Sydney wasn't known to be a gullible soul, but he believed in the innocence of others and often was caught up in traps. Sooner than he realized his golden eyes were bright, and he was chewing on his bottom lip with worry, his gaze darting to Gabriel. "A braggart, huh?" The young adult snorted before catching the wibble. As soon as he saw it, however, he was immediately patting the baldy's shoulder. "Oh, I know, I know. You did what you could! I just...I kind of thought he was the nice guy and you were the shady one." The guy was a potion user, huh? It explained why the Captain had looked at him like she did, and why she was being so friendly, even though they were chained together...
"Oh, sure!" Sydney snapped to attention and grabbed the pot. "Just giving him a run down on house rules." Before he turned around, he murmured to the yellow taur, "There's a knife in the tinder. Get yourself free and I'll figure out how to unchain them." Or rather, unchain his Captain.
When he turned, Sydney was his regular, fumbling self, even going so far as to trip on a pebble and almost drop the pot on his way to the pair. "Here, here! Take this," he held out a scarf from his bag. "It's a little big, but it'll be easier to spread the water than using your hands."

Baldy couldn't believe it! He was really good at this being the good guy stuff.... He felt a grin try to rise, but kept it hidden behind tight lips. He gave Sydney a most earnest look and a subtle nod. A blade in the tinder. Nice move. He looked over as the water was delivered, waiting for the right chance to stick his paw out and sift through the tinder to look for- that! He pulled the knife close, tucking it under himself for a moment. Again, he needed the right moment. He didn't care about Sydney, and he didn't even really care about Quintessa. She was going to pay for siding with Gabriel and being so soft, but his main target was the green male. Wait for sleep again...
Gabriel's brow knit as Sydney stumbled over. Was this guy seriously part of the order? How was this guy going to get Baldy to the big boss man without screwing up? Carefully pulling the pot closer, he frowned slightly. "Calm down, dude. She's sewn up fine. She'll still need medical attention soon, but let's try to make sure she gets some sleep." He dipped one end of the scarf into the hot water and dabbed it against the wound. He used another small section to dry it, and then wrapped a single layer around her waist as protection. The old hut was filthy...
"All right. Sydney, is it? How about you go find her some food for later? Make sure baldy there is secured tightly first. I can't watch him very well still chained like this." Maybe he should try that key soon... if it was still in his pack. How had he managed to keep a hold of it this whole time? It had only been a long couple days since this adventure started, but it felt like so much longer... "If you don't mind.. some food for me and baldy over there, too. Not much time to eat when-" he went silent and sighed, rubbing his eyes with one hand. Not much time for sleep, either, when one was trying to not get killed.

"Hey, I'm just grateful she isn't dead." As nervous as he was around Gabriel now after Baldy's story, he was indeed grateful. Keeping his Captain alive was priority number one, despite any intention this green fox seemed to have behind it. How many females had he drugged in his years? Did he have a harem, or was he a black widow?
"Hey hey," Sydney crooned, leaning forward to put his hand on Gabriel's shoulder. "You've had a very trying time, and even if I don't know all the details-" lies! All lies! "-I know that sleep is the best thing for you. There's an inn just down the way; when you wake up, I'll pick up something. For now, get some rest. I'll stand guard."
Quintessa was already slipping into sleep when Sydney approached. She was tired, injured, and hungry, but the last time she'd thought she was safe she'd woken up with her spear at her throat. The assassin stayed quiet throughout her treatment, only offerings the slightest of grunts when she felt something wrap around her waist. Something wasn't right about Sydney. He was too chipper, too easy going....she just couldn't put her finger on it..."Lay down," she murmured, reaching tugging on the chain that connected them.

