kacisko Not quite, Mega. I really prefer the megapowers fight it out who's better during olympics in stadiums rather than in a nuclear war. Sure, there's cheating involved. But honestly - it's mainly people who cheat, not the whole nations. Even Norwegians may try to cheat which is a huuuuge disappointment. The point is - there's too much to win for some to stop the temptation from taking its role. Plus, looking from the point of view of smaller nations - olympics are the only way for them to note their existence to everybody. Look at Russia/Georgia, the olympics aren't going to stop countries from carrying out war on one another.

I was referring to wars between megapowers, not local wars that each megapower carries on, like US in Iraq, Russia in Chechenia (sp?) and Georgia, China in Tibet.

Oh, I see, but I'm sure if two megapowers wanted to fight each other, the olympics wouldn't stop them.

Gravechylde Oh, I see, but I'm sure if two megapowers wanted to fight each other, the olympics wouldn't stop them. True. Especially if there's not enough water somewhere - that's the serious threat. Nevertheless olympics remind everybody that there's something more than war in this world. Plus, as I said, you may learn that some smaller nations have something worthy too.
