As the wizard was casting a spell, Prometheus remembered a spell, that was effective against wizards.
"Hopefully this has an effect," Prometheus said to Erron, as he Summoned a swarm of insects, targeted at the wizard.

It was Chain Lightning.
The powerful spell arced forward, shocking through the first mate, killing the already wounded man who absorbed the brunt of the hit.
The lightning bolt swung back around as it found its next target: Erron, then Prometeheus, Ronus and finally Selce.
The damage dealt was moderate, minor, minor and minor. Prometheus' spell had just finished before the lightning struck him and a plague of insects soared in and swarmed around the wizard, constantly dealing minor damage to him and interrupting any further spell casts.
"Agh! Dammit! Call off these... infernal pests... I am the captain, I will do anything! Just.... get rid of these damn bugs!"

Prometheus was very happy with how his spell worked.
"Call off your men, and tell us where the relic is," Then an idea struck Prometheus, "And your rope, then I will call them off."

"Call off my.. men?"
The pirate captain swatted away another sting on his shoulder as he worked his way back to his feet.
"My men are all dead! The few that were on board were the only ones left! I.. have no idea why you're even here! You've ruined what little chance the Black Mast Pirates had at reforming! Look, bind my hands with the rope if you must, just end this blasted torment!"

Erron spoke up at this moment. "Actually all of your remaining men are still alive, er...except for the one you yourself fried" he said with a shrug. "We have some information that you may have attempted to steal an artifact from the church of trade last night, even though our informant was suspicious he was our only lead, now I feel he wouldn't have gone through the trouble of pitting us against each other unless he thought you could kill us or he thought we'd kill you, who may unwittingly hold some vital information."
Erron finished "What have you to say to that?"

"You... what?"
The pirate captain stared at the monk.
"An artifact... you mean the Scales? Indeed we were intent on stealing that item last night, due to the arrival of a particularly skilled new addition to our crew. However he turned on us when we arrived at Nidrasil's temple... He slaughtered most of my men and then took off with it."
The captain scratched his mustache and looked at the group.
"Actually, the elf never gave us his name. He just went by the alias: Talon. I would believe it would be because he used those strange cla-ACK-AGH-AH!"
Suddenly three sharp claws erupted from the pirate captain's chest, lifting him up into the air. Behind him stood the cloaked elf from the tavern, grinning wickedly.
"You should really learn to keep your mouth shut old man... It can lead to very bad situations. Heh," the elf threw back his cowl, revealing his shock of blonde hair and glowing green eyes before hurling the dead captain across the ship and into the wooden mast.
"Here," he pulled out a small gold trinket, the artifact, The Golden Scales, and tossed it to the floorboards." take it. This was an enjoyable little experiment. But, the time to play is over and I am needed back with the master. You really have captured his interest now. Particularly you, little human," he stated, pointing to Erron.
He smiled wickedly again before reaching into the folds of his cloak and pulling out a small walnut-sized black ball.
"Until we meet again, adventurers!"
With that, the elf threw down the ball and a cloud of smoke appeared instantly and by the time it had cleared, the elf was nowhere to be seen.

Selce dazedly stared at the elf. She knew the chain lightning had only hit with a slight bit of its strength but nevertheless she had to shake some stars away. Selce moved to grab the scales and walked back to Erron with them. "Anything feel different, you did take most of the lightning bite." She said to Erron. She held the scales up high. "All that trouble for these, I hope it has some magical property greater than what we already knew." She asked and began an identify spell.

Prometheus suspicions had been confirmed, but the little twist at the end threw him off slightly.
"Looks like you have an admirer," Prometheus said as he un-summoned the insects.
"Now I take it we give the artifact back, and then guard the merchants?" He questioned toward Erron, who obviously by this point, was the leader.

Erron coughed, a bit charged by the chain lightning bolt but otherwise unharmed, "I'm fine, the first mate took the majority of the spell: as it hit him first, thanks for the concern" he said smiling.
He went over to the captain's limp body and checked his pulse in a very futile manner: the claws had likely gone through one of his lungs and he was now fading fast, he motioned Ronus over quickly and asked him to do a prayer for the man's soul: he had become an unwitting pawn in a game that none of them fully understood: The Black Mast Pirates were likely no more.
Erron looked at the golden bauble with mild interest but felt that if it were important the elf would not have given it up so easily. "It seems the only thing they needed these scales for was to keep us pent up in the city until we did as they wanted." he concluded. "The priests will be glad to have this back, and its important to the town so yes, we'll give it back to them, get ourselves supplied and take the caravan to Trade"
He looked at Prometheus, Ronus and Selce apologetically "I don't know what I've gotten us into, but for now it seems we're leaves in the wind." He finished before he went into the captain's cabin hoping to at least find a map they could use for further plan their travels.

As Erron went searching for a map, Prometheus, then began searching for a weapon cache. Then a random idea struck him.
" Hey, why don't we just claim the ship as our own, seeing as the captain wont need it any longer," He cried out so everyone on the ship could hear him.

Strangely, just then as Prometheus made his declaration the ship began to groan wildly and shake in a violent manner. The lower decks were filling with water and it was already beginning to sink into the bay!

Prometheus stopped searching for a weapon cache, and immediately sprinted toward the plank, scooping up selce in mid-stride. Once he hit land, he let her down, and turned around to make sure Erron made it out.

Erron felt the boat shake as it started slowly sinking, he quickly went through the contents of the room grabbing a few scrolls that seemed as if they could be important before running out onto the deck and onto the plank and jumping from it onto the wooden docks, rolling as he hit the ground. He hoped that he might have grabbed something useful and not just travel logs.
He regarded Prometheus and Selce who were the first at the dock and Ronus who had just strode off of the boarding planks. "We should probably get out of here before the town guard catches us with the scales, while the elf was a fraud, he probably isn't wrong about them being suspicious of anyone caught with the artifact in their possession." He grasped his side, "Hopefully we can get a favor of some healing as well, that bolt hit me a bit harder than I had thought."

Selce had been caught by surprise as Prometheus had helped her off the deck. She shook her head. "I guess I was a bit more addled than I thought." She said with a slight chuckle. She watched Erron land and watched him grasp at his side. "Yes we better hurry the guards were probally bribed to be here soon, and Erron looks like a potion may do him good.
She walked over to him and offered a shoulder for support. "Need some help?" She asked and stared at the slight singe marks left over from the bolt.

Erron nodded gratefully at Selce "Thank you, lets get to town before the guard starts asking us questions we don't have answers to" The party made good time back to town and on its way to where the priestess had told them she would wait.
