Reading Tahki's answer, Haku nodded. "That was my concern as well," he said to Raziel, though the others seemed agreeable to it. "But Tybalt had a point earlier: if we don't investigate a possible route that might be the shortcut, we might lose a valuable chance at cutting our travel time down." Or adding to it, if it failed somehow. He too was still aware there were only several of them with cards, one of which was resting in her tent.

"Hmm . . . While on the subject of travel, shouldn't we be trying to obliterate our footprints? That might bring worse JOYs upon us," the inugami pointed out, having glanced back to see their mess of tracks.

And Jack dammit, wouldn't you know it another tree came out! Haku growled.

"Wooooow, heeeeey....you're kinda pretty you know that? What's a pretty...thingy...like yourself doing 'round here?"
And overly "Merry" tree has wandered over to you. It's boozy smell threatens to overwhelm you.

HP: 5

2 damage

Oh . . . Oh Jack.

Normal JOY trees were bad. This one was . . . was . . . Oh $($&@#($&.

"Stay away, foul thing!" Haku growled as he tried to kick the thing off, the smell nauseating him.

"Youuuuu're cuttteee lassy.." The tree burps at Hakus kick. "C-cooome onnn I can cann cann tell your soooo classsy. Give papa treeeeee a chance.."

HP: 2

No damage

If he wasn't fighting, Haku would have shuddered and removed himself away from the foul-smelling thing. Was it so drunk it couldn't tell he was boil?

More importantly, was it so drunk it couldn't tell he wasn't a tree?

This was the reason Haku never imbibed alcohol. It . . . did things to a person. The kick seemed to work so, not dignifying the thing with a verbal response, he proceeded to try and kick at it again - gods knew he was going to be washing his leg for a few days after that burp.

(( 5+5 = 10 - 6 = 4 damage OH GOD GO DIE NOW BEASTIE

This time the kick caused the tree to fall over and for some reason catch on fire. A slightly burnt gift box rolled out of the branches at Hakus feet.

Tari happily joined them but didn't like the idea of going to the sea. She had wanted to transverse the moutains but she didn't want to go alone. She would be out numbered and out manuvered by the locals if she didn't have any help.

She listened to Petro talk. He was asking about others? Tari looked around, scanning for anyone else other than the ones she had set out with. Xi had fallen behind and several from the car were missing. If they stopped and looked for them they'd lose time and not get to their goal.

"We can't go look for them or wait, otherwise we'll lose time and give the enemy even more time to weaken us," she looked towards the trees.

"Hey there! You lost?"
A friendly tree has appeared behind you! It wishes to hug you in painfully happy ways!

HP: 3

Oh no he didn't! No tree was going to make a mockery of this feline!! She let out a mighty roar and slashed at the tree with her claws.

"Wow that was a nice one, here lemme try too!"
The friendly tree thinks that this is some kind of game, and swings it branches at you in an alarming fashion.

OW! Jack damnit that hurt!!!! Fricken tree, now she was throughly pissed off. Now she full on pounced the tree with both hands and feet, claws bared for an awesome attack....she hoped.

"What's to say the other routes don't have obstacles of their own?" He pointed out. "We may not have been the only ones to have gotten something during the train ride." Man this kid was being difficult. He could understand what the kid was saying, but jeez! He gave a sigh before continuing. "We don't even know if the cards are dealing with a special route to begin with. It could be something else entirely, or nothing at all. That said, I'm also not really liking the idea of heading right down the middle. To me that seems like walking through the front door." Which usually meant the worst kind of trouble.

Tari let herself claw it a few more times before hissing at it again. She disliked trees, it make her even more glad to live in a desert. She picked up the package that had fallen out and put it with her sack of joy. Turning she smiled at Tahki.

"Well done cousin! And you Haku. Nice kick," she smiled. "But I think it is best we move and now. Three of getting attacked is not good."

She looked to the monster who suggested the train tracks and frowned. Did the Hellma...thing...say that was extremely dangerous? As much as she liked to prove herself in battle she wasn't fool hearty.

"I think we should just stick to the sea path, if that is what is wanted, and go now. Or face more attacks," she crossed her arms.

Fire? What on . . . He examined his foot briefly before quickly snatching a burning branch, satisfied more by its warmth than by the present that rolled out of it. Though he did grab the gift and dust it off.

"Good job to you as well, Tari. Well!" he huffed as he brandished the fiery makeshift torch. "I've had enough of this forest, I don't know about you. Let's just keep moving, at this point I don't care where so long as we get away from these . . . things."

A small wave of nausea rolled over him. Jack, that drunk creature's breath was horrible!

"I recall that the 'front door' route is suicide. Just . . . Let's just try this sea route and see what happens alright? I'll be happy to retrace my steps if it's wrong."

