Anzu wanted him to follow him so Conan naturally started running after Anzu. ok Conan this is it you can do this. Time to face fear and show Anzu-sensei what i can do. Conan hoped that he could impress Anzu even if it was just a little. Senju’s are supposed to be strong and Conan hoped that was true with him as well. As Conan ran through the streets staying as close as he could to Anzu Conan wondered what the spiders they were going to find were indeed the same as he pictured. Shaking his head Conan knew that he was making it worse for himself. stupid imagination... ok its fine just think of something not scary or a spider at that instant Conan mind wandered to such a extent that he imaged Jin was making out with Yusei. Much better Conan thought as a large smile on Conan happily ran through the streets with no fear left in him.

Jin fazed out for a moment not realizing everyone was leaving. "Wait for me ." Jin said as he rushed off to follow them. "Lets go boy. finally our first mission." jin said to Kyo as the two raced off to the forest with the rest of the team wondering what adventure they would have and what knowledge they would gain. Jin wondered how Conan-kun would fair. He might just be an academy student but i bet hes alot stronger than he looks. Jin thought as he left the senju estate with Kyo not far behind.

At the gates, Melediana knocked the great bronze Tiger-head shaped knocker. Perhaps some other time she would've taken to admire the beauty of this place - the Senju had quite a sense for decor, all of this quite the traditional kind but not today. Though she had healed the skin injuries, Melediana carried none other than Akuma Lula in her arms. ... Not bothering with trying to reach the knocker again, she raised her voice. "Senju! I request an audience!"

"Coming, coming...geez..." Footsteps and a tired voice from inside. "Goodness, who on earth is seeking an audience at this ungodly hour...?" The great gates creaked as they swung open and Melediana would find herself staring into the face of Senju Ryuko. She had been fortunate...a main family member had bee near the courtyard and had come down to open the gates. Ryuko blinked.

"Melediana-san? What's up...surely..." But the sentence of 'the village is not getting attacked, right' halted as silver eyes settled on the child the Jounin woman was holding. "Come in."

---

She would not know her way around the compound, but Ryuko had taken them directly to the main family's quarters. He awoke Hanami (though Haru was sleeping peacefully through the whole racket he made). Touka instead, was rudely awakened by his - futile - attempts to awaken Haru. And so, one half asleep Senju (Touka), one fully alert Senju (Ryuko), and one confused Senju (Hanami) tended to Lula.

Steps up from the Gates

Courtyard

To the Main House

The House of Senju

"You did well healing her. She should be fine." Murmured Hanami, her hovering, faintly glowing palm moving over the child's body. "I don't think there's any more injuries..." After a long moment, just to be sure, Hanami's palm lost its faint green glow.

"It's probably best if you don't leave the child's side..." Piped up Ryuko. "Her house was empty, you say? That's pretty lonely...after getting hurt like that..." He looked thoughtful, twirling a lock of curly brown hair. The hospital was closed to receiving patients at this hour... "This place is huge anyways. Why don't you two stay here for the night?" He conveniently neglected to tell her this was the main family quarters...knowing very well Melediana would decline if she had known.

Who cares of the Elders and their feelings. A friend was a friend.

---

Ryuko showed them to the room next door to his (they had been gathered in his room). To the right was his room, while to the left of the guests' room was Shiro's. To the right of his, would then be Haru, Touka, and Hanami's individual chambers (in order). Anzu slept in the head family's quarters.

It was a lovely room...though vast, more European castle chamber-like in that sense...and decorated in the traditional style (with hand-painted screens) and sliding wooden screen doors. The room was furnished, from fine wooden boarded floors to a small shrine on the wall dedicated to the thousand-armed goddess, Senju Kannon, and all but it seemed that time had caught up with the Senju clan. Though there was traditional furnishings and redwood furniture - there was even a Kaya goban at one side of the room, with tatami mats, kaya bowls and slate and yuki shell stones - there was also very apparently, a bed and the more modern furnishings (night table and etc.).

Gently, she laid Lula in bed, before pulling swan-dawn blankets over the child. The Senju teens were kind enough to bring an extra sleeping tatami mat for her, as well as blankets in case the night gets a bit cold. Though apparently, this place had always been well ventilated and there had never been a need to develop a heating system or install air conditioning. It was comfortable, highly so...above there was a lovely fan made of some sweet-scented wood, each of the three pieces carved into some sort of leaf...

An orb like lamp was in the center of the fan, and when opened lit the chambers softly with a warming glow. The red wood seemed to radiate a light of their own - several windows too, she noticed - but instead of glass paned with the same material used for the screens. There was a gorgeous phoenix and dragon statue...she almost sat back in surprise as, when she touched the orb the bird clung in its claws, warm light flooded out. Besides the bird, the orb in the dragon's claw too gave light...

