Serenity thought about it for a moment. "I should be able to finish it today," she mused, "at least, if the boys keep sleeping and give me the time. If not, though, definitely by the next time we meet."
She glanced up at him. "You can move now, it's all right ... but no peeking. I want it to be a surprise."
She had added a little something extra to the painting, and she wanted to add even more ... but she wanted it to be a complete surprise for him, which meant that he wasn't allowed to peek.

He nods and he lets himself fall back onto the grass, stretching his arms high above him as he worked his shoulders that were tired from holding himself in that pose. "Mmm! Alright! I can't wait to see the end product!" He laughs softly and lets his eyes become half-lidded, finding being stretched out in the grass with the warm sun shining down in him rather.. relaxing.

Serenity smiled at Gaunt, admiring how relaxed and peaceful he looked. He just looked so ... comfortable. She had to resist the urge to crawl over and curl up next to him.
"Why don't you take a bit of a nap," she suggested, "and by the time you and the boys wake up, I'm sure I'll have the painting done. You look a bit tired ..."
Or maybe it was just her.
"And maybe," she added with a sly grin, "if I'm finished before you wake up, I might join you."

He smiles softly and he shrugs slowly. "I feel like I might as well. I can't peek at your painting, and the boys don't need to be watched over. There isn't too much left for me to do, unless you want to talk about something." He glanced her way. He would like to get to know her more, he just found himself lacking in specific questions he wanted to ask her.

Serenity smiled warmly, her eyes fixed on the painting now. "You could tell me about your family," she suggested, "or about yourself ... or I could tell you about my family, though I'd be finished the painting long before I would finish telling you about them."
She laughed softly. "There are so many of us ..."

His foot slowly taps in the grass as he thinks slowly. He shrugs a little and he laughs a bit. "I guess my favorite memories of my dad are being outdoors. We used to fish a lot. And golf a bit too. Though now he's an avid golfer and hardly fishes anymore. I'm burned out on golf but I still want to fish. At least fishing brings home some food, you know?"
"But I digress." He chuckles dryly at himself. "Fishing, some golfing, going to baseball games. Though I think I get my way of thinking from him, too. I tend to try to show people that I relate to them by talking about myself and my situations. I think it makes me sound self-centered, but all I'm trying to do is show that I understand. He likes to talk a lot about himself too, especially what he was doing when I was his age, and how he got to go on a lot of dates with girls and that sort of thing."
He shrugs slowly. "My mom, on the other hand, gets her attitude from her family. They always were kinda aloof with each other. They loved each other because they are family, but they never really bonded with each other it seemed. So usually when it comes to thinking about mom, I just think about how she goes to work, comes home, and sits and watches the TV until it's time to sleep. She doesn't really like to get out and do anything, so fun and memory-filled experiences tend to not involve her."

Serenity's eyes shadowed slightly. "That's a shame," she murmured. "Though I suppose I can understand. Mama's always done everything with us, took us everywhere ... and even when we first met Papa, he was always doing everything he could to help us out. Before he began courting Mama, he took Skye to the library with him, teaching her as well as he could since she couldn't go to a regular school. And he would take Shiro, since Shiro was bored in school all the time ... and everything he did, he gave up his own free time to help us children, and to help Mama ... and now that they're married, nothing has changed, except that now that they have the twins they don't have as much time to help the rest of us."
She smiled. "But most of us are older now, so we're fine on our own. And I have Ian to take care of as well. The younger ones deserve to have Mama and Papa give them the attention we all had at that age."

He shrugs a little, unaware that her look had darkened slightly. "It is a shame. But, each and every person is unique and comes from unique backgrounds. Sure, I don't have a lot of memories with mom, but she plays an important role. She takes care of the finances of the household. She makes sure we have a roof over our heads, that we have food on the table, and all that. Sure, its not fun and not necessarily memory-worthy, but it's vital none-the-less."
"I'm happy for you that your mom and dad both so involved in your life, at least early on. And you are becoming more independent." He paused thoughtfully and he slowly drew in a breath. "But I guess you've come to the age where maybe you want to stop cleaving to the love of your parents and want something more, right?" He slowly turned toward her, his eyes shimmering slightly in the sunlight. "I know I feel that way. I want a love that goes beyond a parent's love for a child and a child for a parent."

Serenity supposed that he must have just been used to his relationship with his mother, but she was glad that she had the relationship that she did with both of her parents. Still, she smiled at his final comments. He was right ... she was looking beyond her parents, and beyond her siblings, and even, for the first time, beyond Ian.
Finished, the first part of the painting, she set her brush down to let the canvas dry, then sat back and looked at Gaunt. Immediately, her gaze was caught by his, trapped by the warmth in his eyes.
"Perhaps," she murmured with a smile, rising to her feet, "there's a chance that we just might find that." She moved slowly over to him, her movements graceful as she stepped over the boys, and then she sat down beside him and leaned over him, placing one hand on the ground on the other side of him to brace herself.
"And just perhaps," she added, her eyes also sparkling brightly now as she leaned down closer to him, "we might just find it together."
Who knew?

He blinks when she puts her brush aside and got up. He smiles when she starts to move toward him and leaned herself over him. He lifted his arms so they linked behind her shoulders and he smiles as he looks up into her warm eyes. "Mmm. I think I've already found it. Even if this doesn't work out in the end, I think I've found that different kind of love." His eyes slowly closed as she leaned in toward him, his face turning more toward her as he sought her kiss.

Serenity felt Gaunt's arms pulling her closer to him, and she smiled warmly, bending her elbow so that she would indeed be able to lean closer to him.
"I suppose," she murmured softly, almost in a whisper, "that only time will tell."
She closed her eyes and lowered her lips to his, kissing him slowly, and then she put one hand on his cheek and added a bit of pressure, a bit of teasing; and then with a final quick kiss on the corner of his mouth, she raised her head again and brushed her thumb lightly over his cheek.

He kept his eyes closed through the kiss, and kept his head raised slightly after it ended. He didn't want it to end. It felt too good, but it was all too finite. He sighs slowly and he slowly opened his eyes, whispering softly. "And until the time comes where we decide what this is, exactly, I will cherish every moment we have together. And from then on, I will either look on these moments with fondness, or look forward to an eternity with you."

Serenity's eyes shone brightly and she brushed Gaunt's hair away from his face lightly with the tips of her fingers.
"As will I," she replied sincerely, leaning forward to kiss his forehead this time. "Our time together has already become the one thing that I look forward to most."
And she sincerely hoped that nothing would happen to change that.

"Mmn.. Dad? Are you and Serenity wrestling or something? I've never seen two people wrestle so quietly." The sleepy voice of the Prince sounded before Gaunt could respond. Oh well, the moment was nice while it lasted.
Gaunt blinks and he looks to the side at Prince. He dind't seem to be ashamed to be caught like this and he laughs softly. "Mmm. Something like that, Prince. A special kind of wrestling." He laughs softly and he softly strokes Serenity's hair. "Something only boyfriends and girlfriends, as well as husbands and wives should do."

Serenity blushed, but she laughed softly, sitting back a bit, but still close enough that her hair was not taken from Gaunt's fingers.
"Did you have a good nap?" she asked the Prince with a smile. "You seemed pretty tired."
It looked as though Ian was still asleep, though that didn't surprise her - he was quite the sleepyhead after all.