Petro's eyes widened in alarm as two more trees appeared to attack his friends! Instincts had him placing himself between the offending, walking foliage and Tahki. As the trees fell, he whickered to the others, "Decide where you want to go. Fast. Xi can catch up to whoever he wants to go with."

He hoped Tahki, Haku, and Tari would all pick the same path as Yaya and Tybalt. He couldn't just leave her things for the ghost dog to carry! Not after he made his offer earlier.

"Then I say lets go. Anyone who wants to follow is more than welcome," Tari held her bag tight and headed off in the direction of the island. The sphnix would walk proudly, not letting her nervousness show. She hoped her friends would come with her, she didn't want to be alone but she wouldn't stand alone in this forest after all the attacks.

Raziel was less than pleased with the outcome of the conversation about what route to take. He truly disliked mountains, and so had crossed that as an option to begin with, which left only the "front door" route as they had called it and the ocean. Which he did not have a pass for. At this rate they were all going to die. Great.

Furrowing his brows, Raziel gave a deep sigh, "If all of you really think it's a great idea to go the sea route that may or may not let everyone through, maybe we should also come up with a back up plan if and when this one fails." Raziel was beginning to get frustrated, and it could be seen in his mannerisms quite obviously.

Petro canted his head at the small boil's words, "You need to be standing still to think?" Despite the quirk of the tikbalang's brow, it was a genuine question. Nothing more, nothing less. "Sticking with the others who haven't made up their minds is an option too," he adds with a shrug, the backpacks on either shoulders rising and falling along with the motion.

"I'm still going with the sea route." He agreed and started to follow after the others. "Catch up with us quickly! Okay Xi?" He called back. Hopefully the poor guy would kill that thing soon, so he wouldn't fall too far behind. "Bring Natalia with you if can wake her!" He almost forgot about the were lemur. Poor girl was going to be shocked if she woke up alone.

He was a few feet ahead already when he heard the boil speak again. "What like take the mountain route?" He asked after hearing his suggestion. His tone a little more sarcastic then he intended. He did not want to take the suicide route. If Hellma had warned them about it, then it had to be pretty bad. So that left the mountain route. "We can think something up along the way, in case this plan backfires." He agreed and hoped the boil would start moving along. He wasn't comfortable with leaving him there on his own.

Grumbling to himself and dragging his feet the whole way, Raziel began walking behind the others. He was thoroughly displeased with all of these students. None of them would go past their own stubborn decisions and because of it, he might have to pay the price. It was ridiculous.

Raziel's mood darkened even more and he could not help but to think ill thoughts of the others. If anything went wrong, Raziel would probably be the first to blame their terrible decision making skills and take off in his own direction. Besides, Hellma never warned them about the train tracks, the gnomes did, and he knew they were kind of wimpy.

Petro shifted the weight of the two backpacks he now carried to a more comfortable position before trudging through the snow after the others. He was glad that he wouldn't have to be separated from the three he had met first on the train. At least he knew they could take care of themselves, as evidence by their rather swift victory against the trees. Every so often he'd glance back at the small boil who lagged behind and couldn't help but wonder why.

"Y'hurt or something?" he asked, referring to the earlier battle the small boil had with the tree.

To be frank, Haku would have thought if Raziel was so opposed to going to the sea route, he would have just separated himself from them. Chances were he would have found similar-thinking students somewhere up there.

Ah well. Maybe the cold air would mellow him out with time. All Haku wanted to do was get away from the forest and its drunken and JOYful trees, and he made no comment as he too followed after Tybalt and Tari, drowning out the shorter boil's grumbles with ponderings.

Would Xi and Natalia find their way to follow them, if they so chose? He knew both were adamant about keeping together . . . Why were the trees dropping presents, and what did the numbers have to do with them? Were these Sandy Claws' traps ticking away?

Finally, and most importantly, what obstacles awaited them next? Rubbing cold fingers together for a scrap of warmth and ignoring the scratches made by the drunken tree on his arm, Haku walked onward towards The Island of Misfit Toys.

Tari glanced back at the pouting monster. She rolled her eyes, what a baby! If he didn't want to go this way he had two feet! They could take him wherever he wanted. Well he'd get over it, pouting aside. Then she heard Petro talk to him. She snorted.

"He's just being pouty because he didn't get his way. Just let him have his pout," she grinned sickeningly sweet at Raz.

Huh. Petro kinda understood about being upset when you didn't get your way. Except he didn't pout about it. He hit something. Usually whoever or whatever it was that upset him in the first place (unless it was his female cousins. Or his mama. Or any ghoul for that matter). "Not good to let bad feelings stew," he remarked to the sphinx, "Best to let it out. Like with a big battle cry! Or a solid punch." The grin was back on his face.