Lamps...? She tapped the orbs again and again, three times in total (there had been different levels of intensity) until the lights went out. Melediana would later learn clapping, or tapping her feet loud enough, would amount to the same effect with the curious statue-lamps.

There was a small door, that led outside...a balcony? Though it was dark, she could clearly see the path from the estate grounds to the pavilion should she tilt her head and if she looked straight, a gorgeous view of the pavilion water gardens. Her strong sense of smell caught the scent of blooming sakura - as strange as it was, though the rest of the village's sakura groves were sadly, the flowers were dying from the repeated rains. But it was always eternally spring here, in this place...

She briefly noted Touka entering the chambers, carrying an incense jar on chain. She shook the incense jar, pacing around the room.

"It's for chasing away bad spirits." The girl explained.

Quite superstitious, aren't they? A smile greeted Melediana's curious look. But the scent was pleasant...

"Burning this type of wood calms the nerves." Continued Touka. "She'll be able to sleep peacefully, and so would you." Thus having said such, she detached the golden incense jar from the chains and placed what's left of it onto Senju Kannon's little shrine on the wall. She lit two of the incense sticks she was holding, before placing them into the jar.

"Good evening, Melediana-san..." Said the girl, as she drifted out, the wooden screen doors slipping close. "Pleasant dreams."

Her jaw never relaxed. It was clenched so tightly that her neck was standing out, but her pulse was gradually slowing... Her body felt like it was shifting in Melediana's hands, and she was racked with tremors.

Lula didn't know where she was, and once again, she still didn't care. She was numbly aware that there was a reason to pretend to be fine... But she couldn't... At least she wasn't screaming...

Her fingers wound through Melediana's without her conscious knowledge... Her eyes opened and her pupils rolled down form her skull. Her eyes seemed both greener and duller... Far away...

Her lips parted around her grit teeth, and Melediana would see for the first time --since her encounter with Kyuukyoku-- her teeth.. Her canines were larger... They were longer, and they were all too familiar a sight to Melediana... Her breath came in pained rasps, and the pain was communicated through her eyes. She looked like an animal that had to choose between life and food. But she didn't even know she had to make the choice... She was too young for this... It could have , --maybe even should have-- been years before she made this transition, and heaven knows it shouldn't have been this violent.

Her eyes just stared balefully into Melediana's, a tear running silently down her cheek, while her mind was elsewhere, trying to escape. She tightened her fingers around Mel's, but she couldn't find relief. She wasn't so much pained anymore... She was thirsty. She was so thirsty that it hurt her entire body. And she didn't know what she wanted, so her mind ran away form the problem. She was as much in control of herself right now as a stone in control of its flight path.

Thank the stars for the small things. Speaking of small things... Her tattoo was gone. Not as if it had been removed.. But as if it had never been there... It had been a seal? For what?

Something was horribly wrong...

Even though the incense should've had calming effects, even though Hanami could not find any physical injuries...it seems Lula was still hurt... As if...as if... A memory flickered, of the repeated fevers she herself had suffered during...that... It couldn't be, or could it? Lula, such a bright child...she couldn't be...? What was hurting the child...wasn't physical nor psychological... The transition... "Someone...please!" Quickening footsteps, and Ryuko and the others were at the door.

"Okami-sama..." Mumbled Ryuko.

"So the incense didn't work either? Then that settles it." Muttered Touka. Medical techniques to treat physical damage, aromatherapy for mental ailment...

That would only mean...

"A Kyuuketsuki. Or turning into one, at least... And to top that, our shield's what's killing her." Finished Hanami, grimly.

Ryuko sighed. The Elders are going to go ballistic if they knew. Sure, it was in their power to save the Kyuuketsuki family...but it was more a contracted thing. Senju X to Kyuuketsuki Y. A member of the Senju family to each Kyuuketsuki. He clasped a hand to the wooden frame of the door and pulled out a knife-shaped object. Strangely...the wooden frame seemed untouched.

"Well, it can't be helped. I'll give her some of my blood to ease the pain." The effects letting the Kyuuketsuki drink from the Senju had always been profound, even more so if it was a royal family member. And the blood of a Senju royal family member...their power to convert their very chakra into the source of life...

Quietly approaching Melediana by Lula's bedside, Ryuko gently knelt down, and pressed down on the child's lower chin to open her mouth. Wincing slightly as he made a clean cut across his wrist with the knife, he allowed the blood to drip into the child's mouth. "...eh...Melediana-san, stop glaring at me like that. We both know very well the transition can't be stopped once it comes." A pause. "You awaken a bloodlimit and it can never sleep again."

