering Mike's new 'condition', that wouldn't be a very safe plan as he wanted his friend to remain alive, so he pointed forward. "Althena, Shiva, help them out! Water Gun, solidify that magma!" The Golduck said nothing; she simply strode forward, planting her feet as she unleashed a jet of water. Shiva looked around, very much not a fan of all the heat and molten rock, but she too obeyed, shooting out a much wider spray of water. Keegan glanced over at Kilik, wondering if the black-haired boy had any Water-types as a hint of blue and yellow appeared out of the corner of his peripheral vision. Keegan smirked; it seemed that Themis had snuck back into the area. He raised his other hand and beckoned for the Manectric to come forward, and he did, trotting diligently to his trainer's side where he waited, static rolling across his body.
=====
Lee had been so focused on his Zangoose and Greg's Machoke that he hadn't immediately noticed that Krysta's Clefable had been taken down and been replaced with a Sandslash, at least until he saw the gaping hole left in the ground afterward. A frown creased his face as he realized the inevitable: if Sparkle were to be subjected to that Dig attack, she'd be KO'd for sure. He could always have Zangoose race in and take the hit instead, but that would mean the Machoke would have an opportunity to attack without obstacles. The young Rocket sighed, his mind made up. "Zangoose, get in there and cover Ampharos!" he called, motioning with his hand. The Cat Ferret Pokemon obeyed, despite the surprise it felt from the odd command. They had never really been team players, but orders were orders. In a flash of white and red, Zangoose had raced over and shoved Sparkle out of the way, just in time for the Ground-type to burst from the ground and tear into him with his claws. Sparkle, meanwhile, staggered a bit drunkenly after being pushed, but she quickly realized the Zangoose had saved her. Miharu was a bit slower on the uptake, but when her mind caught up, she smiled gratefully up at Lee. Lee smiled back. This would definitely help to bolster her trust in him. His plan was working.
The Machoke, meanwhile, had also been caught off guard by the sudden change in strategy, and it moved to chase after the Zangoose, fist raised high in a potential Brick Break. Since Leroy had just sacrificed his opportunity to attack the Fighting-type, and risk being attacked in return, Miharu decided it was time to repay the favor, and she pointed at the Machoke. "Sparkle, quick! Block it with your Thunderpunch!" the green-haired girl called. The Ampharos gave a nod and jumped in front of Zangoose, her flipper raised high and wreathed in electricity. The Machoke stood taller than the Ampharos so it had a slight advantage as their two attacks met, but that was all they could do. Neither Pokemon seemed to be able to push the other back or gain any ground whatsoever.
Sirrus seemed a lot more energetic now that he'd had a full night, and partial day's rest, as well as several good meals, and the Flygon emitted a happy squeal when Kasiya released him and climbed on his back. "Good to see you too, Sirrus," the girl said, patting the dragonfly's scaly neck. "I need you to bring me back to Kanto, if you don't mind." Of course, the kindly Flygon didn't mind at all and with a quick flap of his wings, he and his trainer were airborne. Sirrus' sense of direction was rather keen and it wasn't until they'd been in the air about twenty minutes before she realized they were indeed heading in the right direction. "I hate to say it, but Mai has trained you well," the girl said, keeping her head down as they raced through the sky, the sparkling blue ocean below them. Sirrus chirped in reply, nodding fondly at the memory of his actual trainer. Sure, she'd always been hard on him, but she'd always cared about him, and all of her Pokemon.
