Tristan KaneTristan turned around to see Jessica sit down. "Are you alright?" He quickly moved from his chair and knelt down in front of her -making sure she was alright.
"I don't know if I told you this, but I haven't been here in eight years. I know it isn't a lifetime, but it certainly feels like one." He sighed at the idea of a lifetime. "After receiving my career when I stole my ship and -"
He felt his heart ache slightly but continued, "-and with the death of Leo's wife and child. I guess I was too ashamed to come back."
He looked down at the ground and found that he had overwhelmed himself. He then looked up at Jessica with regret. "I'm sorry to burden you with my past."

Jessica smiled softly as she gently ran her finger down his cheek, "Its not a burden, I see so much pain in you everyday and I want to help you to take away a little of that pain," she said in a calm voice.
She looked away fro a second before decideing that she was going to trust him, "I understand pain and loss," she said as she gently moved her hands to her lap and fiddled with her fingers a little nerviously and more than a little worried.

Tristan KaneTristan found sincerity in Jessica and smiled. "Thank you." He was extremely moved that she would wish to take away his pain.
He reached out to hold her fidgeting fingers. "I would like to remove your pain also. If I can." He looked at her and hoped that their new-found understanding would bring them closer.

Jessica looked up at him with a faint glow at her cheeks, "T-thank you Tristan," she said and smiled kindly, "so, why don't you tell me what happened, why did you run away and why do you hate this place so much?" she asked as she gently twisted her hand so she could gently hold his.

Tristan KaneTristan accepted Jessica's hand and gathered his thoughts. "I suppose it started when my father built a ship. I stole it from the aristocratic boors that it was meant for in an attempt to salvage my father's masterpiece. I stole this ship and got it out of the harbor of the mainland on my own -but I was naive.
I had no crew after all. Needless to say, I was caught. The men whom I had stolen the ship from wished me hanged, but the General thought of me as a promising child with potential for great wealth for himself and his country. Therefore, I was given two options: the gallows or a life sentence as a captain of my very own ship.
I was young and as I had never amounted to anything of any significance in my life at that point, I accepted what I believed to be a generous offer.
I was blind-sided; however, to the conditions of my agreement. My duty was to keep the seas clear of "trash" like myself. I was chosen because of my skill -for being the first man to steal an entire ship without a single accomplice. I was told that I "thought like a pirate" and therefore, my job would be simple.
I was no longer interested in the bargain so I took my father's ship and my newly acquired ship and fled back to Jad-Bal-Ja. Unfortunately..." Tristan took a deep sigh , but continued.
"The crew was made of men far older than I and they did not agree with the my selfish ideals -there was mutiny. My only ally was Leo. He stood by me, though all the while he told me I had been going about everything the wrong way. I did not listen.
When we reached Jad-Bal-Ja, my family as well as Leo's were there and waiting. My father was not as happy to see me as I had hoped and I don't blame him.
The General and his crew were on their way and there was no hiding -so we waited. Upon the General's arrival my father wasted no time in turning me in. Leo, too, was willing to go quietly but his family were not so satisfied with his fate. I encouraged them to meet with the General and order for our release. Leo's son was shot before his mother could speak a single word. Leo broke out in agony and another shot was fired. This time, it was Leo's wife at the end of the General's bullet.
The General had all the power here and he and his crew put fear in the people of Jad-Bal-Ja. Leo was distraught, but I managed to get him back to the ship were we received more lashings and tortures than I can recall and began our duties." Tristan's eyes were now full of sadness but he did not shed a tear -for he was not that kind of person.
"I do not hate it here. This is my home and I love it, but..." He stopped for a moment as his memories reentered his mind.
"I need to atone for all the wrongs I have done. I cannot face my father until I am freed of this guilt."

Jessica listened quietly stroking her fingers over the back of his hand, she flinched a little when he said his job was to clear the seas of 'trash,' that trash was her people and she did not need reminded that he had basically kidnapped her. She felt a weight being added to her heart when she heard the way that Leos son and wife had been killed, she gently bit her tongue a little, she looked up at him slightly, unable to understand why someone could not get along with their father, she never saw hers but she loved him so much that it hurt.
She dropped her head back down so she was staring at her knees, she could feel tears in her eyes and she wondered what it was about these people that allowed her to cry, she had never really cried when she was around her father.
"Tristan I think I can understand a little of how you feel, but you were only a child, you couldn’t have understood the consequences of your actions most children do stupid things without thinking about what will come from their actions, believe me I understand that better than most people," she said as she pulled her hand from his slowly not really wanting to let go but knowing she could not let herself get attached to him.

Tristan KaneTristan sighed and nodded. "I was a child." He allowed her to pull her hand away without any trouble and simply put his hands to his side. "That's no excuse and it doesn't change what I did."
Tristan looked into Jessica's eyes. "Thank you for listening to my troubles." A smile appeared on his face, but his eyes still held a deep sadness.

Jessica smiled faintly aslo before she used her cruches to push herself back up and she stood looing down at him quietly, "I think I'll head back in now, its late and I need to get some sleep," she moved quietly back into the house but stoped at the door and looked back at him, "Tristan, once we're back at sea, I mean, If I see my father would you let me go?" she asked quietly.

Tristan KaneAfter Jessica stood and turned to leave, Tristan stood also. He heard her speak her question and had admittedly never thought of it.
"If you wish to return to your father, then I will not detain you."

Tristan KaneTristan was shocked at Jessica's question. The door at the end of the corridor. He had almost forgotten about it.
"Behind that door are stairs. They lead to a small room, but there isn't much in there." Tristan then approached Jessica and stood next to her. The sadness had not left his eyes but he had calmed now.
"That room belonged to Leo's son."

"Oh," she said softly and looked down, "I will not mention it again, good night Tristan," she said and suddenly she placed a hand on his cheek and pressed her lips to his other. She pulled back and blushed before she made her way upstairs as quickly as she could.
