The panting turned into coughing and then into a series of sneezes. Dammit! Was he allergic to monsters too? He wiped his nose on his sleeve and hoped none of the girls saw. Thankfully most seemed to be occupied with the oncoming monsters.
He fired off another shot. It disappeared into the sea of monsters. He was pretty sure he hit but he wasn't sure how well it worked. "HA!" He was finally pulling his weight, it seemed.

Gale was busy staring at Bix with utter astonishment, his mouth slightly agape. The older boy had had issues with the last round of shots he had fired, but this time? It was like he was an entirely different person.
For the most part, that was. Gale felt a wide grin break out on his face. A part of him (most likely the somewhat childish part of him) was slightly jealous of the fact that Bix had managed to outshoot him, but another part of him - a bigger part - was pretty much awestruck that he had kicked some fierce monster butt when it came to shooting these...things.
"Dude," Gale said, holding up his hand to high five the other. "That rocked, man. Nice going!"

The last round of bullets went off, the trainees fumbling for the next round of bullets, the first of few of what might have been people already touching the outer ring of defenders, pushing the trainees into a tighter circle closer to each other.
"Weapons, your weapons." Caelius seemed distracted as their own weapon materialized with a soft hum, staring instead at the masses of limping figures still pouring out from the lodging in the distance. "Grab your blunt objects from your bag, make sure you have it held firmly in both hands and aim for the chest. Try to kill these before the next wave."
Crack
The closest of the monstrosities went flying backwards at the backhanded blow of the Hunter's scythe, the next few swept those close enough backwards, just long enough for the trainees to scramble to trade weapons-
-But when the first of the trainees looked up for support, they would find their instructor missing. Again.
((PHASE 3: BOSS MASS SPAWN - 40 HP REMAINING
- Melee phase: Your trainee is now using their blunt weapon (baseball bat) - Roll TWO 6-sided dice and SUBTRACT 6 from the result. For example, I roll a 6 and a 4 = 10. 10 -6 = 4 damage done. Anything below 0 is simply 0 damage. - Read the RP cues above, and have your trainee try to ward them off within the restricted time limit before the NEXT WAVE closes in - Each trainee only has time to swing TWICE. - Dont forget to RP out the result after the roll ))

Robert had barely gotten his gun back from Petra before the - whatever the hell - was close enough to touch. Still in his arms, he pulled her back forcefully and listened to Caelius' instructions without question. The bat was pulled out of his backpack, tested for strength, before Robert took on a very familiar stance.
His grin split his face wide. "All right, you sons of bitches. Batter up."
Oh, he batted up, all right. The bat cracked straight into his face as he swung it wildly full circle.
Splayed on the ground after knocking himself out, Robert giggled. "I can see stars."

They..they weren't backing down! What the hell was going on?! Candace was scrambling to try and reload the bullets when she heard Cael's voice. Weapons? The guns? What about them? She blinked and looked down when she heard a humming sound, a strange noise that stood out over the shrieks and cries and gunshots. While she had a feeling guns were better than blunt objects, they were supposed to adapt to different things, right? They were hunters. Hunters used whatever means necessary. That was why Candace wasted no time in tossing down her gun and grabbing-- "IS THIS A FRIGGIN' BASEBALL BAT?" She cried out in dismay, her faith in the man dissipating upon discovering they were now fighting these things with sports equipment. Seriously!? They were barely going down with guns!
Ugh, fine. If they had...to...
Candace stopped when she saw the scythe in action, eyes widening as she made a small awed sound. So beautiful!
Wait! Where the ******** did he go?!
No time, no time, no time! Candace gripped the bat's handle tightly in both hands and swung..!
CRACK! The bat made contact with one of the creature things. She turned on her heel to swing at another, only to find one of the guys on the ground.
"The hell did y--did you seriously just hit yourself?"

Ugh! What an idiot! Candace sighed and reached down to help the idiot up to his feet, or she tried anyway. He was large. She hoped he would help her help him. Whether he stayed on his feet or not? She didn't give a damn. The important thing was she did something to help him, even if it was useless in the end.
She swung the bat again...
CRACK! That one sounded about as effective as the last one. Siiiiiigh.

