Alec poked through the offered snacks, not wanting to turn up his nose to any of it although his hopes of finding at least some beef jerky had been promptly shot down. Then again from what he could recall, pigs shouldn't really eat beef anyways. He certainly couldn't expect her to eat bacon either. Picking out some berries and a few random nuts, he popped them into his mouth and chewed them awkwardly into a mush that resembled some sort of trail mix. "S'good." He commented quietly in thanks.

"S'been nice n' quie' recently, ay? A'm glad neh ruccus 'as been realleh goin down." The sharkboy glanced out at the lake and suddenly hoped he hadn't made an inaccurate observation. It was possible he'd missed things going on since he'd pretty much been in seclusion the past few days, save for the occasional visitor.

Nita selected some of the nuts and fruit, avoiding the mushrooms with a brief wrinkling of her nose. "I had some of these earlier," she told Bobby, indicating some of the brightly-colored berries. "They were growing by the tree I was hanging out in." She grinned.

"Mostly pretty quiet," Nita agreed. "Except I keep running into new people." The red panda girl made a face, the very tip of her tail twitching slightly. "That's always fun," she said drily.

Bobby noticed the small looks of displeasure on both faces at specific types of snacks she brought. The woman smiled and seemed to roll her eyes emphatically as if they were whining children. "Well, you don't have to like /all/ of them you know. I'll eat whatever's left over," she chuckled and grabbed a handfull of the untouched mushrooms. They were one of her favorite foods recently.

"As far as I know, it's been quiet. But, I don't know a large number of people here." Bobby added some berries to the mushrooms in her mouth. "Of course, I am sure some people's personal lives can get pretty entertaining around here," she winked as if she knew some of the gossip. Of course, she didn't; but the hope was maybe one of them would.

Alec shook his head at Bobby, picking out some more berries and nuts, even throwing in a few mushrooms. At this point he'd eat anything. "Girls n' gossip." He snorted, poking fun at the fact that he was surrounded by them at the moment. He could never figure out what was so great about spreading rumors anyways.

"Ahhh, break'n in th'youngins." The teen sighed at Nita's disdainful comment, both amused and annoyed as well. He hated having to explain the 'story' and trying to convince people, thankful he'd only had to a couple of times to date. With his new looks, he couldn't tell if it'd be more or less difficult of a chore.

Nita snickered, her mouth full of some rather tasty nuts. Although they could use some salt, she decided. "Hmm," she muttered. "I seem to have to do that whole explaining bit an awful lot."

Of course, telling people the truth, as well as trying to reassure them, was actually a bit of a good thing. Not that she particularly enjoyed it, but it was close enough to fulfilling her promise to Moreau. People really could be happy on the island, if they'd let themselves be.

"Other than that, though, I read a lot," she tilted her chin at the book setting next to her, "And watch movies. Along with general wandering."

Bobby seemed to tsk, for it seemed these two did not have a great deal of gossip to indulge her with. Oh well, the company was still better than previously -which was none. For awhile, the woman just reveled in the fact that she was spending time with people. She was contented.

"What kind of books do you read, Nita?" she asked, looking over her hooves that were trying to lodge as much food in her mouth as physically possible.

"Books a' borin'." Alec piped up to add his rather negative comment to the bunch. The teen seemed to had had his fill of the snack, seeing as he now was seen leaning back to balance percariously on the lowest fin on his back. He apparently couldn't see the enjoyment in enjoying something that wasn't real. Books could very well be made of lies and he'd rather put his time into something tangible.

Like drumming or swimming.

Nita rolled her eyes at Alec and tossed a mushroom at his head. Hiding a grin, she turned back to Bobby. "As much as you might think this place would completely turn me off of science fiction and fantasy, that's mostly what I read. I've been through all of what I brought from home, though, and most of what's in the entertainment room."

She leaned back on her elbows, idly reaching for a handful of berries.

Bobby stuck her tongue out at Alec, "They're only boring if you don't understand them." She had had that conversation many many times.

The mushroom flew, "Aww.... maybe I wanted to /eat/ that!"

Turning to Nita, she smiled gently, "I'd understand that, but there are many more sci-fi and fantasy books out there than just having to do with advanced things like... this." Bobby honestly had no idea what to call it.

Alec blandly frowned as the fungal bit bounced off his grey head and rolled off his snout. Wha twas so great about books anyways? The conversation was quickly losing it's luster, and soon the rowdy teenager began to fall victim to his limited attention span as his grey eyes wandered off, obviously tuning them out. He was used to the excuse that was commonly thrown at him, he just didn't like something because he didn't "understand" it. Although most of the time it was true, it got to be a little irritating.

Rubbery finger flicked at the water's surface, sending ripples through the dark black medium he was still partially emersed in. Shifting his weight, he felt a tightness in the skin across his shoulders as the sun had evaporated the slimey moisture that was usually present. Without thinking, he went ahead and splashed a handful of water on himself despite the close proximity to the girls.

Nita reclaimed the well-travelled mushroom and handed it over to Bobby. "Ten-second rule," she said, nodding her head solemnly.

"True," she replied. "But I did read the entire Animorphs series, back in middle- and high school. I always thought it would be so neat to be able to turn into an animal." Nita shrugged one shoulder in a self-deprecating gesture.

She paused for a moment to flick a few drops of water off of her arm, debating whether or not to continue her thought. "Although, it kinda is, in a way," Nita finally offered.