Flying was a very Zen-like activity for Kasiya, and soon the movement from the Flygon's body, as well as the rushing wind past her ears, had sent her into a dreamy, almost trance-like state. She opened her eyes to find herself walking along a warm, sunny beach, a glowing, golden sunset on the horizon, and many familiar voices around her. She felt something cool bump up against the calf of her leg, and she looked down to find a tiny Mudkip playfully nudging her with its head. Smiling, she knelt down to pick her up, unable to suppress a giggle as the small Mud Fish Pokemon licked her nose. "Levi," she said, nuzzling the young Pokemon before setting her down again, and it was at that point Kasiya knew where she was. "I know this," she murmured, looking down at herself, and all around her. She was wearing her emerald-green one piece swimsuit, the one she'd left behind on Cinnabar Island before she and Keegan had made their return journey to Lavaridge. That part alone was enough to identify her location, and time. "This memory," she sighed, closing her eyes and taking in the smell of the ocean and beach around them, and she looked back along the white, sandy beach to see her adoring redhead resting comfortably on a beach towel, hiding from the sun's rays beneath a large umbrella. As she watched him, Keegan looked up and smiled at her, and her heart skipped a beat as she smiled back.
She could hear splashing nearby, and she looked to see Ariel and Shocker romping around playfully in the shallows, splashing each other and playing a game of water-tag, which the Vaporeon had a clear advantage in. The girl smiled, knowing well that this was one of her favourite memories, and she'd give anything to go back there, when everything was still normal and good. She knew better, however, and Kasiya sighed, looking down at the wet sand as Levi had begun to dig a hole in the sand. "We can't go back," she said sadly. "Nothing will ever be the same again. It can't be."
The reality of it all hit her like a Focus Punch to the stomach and she groaned, opening her eyes to find that her cheeks were streaked with mostly-dried tears. The warmth of the sun was gone, as was her feeling of happiness, and the empty hole that was left behind felt worse than before. The girl sniffled and clung tightly to the Flygon, who shifted slightly and craned his neck to look at her. He could feel her tears splashing against his scales and he cooed, quickly glancing down and starting to descend. It wasn't until the Flygon had touched down on what could hardly be called an island as it more resembled a small rocky plateau which was slightly smaller than about ten feet wide and long. Kasiya hadn't noticed that they'd stopped flying right away, at least until Sirrus nuzzled her with his scaly nose. Blinking, Kasiya loosened her grip on the dragon and lifted her head, looking around. No matter which direction she looked, all she could see was a vast blue. It was nearly impossible for her to even tell where the ocean ended, and the sky began as it was all a mass of blue.
Misty let out a little cry, watching as the powerful Crawdaunt swam through Starmie's Swift, shrugging off the damage, and then once again smashed her claws into the Water-type. The hit sent Starmie spiraling back once again, and this time it crashed into the far wall of the pool, just beneath Misty's feet. It slumped to the bottom of the pool, core gem now blinking rapidly to signify that its energy had nearly run out. Misty hung her head; she knew it was all over. "Well, that's it," she said, holding up Starmie's Pokeball and recalling it. "You were great, Starmie, rest up now." The redhead sighed, and stretched her arms a bit before she looked over at Riza, pushing aside her disappointment to make room for pride. If she had to lose a match, she'd rather lose to a Water-type.
"You did it, Riza, you won! Congratulations!" she said, clapping her hands. A Psyduck wandered out to the poolside, holding up a box the colour of the ocean. Misty accepted it and thanked the Pokemon, who waddled away, holding its head in its hands. Misty walked quickly over to the other side of the pool, and opened the lid before she presented it to the raven-haired girl. "You've earned these! Your winnings! My coveted Cascade Badge, my favourite TM, Water Pulse, and of course, money! Everyone likes money. And if they don't, they're lying!" She giggled a little at her own comment, but continued to offer the box to Riza. "Go on, take it!"
