Most Kawani people are too terrified to even talk about this kind of Soquili. This kind of soquili is said to belong to the evil spirit Kalona (Pronounced Ka-Low-na ), from whom they derive their namesake. The Soquili that Kalona possesses have hideous wings and a cold stare. Even the pale-faces who have forayed into this land are fearful of these demon-horses, whispering their own theories as to the hellish origins of these terrible monsters. The only kind of soquili more feared than the Kalona are the skinwalkers.
Kalona are a varied race. Their wings are both bat and raven-like, and they have various possible horn-styles and devil-like tails. Some even have a standard horse tail as well, but it is theorized that these soquili are not as pure-blooded as those who bear the signature devilish or cat-o-nine tails. Unlike the cerynei, who also can bear a variety of paired horns, all Kalona bear actual horns, where as cerynei have antlers.
As for powers, they can harm with their claws and teeth. Some have even delved into black magic. Kalona soquili who follow the evil path to power, or their dark-version of elderhood, have kalona's evil spirit consume them even further than their brethren. No power comes without consequence and Kalona is hardly a charitable spirit.
OOCly, be certain to arrange with owners of other soquili about what they are comfortable with; do not God Mod
As a breed, Kalona Soquili tend to be malicious and evil. They are modeled after their dark god, Kalona, and many follow in his dark ways.
Love is a very rare thing for Kalona - though some may fake it for their manipulative purposes. Likewise, lifemating for Kalona is exceedingly rare. However, some bloodlines have become weaker or diluted over time and/or generations in the Kawani lands, and they deviate from the typical Kalona.
Stories say that kalona soquili have not always been in these blessed lands. Some claim that they originate in the same cursed underworld that True Skinwalkers call their homes, and that the evil God Kalona released some of them into these lands. Others say that Kalona himself twisted once-pure soquili into his image. Maybe both are true, maybe neither.
KALONA, THE Dark Spirit
Kalona Soquili derive their name from their dark god, Kalona. Kalona himself usually takes the form of a malicious raven who destroys crops and reaps evil upon whoever dares to cross him. He is among the most feared of the Cherokee entities. He was also known as the Raven Mocker or kalanu ahyeli-ski/kalona. The Raven Mocker robs dying people of their lives, and the mocker is said to look old and withered because of all the lives it has taken.
The Raven Mocker swoops down from the sky, arms outstretched, leaving a trail of sparks behind. The noise of its passing is a sound that sends trembles through the strongest heart. The sound presages the arrival at the homes of those who are sick or dying.
Sometimes a medicine man would be waiting outside the home to try to drive away the Raven Mocker. But the medicine must be strong, or else the Raven Mockers get inside the room where the ailing person is by turning invisible. Then they can frightens the sick person until the victim passes away, the ravens bringing back their essence to add to Kalona's power.
The Raven Mocker then eats the heart of the victim. This act will add the number of days or years they have stolen from the victim to the length of their own lives, keeping them refreshed so they can commit more evil. Since the Raven Mocker is invisible, and leaves no scar when it takes the heart, it is difficult to detect. If someone with strong medicine sees the evil spirit, the Raven Mocker will die within seven days.
