I can't see the image for some reason, but the link made me giggle because my parents own a timeshare with the Fairmont Hotel chain.

Your avi looks great to me, no reason to change it smile
I did think the checkmate items would be good for the setting~

I can't see it either whee Wonder what I did wrong. Oh and thank you! The only reason I used it was to match the color on the top. He has the clothing on because he fears people will be able to tell his age. but I guess his height would give that away 3nodding

Now that I've (mostly) caught up I will add my cents to what's been discussed (minus the streaking since no one here needs to go blind.)

I was thinking English middle-ages, emphasis on the middle ages. About 15th century or so. At least in terms of clothing, culture, architecture, etc.

For characters I do prefer the names to be less personal because it would make the hosts and co-hosts more 'god-like' in their setting. For example, if the Boy King was without a name then people would simply refer to him as "your Majesty" or "King" for simplicity sake. Same as the Queen. The Prince of Thieves could be either 'the Prince' or some other nickname for his position... but in the end it is your personal preference for your own characters that is most important. If you'd like to have a name for your character then by all means, have a name.

For setting, I had imagined the interior of the castle (rooms for privacy and the main audience chamber for wining/dining), the courtyard and gardens, and the base of the Isthmus (which could be anything if we don't go with Isthmus) as the tourney grounds. I was hoping that the tournament would be the major part of our setting since it's not something I remember having been done at a ball before.

Plus, tournament grounds are usually supplied with anything we'd need for a party anyways, plus the additional grounds in case people want to wander.

We may need to begin focusing more on one thing at a time so we can sort through all these wonderful ideas that have been supplied! If we want to iron out the setting first, then let's hear from everyone what they'd been imagining for the INterior of the castle...

things like, color scheme (because royal houses are big on banners and sigils), what sorts of decor, and how large?

Also, Spotted, I was thinking there should be some conflict between our characters for a more rounded plot, so let's flesh out ideas of personality of the two at some point.

Perfect! *refers to the time period* The 15th centure it early- or mid-Renaissance and right in the beginning of the Robin Hood ledgend.

As for names, I'm all for having no names as much as I would like names... 50/50. If we do no names, they could call the Boy King, "King" (or something else, whatever you want Barrel) and la Queen will go by "Her High Majesty" or "Dear Queen" something or other. For the Prince and his posse, I'll leave it up to you. We have at least one more slot each, and I stake claim to Aromtic Anicakes! I think she might be able to fill in the lady-in-waiting or a servent, playmate, etc, etc...

The garden should be the Queen's main hangout-like area. As for the conflict, I think we should go with the Prince kidnaping the Queen and maybe getting sucked into another room, (Angel's?) leaving the co-hosts to deal. And the colours I would like it to be purple and gold. Partly because they are very royal colours, and partly because I'm selfish and that's what I based the Queen on... XD

As for my possible avatar, I was think about an outline such as this:

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

And banners, there's 2 I made on paint about 5 minutes ago, with the purple/gold colour scheme:

Thank you for your concern, but I would feel really bad if I was the one to waste your gold/money that you used to get the gold... Anyway, I got the blush, and it's pretty easy to get the rest of the gold! ^^

Yeppers! My idea for the darker ending is that the queen dies of natrual cause/is poisoned and then the Prince is heartbroken and runs away in grief. Since we don't want to leave the little ones crying to their mommy (*refers the vast majority of 10-12-year olds*) we could end it with the Boy King falling for the female follower of the Prince of Theives, or having his bard fall for my lady-in-waiting/female servant.

But of course, I have a back-up happy ending which stars the Prince throwing away his dark past and marrying the Queen.

Any questions?

Though I personally love dark stories, I know for a fact that death is highly frowned upon at the User Ball. Last year a fella died in the Lust room IC and the hosts were really unhappy, and almost every idea that's been somewhat similar to include death as a part of the story have been veto'd.

But I do love dark themes...

We could always have a dark-ish plot for the room that still gets resolved by the end of he event?

Aww... Well, that's too bad. But yeah, I'd love a dark-ish plot that can be resolved at the end. Since I'm all run out, anyone got any ideas? Prince running away with the Queen? And her cat? XD

Welll... we have one dark-ish idea on our side already: the Prince having stolen the Queen's heart (not romantically.)
Because this is dream land I think we have more freedom with being liberal with dark ideas as well because in dreams people don't die, so there's all sorts of twisted situations they could be in.

People losing their heads, for example, and the heads are still talking while they're stuffed.

Or we could look at sayings like "an eye for an eye" and make them literal..
PostPosted: Thu Oct 06, 2011 9:10 pm

Medieval is easy to work with. I really like the stuffed head, and we could have a haunted area in out perfect Queen's castle, and the Boy King could drag the party there. Maybe an RP'er could be the ghostie, or you could OOC (or IC with the head) and freaks everyone out.