For a moment Riza just stood there, staring into the pool even after Misty had recalled her Starmie. Diemia swam back to Riza's side and climbed out of the water, not bothering to look back. She'd won the battle, there was no need to gloat about it. The Crawdaunt bumped a claw against Riza's hip and the raven haired girl held up the poke ball and recalled her. "Uh, you were awesome, Diemia, thanks for battling with me," she said, still a bit uncertain as she put the ball back on her belt. This win felt a little different than her one against Surge had, and she turned to look over at Misty as a Psyduck had been summoned to give her something. The bikini clad girl sighed, and tucked a stray lock of hair back behind her ear. "Oh, wow," she said, looking down at the box as she was presented with her winnings, and she let out a little cry when she saw the badge was shaped like a droplet of water. "The engraving on my ribbon," she murmured, "it's the Cascade Badge!" She sighed and closed her eyes, and smiled, her moment of quiet happiness interrupted by Misty's money remark, and she laughed out loud. "Yes, you're definitely right about that," she said, accepting the blue box. "Thank you, Misty. For the badge, and the battle. I learned much about water-type Pokemon." She offered her hand to shake, and then turned to where Crenu waited in the bleachers, and waved. "So, what'd you think?" she called, unable to keep the smile from her face.
The Buneary cheered and hopped up and down, a tiny bit of static having flown from the Electivire's hand to her ear. It tingled a little, her fur puffing out a bit and she looked up at Kord again, her eyes wide and imploring. It seemed she wanted to ride up on Cable's shoulders too, why should little Kord have all the fun? Kord looked down at his teammate and waved again, inviting her up. He chatted to his Electivire big buddy, letting him know that Nell was a good friend of his.
The Monferno tensed slightly as the Chimchar did, obviously wary of his Katie's approach. Regardless of how young the chimp was, Genki wouldn't let anyone or anything hurt his trainer. He relaxed when Chimchar seemed to realize they were all friends here, though the Monferno did pout slightly when the chimp climbed along Katie's arm and up onto her shoulder. He sure missed those days. Katie, meanwhile, giggled a bit at the sudden change in Chimchar's attitude, and she ruffled the tuft of fur on the top of his head, glancing at Kilik as he appeared to be confused, and she shrugged, still smiling. "He's a spirited little guy, that's for sure." She didn't miss the growling of Kilik's stomach, and her own decided to echo a bit of a rumble, and she placed her free hand on it. Her odd morning hadn't given her a chance to get breakfast and she nodded. "Yeah, me too. I guess I forgot to eat this morning."
The Roselia blushed slightly, having never met a Pokemon quite like Grovyle before. Seraphim quickly realized she was hungry too and tottered after Grovyle with her dainty little steps. Miles, meanwhile, stared back at the strange balloon Pokemon, a little unsure of what to make of it. "B-bui?" he cried as the Drifloon had suddenly lifted him off the ground, and he looked around, eyes wide. His cries had certainly caught Noa's attention and she watched as the balloon Pokemon drifted closer to her. She gave an inquisitive little chirp as one of the Drifloon's strings snaked around her middle, but she didn't fight it as she was then hauled up alongside Miles. "Bui?" the Buizel asked, and Noa nodded. Forgetting his fears, the Buizel decided to go with it, holding his arms out like a bird's wings, and he began to spin his twin tails. "B-b-b-b-b-b-b-b-bui! B-b-b-b-b-b-b-b-b-bui!" he called, imitating the sound of a propeller. Noa didn't seem to mind the little trip either, though they weren't flying nearly as fast as she liked.
Katie laughed again at the sight of the Pokemon playing together, and she continued to pet and cuddle the Chimchar that was still clinging to her. "I think so," she said, nodding. "Chimchar evolve a little sooner to their second stage than most starting Pokemon. It's probably their fiery personalities," she added, giving Chimchar a tickle. She nodded again as Kilik went over his strategy for Roark's gym. "Yes, I think you'll be just fine, but don't underestimate Roark. He's much tougher than he appears to be." Sure, she had won her match with the gym leader, but it hadn't been easy, even with the type advantage. She smiled at the memory of the battle. It had been a good one. She looked up at Kilik and smiled again, the height difference between them not really bothering her as they made their way back to Jubilife. They hadn't gone very far, so it shouldn't take too long.
