Sweat trickled down her features as she set the last one back down onto the pile. She had spent long hours going through every trident she could find--and there were many--around the Training Grounds only to find that none of them were her own. And now the sun had began to make its appearance.
Coline sat herself down onto the warm sand and sighed, staring out into the sea. She brought the back of her arm up to wipe the sweat off her brow. If her trident wasn't anywhere around here, there could only be one other place. She made a mental note to pay a visit later on after the morning prayer.

(( YAAAAY FOR SPAM!! Kay *ploinks down plushie format!* )) All good is hard, and all evil is easy. Dying, losing... Captain Jessie Hawk made his way languidly up the small slope to the training arena. Well, the pace was languid for him. It was probably a brisk walk for anyone else. He'd made a habit of scouting out the island every day, and the arena was his last stop before heading back to get the trainees out of bed. Everything was quiet, though there were some very rough waves blowing about, and the seagulls didn't seem very happy... he wasn't very fond of birds at the best of times. There were no such things in the depths of the world he came from, and they made him as unnerved as a bat would to a surfacer.
He stopped, more out of surprise than anything, as his keen low-light vision pierced through the early morning gloom. There was a girl sitting on the sand... a girl who was by now very familiar. A part of him reacted with 'Oh, not again...', but the rest of him felt a certain strangeness upon seeing her.
"Coline? What are you doing here this early?" ...Cheating and mediocrity are easy. Stay away from easy.

Her lids closed halfway as she watched the waves crash against the shore. It wasn't a particularly tranquil sight to behold, though it was enough to fool weary eyes such as hers. Coline's mouth opened as she yawned, her eyes moistening as she did so, only to be taken by surprise midway by a sudden voice.
She reached out immediately for the nearest weapon and turned to where the voice had come from. Her posture stiffened. It was the Captain.
"Ah! Sir! G-Good morning!" she exclaimed, unguarded, and released her hold on the weapon. It would take her a minute to realize how suspicious her setup had been. But she couldn't really admit to having stayed up all night just to search for her trident, could she? "I was just, uhh... taking a stroll...?"
Deciding it was best not to dwell on the subject, she spoke again. "D... Did you sleep well, sir?"

"I rarely sleep. And from the looks of things, neither do you. Have you been up here all night?"
After waiting a few moments for an answer, he sighed and turned his head away, regarding the turbulent ocean in the eerie half-light. The wind suddenly beat down around them, but he didn't flinch in the cold. Cold, darkness... he was used to them both.
He looked back at her, tone suddenly normal, if not pleasant. "May I sit down next to you?" ...Cheating and mediocrity are easy. Stay away from easy.
