X is definitely superior as far as plot and complexity go, but I think X-2 is also great in its own way. Sure, there are certain aspects that I wish were expanded upon (the Machina war 1000 years ago, Trema and the Seekers, the politics of Spira), but I didn't have any major problems with it. The gameplay was fun and I liked the battle system. Collecting dresspheres and garment grids was fun, and I liked being able to decide what jobs the characters had.
I kind of reasoned out why the characters are different. I think Yuna wants to leave the painful memories of her pilgrimage behind, and so is trying to be like Rikku (hence her more bubbly personality). But she's also chasing memories of Tidus, and I think X-2 is really about her growing as a person and learning to be independent. Rikku is trying to cheer her up and that's why she acts so goofy. I personally don't bring Tidus back because I want Yuna to accept that he is gone and live her own life.
Brother was a little annoying, though. I would have liked to see him a little more complex, but eh, love does crazy things to people.
It's goofy and corny, but you just have to accept it for what it is and not compare it to the prequel.

It's goofy and corny, but you just have to accept it for what it is and not compare it to the prequel. I agree with your reasonings as to why the characters changed. Also, I think without the fate of the world resting on them (at least for most of the game), they weren't always caught up in doom and gloom thoughts... But I still don't like it! They went overboard. I see Yuna trying to be a bit cheerier and more outgoing, but they ought to keep her overall personality intact. I like that Tidus came back, but just 'cause I love happy endings. I love Brother. He's annoying, but not in a way that... Annoys me. Of course you have to compare it to the prequel! It builds on X, picks up where it left off, and if the sequel worse, it degrades the whole thing. I've said it before and I'll say it again, though: I love X-2's battle system, dresspheres and the rest, and it was a really pretty game, but it's not enough for me to give the game an overall great assessment. I don't think it sucks, but to me, it's not quite up to Final Fantasy standards.

Are you guys still argueing with this.....ok first off X-2 sucked mostly as everyone seems to agree on. The battle system being the best in the ff series. The perfect Ending is a showing of Tidus coming back and everyones happy yay.....The yuna and rikku whore style also ruined it.. period.

I like both of them I was just disappointed with X-2 because I find it to be to easy. I like a challenge and I didn't get it from this game X was more challenging out of the two of them. But I like them both because the story lines were both really interesting and we got to learn more about the character themselves in X-2. But still really disappointed about how easy it was but besides that it's a really great game.

I don't think it really makes 10-2 look bad. You know, people in real life change gradually or sometimes even immediately. It can be after big events or over the course of time. The people and the history of 10-2 just changes, like real life...only it's magical. Yuna changed, Rikku changed a little too, and they made a new friend, etc...
Things happen.
My biggest beefs about X-2 are that you have to play with the same 3 characters in every single battle except for those special battles where it's just one character you're playing as (in that cave), and that Tidus isn't there...but that's also a beef about 10 where he disappears.

Nightmare Zero 07 i like x more then x-2 it is long have more of a story If you go for the 100 percent ending for X-2 or even close to that, it's actually pretty long and has a really long and developing story. Now if you just go from one hotspot to the next or just follow the quick storyline for a quick ending...yea, that's kinda boring and kinda quick and kinda pointless.

Yeah, people do change. However, even in the off-chance that she could have changed that dramatically, it's not the Yuna I loved when I met her. She may as well have been a different person anyway.
There is certainly more story if you go through all of the sidequests, but most of the sidequests are still completely pointless. I personally don't think length matters so much as what that extra time consists of.

They're not mostly pointless if you're going for the 100% ending. I found out that each little/most of them at least/ sidequest had some sort of point when it came to adding percentages. The hardest one's the dungeon though, and I'm considering giving up on trying to beat the ultima elemental or whatever that thing is and just taking what ending I get.