'That Monferno is certainly something else,' Gardenia thought, undeterred by the wall of flames the fire-type had created. It also seemed as though Ace no longer knew where her Cherrim was. She had an opening to attack, but another idea came to mind. "Cherrim, use Sunny Day," she called. The flower bud nodded and hopped in a small circle, and suddenly overhead, the lights grew brighter and the atmosphere became much warmer. The flames that Ace had created also intensified, making it harder to see anything. The strong sunlight also caused Cherrim to shift, and soon it had changed from its Overcast form to its Sunshine form, and now appeared as a beautiful flower Pokemon with pink petals. Gardenia wondered if Robin and her Monferno would be surprised by Cherrim's sudden change in appearance.
[Magma-Time Line]
The boy looked on as Milo started speaking through Mike, his face a blank slate. Kilik stood up as Sasha did, watching as the trainers around him all began to toss out Water-type Pokemon. A Swampert from Kasiya, Lanturn from Sasha (which Kilik suddenly found himself very jealous of), and a Golduck and Walrein from Keegan. "Well, this certainly is..." he stretched, "a predicament. Wait, I got it!" He fumbled around his belt and grabbed a Great Ball, tossing out none other than his mighty Aggron. "Notice how they're cooling the lava, Aggron?" Kilik pointed at the others, "Toss that pile of rocks on top of the magma!" There were plenty of large boulders to choose from after the Solarbeam powered explosion.
With a powerful roar, Aggron stomped forward and began hurling rock after rock into the pool of magma. Certainly not the most effective way, but it would provide enough of a banking for the trainers to cross. "Agg...ron! Agg...ron!" Like a truck, he continued to work and lift, dropping the rocks on top of what was already in process of solidifying.
Kilik held his arm against his chest, wincing a little bit. Somehow, he had missed the searing pain amidst the ruckus and only now was it beginning to sting. Must have hurt it when I hit that back wall protecting Flareon... he stepped forward slowly, waiting on the edge as rocks and jets of water hurled passed him, holding his balance firmly against Tropius' gusts. "We're coming, Mike," he whispered to himself, clenching his fist and looking up.
Cable reached down and with one mighty swoop, managed to pick up the Buneary and place her on his shoulder. She was quite a soft little creature, and very cute as well. A cute Pokemon to compliment a pretty girl!
"Fair enough," he responded to her warning about Roark, "Though if push comes to shove, I could just use ol' Cable back there and sweep up the competition no problem!" Before he knew it, they were already walking back into the Pokemon Center. However, before going inside, he recalled his three Pokemon, telling them they'd come out to play momentarily. Cable, on the other hand, was free to stick around. Again, Kilik's stomach growled loudly as he headed towards the computer. "This will only take a second, guys." The boy placed his three spheres into the slot, watching as their little icons appeared on the screen.
"Now lets see..." Kilik glanced at the computer, dragging and dropping icons of his Pokemon to his party. "Flareooon...Aaand Scizor..." he scratched his nose as he clicked various buttons and typed in a few bits of information. "And theeese two...can't forget him!" Once the five icons were ready to go, he clicked 'Withdraw' and all five of their Pokeballs appeared before him. Technology sure was fantastic. He turned to Katie as he clipped the balls to his belt. Then his stomach groaned, that feeling where it was ready to eat itself. He laughed and scratched the back of his head. "Let's eat first, then make introductions to the rest of my Pokemon!" He smiled at the girl and then made way for the cafeteria, stomach roaring at him.
"Eleheheh!" the Electivire chuckled, taking Kord and Nell from his shoulders and setting them next to their trainer; it was time to eat! Cable stomped forward to follow Kilik, practically as excited to eat as his trainer was. Together, the two of them filled up trays with sandwiches and pizzas, cookies and donuts, and even a few cups of soup. The Pokemon and his trainer had gathered enough food between the two of them to feed a small army of trainers.
"Aaah!" Kilik licked his lips, taking up a sandwich into his hands. "Ruba-dub-dub, let's have some grub!" He bit into it and practically swallowed the bite whole. Who had time to chew? There was a mountain of food to be had!
