Vanna blinked at her food, pushing the spoon around with tiny fingers. "Mmmm..." she hummed, trying to pick it up. When all the oatmeal fell back into the bowl, she pouted and shook her head.

"Nuh-uh...."

Voltaire looked thoughtful for a moment. He wasn't sure if he could show Vanna how to eat and Annjette was surprisingly enough shuffling in the food as if it was going to disappear any second. She seemed quite hungry today.

He left his bowl of oatmeal neglected for now and took up Vanna's spoon and got a bit of the food on the spoon and offered it to Vanna, "Think before I even can think to teach you how to use the spoon you should try some of this food to see if you like it. If not then we'll turn to the fruit."

Vanna leaned forward and ate the spoonful, albeit messily. Giggling, she clapped her hands and motioned for more.

After a very satisfying, if messy and giggly, meal, Vanna was about to settle down for a nice nap near Sparrow when there was a knock on the wagon door. Lorelei leaned, exhausted, against the doorframe, trying to stay awake. The wagon was safe, finally, and she could take Vanna home...

Voltaire answered the door blinking at the tired form of Lor. Annjette was idly petting Sparrow at the time in silence. Everyone was moved to the indoors for the moment so Voltaire could do some cleaning.

Vanna ate enough to have become drowsy again and thus she was laid down for a small nap.

"Everything better, Lor?" He stepped aside, "Come on in for a second and I'll get Vanna for you. She helped me and Annjette in nursing a bird back to health last night." He continued on as he stepped deeper into his home.

Annjette glanced up at Lor and tilted her head before saying softly, "H'llo Auntie Lor."

Lorelei stepped inside, smiling. "Yes, better. Though... I have a lot of cleaning to do. I take it Vanna didn't cause any trouble?"

While waiting for her daughter to be returned to her, Lor turned her attention to Annjette. "Hello, there. Did you enjoy having Vanna over for the night? Once I get things straightened up, maybe you could spend the night at our wagon, too!"

Voltaire laughed a bit, "No trouble at all, honestly. Her and Annjette kept each other mostly occupied, and Sparrow did as well. It was lovely to have her over." The half-elf didn't wake up Vanna, but rather picked her up and moved back to Lor.

Annjette beamed at Lor, "Would like that, Auntie Lor!" She said sounding quite enthused about the whole idea. She motioned down to the sparrow still laid out in his bed, "We call him Sparrow, so I guess that is his name now."

Lorelei cradled the sleeping child in her arms. "Well, I wish Sparrow the best of luck. I'm sure you're an excellent nurse, Annjette." Smiling, she headed for the door. "I'll see you two later - looks like it's nap time for Vanna and I."

Annjette grinned at Lor and waved at Lor and the sleeping Vanna. After waving them off she tended to Sparrow.

Voltaire followed Lor out for a moment to make sure the woman didn't stumble or hurt herself on the way out as Lor did look pretty worn out, "See you guys again soon, I am sure." The half-elf called out after them before returning into his wagon again to get things ready to spend a day outside tending to his wagon before they went on the move again.

Terrible Acts
I'm sorry...

"The color of her eyes
Were the color of insanity
Crushed beneath her wave
Like a ship, I could not reach the shore
We're all just dancers on the devil's dance floor"

Voltaire had just barely tore Annjette away from Sparrow's bed-box. He had managed to get her away by reasoning with her that sometimes animals rested best when left to their own devices. After all nothing could happen to it now that it was in their wagon. The swan-girl was still doubtful but she allowed herself to be taken out of the presence of the quickly healing bird.

Now Annjette rested on the blankets playing with the blocks and wooden toys Voltaire had set out for her to tinker with while he did maintenance to Clair d'Lune and brushed out Slaine for the next journey. The horse would only get dusty again, but there is no reason to add dust upon dust.

Annjette quietly hummed to herself idly as she clicked the toys together sometimes making little snatches of dialogue between the dolls and the blocks. Nonsensical child things but you couldn't tell her that. As nonsensical as the dialogue was even the lives of her toys were often a harsh one and filled with dark as much light, but on the surface it all seemed quiet and innocent.

While she was playing a small mouse scampered out from the rocks near by and fearlessly scampered right up to her flipper-foot and began to just sniff around. The girl didn't seem to radiate harm and thus the mouse obviously didn't feel need to stay away or run from her.

The girl stared at the mouse as it scampered around on her toys and her blanket and even brushed against her flipper causing a shiver to go up along her spine at the feel of the silk-soft fur.

The mouse paused and sat up on its hind legs and began to clean its face with its tiny paws unaware of the gradually unfriendly emotions sweeping through Annjette.

Annjette didn't usually hate or loathe anything living, but for some reason the mouse was irritating her, or perhaps it was something else and the mouse was going to get the brunt of it all as Annjette now sat and did nothing. Doing nothing allowed thoughts to flow in and observations to be more carefully considered.