Candace's voice made Robert shake himself out of the reverie his crack with the bat had put him in, and he stumbled back to his feet groggily. "NO- WHAT. THAT'S STUPID. One of those things hit me. It was just all so fast, you couldn't even-OHSHIT"
They were still coming, and Robert hadn't noticed until something reached out, missing his face by inches. He brought the back up and swung wildly once more.
But, no. He just hit himself again. He didn't go down this time, but instead stumbled away, holding his head and sputtering curses that didn't even sound like proper words anymore. Like "FUGATCHA" and "MOTHERSHIZTAC".

Goddamn, just as he was getting ready to fire the last round, his gun jammed, rendering it useless, their wasn't time to try and fix it, much less fire again. Fumbling for his weapon, the young man so far was backing up closer into Cass. He smirked. "Well, this is one way to get up close and personal but-"
One of the creatures got closer than he could have liked, and swinging out, it didn't look like he'd caused much damage.

s**t, she was out of bullets and there were still things!!!! Cassandra had nearly panicked until the backpack was mentioned. She held hers up, looking at the bag. Did he want her to swing it around like a battle-purse? She imagined it would be more effective than a loaf of bread (hey, had you ever been hit with a loaf of bread? It was painful!).
However, it seemed someone else had figured out there was something IN the bag and Cass felt the feeling of 'NO DUH' strike as she fished open her bag and pulled out..well, it wasn't a bat, but it was solid and blunt. It looked like a crowbar?
She put her pack over her shoulder and gripped the bar in both hands, feeling it up to try and get a feel for the grip of it.
"Oomph!" Cassandra looked up at Marcus when he backed into her and nearly shrieked, possibly the first time she'd lost her composure since they got off the helicopter and nearly ducked behind the man when he'd swung at the too-close for comfort creature.
Shitshitshitshitshit.
"This is like Mr. Face only I have a weapon!!" she stepped forward and swung at the creature herself, putting on her best intense face..which was more '********' than actually the grinning confidence she had earlier....
Though her own ability to hit it wasn't much better than Marcus's.
((2 Damage, yay! :V With their powers combined they almost not-suck!)

Scott was giving her s**t, but because it was funny, she forgave it. His light sunshine quip was met by an eyeroll and a quasi-threatening wave of her gun. Apparently she was better at shaking it than shooting it, even if she did seem to come out ahead of the majority of her peers.
Then there was Bix. Hanna saw bodies tumble to the ground, eyes flickering back to the boy who had put them there. "Unexpected," she said quietly. "Maybe he's from Texas." Was it a time for jokes? Nope, not at all. But Hanna had spent her life-or-death situation pretending to be a magical wizard from her favorite book series. Her penchant for inappropriate whimsy was a touch on the high side.
Beside her, Scott totally screwed the pooch on his last shot. "Maybe you should make sure you can beat my aim before you get in over your head with the s**t-talk. I believe this gives me the sunshine-naming rights -- oh, look, they're much closer, better shut up now -- right?" Adrenaline buzzed in her veins, her heart thumping wildly. What were these things? It was a scene out of a monster movie.
Booted feet shuffled backward, and she bumped into Scarlett, standing elbow-to-elbow with the girl. Caelius addressed them all, and in a flash, Hanna pulled her backpack free, unzipped it, and pulled out a baseball bat. The gun was stowed where the bat had been.
No sooner did she grip the handle than one of the strange creatures roared in her face. With a girlish yelp, Hanna slammed the bat forward with all the strength she had. The strike missed and instead sent her tumbling face-first into the ground. Flipping on to her back, Hanna kicked both feet outward, propelling the thing away from her long enough to scramble on her hands and knees back into the ring of hunters.
...wait, where the ******** did their fearless leader go?