“So! You need to practice hitting a moving target, since we’re about to make a move on the Azalea Gym. I assume you’ve got no problem with that argument?” Scarlet asked, face suddenly as serious as a heart attack. Terumi watched his trainer with narrowed eyes for a moment before turning his gaze toward the flaming ferret standing beside him. So, he’d finally get his revenge on that smug little rat for causing him to have to work at the whims of his idiotic trainer. His sudden grin betrayed his intentions.
But the Quilava was far from intimidated. No, she was excited. The patches of flame on her body flared up as she glared right back, an equally bloodthirsty smirk playing across her face. Cindy never did trust that malicious ball of gas Scarlet recruited for their gym smashing squadron. It needed to be put in its place. She didn’t care at all what move it magically learned from some disc. It was going down for the count.
Scarlet could feel the electricity in the air, and he definitely didn’t like it. “Hey, you two. You’re part of a team, you know. You totally aren’t going to be fighting today.” The scowl the two pokemon shot him simultaneously was so intense that if he didn’t know any better, he’d have thought they were going to attack him. Thankfully, he wasn’t far off, because a sludge bomb would’ve been a special kind of painful. Instead, Cindy backed away, utterly confused. Moving target, but nothing to fight? What, was Scarlet going to fight Terumi himself? The Quilava knew he was crazy, but she never dreamed he was stupid. Terumi just floated there, scowling, waiting for the redhead to reveal his grand idiot plan.
“You’re fighting Halibel, Terumi.” Scarlet released the Magikarp in a flash. The red fish lay on the ground, black dot of a pupil darting about toward the group of three.
Cindy just stared at Scarlet. Sure, she trusted him, but she literally couldn’t comprehend why any part of this was a good idea. Her jaw hung open, while the ghost type tilted his head/body/aura thing back and had a hearty laugh. The Quilava darted in front of the defenseless fish, baring fangs at that horrible ball of malevolence Scarlet seemed intent on making even stronger.
“Hey, back off, Cindy. Halibel, you’re gonna be dodging Terumi’s attacks. Can you do that for me?” Scarlet knelt down beside the Magikarp, and for a moment, the two stared into each other’s eyes. “One for yes, two for no.”
Halibel laid motionless on the ground before the solitary visible black dot on her eye locked onto that cackling Gastly. “… Karp.”
Kressen’s Charmander was most certainly a difficult pokemon. Not that Alex could blame him. She could only imagine the fits Roll would throw if something were to ever happen to her. She let out a sigh of relief when the little guy finally stopped crying again. The normally gregarious Larvitar uncovered her ears and peeked from behind Alex, finding her old new friend had finally calmed down, and hey, even better, the excited artist girl was handing out cookies
Roll and Alex very eagerly accepted the cookies they were offered, one because sugary, chocolaty sweets were the most awesome things in the history of ever, the other because she forgot that eating food was necessary for survival.
“Thank you,” Alex grinned between chews, Roll nodding in agreement. She looked over at the depressed Charmander, who was most fervently refusing the politely offered treat. “Sorry about him,” she said, looking a little sadly at the poor thing. “His trainer just- oh boy.”
Again, it started crying. Thankfully this time, a hand on its shoulder calmed it down. Kressen and Charmander’s reunion was a touching one, putting a huge smile on the blonde’s face. Roll giggled, clapping happily, mostly because the pair was back together, (but more than a little due to the fact that he hopefully wouldn’t cry anymore.) “Well, his trainer waswith the nurses, but I guess he’s fine now!”
Needless to say, the Buneary was thrilled to be riding with the mighty Electivire and she held her head high, quite elated to be able to look down on everything for once. The only thing that made her mildly jealous was seeing how Drifloon had picked up Miles and Noa and was flying them around, and the Buneary huffed, didn't the Staravia already know how to fly?
