A-One nodded silently to A-Seven. At least the man was some degree of rational now. He patted A-Seven's shoulder and let go. Now ... he'd wait for the next move in this twisted game.

Fiver the Second was exhausted from head to toe. He didn't know how much damage everyone else had but he was in rough shape. 'Three, huh? I'll stick with you... if that's OK. No one's going to touch you. OK? I'll make sure you're alright." He was clearly afraid of his new friend ending up like Fiver.
His shoulder and head fell against Three's leg heavily as though he couldn't support himself anymore. There was a dent in the back of his helmet. "... I hope it burns. I hope it just... burns in its own fire." He said, voice tired and strained from alternating between crying and yelling. "...then... I want to go home. Where ever that is..."

Another death. Zeta Ten couldn't believe that she had watched another death, when as far as she knew she had never seen anyone die, let alone a dead body, before today. Not that she could say for sure, but really. Twice in one day. She shivered and looked back at the monster that had caused this. Hopefully it dropped the pendant and vanished, but even if it did she wasn't in the mood to get it.
Maybe Alpha Ten had started this, but no one deserved to die in her opinion. All Zeta Ten wanted now was to get away from the beach, hopefully with her new friends, Zeta Six and Zeta One. It wasn't that she was in denial that this was what they faced here, she understood that, and that her gun was there to help accomplish that goal, but it was hard to adjust to. It would take time.

The moments after killing another human being are apparently very strange. Zeta Eleven remained sitting, watching the wisps of smoke curling from the barrel of his gun. They seemed laughably small compared to the great black clouds the smoldering patches of hell fire produced, and yet his gun had actually claimed a life. Take that, giant evil horse.
The same nauseating numbness that had accompanied the sight of Alpha Five’s lifeless body filled him as he watched Alpha Ten grow limp in Alpha Seven's arms. Eleven realized how ridiculous that all sounded, but that didn’t make him feel any less guilty. He finally let his arm drop, the slightest movement making his tender skin burn with fresh pain. He cringed, but nobody saw it. Nobody would care if they could. Alpha Ten would never cringe again, and that’s what everybody was all caught up with at the moment.
Eleven only noticed Zeta Eight when she was looming over him, grabbing him by the chest of his armor and pulling him in close for a heated whisper. Hand shot up to grab her wrist, but more for support than anything else. He certainly wasn’t fighting back.
As she spoke, his eyes moved past her to continue staring at Alpha Seven hunched over the corpse formerly known as Alpha Ten. Oh, right. Emotions. He always forgot something – the intangibles. He had deduced that killing Alpha Ten was their only viable option for further survival, but he had forgot to consider that severely pissing off their alliance’s largest, scariest hunk of man may have considerably shortened the length of his own survival.
“I’m sorry.” He was, though his tone failed to capture the subtleties of genuine regret. He sounded… not indifferent, but as if he had merely solved a problem, like fixing a misspelled word or straightening a crooked picture frame. “She was the closest to death. The monster demanded another sacrifice, and our initial failure to comply resulted in very painful fire. Mathematically, this was the right decision.” And if that didn’t convince them, well, he was plumb out of ideas.

Alpha-Two was reeling. This wasn't... she couldn't cope with this! This was insane, completely insane, completely beyond anything she'd ever had to deal with-
Click.
... No. No it wasn't. It was... kill or be killed. Majority rules. Majority SHOULD rule, except when it didn't. That was the way the world worked.
And those who deviated... had to be brought low. She knew this, at the core of her being, though she thought perhaps it had never been this literal before.
But that didn't really matter. She, too, glared at Z-11.
Neeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeerd.
((Oh, yes, she has 15 HP I believe?))

A1 dropped his hand, and took his eyes off of A7 for one minute.
One second.
It was enough.
Two steps back, and four to the left. A7 was a dark, heaving shadow just behind Z8. If Z11 had never taken his eyes off the man, he would have seen it coming. That didn't matter.
Nothing mattered.
A7 lifted his arms around Z8 gently, wrapping them around her body until he was pressing his arms weight down on her own. This pinned her arms down, and released Z11.
"I'm sorry." A7 repeated, with a sickened voice. "Sorry isn't going to bring her back, scumbag." Without moving Z8, A7 had reached up with both hands and wrapped them around Z11's throat. He used this hold to raise the man up, dangling a foot from the ground.
"But maybe your blood will."

The flames abated, as the colossal creature took one step back. "Pleased?" A pause. "You cannot please Death. You cannot escape it, it is inevitable, as I am. You have entertained me greatly, but I'm afraid I am bored now. It is time for your little game to end here."
Hellfire burst from the earth without warning, tearing up sand, painfully hot. This was the end for everyone on the beach. They were facing Death.
" Oh, Death is it? Fancy seeing you here. Again."
The flames turned erratic at the sound of the new voice, "Death's" tail flickering wildly, ears flattening against its skull. Where there once stood nothing but a scattering of frightened and angry squad members now stood one extra addition: this strange hooded figure, standing just as tall and proud as Death itself. It raised its scythe in the air, taking one step to place itself between the squad members and the creature.
"Now," The scythe began humming, glowing softly, "Shall we dance?"
'Death' backed up even further, flames slowly flickering and then abating. "Ugh." The creature was fading to black mist already, escaping. "This isn't your game to play. I'll find them again, the next time, and then next time, I will claim them forever."
The air filled with a strange, thick black mist, a hollow shriek that shook the entire beach, and the abomination was gone.
"Now," The hooded figure dropped their weapon, it turned into a small orb that disappeared into its sleeve. "Sorry about the little hiccup. I'll find your lost friends again too." There was no room for rebuttal or counterpoint. They simply talked as if they had rehearsed this ten times, a hundred and ten times. "I cannot help you further in your little mission other than the hint that 'Death' corrupted. Survival is only one facet of this entire game. Tread carefully."
A flash of light, and they were gone. (( OOC: BOSS FIGHT, END- "DEATH" IS DEFEATED - All squad members are free to break out into ORPS and into hiding but do not forget to write an EXIT POST here before you head off - Noone received the pendant, Death took it with itself. - Once again, all squad members cannot leave their zone yet, PVP is still on. ))