Eyes darting to the hand on his shoulder, Gabriel looked up at Sydney flatly. "No, I got a bit during the night," somewhere between catching Baldy, and being woken by the fight. A much shorter night than he was used to getting. "I'll be-" his ears perked at the weak voice and the tug of the chain. If Tessa felt Sydney could be trusted... He looked over at his enemy with a frown, eyes knitting in irritation. If that guy got loose again while they slept... Not only was there a risk of being strangled in their sleep, he risked losing his ticket to freedom.
Looking to Quintessa, his eyes rose one more time to Sydney. "Don't let him out of your sight. Ever," he said firmly, staring hard at the gray male. Then he curled up next to the feline, perhaps settling a little closer to her than was necessary from the chain, half-settled between her and Baldy like a protective block. He tossed Baldy a warning look before his eyes dropped closed, dropping under within seconds.
Baldy's face kept straight until Gabriel's eyes closed. Then, he spared himself a grin. This was too easy! If you want a job done right, do it yourself! Then he forced his grin back down, his eyes looking to Sydney with anxious curiosity, asking with his eyes if he could cut himself free now, trying to seem more helpless than he was and pull at Sydney's heartstrings.

Sydney couldn't respond with an answer without it being an obvious lie. Lying had never come easy to him, and even when this male being the bad guy, he still didn't have it in him to promise something he wouldn't keep. All he could do was nod, trying not to look downcast.
With the matter settled, Quintessa rolled her head to the side so she could not only watch Baldy as she drifted off, but she could spot Gabriel as well. She held onto his hand, keeping his warmth next to her while she drifted off.
Sydney sat back on his haunches with an over-exaggerated sigh. Oh jeez, what kind of mess did he get himself into? He turned his head to Baldy, and the look he got nearly broke his heart. Poor thing! He must have been scared out of his mind.
The spotted fox snuck closer to whisper, "One hour. Any sooner and they'll wake up."
After that, he retreated to a separate corner, curled up on a bed of old hay, and tried to sleep himself.

Taking a deep breath, he gave Sydney an assuring nod. One hour... Yeah, he could wait one hour. He looked at the chain duo once more before letting his eyes close. Now, how could he do it? He was definitely going to use that spear of hers.. Just go ahead and slit their throats? No, too simple. Maybe he would do that to the woman, and get her out of the way while he made his rival pay for embarrassing him in front of his woman, and for wasting his gold on hiring a useless assassin... And what about the gray guy over there? Baldy smiled. Surely that guy would keep quiet for a handful of gold. After all, Sydney deserved it for providing such an opportunity.
He waited one hour, and then forced himself to wait another half. He could prolong his revenge to make sure everyone was solidly asleep... He would have to move quickly. He remembered how sharp they'd been the last time he'd surprised them. Pulling the blade that Sydney had provided back out, he got his hands loose. Disable Gabriel, kill Quintessa, pay off Syndey, and then take his sweet time....
Taking a deep breath, he shot over and jammed the knife into Gabriel's shoulder of the arm that wasn't chained. In the same motion, his other arm reached for Quintessa's spear, thinking about how satisfying it would be to kill her with her own damned blade.
Gabriel had managed to fall into a deep sleep. His dream was simple... he was laying next to Quintessa in a place much nicer and more comfortable than the rotting house they were currently hiding out in. They were relaxed until he felt the sharp pain in his shoulder. For a split second, his dream turned into Tessa finally attempting to fulfill her duty. Then he woke, a holler wretched from his lungs as his eyes snapped down to the knife. What the he-?! How was Baldy loose again? "No!" He dropped Tessa's hand as he reached out as well, reaching to grab the yellow fox's arm before the guy could grab the spear.

Gabriel's cry caused Quintessa's body to react with a jolt. She saw the black in his shoulder, and the- How was he loose?! The assassin stretched out her free arm as far as she could for her spear, fingers barely touching it before the weapon skittered across the floor. There wasn't much time to worry about it. Instead, she tapped into her depleted energy to fire up lighting in her finger tips. If she didn't so something quick, he would kill Gabriel or worse!
Sydney was a little harder to wake up. He'd assumed that it would be morning before that green fox figured out what happened, but when he heard the scream he sighed. Maybe he was light sleeper, or- "Oh cripes!" As soon as he opened his eyes, he got sight of the situation, and panicked.
I was wrong.... Dread settled in his stomach, paralyzing him to the ground. This was all happening because of his horrible judgement.
The spear didn't travel far before a large, scarred hand wrapped around it. A pair of thick paws stocked across the ground, ragged claws tearing up the earth before the tip of the spear was resting directly behind Baldy's head.
Terrance's carefree smile was replaced by the cool look of a demon on a rampage. His large tail swayed dangerously behind him, twitching every time he saw a new piece of news around the room. "Two steps back and put your hands behind your head."