Katie smirked at Kilik's comment, not sure how well Roark would handle that. "You could if you wanted to, I mean, it is up to you." It really hadn't taken them long to get back to the center, and Katie recalled all her Pokemon save for Nell, as she'd noticed the Buneary's pouting and had picked her up. She watched Kilik head for the computer off in another area of the lobby so she decided to wait for him, browsing through the magazines that sat piled on one of the small tables. She idly wondered if she'd ever have more than six Pokemon and would need to use the Pokemon storage system on the computers as she picked up an older copy of Jubilife Fashion and grinned at it, as her mother was smiling at her from the front page. She nodded to the woman who's fashionably short orange hair exactly matched the shade of Katie's. "That's my mom," she told the Buneary, and Nell nodded in approval. She looked over as Kilik had finished, and her heart raced with anticipation of seeing his other, stronger Pokemon (and maybe a bit of something more) as he made his way back over to her. "Oh, okay," she said, her voice a tad disappointed, but she knew she needed to feed her Pokemon, as well.
While Kilik and Cable piled food onto trays, Katie quickly fixed six bowls of food for her party. It was relatively easy to do as they were all still fairly small (with Genki and Noa being the largest two, which didn't say much) and then she grabbed food for herself once her She settled on a nice warm stack of buttermilk pancakes drizzled with real maple syrup and a bowl of freshly sliced fruit, including pecha berries, which were her favourite. After she'd filled up a tall glass of orange juice she brought her own breakfast over to the table and sat in the seat across from the tall trainer, giggling slightly as he dug into his food. "Don't eat too slowly or we'll be here forever," she teased, carefully cutting her pancakes into bite-sized pieces before sampling some. They were really quite delicious.
During the entire match, Crenu had remained still as stone. With the right outfit on one might have just assumed him part of the wall, but while he did not move or make a sound he watched intently as the match unfolded. Things started off in Riza's favor and she had a good lead, but the underwhelming looking Quagsire, a pokemon from the Johto region, turned things about. When the final pokemon came into the arena Crenu was on the edge of his seat, and watching closer than ever. If Starmi had learned Thunderbolt or something of the like this match could have been rather one sided, but luckily it seemed this was not the case as Misty hadn't called for an electric move all match. Riza did well until confusion set in on Diema and Starmi recovered lost stamina, but with a display of pure power the lobster came back and managed to knock the starfish back down finally, and Crenu smiled a little. During the match he could see Riza looking at him in what seemed desperation as things looked bad, and he had to resist the urge to help her. He had some ideas, not many though in the grim situation, but for her sake he had to let her do this alone. Contest battles were one thing, and she needed to through the same confidence she'd gained the night before on this gym battle. And all was well, for she was able to pull out the victory in the end. Crenu got up from his seat and vaulted over the rest of the bleachers, making his way over to the raven haired beauty slowly. "I think you did well. Congratulations." He shot a glance at Misty, considering battling her himself, but he had other gym leaders on the brain and dismissed it. More importantly, he looked at Riza wearing the bikini he hadn't seen since the beach party, and though he tried hiding it he enjoyed seeing her in it. Even Crenu was still just a man after all.
"Oh come on professor don't be so mean." Ken said with a sigh as he watched the man read his paper and ignore him further. This was going no where, the Breeman family charm had no effect! This called for drastic measures. Ken was going to have to...tone down the fabulous! The idea shook him to the core, but it was for a friend. Ken's expression turned to that of a serious face, almost frowning but not quite. He walked around and sat down across from Rowan, arms folded before him. He cleared his throat, and spoke softer, his voice more monotone and calm, though deeper than how he was speaking before. "Ok professor, sorry to barge in here. Sorry to bother you, but this is a matter of life and death. And I'm not being dramatic. While I really would enjoy hearing about anything research related, I'm going to cut to the chase and tell you why I'm really here. Off the shores of Kanto there was an accident, an incident involving a ship, and an important person went missing as a result of it. His name is Jaeshan Edward Devereaux, son of a wealthy family. But his money and status are not what make him important, and it's not why I'm here. He is also my friend, and I'm worried as are many others. His body was not found and he was pronounced dead, lost at sea. I owe it to him to at least look, however slim the chance may be that he is alive out there somewhere, and I got a lead. A young man with spiky blond hair, on the darker side of blond I'd say, was spotted washed up on the shores of Sandgem. Now that could be anyone sure, the odds of it being my friend are low...but I just had to check. And I know that if anything went down in Sandgem, you'd be the man to talk to. So please forgive me for not being cordial at first but I really do need answers. Even if it's not him I need to know to turn my focus elsewhere. He's kinda tall too, young. Real nice guy. Anyone like that show up? Anything at all, please Professor."