His expression softened as he pulled his bleeding wrist back and gently wiped away the trickle of blood down the child's face with the white yukata sleeve of his uninjured hand. "...and it's not your family's fault either. Normally, you would've been able to drain the smallest bit of chakra so it wouldn't interfere with daily processes...except the shield's been taking what your family lives on. Since Senju made the shield, it's our responsibility..."

Melediana near instantly covered her nose the moment Ryuko had slashed his wrist. Jerk. Give a warning first... And his words... That...wasn't true. Even long before the shield...! "But...!" She attempted to protest.

Ryuko interrupted. "We're fine being sacrifices... Or haven't you noticed yet?" His voice trailed off. "From the beginning...kami-sama gave us a power, in return for a price."

"Stop twisting words! That goes for all clans bearing a limit!"

But he merely laughed and glided away. Senju...like the elves of the forest... Hanami pulled him back before he could leave the room and began healing his injury. "Melediana, Melediana...don't pity us too much. It's just as you have said." A soft pause, as Ryuko left the chambers first, sliding the wooden doors shut... The last those remaining would see was kind silver eyes. "...because Kyuuketsuki is truly the family to be pitied."

Death was much kinder than eternity.

"Ignore him, Ryuko always-oh no you don't! You're not thinking of going to bed with that bloody robe! Who do you think takes out the laundry!?" With that said, Senju Touka marched off after Ryuko.

But Hanami stayed. "Ah...I'm not too familiar with the transition." She admitted. "But I could ease her pain if it starts a-..."

"It's ok."

Melediana inwardly groaned.

Another one.

Worst idea she ever had, going to the Senjus...

"She'll be fine since she...had..." Sighing, greatly depressed, Melediana dragged over the chair at the writing desk to Lula's bedside. She barely noticed Hanami excusing herself, bidding them good night and leaving, as she propped onto the chair.

She didn't feel like going to sleep tonight.

Lula's body tightened as she drank greedily at first... And then she realized what she was doing... She, unfortunately, couldn't stop herself, though... Her body was shaking, but she finally gave in to the fact that she didn't want to stop... She finally managed to rip herself away from her drink, and she was racked with another spasm of what appeared to be pain. Her back arced and lifted her off of her bedding before she fell back to the bed, her mouth open, fangs bared as her lips relaxed, and her eyes lost focus of the ceiling.

Her breath came in short bursts, and her eyes were such a vivid green now that they might have been carved of polished emerald.

She didn't know how long she had been like that, and she didn't want to remember it. Right now, she needed to get changed, though... She looked shyly to Melediana, and nervously whispered "Ummm... Are there any spare clothes I could wear?" So that last convulsion hadn't been pain... She looked down, curled up in a ball and wrapped her arms around her legs, officially embarrassed and burying her face in her knees.

Ryuko had left sleeping yukatas for the guests when he first showed them the room they'll be staying at. Melediana looked around, not bothering to tap loud enough so that the lamp-statues would activate. She could see in the darkness anyways...and she picked up the smaller robe. An eyebrow raised. What sleeping yukata...? Even though it was dark, with only the silver moonlight streaming through the screen-paned windows...she could clearly note that though this yukata was white, it was embroidered with lovely sakura blossom patterns at the hem of the sleeves and at the neckline and base of the robe. "Lula?" She said kindly to the child, preoffering the robe, as she quietly took her seat beside the child's bed.

"Does it still hurt...?" She whispered, gently brushing a strand of red lock back from the child's forehead.
PostPosted: Wed Apr 15, 2009 4:48 pm

yes "...No..."

She took the robe in shaking hands and changed underneath her blanket, making sure to keep her old clothes underneath the blanket as well. It took her forever... She looked close to tears, and the question of whether she was cold or in pain might cross one's mind.

The child's eyes were a mixture of fear and of pain, but she kept them averted, staring at the floor and not moving from her position --her quivering ball-- underneath the blanket.

They were right... About what I am... "I'm sorry..." Her voice broke as she choked on the words. They didn't seem strong enough... Not for what she'd done... For what she was... She buried her face back into her knees, sobbing quietly.

