a little expanation on the "hashem wanted the holocaust to happen" thing: Quote: before anything else is said, one ground rule must be established: Hashem wills everything. nothing is beyond His knowledge or influence. following that reasoning (and to deny it is to deny the entirety of the torah, and thus, judaism), of course Hashem caused the holocaust. but there are still those who find it hard to believe that a benevolent god could do such a thing to His poeple. so perhaps a more tangible explanation is neccessary. Hashem is described as both king of the world, and father to His poeple. imagine that situation in real life. how would the king treat his children? certainly no better than the rest of his subjects. in fact, he would probably expect more of them, and punish them more harshly, then he would others. after all, they must one day grow up to become princes and princesses, monarchs and rulers, and must act according. they are held to a higher level of reponsibility than others are, just by the nature of who they are, the king's children. in many ways it is a privelage, but in many others it is a curse. they always have the king's attention, but the other children are always jealous, and sometimes bully them. and sometimes the king sees fit to punish them for when they missbehave, so that they might learn from their mistakes. because they are the king's children, and they represent the king, and thus must act accordingly. it's not the most well written, but i feel it gets the point across sweatdrop

I don't believe in love at first sight. Love at first sight basically means "I want you in my bed" and nothing more. How can you trully love somebody you know nothing about? What if they're a killer, a druggie, a rapist, or just a plain idiot? What if they're a homosexual? You can't always know these things just by looking at people. I look pretty normal, and yet I don't have many friends IRL, and that's not a coincidence either.
Some people also seem to get worse the longer you know them. I swear my geography teacher was great the first week of the semester...

heh, oops; I guess I forgot to add my bit. xd sweatdrop
I agree with proudly- I don't think there really is such a thing as love at first sight. A romantic notion, yes, but one more based off of lust, desire, or physical attraction rather then truly caring for somebody.
I also agree that you get to know people the longer you know them, but you can also have people get better/warm up to you when you've been around them a longer amount of time.
Relating this back to Judaism (sorry- my bad, got kind of off topic here sweatdrop ) Does anybody know what Judaism says about dating and marriage?
xp sorry- my brain is exceptionally random today because I'm really tired and out of it

In judaism there is a main emphasis on the fact that the TRUE love is supposed to come AFTER marriage. In the secular world, you see couples that spend years together before they marry, or even worse, don't. In the case of Issac and rivka, the love was after the marriage - it says in the scripture - "and he married her, and he loved her". Notice the order in which it states it 3nodding .

I don't mean to be rude, but why would you marry somebody if you didn't care about her? Did Isaac still care about Rivka, but not technically to the point of "love?" Sorry- I don't know as much as I'd like about Judaism sweatdrop

I don't believe you can truly fall in love with someone the first time you see them, but you can also tell a lot about them from the first impression too. And if you think about it, it's the first impression that really influences how you think about that person, which makes it very important. That being said though, I really don't even bother trying to date someone seriously if I don't know them well enough. I like knowing that I can be friends with someone before we're more-than-friends. And now that the semester is over I can resume chasing the boy I like heart

I don't believe you can fall in love instantly, because love is something that takes time to develop... But I do believe it's possible to know, the first time you meet someone, that you _can_ fall in love with them.

What about the feeling where you get the message in your head: "She's the one..."? rofl . I mean, from hearing something she said, not nessecarily looks... 3nodding . Do you think someone should follow that instinct?