Having always enjoyed the hustle and bustle of Goldenrod whenever her mother ever favored a visit, Amy found it easier to weave through the crowds and avoid the feeling of claustrophobia, despite being bumped into several times in their journey thus far. Everyone had somewhere to be, she supposed; after all, they did. The brunette began to grow used to the constant noise of the city, something that just reminded her of Beedrill hives back home. She took sips from her water at constant intervals, since the crowd of people pressing in on her during a summer day did nothing to help with the heat. By the time they had reached the city's outskirts, she was recycling her bottle as well, hoping it would last her the rest of the trip. Vermilion wouldn't be that far, right?
"I'm not sure," she said truthfully, the idea of catching another Pokemon not having occurred to her yet. After all, she had just gotten Lee, but she wanted to make her team strong... and no one was exactly stopping her, right? "I suppose whatever strikes me next, you know? I don't really have a type preference right now. I might just check out these routes and see what they have to offer." She mulled over the thought, wondering what other wild Pokemon roamed the tall grasses of the paths they'd cross. "What about you, Karrigan? You're so close to having a full team; do you know what you want to complete it?"
Jade stared at the map, eyes narrowing at the specific locations. She was sure that anywhere they'd go, she could find something to help her get her first badge in this region. Or, at least try to. Aquarius would not be very helpful in a Grass-type gym, but Solaris would be right at home there and she was sure to find some other Pokemon wherever they went. Almost promising to herself to make her team stronger, Jade looked up at Jake and looked at the route ahead, lips pursing in thought.
"Yeah, we can go that way," she agreed after a moment, beginning to walk in that general direction. Almost an after-thought, she began to reach for Solaris' Pokeball, to release the little fox so she could enjoy the outside, but then she decided last minute to switch and brought her Psyduck out to walk with them. Jade still wanted to bond with the duck, and she figured he could use some more time outside of that dark, dank cave anyhow. The Water-type looked up at his trainer and began to waddle behind her shortly after. "Are you going to catch something before we head to Eterna?" Jade asked casually, trying to avoid more personal questions. That was a two way street, and she didn't feel like answering yet.
Jett knew that if Aerosmith fell asleep now, the entire battle might just as well end right there and then. But, luckily enough for him, the butterfly quickly recognized the attack and swerved out of the way, his flight pattern becoming suddenly showy, with aerial flips and twists, as if to distract himself from any drowsiness he might've had. And he could practically feel the smugness radiating off of that owl, who simply hooted in response and swooped forward for a Peck attack. However, she seemed to stop in midair, eyes dangerously wide, a half-hoot escaping her beak. Paralyzation had struck true, leaving the owl defenseless as Aerosmith swept in for another Mega Drain.
You better watch out, Bugsy, Jett thought with an uncharacteristic surge of confidence, beaming as he watched his two Pokemon battle. They seemed on par with each other, and both were using clever strategies to keep up in the battle. He wouldn't fail again, not like his battle with Roxanne. As he watched the Butterfly Pokemon absorb energy from Athena, he grinned. "You're doing a really great job, guys!" Jett called, glancing over at his friend across from the training yard. Scarlet seemed to be practicing with Terumi and his newest Magikarp, scarily determined. Jett glanced back up at his own Pokemon in the sky, thoughts drifting off to Jasper and how the bandana-clad boy was faring right now.
