Flying into Long Island with lavender wing sound constructs, Songbird easily gets a bird's eye view of the VTOL assault craft of I.O.'s beginning to disperse armored agents and floating drones. Mel's blue eyes widened, when she saw them closing in on the church that had some debris flying from it. Tapping her comm, she sends the warning, "Hey guys, you got tons of bad guys closing in on you!! Evac now!!!"

The heroes fighting at the church hideout heard Oracle's transmission, Cyclops and Nightcrawler are coming to help you get out of there. Abort, abort abort!! Get to the portal everyone, that place just got too hot."

Conner turned his head and focused on honing his attention to happenings on the outside. Superboy turned briefly to look to the others.
"Yeah, way too hot. Let's go."
He turned his gaze and started in the direction from which they entered the area.... where Nightshade's portal had previously been opened.

X23 glared at the fallen troops, and had half a mind to ignore her adoptive mother's orders and instead take everyone on by herself. After all, if the recon team was an example of who she was facing, it shouldn't be that hard... But as she watched the others leave, she went with them.

Ms. Marvel coughed and waved away some of the smoke from the grenade. She glanced around, not seeing the Professor. "Damn." She muttered. She flew down to stand beside the others. "Mine got away. Hope things went better down here."

Rogue pulled off one yellow glove with her teeth, as she ripped the helmet off one of the armored Black Talon, "At tha very least, we gotta know who's hittin us now. Ah hate doin this...."
Marie touched the unconscious agent's skin and immediately got the information from his memory. Dropping him in wide-eyed shock, Rogue turned to the others, "Yeah, we gotta get outta here. Sometin's worse than Stonewall after us now. Let's move! Cyke, give us some cover fahre!"
Rogue scooped up X23 in her arms and tapped her comm, "And Songbird, you bettah ghost honey!!
"Don't have to tell me twice. I'm.... Crap, the drones are on me!!" Songbird's reply could easily be heard by all.
In the shadows, Castel drew a molecular edged blade ready to lunge....
While both Rogue's and Carol's danger sense went off, Rogue couldn't do anything because her hands were full.....

Carol whipped around and blindly sent a blast of energy towards the area where Castel was hiding. "Rogue, who is that?" She asked as she saw him dive for cover.

X23 scowled at Rogue. She wasn't injured! Why was this woman trying to act like she was? She squirmed out of the other mutant's grip and continued on her own.

As X23 popped out of Rogue's grasp, Carols' blasts downed Castel. (I know Ms. Marvel's aim) He's a programed assassin from Stonewall, but..." Rogue turned her attention to X23, "These new guys ahre from I.O. These nutsos have been doin black ops since the sixties dealin with Super Powered Beins, as they put it. They got tons of these Black Talon guys and some piloted versions of mechs tha size and powahr of Sentinels. We-gotta-go."

"I was downing Sentinel mechs when I was six. Flying equivalents only amount to one thing in my eyes: Flying targets." X23 said coldly to Rogue, casting one last glare at the cathedral they had been in just minutes prior. This entire mission had been for nothing! So much for working in a team... the young mutant thought to herself as she moved. These "teammates" of hers seemed utterly incompetent, no matter how powerful they were. They relied too much on their powers, not enough on their own combat training (if, in fact, any of them had any at all), and that was what had led to Abbot and Suppai getting away, X23 surmised. She should have just gone in by herself, if this was in fact the sort of success rate she could expect from working in a team with other supers.

A sultry female voice echoed within the Black Talon's comm, "How in the Hell does this woman know anything about us!?!? Commander, I don't care what you do to the rest of them, capture the one with the Southern draw.... We need that one for questioning. Any of the others you capture is fine. If you can't capture, kill them!"
The Black Talon Commander tapped his comm, "Yes, Director. It'll be done." The Commander turned to his weapons officer, "You heard the lady, light 'em up!"

Both Carol's and Rogue danger sense went off, and Rogue dove with X23, "HIT THA DECK!!!!"
An explosion blasted half of the church away, followed by a barrage of energy blasts and missile attacks on those inside the ruined church. Moving to flank, were four heavily armored walking bipedal mechs aiming their weaponry ready for anything coming out of the church's ruins.
............
Songbird was weaving between buildings with combat helicopters chasing her. One got a lock on Mel's caripace and launched an air-to-air missile at the flying target. The pilot comments, "You just bought the farm, Sweetheart!"
Songbird heard then saw the incoming missile and tried to dive away, reinforcing her sonic force field - which held under the inpact of the explosion, "JESSUS!! THESE GUYS ARE NUTS!!!"

X23 cringed even as she hit the ground; the explosions and the constant blaster fire hurt her ears, due to her superhuman hearing. She opened one eye and saw the mechs, and briefly considered just rushing in and killing them with her own superior agility and skill. After all, she had been downing Sentinel-class mechs since she had been small. Four of them seemed like no trouble; in fact, were she to be smart about it, she could likely get them to destroy each other.
And that was just what she did. Under the cover of the smoke and debris, X23 rushed toward the closest mech. She unsheathed her claws, and leaped high, planting her claws firmly within the mech's own armor. Sure, it was dense, but X23 hadn't ever really had a problem with mechs before, and she wasn't about to start now. She was the perfect weapon... There simply could not be anything she was unable to handle. She forced her Adamantium-bonded claws deeper into the mech, and proceeded to climb in a way similar to a mountaineer, aiming to go for the head. If, in fact, the other mechs tried to fire at her, she'd simply leap off and let the mech take the damage, then rinse and repeat with the others. Simple.

While the pilot of the mech that X23 was climbing scream as she scrambled at the security controls, the two of the other mechs fired plasma bursts into the church to try to pin the occupants. The fourth mech extending metalic tentrills to entangle X23 and deliver a high voltage shock through direct contant to X23.
Rogue emerged from the hail of fire and tries to attack one of the mechs, making a flying charge at one of the knee joints -- knocking the affected mech down.

X23, sensing the extended arms coming for her, leaped off of the mech she was on and allowed the tendrils to attach themselves to the first mech, electrocuting the mech's systems and occupant to the point of inoperability. Meanwhile, X23 herself landed on the top of the tendril-mech and used her claws to slash at the top of the machine's "head", before smoothly sliding down and slashing at the elbow joint of one of the mech's arms.
