Lesson Two
Dark Creature Assignment

It is a dementor, not a boggart. And students must be in fifth year to face the dementor. Sorry..
*Raises voice* Now class, all of you who have not yet cast the spell your year was practising last time (First and second-Locomotor Mortis) (Third and forth year-Petrificus Totalus) (Fifth year-Patronus) (Sixth and seventh year-Levicorpus) you need to practice so you can cast it. For the others, you can start on another project. It is to due October the 20th. You will pick a dark creature, any dark creature and you shall give a short desciption. Ex. Where it lives, what it eats, why it is dark, how dangerous it is, what it looks like. All kinds of information. And it doesn't have to be a long description. Everyone will do this, first to seventh years. And, if you're not done learning to cast you spells, you shall start the dark creature project when you are. Any questions?

When you are done, you can post it here.

Aludra Yvette...

"I would like to do Dementors, Professor." Aludra shouted eagerly, taking out a quill and a spare piece of parchment. "After all, most of us just faced one and it would be insitful to have a bit of information on the creature."

A Dementor is a Dark creature, considered one of the foulest to inhabit the world. They are, in fact, so dark they do not have a marked catigory by the Ministry of Magic. Dementors have a humanoid shape and are approximently three meters high, or 10 feet tall, and are clothed in dark hooded cloaks of ripped cloth. Their decayed-looking bodies and their faces have nothing on them except a large hole where the mouth should be. They infest the darkest, filthiest places they can find, trying to scope out their prey. Dementors are at least somewhat sentient, and intelligent enough to be greedy. They can understand and follow simple intructions: they were able to communicate what they had heard Sirius Black saying in his sleep to the Ministry in 1993, implying that they can relay thoughts of their own to wizards through some unknown form of communication, though the extent to which Dementors and and wizards can communicate is unclear. It is possible that Dementors react to emotion and/or thought, rather than to spoken words, though it's also possible they can hear and understand speech. Dementors hold no true loyalty, except to whomever can provide them with the most people to feed off. Being blind, Dementors sense and feed on the positive emotions of human beings in order to survive, forcing their victims to relive their worst memories over and over again. The very presence of a Dementor can make the victim's surrounding atmosphere grow cold and dark, and as the number of Dementors increase, so do the effects. If in the presence of this creature too long, people tend to become depressed, and often driven insane. This is why the wizarding prison, Azkaban, has such a well-deserved horrible reputation since the Dementors guard their prisoners. In addition to feeding on positive emotions, Dementors can perform what is known as the Dementor's Kiss, in which a Dementor latches its mouth onto a victim's and sucks out the person's soul. After they preform this, there is no chance of recovery, you just exist as an empty shell. Those who have their soul sucked out in a Dementor's attack look as though to be suffering from the medical condition known as Persistent Vegetative State by Muggle doctors. No one has ever demonstrated the ability to kill a Dementor, implying that they can not be killed through physical means, but can only be driven away or temporarily kept at bay. One way being the very difficult Patronus Charm.

*Smiles * ^^ I have chosen a Runespoor~

The Runespoor is a three-headed snake native to Burkina Faso in Africa. Runespoors are six to seven feet long, with orange and black stripes. Since they are very easy to spot, the Burkina Faso Ministry of Magic has had to make several forests Unplottable for the Runespoor's use.
The Runespoor has long been associated with Dark Wizards, and what is known of their habits is due in large part to the Parselmouths that have conversed with the creatures.
Each of the Runespoor's head serves a different function. The left head is the planner, it decides where the Runespoor is to go and what it is to do next. The middle head is the dreamer (it is common for a Runespoor to remain stationary for days lost in glorious visions and imaginations) and the right head is the critic whose fangs are highly venomous. It evaluates the efforts of the left and middle heads with a continual irritable hissing. It is common to see the far right head missing, as the other two heads often band together to bite it off when it critises the other two heads too much. Because of this, the Runespoor rarely lives to a great age.
The Runespoor bears its young in eggs that it produces through its mouth, and is the only magical beast known to do so. Runespoor eggs are very valuable in making potions to stimulate mental agility and have flourished on the black market for several centuries.
In the runic alphabet, the three heads of the Runespoor are used to represent the number three.

Raises wand slowly while searching her memories for her happiest.
Expecto Patronum!
Silver light appears at the tip of her wand. It transforms into a misty four-legged creature but it is not sharp enough to see what it is exactly.

Puts wand in robes,
I think I'll practice that more later, I should start on the assignment. I would like to choose Vampires, Professor.

Ravenclaw student:
(Awwww, I missed the boggart lesson, I'll just have to practive and try next lesson)

Hello Professor, I have just arrived. I am a fifth-year, and will be turning that report in...about..right....NOW!.......I will be doing my report on: Augurey...

Also known as the Irish Phoenix, and is native to Ireland and Great Britain. It is a thin and mournful looking bird, almost that of a vulture, with greenish-black feathers and a sharp beak. Their feathers repel ink, making them useless for quills.
The Augurey, like the banshee, has a cry that predicts the death of the hearer. As with the banshee, people have died from a heart attack upon hearing the cry, panicked as they were. The Latin augur means soothsayer or fortuneteller. It is obvious why this creature is feared, but does it truly determine the death of a person? No, the augurey merely sings when it is about to rain. They were then used as weather forcasters, but the screams they sing were unbarable.
Their diets, or food, consists of insects, fairies, and flies, which they hunt for in the rain. Imensly shy, the Augurey lives in a tear-shaped nest of thorns and brambles.

*Enjoyed it, thought you would.

”Here you go Professor my Dark Creature Essay”

*Hands roll of parchment to Professor HPF*

Quote:

The Basilisk also known as the King of Serpents

The first recorded Basilisk was bred by Herpo the Foul (and later again by Salazar Slytherin hidden within the Chamber of Secrets under Hogwarts) , a Greek Dark wizard and a Parselmouth, who discovered after much experimentation that a chicken egg hatched beneath a toad, would produce a gigantic serpent possessed of extraordinarily dangerous powers.

The Basilisk is a brilliant green serpent that may reach up to 50 feet in length. The male has a scarlet plume upon its head. It has exceptionally venomous fangs (the venom is powerful enough to destroy a Horcrux, and the only known anti-venom is the Tears of a Phoenix) but its most dangerous means of attack is the gaze of its large yellow eyes. Anyone looking directly into these will suffer instant death. (Those who see the eyes, say though a pool of water, or a camera, will become petrified.)
If the food source is sufficient (the Basilisk will eat all mammals and birds and most reptiles), the serpent may attain a very great age. Herpo the Foul’s Basilisk is believed to have lived for close to 900 years.

The creation of Basilisk’s has been illegal since medieval times, although the practice is easily concealed by simply removing the chicken egg from beneath the toad when the Dept. Regulation and Control of Magical Creature comes to call.

However since Basilisks are uncontrollable except by Parselmouths, they are as dangerous to most Dark wizards as to anybody else. Spiders flee before the Basilisk, for it is their mortal enemy, and the Basilisk flees only from the crowing of the rooster, which is fatal to it.

Hello! Have you practiced the Leg-Locker Curse?
This curse causes the victims legs to lock together. The incantation is Locomotor Mortis. You may practice this spell on a little walking statue. *Points on my desk at a spot where little stutes can be seen*

Everyone can take any dark creature for the project. And even if that dark creature is taken, it isin't that bad.. But do try to take a different creature. But I understand if one is repeated once or twice.. But not too often. And, if you choose the same creature as another person, try to write your paragraph differently and take information that person has left out.