"Sorry? For what?" Asked Melediana, gently. But she didn't wait for a response. "You shouldn't have to apologize. It's not your fault...this..." Her voice trailed off. "This was something decided long before you were born." Her voice was calm. But was Melediana really all right...? "...yet I had hoped...that you would've been spared this..." She continued quietly. "...because carrying a kekkai genkai...is embittering." Was she really speaking just of the Kyuuketsuki family now? "A gift in exchange for a curse." And she embraced the child. "I'm so sorry...for not noticing sooner..." The transition...should not have been this early or this violent... But then, the time of the awakening varied among the different sects... But it made no difference....it was still a painful, unpleasant experience to go through...
PostPosted: Thu Apr 16, 2009 7:08 pm

Lula didn't feel like arguing that it wasn't Melediana's fault. She wrapped herself around the woman, shivering violently. She had gone through way too much today... But she was sure she would face more difficult days in the future... She could guess at what she was, and a lifetime of horror stories flashed through her mind. And then a different story...

"There are so many different people out there, Lula..." The little girl had seen her first Hyuuga... She'd been frightened and had asked why that thing had eyes like that... She hadn't meant any offense... She just hadn't been able to express the fact that she didn't know if it was a boy, a girl, or even human... "But no matter what, they are all people. There is no such thing as a monster, and those people that say other people are monsters are the worst kind. There's evil in every single person. Even inside you and me. But no matter what you live with. No matter what you have to do to live, you're still human. Do you understand that?" The little girl nodded weakly, walked up to the Hyuuga, tugged on her robe and apologized, leaving the Hyuuga with a confused smile as the flame-haired child turned and ran back to her mother.

Lula nodded softly, still scared out of her mind, crawling into the jounin's lap. She may have been a little taller, but she didn't weigh any more than she had. she may as well have been made of cotton. "I'm still me... No matter wh-" Her body gave out again, but this time she let herself fall asleep, her feathery grasp on Melediana fading as she drifted out of consciousness. Lula realized who she'd seen in her memory.. Who she'd substituted for her mother... A faint whisper. nothing more than the last of her conscious breath leaving, passing through unconscious lips. "Mom..." Her fiery curls padded her cheek as she pressed her face against the woman's chest, a soft smile on her lips.

A small smile, as the need for rest finally caught up with the child. But her smile was also bit sad...at the realization that in the future... Restful nights were something that escaped the Kyuuketsuki family. For now, then. But she didn't want to give up...not letting the child see the morning light, when she was just perhaps as brilliant as the morning star...was too cruel. No matter what... It wasn't exactly a lullaby but gently rocking the child, Melediana began singing softly. I will...continue to pray... Even if the child will not remember the song, Melediana will continue to pray...that Lula will continue seeking, with all her strength, and reach out to take her destiny in her own hands...

She felt that perhaps she understood Chiru, just a little better...

A flicker of memory, of her teammate. On their first mission, facing against a rogue shinobi...

"A Senju? Ha! But brat, I heard of your limit. It kills you with use, right?"

And Chiru's retort... "It may be killing me, but I don't care. When one gets power, there's always a price. But I'm most happy, when protecting the people I love most! That's what you use power for!"

Like how the heart-shaped clouds change its form
Will I be changin' too someday?

I remain standing in the midst of parting way
And the shadow gently fades away

Like how the sun is always there
Even when it has sunk down
It's a dream I can't let go

A thousand destinies
I'll show you I can change my fate
Now what can I do with these hands of mine?
Reach out from inside

When you starts to lose sight of your precious things
How many words are out there to save you?

Because the irreplaceable treasure raises me,
Supports me and gives me a strong heart

Certainty is definitely here
I can show you my faith is stronger than anybody else
There's faith in my soul

The more it hurt, the brighter it starts to glisten
And now it's changin' all the more

Lula sighed softly, settling against her sensei as she slid deeper into unconsciousness, not dreaming for fear that she might relive the day. It was quite possible that her mind might just dump the day in its entirety. One might only hope.

She was breathing in such long passes that it might not even seem that her chest was rising, and it was only the soft whisper of her breath teeth, and the slightest fluttering of her curls that showed she was still continuing that relentless chore. She purred softly as she wrapped her arms around Melediana's chest, soaking the vibrations of her song into her body. She was going to sleep through to daylight, it seemed. So she might actually get that rest at last.

It had been the full night, and a good piece of the morning. The sun was just starting to creep into the room, and Lula cracked her eyes to take in the room, the colors as she saw them were overwhelming. At first, it might have been the normal color contrast, but then her eyes saw the light. At first it was nothing. It was just a brighter light than the room.

And then, stories of what were. What she was. What happened to people like her. To things like her. Blood. Disgusting. She was disgusting. But she had liked it... Who cared? It was what she had needed. It had done her good. But then the ignorant stories of the people flooded her memory.