The spear! Right there! So close.... Then, he saw the strange new set of heavy paws, his eyes widening slightly. Who the hell was that?! As quick as he could realize the other taur was there, he realized the spear was gone from the ground, and instead pressed against his neck. ...again. He started to turn, but the voice made him freeze. That guy... smelled like that island. Whole body tense, he took the two steps back and raised his hands. "You're pointin' that at the wrong guy," he growled stupidly. "It's him ya'll was hired to kill."
It was over in seconds. Gabriel was reaching for Baldy's arm, Baldy and Tessa were reaching for the spear, the spear skittered out of reach, and then... Terrance?! The name shouted in his mind as he looked up at the large male. When? How?! Terrance had Baldy under control though, so that didn't matter anymore. He rolled to turn to Tessa, eyes darting to her wrapped waist and then the rest of her. "Are you okay? Did he get you at all? Did the stitches break?" His manacled hand raised and cupped her cheek, his other hand weakly reaching to take hers. The blade had been poorly aimed, and was too high to have done any serious damage; mostly in the thick muscle rather than anything sensitive. He could still move his arm a little.
When he realized what he was doing, the blood stopped flowing out of his wound and shot up to flood his pale cheeks, and his arms froze in place before stiffly lowering back. "I mean- I- uh-" What was he doing?! She was going to break his nose for that! It was a sharp memory though... when he'd woken to the stab at his body, his overwhelming thought had been to make sure nothing happened to Quintessa...

"Guess what? I'm not on payroll." Terrance stepped back with him, careful to keep the weapon in a tight grip. As soon as the bald one did as he asked, he reached up to deliver a punch hard enough to knock him out.
"Calm down, I'm fine." In truth, her wound was stinging, but she was sure nothing had pulled. That had been awful! What if she'd lost him? Why did she care? Did she...? Oh gosh, now he was touching her, and she...well,she couldn't stop her flushing, though, or her reaction. Before he could pull back all the way she wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him fervently.
Sydney couldn't believe it. It had all happened so quick! And now Terrance was staring daggers his way. It was enough to make the little fox cower in his corner, but he knew that if he didn't come to him, the big cat would be on him within the second.
"Um...I can explain..."

Later, he would wish he'd had the chance to see Baldy have his lights knocked out. However, nothing could have pulled him away from his dream come true. His arm was yanked about by the manacle, and his shoulder stung from the knife still being stuck in it, but none of that compared to how Tessa's lips pressed to his own. His returning grasp was awkward, one hand half up beside his own head and the other weakly gripping around her waist, but his returning kiss was anything but awkward. He met her intensity with his own to match, his heart thudding in his chest as he forgot that they were in a rotted old hut with one unconscious foxtaur, one terrified courier, and one terrifying cattaur seeking answers.

Quintessa shifted to relieve tension on her stitches, all while moving closer to him. She slid on hand into his hair to hold him close, and the other slid down his back- where her should hit the knife. The cat gasped and pulled back, confused and disoriented at first, but worried the next. "You're still wounded!" How in the world could she have forgotten?! Well, scratch that - Gabriel was an amazing kisser.
"Among other things," Terrance stated dryly. He'd let Baldy fall to the ground on his own, and was now leaning against the spear, it's point buried in the earth. His focus never deterred from Sydney, though. "I've been trailing the two of you since you left the island, under my father's orders, to make sure you didn't mess this up. Seems like I worried about the wrong people."
"He said it wasn't his fault! For all I know it wasn't!" Sydney stepped closer, bewildered eyes dancing between the four. "All I knew was that the Captain was injured, and chained up to a man that was being a little too friendly with her. He said that this guy drugged up other girls to make them like him, and....well, I thought he had done the same to her."

