Well of course. xd But if I spent my time thanking God for those things, it would take forever, so at one point, I was just like, "Thanks for existance God," and that takes care of that. razz

yeah... that's kind of why i don't pray really... i mean, i figure he can read my thoughts and see my soul anyway, why do i need to dumb it down, use euphemisms or even lie to Him? i mean, i know that's not the point of prayer, to lie to God, but still... i'm pretty sure that he knows how we feel and what we're thinking without us having to say anything out loud.

The reason I pray is that, since it's active, it's more... Polite? I mean, if my friend sees that I want to go to eat somewhere off campus (Read: With real food), but I don't have the money, he might just offer to pay for me. But it's a lot more likely for him to help me out if I ask him. And if he does something nice for me, and then afterwards I just assume he knows I appreciate it, that's kind of rude as well.

well yes, but your friend isn't omniscient, nor can he read your soul.

Yes, but I'm talking about if it's -obvious-. I mean, if he, say, gives me a new video game I've been waiting for, and just the expression on my face as I take it from his hands... And then plugging it into the PS2, completely ignoring him. Obviously, I'm appreciative. But not saying thanks, at the least, is incredibly rude.

but... how can you thank someone who made existance? i mean, "thanks a lot, seriously, it's nice." doesn't seem to cut it... it's not like He tossed us a birthday present, He created all of life and existance... i don't knw, i just prefer to be apreciative of everything and assume that since he can read my soul, he knows how i feel about what he's done for me... ya know?

How can you not? The greater the gift, the more the giver should be thanked. I mean, I'm not trying to force you to come to my side of the issue, understand, do whatever you think is right. But to me, it's like... Yeah. He freaking gave us life and a wonderful wide world to live on (No matter how much we've screwed it up.) Yeah, he can read our souls, but, to me, if I'm appreciative in my soul, then I'm thanking him. That's all there is to it.

Well, I'm Christian but hardly a fanatic about it. Although, being Christian, more specifically Mormon, I will admit I'm a bit bothered by being told to mark the "other" category. BUt I'll get over it.

I'm an atheist, I used to be a little religious, one day I just realised I didn't believe.

There's two categories for non-fundy Christians: Protestants, and Catholics. o.O Whereas Protestants are in this case considered to be anyone who's Christian but not Catholic.

Then you're severely limiting your categories of Christian.

Quote:

Christian (adj.) Professing belief in Jesus as Christ or following the religion based on the life and teachings of Jesus.
Christian (adj.) Relating to or derived from Jesus or Jesus's teachings.
Christian (n.) One who professes belief in Jesus as Christ or follows the religion based on the life and teachings of Jesus

Calling anyone who is Christian, but not Catholic, a Protestant is more than a little demeaning to anyone who is not specifically a "Protestant". I understand the use of the specific definition of being a Protestant, but as there is a specific Protestant religion, as well as Lutheran, Mormon, Baptist, Pentacostal, etc. Not to mention the various "Church of Christ's" etc that are out there that don't really fit into any category other than being Christian in their basic beliefs. It might be better to categorize it a little bit better, or at least clarify the meaning in the future. Especially if you want accurate results.

I wasn't looking for very accurate results. The point was to show that we aren't all Bible thumpers. The reason I included Catholics as their own division is that I have noticed that many of the people in the guild are specifically Catholic, and I was interested in seeing who was who.

I'm biased, okay? To me, if you are Christian and not Catholic, you are a Protestant, because the Catholic Church came first, so any Christian who is not Catholic is, in a way, "protesting" against the Catholic Church's teachings. And it's not like there's only the Roman Catholics anyways, there's other Catholics, like the various Orthodoxes. I've even heard some people call Mormons Catholic.

Also, there would be a lot more subdivisions, but there are only so many choices allowed in a poll. Seriously, relax, I wasn't trying to slight anyone. Again, the point was more about who's -not- Christian then it was about what kinds of Christian.

I understand simply trying to figure out who is what, but you defined it enough and then expected everyone else to understand how you were using your definitions. Obviously because there are only so mnay poll options available you can't simply go into the hundreds of Christian denominations that there are, or the other religions that have hundreds or more so denominations. But to simply define it all as "Protestant" (and again, even though I understand the use of its specific demonation) isn't exactly fair to the other types of Christians out there. I just think it could of been defined better in your poll is all.

I explained it several times over the course of this thread; If you read much of it at all, you would've seen that. If you want, I'll edit it into the first post. But it really wasn't a problem; This thread's been around for a long time, and no one has had a real problem with it until you.

I'm reading back and there actually do seem to be other people who were confused on what to answer since they're Christian, not fundies, but don't consider themselves to be Protestants.

Mormons, like Catholics and Muslims, are really just Pagan cults run by the Jesuit spies who inflict cancer on people and started both Communism and Nazism! It's true! Jack Chick told me so! He loves everyone who doesn't buy his tracts. That's why he tells us we're going to hell if we don't pay him money for his things. Can't you feel the love? So you see Andy, Catholicism shouldn't be there, nor should Islam (Since I don't think Muslim is a religion, it's the term for people who adhere to Islam. I think, I'm not completely sure so don't quote me). They're both under Paganism, along with the Mormons! We're all just cults run by those clever Jesuit spies.

Wait, seriously, that rant did serve a purpose! (And I wasn't serious about ANY of it except that Jack Chick actually says those things.)

If you start deciding which type of labeled Christians go in which groups, you cross over from informative thread to opinionated thread. This thread was made to prove that we're not all fundies, but if you're idly curious about how many Catholic to non-Catholic Christians there are, it might be easier to understand if you put that in the front page, or change the poll to say "Christian" but ask people to reply with which denomination of Christian they are, then list it on the front page. It'd be more work, but it might be easier to understand.