An ear-piercing sound, somewhere between a hiss and a scream pulsed through the room with an almost physical wave of force, and she fled from the light with as much force as she could, cowering in fear against Melediana's chest, as a child might when confronted with their worst fear. She didn't want to die. She didn't want this. She wanted to live. No matter what that might mean. "No!"

Somehow in the shock of her awakening, however, she lost her hold of Melediana, and her white-knuckled clutch departed as a leaf in the wind. She was in the corner faster than she had thought possible, curled into the tightest ball she could imagine, and shielding her face with her hands. True, it might not kill her... Bu she didn't know that. And she sure as hell wasn't experimenting to find out. All she had was the stories. All she had was the inaccurate lore of centuries of superstitious fears and misconceptions.
PostPosted: Tue Jun 30, 2009 10:22 am

She had not gotten any sleep that night. After all...there was no need to. As a member of the High Twilight Walkers, Melediana rested in intervals during the mornings... So she had kept vigilant, watching the child. Because... The change itself was neither painful nor harmful, but it was uncomfortable...but the first time seeing light after the change...it wasn't exactly agony...no it was beyond agony: nothing that pained the physical form, of course, but draining them of their powers...that was the worst... Lula's cries had awoken the sleepy royal family members next door and Touka came stumbling into the room. It took her a moment to process what has happened before hurrying out once more, she returned with a still half-asleep Haru pulled by the hand.

"It's all right...it's all right..." Melediana paid no attention all the while as the boy entered and made a gesture; she cradling the child, whispering comforts...until she noticed the windows sealing themselves with wood. The windows of the Senju estate did not use glass; the traditional kind, with screened ricepaper set on a frame for panes, which are swung open and hinged shut. The only illumination were the faint light coming from the hallways now; as an extra precautionary measure, Haru strode in, closing the screened window frames. Touka meanwhile left the room, closing the door behind her until only a bare gap allowed for the tiniest bit of light - so that her darling half-brother won't trip and stumble in the dark.

Haru was young of course, so he gulped barely audily, and seemed a bit nervous in face of the now glowing ruby eyes of the red-haired woman.

"We...didn't expect it." Murmured the boy awkwardly, after a long moment. "...for...a Kyuuketsuki to show up now of all times."

"I know." Melediana replied, her voice quiet. "And...?" She pressed on. "What have the royal family decided on?"

"To help." Replied the boy, fingering a long strand of dark gold hair. "We obey Zephyr-sama's wishes, but he is not present. However..." A slight smile. "I...am certain his wish will be the same as ours. We will not let one of our own die."

"One of your own, hn..." She couldn't help the rueful smile that crossed her face. It was partly melancholic, partly bitter...and partly...the sadness that was present...it was... But she had lowered her head so that the long strands of her flame-red hair partly shielded her expression.

A long moment passed.

"Thank you."

The boy held up some sort of necklace, with a crystal vial of something red for a pendant. "I...cut out more blood last night..." A soft pause. "Ryuko couldn't do it, because...the Elders watch..."

But of course...in replacement of Zephyr, only the Senju Council has the right to arrange the sacrifices... So startled, she couldn't help but say: "You'll get in trouble!"

"They...wouldn't touch me." Replied the child. "Because I bear the gift of Mokouton, unlike my sister." A small smile. "Trust me, Lady Melediana...it's better this way. Ryuko and the others would have more trouble from the Council, but they will not bother me, because...because I haven't reached the initiation year yet, the Senju Council bears no guard over me." A pause.

"Anzu-sama, in Zephyr-sama's place, remains the guardian of the royal branch's children until we reach our fifteenth year. Until then, I am free to ignore the Council's qualms..." With that said, he thrust the necklace into Melediana's hands. "So please, take it, Lady Melediana..."

"Y-you...you do realize...?" Under a shield of this much strength, a strong, healthy Kyuuketsuki adult would need to feed once per cycle of the moon. Melediana herself only required once per three cycles...but that was because... However, Lula...

"Once a week, I know, perhaps even more considering it is the first cycle. Lady Melediana requires only once per three cycles, but that is only because she has not been using her powers..." The boy approached the door, the elegant folds of his clothing gently sweeping the carefully burnished boards of the floor. "Good day, Lady Melediana. I pray to Senju Kannon for Miss Lula's swift recovery..."

And like that, the child left the room, the door closing quietly behind him.

Lula slowly began to calm down... She was still shaking, though. She clung to the older woman, feeling even more alone than ever before. Just one more group of people who'll hate me. She accepted that as a matter of life and quickly overcame that minor obstacle. But... Now that the sun was gone, she had time to think... "What... Exactly... Am I?" Of course... Lula already knew the answer to that question... But somehow she thought that hearing it from Melediana might allow the girl to accept it a little more readily...
