Suddenly at the door there was a gentle knock. Serenity and Beren had returned from their trip exactly on schedule, and, seeing that there was smoke coming from the chimney of the previously unoccupied house, they knew that Lore and Elnara had come and decided that they would pay them a visit before returning to the ranch.
Both of them were excited to see their children (in an odd sense of the word, considering Beren's reincarnation, as well as the fact that Lore was older than both Serenity and Beren put together).

Before Lore could assure her that her sleeping habits would not affect him, the knocking interrupted him just as he was opening his mouth. He closed it, and turned looking a bit surprised. They hadn't been expecting any visitors, at least not yet.
"Hmm..." Lore got up from his seat, "I'll get it."
Leaving the ktichen and entering the hallway he wondered who could be caling. Maybe Ulani he at first thought, until he opened the door to see Serenity and Beren standing there.
"What a surprise!" Lore smiled wide and step asided, "Come in, come in. Perfect timing."

Elnara was also curious about who could be knocking at their door - since they hadn't had anyone come this early to see them before - and she nodded at Lore as he went to answer it. While he was gone, she tried her best to eat at least a bit of her breakfast ... it smelled delicious, and she knew that she had done a better job of making it today than most other days (not that other days were bad, it had just been a good morning in the kitchen), and she knew that she needed her energy if she wanted to get better from ... whatever it was that was ailing her so.
At Lore's surprised tone, her brow furrowed slightly. "Who is it?" she called, lowering her fork again and rising from her chair to see for herself.

Serenity smiled widely and stepped inside, hugging Lore as she passed him.
"It's so good to see you again," she beamed. "I hope the two of you are doing well - how long have you been here? How do you like it?"
"Or more importantly," Beren interrupted with a grin, following Serenity inside, "what do you mean about it being perfect timing?"

"Well come see!" Lore laughed back.
It would be a nice surprise besides he was floundering in what to call the two. They were her parents... but they were his in laws. He hadn't quite decided that yet.
Lore chuckled at Beren, "We had just sat down for breakfast, and well Elnara had mentioned you both would be back today. So the timing was perfect, we've been here.... about one elven month. The house has been wonderful and the visit has been amazing."

Elnara had to pause for a moment and put one hand to her head to stop a sudden dizziness, but she breathed deeply and within a moment it had passed and she was back to normal once more. Without hesitation, she hurried to see who it was who had come to see them, who would put such a tone into his voice.
"Mother!" she cried happily when she saw their guests. "Ada! You're back!"
She ran forward and threw her arms around Serenity's neck, hugging her tightly.

Serenity laughed and hugged Elnara warmly. "Yes," she giggled, "we're back. Finally."
She took a step back and held Elnara at arm's length, looking her up and down, examining her.
"And you're looking as beautiful as ever," she beamed happily. "I can see married life has been good to you."
She cupped Elnara's chin in her hand and tilted her head first one way, and then the other. "There's something ... different about you," she murmured softly. "I don't know what ..."

Lore wondered absently if Serenity noticed maybe any affects from Elnara's sleep and eating changes. After all he lived with her now, so any differences there could be he wouldn't notice them, and he knew this. Compared to Serenity who hadn't seen her daughter in a long while.
"Different?" he couldn't help ask.

Elnara wanted to protest that she didn't feel any different than usual, but it would have been a childish one and she knew it clearly. She had been feeling different of late, there was no denying that. Instead, she didn't even bother to deny it.
"How do you mean?" she asked her mother, hoping that her sleeping troubles weren't showing, or that she hadn't lost an obvious amount of weight from her new eating habits.

Serenity lowered her arms and tilted her head to one side, still scrutinizing her daughter.
"I don't know," she murmured. "I mean ... you've got this ... glow ... and you look tired, but ... I swear your eyes have never been so bright ..."
Suddenly her hands flew to her mouth and her own eyes grew wide with excitement. "Elnara, are you pregnant?"

"Wait what!?"
If there was any question that would have come out of Serenity's mouth that was the last question he would have expected. He looked at Elnara, and then at Serenity and then back at Elnara before looking gapping at Serenity.
Until his brain told him to close his mouth before the flies flew in.
Technically... when he thought about it, it was possible.

Elnara blinked, as surprised as Lore was, though she showed it through stunned silence rather than crying out. But when she thought about it ... to be honest ... it was possible ... after all, they had been there a full month already, two Gaian months ...
A faint blush sprinkled her cheeks, and she cleared her throat awkwardly.
"I suppose it's possible," she admitted, looking over at Lore and suddenly feeling a little shy.

Serenity laughed heartily.
"Come now," she grinned at the two of them. "I've been through eight pregnancies, I know the signs. Not to mention, the rate kids are born here - most of the people around here would know them! Maybe not to speak of, but in general."
Beren chuckled softly and moved to stand behind Serenity. "I'm afraid I have to agree," he grinned. "Lore, you've written medical journals or whatever ... have you never written on pregnancies before?"

Well that would certainly explain the nagging feeling he knew what was going on, but honestly he didn't even think to consult the fact that Elnara could be pregnant!
"Well.... uhm..." he blushed at the idea.
Actually he hadn't written on pregnancies (thank goodness) but having to learn the medicial process he certainly read enough about them to know that this was very true!
"I've... learned... yes," Lore admitted, "It just didn't occur to me..."
That it would have happened so quickly.

Suddenly the reality of the situation hit Elnara full-force, and a second wave of dizziness passed over her momentarily. It was soon gone, however, and she skipped over to Lore and threw her arms around his neck, hugging him as tightly as she could.
"A baby," she squealed into his chest, her eyes even brighter now than they had been before. "Can you believe it? We're going to have a baby!" She laughed, unable to contain herself. "It's what we were hoping for!"