What?
What?
What?
Scott could barely handle Bix in and of himself, but the sight of him felling the creatures with savant-like ease was just too much. For a brief moment, Scott was able to forget about the danger closing in on them at all sides to stare in bewilderment at the sneezing, gasping sharpshooter. Being outperformed by two girls several years his junior he could live with, but something about being shown up by someone named Bix made Scott’s head hurt. He turned back to lodge a bullet in a monster’s head just to make sense of things, but found his muscles seizing up as he noticed how close the horde had gotten. He pressed himself tightly against the backs of Hanna and Scarlett, as if attempting to disappear between them.
Caelius’ voice was difficult to make out among the shrieks, but the message was clear as the shaft of his scythe sent one of the creatures soaring. Last line of defense. He reached into his pack, drawing out the blunt object and dropping his gun in its place. Something about the weapon smacked of desperation, hardly any elegance or skill in wildly swinging at their enemies. Just brute force and blind luck. He just hoped against hope nobody uttered the phrase “batter up,” or he might just-
“All right, you sons of bitches. Batter up.”
“UGH.”
Even as a release of pent-up frustration, Scott’s swing only managed to send one of the closer abominations stumbling back in a daze. His eyes widened as he felt the support behind him give way, practically falling as he watched Hanna do a face plant into the sand. He’d be more amused at the sight if his heart didn’t throb sharply, anticipating the moment serrated teeth tore through flesh like tissue paper. He would have exhaled when Nowicki managed to scramble back to safety, but “safety” was a relative term.
“Maybe we put a moratorium on the s**t talk until we’re not fearing for each other’s lives,” Scott suggested as he raised his weapon for another strike.

Before stared in what could be nothing else but wide-eyed fanboy-ism at Bix and how the tall Beta effectively wasted the approaching creatures. This added more merit to Before's self-sacrifice during the test in the Gym with Dr. H. See? See? Making sure Bix lived made so much more ******** sense than having Before survive. This was just the slam-dunk evidence needed. :> "Bix! Dude! That! You! And and and they! And BOOM! So! Awesommmmmmme!!!" his squeals were accompanied with wild gesticulation that made it seem like Before wanted to throw his arms around Bix *0*!!!!! And he probably would have, had their leader-dude not suddenly instructed them to get their bats out.
Wait what? O.o Teal eyes scanned the others to see them produce the bludgeoning instruments from their bag. He gulped, fumbling for his own, nearly dropping it when Robert all but conked himself out. Truthfully, Before didn't know how to react to it. Usually, he'd be the one to get beaned. Hefting the weapon, Before turned on his heel to try his luck. And promptly let out a shriek when he saw HOLY ******** s**t THEY'RE SO FUKING CLOSE!!!
SWING, YOU IDIOT, SWIIIIIIIING!!! (In the back of his mind he wonders if a Tango or maybe a Flamenco would have been more appropriate.) Before had his eyes closed but he felt of wood connecting against something. His eye cracked open and he released a sigh of relief that it wasn't a fellow hunter.

The ground below bit into Hanna's bare knees. She stumbled upright again, gritting her teeth against the pain. She'd died a day or so ago. What were a few scraped knees? Oh right, and then the strange creatures. Those were, uh, those were something else too.
The closest of the things took a swipe for Hanna. Out of reflex, she swung the bat again, clocking the nearest staggering lady in the face. Its jaw fell off.
Its jaw fell off.
Its jaw fell off.
Hanna held the bat stiffly in front of her and said to Scott and Scarlett, "Its jaw fell off." That was apparently the phrase of the day. She stared dumbly straight ahead, trying to stand tall even beside a much taller Scott. At least she wasn't cowering?

"HAHAHA, GOOD JOB BIX."
Lucky shots or not, he had taken out a good number of those quickly advancing monstrosities, and she was rather pleased with that. She tugged those closest to her backwards, trying to get them to move back, away from the things. At their superior's command, she put the safety lock back on her gun and tossed it into her backpack before pulling out the bat from inside.
"Come onnnnn," She muttered as she rose the weapon above her head, swinging it outward towards out of the things that was too close for comfort. She heard a satisfying 'thunk' as it connected with something. From the lack of an 'OW!' after, she assumed that she had not nailed out of her own.

Her second swing, however, was not as well aimed. She felt nothing but air as she swung the bat forward - then again, she could count herself lucky that she hadn't hit any of her fellow hunters yet. Frowning, she took another step back as the things closed in on them.
Ugh.