"Mmm, I'm sure you have battled plenty," the young woman said, her tone somewhat dreamy. "Myself, I don't battle much, so I tend to remember my matches. I certainly remember you and your feisty little Vulpix. But of course, I don't hold it against you if you don't remember me."
Keegan blinked, his arms folded across his chest. Okay, so she knew he had a Vulpix at one point, but that didn't mean a lot. In his travels with Helios before their separation and the Ninetales' evolution, the fox often stayed out of his PokeBall. The redhead closed his eyes, ignoring the light throbbing of his head. It seemed to emanate from the cut just above his eye from where the rock had hit him yesterday, and he sighed, wondering if there'd ever be a time where he wasn't recovering from some sort of injury. He scratched his head and then was suddenly reaching for his PokeNav, as something clicked in the back of his mind. He opened his address book and tried to pretend like Kasiya's name and number didn't top the list, trumping even his own parents' number, as he scrolled through the various names. There were a few that he didn't quite recognize, but as he looked up at the pretty, smiling young lady, maybe he did remember her. "Um, Cindy?" he asked a bit tentatively, hoping he didn't get her name wrong and offender her. He'd had enough of being other peoples' punching bag lately.
The young woman seemed pleased, and she giggled, and clapped her gloved hands. "Yes, that's me," she said cheerfully, taking a step forward. "I think it was pretty much this very spot where we first met, and your little Vulpix battled against my sweet little Zizagoon."
"And then it evolved afterwards," the redhead finished, now remembering fully. "Yes, I remember. We really lost that one," he added a bit ruefully. It was no wonder he hadn't gone out of his way to remember Cindy or her now-Linoone; the 'battle' hadn't lasted more than maybe twenty seconds with Helios succumbing quickly to a powerful Headbutt from the Zigzagoon, and the redhead idly wondered if the fox recalled that match and held a grudge. Probably, as it was Helios, after all.
"Yes, yes, that is correct," Cindy nodded. "Now, I was going to ask you if you wanted to have another battle with me, but you seem like you're in a hurry, so I don't think I will." She continued to smiled at the Growlithe at Keegan's side, despite the fact that Eithne still growled at her.
=====
"I think it's time to end this," Leroy said, glancing at Miharu and smiling somewhat sweetly. "Zangoose, take down that overgrown rat with your Crush Claw." The boy's voice was firm and authoritative, and the Cat Ferret Pokemon raced into action. Its dangerously long claws seemingly elongating and shimmering with power. It ducked an attempted claw attack from the Sandslash and jumped up, slashing downward in two diagonal motions, creating a quick X-pattern on its belly. The attack was too much for it and it toppled over backwards before being recalled by Krysta, who stared at Greg with wide eyes, begging him to win this for them.
"I agree, we have places to go," Miharu said, pointing at the Ampharos and Machoke, both of whom were still deadlocked in their struggle to overcome the other. "Sparkle, blow it away with your Thunderbolt," the green-haired girl called decisively. Sparkle nodded, still pushing her flipper back against Machoke's fist with all her might, though she gave in some in order to generate the energy needed to perform her attack. Her target was squarely in front of her so she virtually couldn't miss, and the Ampharos panted heavily after it was all over, plodding dutifully back to Miharu's side as her foe was also recalled. The young couple exchanged glances, glared at Miharu and Leroy and then ran off, presumably to get their Pokemon healed and lick their own wounds. Miharu hugged Sparkle, and then recalled her to her PokeBall for a well-deserved rest before she turned to Lee. "Well, that went okay," she said, her spirits higher than they had been in quite some time.
Lee didn't bother to thank his Zangoose; he simply gave a nod and returned it as well, though he couldn't help but smile back at Miharu. "Yes, it did. You handled that battle much better than I did, however."
"Sparkle could have been hurt if your Zangoose hadn't protected her from that Dig. You're a much better battler than you give yourself credit for. So, thank you." She smiled again and patted his arm, and the two of them continued to make their way through the park, now approaching the far exit.