The last ceremony was bittersweet and up until then she never really realized how dangerous she could be - potentially, and even now she had no real idea why she could be dangerous nor why. A pit grew in her stomach. Her papa though he stood by her side didn't stick up for her nor did he deny it.

Anger flowed through her like electricity, and the anger was followed by hatred. Hatred for everyone and it was now all aimed toward the mouse as she stared at it. Though staring at it did nothing. It could feel or understand her pain and her loneliness. Sure had more than one element to her ... but all everyone cared about her was the so-called dangerous Darkness within her. She wasn't bad, and papa even told her as much!

Annjette suddenly reached forward and grabbed the mouse which gave a startled squeak and began to bite and struggle.

The pain inflicted upon her by the mouse only caused the swan-girl to become even angrier and began to squeeze her hand around the mouse's body instead of letting the creature go. She didn't feel like herself anymore, but she couldn't stop either. She felt as if she had to do this. It needed to be done by her or through another means.

In her hands the bones began to crack and break. The mouse gave a very upset squeaking sound and blood began to pour from the animal's mouth.

"I'm not bad. I AM NOT BAD!" Annjette screamed finally dropping the now nearly dead mouse (it had long given up the fight to preserve itself) to her lap and thus staining her dress with droplets of mouse blood and the blood of her own hand mixed. Soon tears also joined the blood and some of the tears also fell on the mouse who was breathing labouredly.

Voltaire had stopped what he was doing and was over to Annjette in a brief moment of time after hearing her scream and then crying. Though what he saw he wasn't prepared for. Annjette clutched her wounded hand to herself as she wept over the broken form of mouse that didn't seem to have long for this world.

The ball of dread that had seemingly settled in Voltaire's gut was now back with a vengeance and lit on fire it seemed. He moved next to her and knelt as he hesitantly asked, "What happened, Jette?"

Annjette looked up at her guardian with tear filled eyes only to look again ashamed, "I-I-I-I KILLED THE MOUSE!" she wailed at the end of her confession as she hiccupped trying to speak again, "I-I di-di-didn't mean to!"

Voltaire's eyes widened a bit as he quietly picked up the mouse and looked it over and softly saying, "He's not dead yet, Jette. See he still breathes...Shh, calm down this can be fixed..."

He wasn't strong enough to magically heal his daughter or the mouse, but he would do what he could for both of them. Voltaire wordlessly lifted up the girl into his free arm and went into his wagon finding another box to put the mouse in. If nothing else they could have a nice little burial in which Annjette could at least apologize to the mouse for cutting its life short if she felt it was appropriate. For now they needed to see Valelldia.

"The apple now is sweet
Oh much sweeter than it ought to be
Another little bite
I don't think there is much hope for me..."

They were reaching the city. The ermine, of course, had no knowledge of this. It was content only to be what it was- a familiar chosen by blood, and turned to loyalty with the hideous hands of someone with a beautiful heart. It was lazy and happy, set with its ways and with the little girl it felt a strange connection to. Its days as a mouse- and being petrified- were as clouds wiped away by a wind.

The wind brought many things- and today, a gust of meij. The little ermine sat up when the tickling, silent music came past its nose. It squeaked- it bounced- but somehow, could not express what it needed to. Instead, it knocked over everything in its way to get to the basin of water that Voltaire kept in his wagon, pointing at it with its nose and squeaking and batting at the water with its paws.

Caroline had barely made it out of her wagon when she spies Clair d'Lune. Her memory is jogged--she hadn't seen much of either Voltaire or the lovely Annjette in some time. Curious, and just to make sure everything's alright, she heads for the wagon steps. She knocks firmly, making her presence known.

For a long moment only silence answered Caroline. It seemed at first that no one was home, but then suddenly the sound of life came from within. First head to poke out was Annjette peering at Caroline curiously. The swan-girl beamed a smile up to the woman. "Ms. Caroline!" she said happily, "is Ro here too?" the girl seemed excited to simply see Caroline and Rojiza likely would have been an added treat.

Voltaire soon popped his head out, obviously looming over his shorter daughter easily. He blinked his dark eyes once or twice, the color of the eyes seeming to shift into a bright cyan color as he recognized the person on the wagon's steps. "Caroline! Good to see you. Would you like to come in? Where is your little one?

"Och," says Caroline. "Well, I felt like going for a walk," she explains, deciding to answer both questions at once. "And Rojiza...declined to come with. She's been eaten by a book, it appears," she adds, winking at Annjette, who seems to grow more lovely each time she encounters her. She looks up at Voltaire, who almost looms over her as well. "It's been a spell since we've set with a cup of tea," she says. "I thought I'd check in, make sure evrathing's alright."