Her startled gasp made Gabriel's eyes pop open with concern. Had he pressed too hard? His wound being brought up made his brow knit together, and he looked down at the injury. "...Oh." He raised a hand to the blade, touching it gingerly before gritting his teeth, taking a firm grip, and yanking it out. He groaned sharply, tossing the blade away before he could give in to the temptation to return it viciously to the man it'd come from. Then he looked to Quintessa and gave her a little smile. "All better."
His eyes slid over as Terrance explained his sudden surprise presence. Ah... That would make sense. "Never thought I'd be happy to see you again. Think I might even hug you if you didn't still scare the hell out of me." His weak smile broadened slightly. It wasn't much, but it showed his humor starting to return.
When Sydney started explaining himself though, Gabriel's head snapped around, wincing again as his shoulder pulled. "What?!" Way to ruin the mood... Baldy was unconscious and still ruining things! "A run down on the house rules.." he snorted sourly, remembering Syndey and Baldy chatting earlier. He should have known.

Terrance guffawed, a terse grin on his face. "What's wrong, little man? I thought you were into the kinky stuff." He motions to the manacles. "Especially seeing as you haven't unlocked yourself yet, or did you lose that key too?"
He straightened, pull the spear up with him, and stalked over to Sydney. "Sounds to me like someone didn't do what he was told." Terrance made a gimme motion, his eyes shifted from Sydney's left forepaw to the foxes eyes.
Sydney lowered his gaze before lifting his paw into Terrance's waiting hand. "I'm really, really sorry. I know it's not my place to step into an assassin's role, but I just wanted to keep her safe." He said it as much to Terrance as he did Gabriel.
Still, the fox yelped and tried to pull away when the tip of the spear began to glow a bright, firey blue and burn a line across the bottom of his foreleg above an already existing line.
When he was done, Terrance let Sydney pull away to lick his wound. "One mark for arrogance, a second for ignorance. Don't make me give you a third." He tossed the weapon back to Quintessa before slipping closer to Baldy. In a practiced maneauver, he hoisted the limp jerk over his body. "Come on, Sydney. Time to go."
She passed Gabriel a little smile, and assured herself that once everything was settled she would take care of him, just like he'd been doing for her. Still, Sydney was a disappointment. She growled at him and snapped her fangs. His punishment served him right! What kind of an idiot would believe someone so shady?
"Wait, you're leaving? With him?" Quintessa tried to sit up, but hissed out a groan instead.

At first, Gabriel gave Terrance a confused look. How was he supposed to unlock-? His eyes widened slightly. Terrance knew about the key... it did go to the manacles... His lightening mood dropped back down in an instant. He'd had the chance to free their arms this whole time.... Quintessa was sure to be furious.
He glanced over at the big male as Baldy was plucked up. The yellow fox didn't even groan, still out cold. His green eyes lingered with remorse on Terrance's legs, only barely listening now to what Sydney was saying. If he hadn't been so selfish, Tessa wouldn't have gotten hurt. She would have been free to move as needed. Instead, he'd been too afraid... When Tessa spoke up, his eyes rose further to meet Terrance's eyes. "You should take Quintessa with you. Make sure she gets proper care for her injury." His eyes dropped back down, seeking out his cheap little bag and slowly reaching for it. This was going to suck... She was giving him smiles, and kissing him, and showing concern for him, and he was about to show what an idiot he truly was.

Quintessa was quiet for a while. Eerily so, in fact. Her smile was becoming faker by the second, as was evident with the way she started to wrap her fingers around the chain. "So, what you're telling me is that you were given a key? And you didn't use it?" She slammed the chain onto the ground. "We've been hiding in alleys, hunting deer in the woods, and fighting with that twit because you didn't use a key you've had from the beginning? What is wrong with you?!" She gave him a good shove, then realized what she did. "Oh, oh no, I'm sor- Wait, no I'm not! Not entirely!" She huffed. The assasin was sitting up, despite her wound. The adrenaline and aggrivation were as good as alcohol at this point.
"Why didn't you just trust me? Didn't I prove that I wasn't going to kill you, or even hurt you?" That's what hurt the most. The fact that he didn't trust her enough not to kill him when they were free. Why else would he have not used the key? "If you don't want me around, that's one thing, but I'm not leaving."
