I find Danish harder than French.

Learning it right now.

However alot of the people say

It is easier than French.

Easier than french!? Huney, Danish is said to be one of the hardest European languages, because a lot of the words only resemble the northern tongue.
French is more alike to the English tongue, which should make it easier to learn.

Danish has unlogical grammar, unlogical pronouncation and very hard pronounciation at that, too. Not to mention, unlike most languages, Danish is kinda monotone and doesn't have a sing-song to it like, say, Norwegian.

It is, however, much easier to learn once you know Norwegian.

But easier than french? Maybe if you have learned french first, but... No, I couldn't imagine it being easier.

Oh, og velkommen til guilden, Ab.

although saying "hun" is correct for slang purposes you still spell it "honey" like the food

So I was driving around Minneapolis earlier and ran across the Danish American Center.:O

They have all sorts of Danish cultural activities apparently, including movie nights, language classes, all sorts of stuff.

Ah, I didn't know they finally settled on a name. It used to be Danebo and the Danish American Fellowship and then they joined together and didn't know what to call themselves. I'm glad they brought the language classes back! They haven't had them since I've been able to afford them. I'll have to look into that again.

They still go by all three of the names. mad D

Their website is still "danebo.org" and they occasionally refer to themselves as the Danish American Fellowship.

I think I stumbled upon a cultural jackpot in the Cities. I also drove past a church whose signs were all in Italian and found the Russian church that I was looking for.

So you're from the Twin Cities area as well?:O

I guess I'm lucky to be in Toronto. Many cultures have their own little enclave somewhere in town. Need something Chinese? We've got like two Chinatowns and our huge Asian sensation of a mall, Pacific Mall. We've got J-town for all things Japanese, and a couple of Little Italys. The only thing that you'd probably have difficulty finding here is a large Scandinavian community (as in, recent immigrants, not regular N. American white people with Scandinavian ancestors), but then again, I haven't exactly poked around the whole city yet. razz

There's a lot of Scandinavian stuff here, but I'm assuming that that's because ninety percent of us have some Scandinavian ancestry (along with German).

I'm half Swedish (kind-of) and a quarter German myself.

I consider myself half-Swedish, but I really don't know about the technicalities.

You see, my mom was adopted, so we don't know -anything- about her heritage. But she was adopted into an all-Swedish family, so I consider myself half-Swedish. 3nodding

Then I'm a quarter German and have random bits of Irish, Polish and various other ethnicities thrown in. I look very German, except people tell me that I have a "Polish nose." o.O

It really is pretty awesome here, if only for the food! I love that I can find Korean, Vietnamese, Cambodian, Ethiopean, Japanese, Cantonese, Turkish, Kurdish, Mexican, Ecuadorian, Spanish, Greek, Italian, Finnish... you get the idea... all within reasonable distance from my apartment. mmmmmm!

When my fiancé is here, if he's having Danish food withdrawal, we can make a trip to Ingebretsen's and get good quality leverpostej.

I'm originally from down south but I've been in MN for 10 years. I got my Master's from the U of M and I'm in St. Paul now. I've been told I look Minnesotan/Scandinavian, and I certainly don't stand out when I'm in Denmark, but I'm actually mostly Scottish and English, and the rest of me is German and Mexican.

ask Hellsbitch or Adabydron on this one
all I know is that a 'g' at the end of a word is always silent
(and in the middle of some words) ie. Kage (keh)