"A-SEVEN." A few fast steps, and A-One took hold of A-Seven's elbow, pulling his arm down. "You're not thinking straight. None of us are. It's what that ******** horse wants. Put. Him. Down."
... Flames and death ... and deus ex machina.
"What the ********," A-One said.

Find your lost friends again, eh? Well so far as A-Three was concerned, death was a finality, and he'd much rather not take chances on such a thing. This island was full of so many happenstances that simply should not be so, and thus, he could assume that perhaps such a thing was possible, that their fallen comrades were traipsing around happily in spirit somewhere. But that was far too much a sappy and romanticized thought to be entertained for long, and so, A-Three made an incredulous snorting sound 'neath his mask as 'Death' left the scene.
"Well if that's the end of that little fiasco, companions, I have had enough of this madness, and I wish you luck." Though not half so much luck as he wished himself. Nudging a bit at Fiver, where the other was leaning on him, he beckoned for the other to follow. "You, though, Fiver, may come with me...or stay here with these fellows, if you so choose." Though after that little display of loyalty but moments before, Three was rather certain that he would have a companion, which was all well and good, as he had no desire to face the dense fog alone.
Turning on his heel, he then strode off across the sands. The rest of these moronic dimwits could rot in hell for all he cared.

Zeta Six just stared.
Stopped and stared.
God this was some sort of sick humor, this. He was sure they were all about to die but then the sudden appearance and disappearance of the cloaked figure only reaffirmed his many thoughts on the matter. No one got the pendant. No one had a sure survival. And now two members of the Alpha Team lay slain.
He was curious to the figure's words of finding their friends and of survival only being a part of the big picture. What then were the other facets of the test if not just living? It was a puzzle. He cleared his throat with a "what now?" feel and looked to the rest of his team. He couldn't bear to speak now, not after feeling so defeated. He could only watch and listen as the rest of them decided on action, whether against each other or to anything else.

A-Eleven had been waiting for the beast to speak. She knew what it would say, more would have to die. Numbness, fear and anger were taking over her emotions now, grief was falling away. She had no room for grief. Now was not the time to fall apart and cry. Not if she wanted to live. That was becoming clear.
Around her, others were making allies, falling apart or showing little emotion. As the wheels turned in her mind, A-Eleven realized on important thing. What had been done had been done. Nothing was going to change it. They could not take back their parts in all this, all they could do was move forward.
When the monster did speak again it almost surprised her. It was done with them. It was going to end it. Or, it thought it was. Someone else showed up. And the monster horse, ‘Death’? had fled. The new stranger said some things that A-Eleven didn’t fully understand (her mind was reeling as it was), and left. Just left them there on the beach.
“What do we do now?”

Someone else had died. Everyone would die here. They would never escape. This Nightmare would kill them all. Every last one, the meek and the brave alike.. Zeta 12 wobbled in place, holding onto Zeta 2's shoulder for balance. He was dizzy, nauseated, burnt all over. He could see the others fighting each other, squabbling. Their pain, he just wasn't able to empathize at that moment, so consumed in his own muddled state. It wasn't as if he knew any of these people, but to see anyone turn on one another was horrifying.
The events that unfolded afterward knocked 12 back into focus. The Death Pony left, leaving behind a hooded incarnation of death. It spoke, said more things he didn't care to interpret.
Leave. He was leaving.
He patted 2 on the shoulder, sweat dripping over his wounded flesh, burning to the touch. "Run.." He muttered, before bounding off into the distance. Everyone, he hoped, would do the same. Just run!
Anywhere. Anywhere but here!

Alpha-Two remained silent for now. She was still in favor of... punishing... Z-11 for his insolence, for his deviation from the accepted norm, but it seems the game was about to change again.
Fine. She was ready... to follow the majority.
((Annnd I am going AFK again until work ends tomorrow; I'll re-position A2 then.))

Zeta One found her voice after a moment, though it was very soft. She looked around at Zeta Ten and Zeta Six and then at the rest of the group. She swallowed for a moment.
"We should go back to our camps and leave this place here. Mourn the dead, all that stuff..." she said softly, looking around at her team mates and the Alphas.

Zeta Five was already reaching for his mace. It was over. The horse was done with them and was going to end them. He was having trouble getting up to stand in front of Three but it seemed he didn't have to do anything. He followed the exchange, and felt like something was off about it. Like this happened all the time.
He put up his arm to block the flash of light and sat wonderingly. Fiver? He was going to find Fiver? But... He gazed toward where the body had been. How could he find a dead man? Then again how could he question a land of talking fire breathing horses?
He startled at the nudge and glanced up at Three. He felt a sense of safety rise up. Three wanted him with him. The others... they would kill him for what he almost did even if they end result had been the same. He paused to look, casting a look at Z8.
She was against him now. He staggered up to his feet and picked up his things before trailing after Three. That is where his loyalties were now. He was Three's new Fiver and he intended to be a damn good one.
[Z5 is exiting]
