^^; My Wiccan name is KoofWa.. I made up the name when I was seven.. About ten years ago.. Although I didn't know much about Wicca.. I just found that name and fell in love with it.. It's kind of special to me in a way that I can't really describe.. And I use it all the time. And it's pretty unique.. Plus "Koof" is the thirteenth letter of the Alef Beis (Hebrew) and it stands for kedushah, which means holiness.. I didn't know all of that when I was seven, so.. Yeah. I'm not so sure about the "Wa" part though.. To me the "W" has always been capitolized ^^
But I live in Washington, so that might be the relation.. So Holiness and Washington.. ^^; Kinda weird, but it fits me..

Heh...interesting Holiness of Washington...

I was wondering if anyone knew the process of choosing a Wiccan name...is there some kind of numerology or mythology I should follow or just pick what feels natural among the millions of names and words out there? Does anyone know of a Wicca choosing name site or something like that?

The more open your mind is to the Great Spirit, the more ways there will be to find your Wiccan name.

So, in my weeks (months?) of sporatic and minimal posting, I have been doing immense research. Regarding this topic, I have found:

Nowhere in Gardner's* teachings of Wicca does it state that you need to pick a craft name. It has NOTHING to do with Wicca. This is a common misconception

However, in WITCHCRAFT, the very historic use for a "craft" name was to hide your identity, especially with possible persecutors around. So... if anyone feels the need to have a "craft" name, it should be secret now, shouldn't it?

But, all things considered, you can have a nickname/alternate identity, if that is what makes you feel powerful. But note, as most Wiccan/Witchcraft authors will state, putting your "magic" into a single entity (whether it be your lucky athame, cauldron, name, all the above, etc.), is really frowned upon. You are, in essence, limiting yourself.

I, of course, don't mean to be bursting 13 pages of bubbles here, but I'd like to think that I can help bring this forum into enlightenment and away from foolish games o.o

*Gardner. Gerald B. Gardner (only for those who are reading this and wondering what the hell I am talking about): the Founder of WICCA, approximately 50-60 years ago. Yes, Wicca itself is a new religion only BASED on older ones like Paganism, and can (but not necessarily HAS to) have connections to Witchcraft.

Hm, then it isn't Wicca I'm thinking about. Thanks for clearing that up but I do remember once reading something about magical names that people are born with and must find.

Its a magic lore that belongs to wizards and that such that allows you to have power over anybody if you know their magical name...its something they would only share with the people they trust.

Isn't it kinda interesting? o.o Anyway, Luck-In-Spades is pretty much correct.. You don't need a name.. Although I picked my name because it somehow gave me special feelings.. Almost like it belonged to me and only me.. ^^ I'm sure each person has their own feelings like this.. So if you do find a name that you use for either hiding your identity or other reasons, make sure it feels right.

Yes, wizards acquire several different names in their life, the ones that your parents give to you, and if they are magickal folk, they may also give you a seining (baby blessing), Another name is given during a rite of passage, (usually from childhood into adolescence, 11 - 13) which usually includes a challenge, then one would recieve their circle name, their name to be known amongst other magickal folk, but not Mundanes. Then one might also recieve a use-name to be used amongst friends. So you may have a use-name at the moment, but one cannot attain a true magickal name until a Rite of Passage or an initiation by a mage. This is all according to wizardry though. I don't think choosing a Wiccan name is required though. Hope that helps shed some light on things.

Wow. Well in that case, I don't have a Wiccan name. Or I do, but no one knows what it is now that I've changed it.

What I find awkword is that if someone tells me to pick a number, I would always choose 42. I don't know why, but I just did. It had a catchy ring to it I guess. Anyways, I've had people go and tell me, why do you always say 42? I just replied that I don't know, that I just have always been obsessed with the number you could say. Then their response would be "did you know that the number 42 is the answer to the universe?" Now, I still to this very day have not found out why about this gifted number, but I always found it fascinating.

Now, about My name. As I have said before, I am not Wiccan. Yes I do think about converting, but This is serious, and I need to make sure I fully understand this religion. I research religions in which are considered the "occult" relgions, and I find a lot of pride out of them. Its a hobby.
Anyways, I used to play this live action Role playing game called amtgard. It reanacted Mideval times. I needed a persona to it, and I didn't know what I wanted my name to be. I had a freind that helped me with the names and such, and he said the name Fenix. I love the name. I always have. I have created characters based on this name, and like I said, I just love it. I have thought about the whole wiccan naming thing. Of course I have mentioned earlier I am not Wiccan, but I have thought about converting to it. If I were to, which I am seriously debating on it, I will choose the name Fenix, of course there will be more than just that. I need to make sure no one else has chosen the name and such, but I know that it will be based around that.
